Fae-FaeOn the precise second of everyone’s scheduled wake-up time, all Cadets received a communication. It read: Fellow Cadets are invited to an optional wellness check at these coordinates after completing your morning self-maintenance routine. It was from Fae-Fae. Some of her comrades would immediately know exactly what she was up to. While she never talked about it directly, she also never hid it: little images of sunrises had been dancing on the edges of her ComTech screen for weeks. It communicated her eagerness and her longing more easily than any number of words ever could, and she was not the only Vanguardian with those feelings. Each one of them was from a synthetic world with people that yearned to feel a real sun again. The small taste of it they had gotten yesterday had already been life changing. For Fae-Fae, it felt more like the touch of a living being than the artificial lights she was accustomed to back home. It quenched a hunger in her skin she didn’t even know she had. And now they had the privilege of being the first among their generation to begin their day with it. It wasn’t just fulfilling a great desire. They were making history. She couldn’t even remember completing her morning routine at all. The list of items checked off on her screen were the only proof to her she had done it. As far as she could tell in that moment, she had always been swaying from side to side on the hilltop she had scouted out, waiting for the best moment of her life to happen. Quote: The Cadets are out to watch the first sunrise of their lives! I’ll check in on discord before moving to the Good Part where the sun rises and everyone has a bunch of feelings.

Gavaen
There would have been absolutely no keeping Gavaen from experiencing his first real actual sunrise, even if you had tied him to a rock. He could hardly sleep from not just the excitement of Earth and their Mission but the anticipation of The First Sunrise was huge.
He was ready and threw open his sleeping pod door, stepping out with all the enthusiasm and bright-eyed vigor of someone who had brewed their coffee with Red Bull and meth. Only his enthusiasm was completely organic and not drug-related at all. They really should have just been draining his energy, because surely that alone could power anything they needed, at this point.
He appeared on the hill shortly, and was curious about the sounds of crickets, or maybe frogs, or whatever it was chirping in the stillness of the pre-dawn air. The air - that was amazing too!
It was amazing that the internal excited screaming running through his head wasn't expressing itself outwardly this whole time, aside from wide golden eyes and a wide smile on his face.
"Greetings, Fae-Fae!" Gavaen said, swooping his friend in to an massive excited hug.

Andreiya
Andreiya was not on friendly enough terms with Fae-Fae to warrant prying about her little doodles, but in recent days he had come to associate her with tiny pictures of a rising sun. He was not surprised that the invitation came from her, and no matter how intently he’d told himself, or maybe suggested to others, that it was probably a waste of time to get excited about something so pointless, he still showed up.
Truthfully, Andreiya denied himself the opportunity to get emotionally invested in most things, but telling himself he didn’t care wasn’t quite convincing enough to make him not. Even if he was good at avoiding his own contradictions.
He liked to think he was put together and professional--and, certainly, he did put his heart into every project, every task, like his life depended on it. He was stubborn and solitary, not because he particularly enjoyed such things, but because he was so convinced that if he let himself stray from the goal, he’d get distracted and fail.
And, failure was not an option he could live with.
He was a cluster of insecurities poorly hidden beneath a facade of competence, and--while Lyndin had chosen him to come on this mission--he was still petrified that someone would find out he was a fraud and send him back any minute now.
So, of course he couldn’t let anyone know that he wanted to see the sunrise, too! That was so pointless, it was a waste of time! He definitely didn’t want to be here.
But, no one had dragged him. No one had asked him to admire the grass, or the open sky, or the clouds, or the wind. So he hadn’t! He had looked, for research purposes, but it was gross! It was messy, and bright and loud and overwhelming! Disgusting! He took pictures of everything he could while no one was looking--for research purposes, and not so he could go back and analyze it in great detail later, and try to convince himself that he wasn’t enamored and in awe of this world he didn’t know.
He didn’t approach Fae-Fae or Gavaen, not because he disliked them, but because he didn’t want to draw the attention to the fact that he was here instead of working, or sleeping--which he’d already said earlier was far more practical.
Except, even though he’d finished his tasks--and taken on more! Like a good Cadet!--he was too excited to sleep. The Source Stone was the obvious choice; he could just draw out his extra energy, except he was too afraid he’d sleep through the sunrise--and then everyone else might know something he didn’t!
So, he’d dragged himself to the coordinates, because no-one was going to learn more Earth things than him. Lyndin had specifically said to learn as much as possible, and that was the only reason he was here.
Except, his heart was beating in his chest and he was having a hard time standing still and he wanted to squirm as the energy built inside of him.
Internally, he was a mess. Externally, he at least appeared like he hadn’t spent the last three hours trying to imagine what it was going to look like.
Quote: Andreiya is open for interaction and is pretending to sulk in back because he can't admit that he really wants to be there

