[Sol 1]
It seemed that every time Sol thought of returning to their home in Zena something would keep the newly married pair in Matori. At first it had been the meeting with Koril’s parents, then their own private wedding ceremony and now they were at the mercy of fate.
After that night Sol had been afraid it was all a spur of the moment thing, that it wouldn’t really pan out, but once Koril assured him that yes adoption was possible for them they’d started the search. It had been a hard choice at first; should they look for a child in Matori or Zena? Ultimately it had been Sol that made the decision. Until they all adjusted to one another it might be easier around those who were more experienced. Sol wasn’t sure where his fathers were traveling these days, but Dexurn and Shadiya were close.
Contact with a children’s home had been made, as well as