VynVyn didn’t care about the sunrise. He didn’t. What could possibly be interesting (let alone life-changing) about watching a distant sphere of hot plasma peek above the horizon? He could be doing far more important things with his time, such as assisting Commodore Lyndin with some personal matter (he wished), or seeing to his daily tasks with his usual devotion (which was rather a lot, especially if it meant earning a proud smile from the Commodore). But he met the other cadets at the specified coordinates, knowing full well what he would be getting himself into because… Because. It was a new experience, and new experiences were learning experiences, and they should learn all they could to be effective members of Velencian society. “Greetings, Friends,” he said upon his arrival, pouting over the Commodore’s absence. Surely that proved there were far more important things to be doing with their time. Vyn didn’t sway like Fae-Fae, or hug anyone like Gavaen, or linger along the periphery like Andreiya. He placed himself in the very center of their growing group, where he dropped to the grass in what might appear to be a dramatic sprawl. He touched the green blades, kept his open hand just above, so the tips tickled his palm. Then he sat up and began picking all the little flowers strewn around, collecting a sizable pile in his lap. “I will make the Commodore a crown of flowers,” Vyn decided. Under his breath, he muttered, “Surely he would make a better King.”

AliezAliez didn’t trust the communication he got from Fae-Fae, but since he was usually unable to stop himself from wanting to know more about everything, he went to this optional wellness check. As expected it did not look like any wellness check was being conducted. “Good morning,” Aliez greeted his fellow Cadets, although he tried not to seem too suspicious about their intentions. It was still dark, except for the lights from the city. From Destiny City his mind corrected. The place where they were going to help these supposedly countless Senshi and Knights destroy the Negaverse which plagued their city and their world. Gavaen was there as well, but his overenthusiasm also made Aliez wary. Maybe he was just being overly cautious about this whole experience, but they barely knew anything about this world, much less what to expect. Aliez made sure to keep his distance from Gavaen to avoid any hugging. Which meant he could see Andreiya lurking in the shadows. “Andreiya,” he greeted with a nod, and then cast a skeptical look at Vyn as he collected flowers in his lap. Aliez tried not to focus too much on Earth just yet. He wanted to make sure everything was set up for their mission first, and then go out and explore as they were instructed. To learn about the Senshi and Knights and the City.

Caelyna
Caelyna would never admit it, but she, too, had been excited about the prospect of a sunrise. Spending her entire life on a synthetic world meant that there were many things she'd never seen, and being on Earth was an opportunity to see all of them.
Still, this felt...furtive. She shouldn't be here, she knew, slacking off to watch some silly, normal astrological phenomenon. She had work to do, because she needed to make sure that she kept living up to Velyria's faith in her and proved to everyone that she wasn't just here by the grace of her older sister's benevolence.
And yet....
And yet here she was, slipping out to the coordinates Fae-Fae sent, and there were already a few others here, so at least she wasn't alone in her mild misbehavior.
Besides, surely the Commodore and His Highness would understand!! They had to know that getting to see a very first sunrise was a monumental occasion. Part of her even dared hope that some of the higher ups might decide to join them, but even if they didn't...
This would be something special.
Still, she was stern and staid as she walked up.
"Good morning, everyone," she said. "I hope we won't let this distract us too much from our duties."Quote: open for interactionnn <3

NaeriaIn the five minutes between finishing their unpacking tasks the first night and their scheduled rest time, Naeria managed to scan three different species to her ComTech. Three. All within a few feet of her sleeping pod. She repeated their names to herself as she made her way over to Fae-Fae's coordinates. Sweet Meadowgrass. White Clover. Bluet. The biodiversity even within their barrier was nearly overwhelming. There was so much life on this world, and Naeria was beyond excited to find and investigate and catalogue as much of it as she could during the scope of their mission. It would all be to follow the Commodore's orders, of course. It would all be to show the people of Velencya what they'd found here. That was definitely the only reason. The only reason. Of course she was there at Fae-Fae's wellness check, even if she was aware that aware that an optional check would not do much to ensure that they'd all adjusted properly to Earth's atmosphere. She knew what this might actually be about, having stolen a glance or two at Fae-Fae's ComTech during the journey. When she reached the field where they were gathering, Vyn was picking flowers. Many flowers, including a few that were neither clovers or bluets. She stared for a few seconds, but pulled her attention away. Instead, she spent a full minute opening up the camera feature on her own ComTech and making sure that it was pointing up at the brightening sky at the perfect angle. She hadn't meant to be too close to anybody, and it was only afterwards that she saw Andreiya standing close. She blinked, and her cheeks immediately flushed. "Don't you think," she said, and then stopped, and swallowed, but she'd already started speaking so it would be only proper to continue the thought, "Don't you think we should record this unique part of Earth's environment?" She knew they might have pictures from a thousand years ago, but it was surely possible that the atmospheric composition and therefore the colors had changed in all that time. Fae-FaeA bright grin and bubbly laugh emerged from Fae-Fae as Gavaen swept her up into a hug that lifted her up from the grass for a second. It was a familiar interaction she’d enjoyed with him since they were both children, and it felt fresh and new on this new world. When the hug ended she beamed at her friend, clearly pleased that they both were here. It had been no surprise to her when both of them had been chosen for the Vanguard, but it was still so satisfying that their ambitions had come true. Her screen flashed to life in front of her while she watched more of her comrades began to arrive. As she tapped away at it, her synthetic voice rang warmly in the air: “ Greetings, friends.” To an Earthling listener, it would sound gently autotuned. She perked up at Naeria's suggestion. “ Wonderful idea," she said, grateful for her fellow Vanguardian's diligent thinking. She'd almost forgotten about the camera!

ItztenochCrept up in under the dim pre dawn lighting. 'Tenoch spied the others up on the hill, followed up in what he hoped was a quiet manner to meet with Fae-Fae. Brief touch of surprise on his face to find so many others already. Made it a point to go stand near Caelyna - heard her hint towards propriety and smothered a chuckle, cause they were already there, weren't they? What better to do then enjoy the moment of it. The first of many sunrises - and hopefully not the first of the last of them. "Live a little Calyena, our duties aren't going anywhere." soft smirk that belied his eagerness for seeing the thing they'd all come out to witness. Brushed by her with a soft nod towards the others in greeting. As much as he would've liked to tell himself otherwise. To tell himself that he should've stayed back and kept on 'track'. He wanted to see it. Share in his brethren's eagerness for the 'new.' Every little step that held it already. Tickle and itch of green, breath of air that came unfiltered with a bevy of scents laden in it. "Does anything know when this 'sunrise' thing is supposed to happen? Do they have it on a set timer - or.." brusque little question, almost to himself. Wondered at the tracking of it all on earth. If it was the same as watching the motions of the stars from their own space beyond it. He didn't quite want to get caught out even as he marveled at the others cleverness for taking a visual of it all. A recording would be helpful. For study, yes, but also for a memory replayed.

Andreiya
The only benefit to there being others around meant that Andreiya could distract himself from impatiently waiting for the sun to rise. Vyn looked comfortable, and even though Andreiya wondered what those flowers felt like, he refrained from kneeling down to touch the grass and try to pick any of his own. Later, he told himself.
When he was alone. Maybe. If he finished all of his work.
He was looking at Vyn when Aliez greeted him, and he nodded politely despite the fact that he was a bit startled at the greeting. He’d already gotten distracted and that did not bode well for the mission. He needed to focus. He shouldn’t be here!
...But he couldn’t sleep, and if he used the Source Stone now, he might sleep in. And he wasn’t lazy, no one could think he was lazy. He never overslept.
There was no right way to greet Andreiya when he worked himself up; Aliez greeted him, but Neira didn’t seem to see him, and he was suddenly fixated on that.
He became aware of her well before she noticed him; he had watched Naeria while she prepared her camera, and waited to see how long it would take her to realize he was there. Nearly a minute! The whole time of which he gradually grew more flustered at the thought that he was so unimpressive that she could be blind to him.
By the time she saw him, his ears were burning and his lips were pressed together so tightly he might have bruised himself. He was about to open his mouth and protest that it seemed frivolous--because, what was so unique about this? It happened on Earth every day, what was so special that it needed to be recorded?
...But then Fae-Fae said it was a wonderful idea and he bit back his thoughts because, of course he couldn’t disagree, that would be wrong, and he didn’t want to be wrong.
And, if she did record it, maybe he could watch it later. In case he missed anything, not for leisure or any other silly, pointless reason.
“If you record it, you should upload it to the database,” he suggested, trying his best to sound like he wasn’t excited about the idea. “For research purposes.”
And, because it meant he didn’t have to try and sneak his camera out to watch it; he could just glower at the sun and pretend like he wanted it up, now. He’d waited long enough; the Earth needed to move just a little faster.

Gavaen
Gavaen couldn't help his grin as more and more started showing up. Even the ones who tried so hard to make it look like they weren't interesting - just the fact that they were here was enough to make him believe that they were just as excited as him.
Well....maybe not just as excited. It was pretty hard to be that excited. He had never been really good at hiding his emotions much beyond a reasonably expected extent. His helpfulness and eagerness to do anything at was asked of him was perhaps what helped balance that shortcoming, Along with him accepting that some people were just emotionally constipated, and that was okay. He had more than enough expression in him to make up for it.
Naeria's suggestion got an emphatic nod from him
To Itztenoch he said, "From what I understand, they don't control their weather phenomena at all, so we are at the mercy of the planet's natural orbit!"

CaerynnAs she was roused to her normal morning routine of exercise, washing, feeding, and entertaining Fondness for the Commodore, Caerynn was startled to find that there was a communication already finding its way to her communicator. An opportunity to engage in an optional wellness check. From Fae-Fae. Smiling, Caerynn rushed through morning ablutions and maintenance, including her ritual of gratitude to the Cauldron for allowing her to be close to one such as Commodore Lyndin in this cycle, for he truly had given rise to this opportunity- to see... sunrise. Feel natural warmth on her skin again. Perhaps, if they were lucky, they would even encounter rain while they were here. Or large bodies of water in which they could submerge themselves to clean. Would that not be a fascinating experience? Was not Earth a natural world that could have such things? Would their senshi, when they found it, like rain? Would they bring rain back to Velenia, with their awakening? They would being more food sources, a planet that had a day-night cycle, and change to everything. But they would, likely, be human; and thus, the first order of business to understand their senshi-to-be… would be to watch the sun rise. It was logical. Double-checking the assignment schedule, just to be certain that everything was as it had been for the majority of her time with the vanguard, Caerynn made note that she would have plenty of time to enjoy the wellness check, and perhaps indulge in some socialization in order to better understand her fellow cadets, as well. Teamwork would please the Commodore, and therefore took priority above almost anything else apart from ensuring that she was being a participant and contributing to the satisfaction of their society; Caerynn was one of the natural resources of Velencya, after all. It was not truly surprising to see that there were already a number of her fellow cadets waiting at the assigned coordinates; there were even some beginning to take measurements and notations of the properties of the event, which was quite likely to please Commodore Lyndin. “I feel that it would be best if we will need to observe this event over several cycles, in order to ensure accuracy and begin to gauge any variations caused by natural weather phenomena.” Her greeting was cheerful, and not much of a greeting at all. After all- they could likely see her, could they not, even if she did not speak introductory greeting phrases? “It may also be to our advantage to also observe and collect data for the inverse of this event. The speed with which temperature changes and light fluctuates in this uncontrolled envisonment could be very important to the processing of our technology; I am sure it could be very useful, and the Commodore would be pleased with our initiative to try and record such a thing and produce documentation on such.”Carefully, Caerynn lowered herself to her knees on the grass, burying fingers into the soft green below her. It even felt like green, somehow, a phenomenon which Rynn was not entirely scientific in nature, but perhaps was emotionally induced.

Valnyr
A wellness check? Right now? Valnyr had regarded her comm tech with a touch of confusion for a moment or two. It wasn't that she had slept yet, the young woman had completed all of her necessary tasks and had immediately hit the 'books' to do some light reading. She'd intended to sleep a touch later, if only briefly, before she left the dome to begin her exercises and implement some type of rountine that would be beneficial to the cause. However, it seemed that on this occasion sleep was not on the cards and it was with a slight raising of her brow that she had gathered her composure and made her way towards the designated location.
It appeared she was not the first to arrive, with some of the much more excitable of her peers presenting themselves first. She wasn't completely restrained, she was absolutely delighted to be here, but the young woman had a tendency to vibrate in her excitement in an attempt to bottle it up rather than to express it quite so directly. At some point she might very well explode into a stream of confetti but so far she had managed to remember herself and her position.
A quick look here and there allowed her and she took note of those around her. There was Gavaen, who brimmed with enthusiasm and had already shown his affection for a favoured companion in the form of Fae-Fae. She knew of Fae-Fae by her idle musings and the small, decorative drawings applied to her notes. Then there happened to be the more reserved Andreiya, and the ever devoted Vyn (likely disappointed by a lack of a certain superior officers presence).
While Vyn seemed to be doing something with the flowers he had been pulling from the ground, Valnyr continued to take note of each peer who had arrived. Aliez had started to converse with Andreiya on the outskirts, another of the more mindful types that seemed to be of the inclination to focus on the mission first and explore a little second. Then there was Caelyna who was of the same mind as her in regards to priorities.
Naeria had also filtered in, and Itztenoch as well.
"Is their planet's orbit not set and therefore predictable?" she spoke up at last, flicking the screen of her comtech up to tap through some of the information she had available. "If this has remained unchanged over the course of time then I would anticipate that this particular phenomenon is predictable to a reasonable degree," she remarked. She knew they had some technology, priminitive as it was, but the accuracy of it remained open to debate until she could explore it further.
"That leads in to your proposal, Caerynn," she smiled warmly. "If it is indeed precitable then perhaps this has a larger scale impact on how the world responds to it," she continued. She didn't know if anyone else had noticed, but she had been taken aback by the fact the flowers 'closed' when darkness fell. Did that mean they opened again when the sun came out, did that mean flowers slept?
"Not that I can find any reliable information in regards to when this particular event is due to occur today, but perhaps after this one...?"
Others had suggested recording this into their database and she was of the same mind as them. Every little scrap of information was useful, it would help them understand, and perhaps in the future it would help them rebuild their homeworld too. As this was technically a part of their mission scope they weren't misbehaving too much, right? It was perfectly reasonable to collect the data and review it later (over several days), that was how science worked!

Vyn
“You all talk too much,” Vyn complained.
He began to fashion a crown once he had a significant pile collected. First, he tried to tie the flowers together by their stems, but that left them mangled and unattractive. (A man as magnificent as the Commodore should only be presented with the most beautiful crown.) Vyn pouted in disappointment. The thought of it seemed so easy in his head.
It was the talking, he decided. His companions were distracting, always chattering on and asking their questions. Questions were important, yes, because questions led to answers and answers led to learning, but they spent their whole lives learning. For once, couldn’t they just be and do, not for the sake of learning something, but for the sake of…
Of what? There had to be something else, but the thought of it seemed so nebulous.
After some trial and error, Vyn began to link the flowers together. If he split a stem just so, he could slip the stem of another through, and the flower’s head kept them connected. It was simple, and very delicate, but with the right materials, he thought he could make a superior crown.
For a first attempt, this would do. Perhaps he would keep this one for himself. Later, when his duties were complete and he had some time to himself, he would gather what he needed to make another, and hope he had the courage to present it to the Commodore.

Fae-Fae“Ooh!” The motion of Vyn setting aside his first attempt at a flower crown caught Fae-Fae’s eye, and her features brightened even more as she pieced together what he was doing. With an invigorated wiggling of fists, she gestured at Gavaen to look as well. Clearly, their friend had decided to commemorate their first full day on Earth with these arrangements of Earth flowers he was making for everyone! What a thoughtful comrade they had! She carefully plucked a few she liked, and smilingly presented it to Vyn while gesturing at the other he had made — can mine have one of these? All the while, she was nodding along with the ideas everyone was having about what data they should be cataloguing, and how, and why. The space was flowing with an intellectual eagerness any self-respecting Velencian would be proud to witness. “ Let’s take care to observe our vital signs,” she said. “ Our bodIes could be affected by anything here. How is everyone adapting so far?” And that was sincere. While the pretense was there, she really did want to help make sure everyone was okay.
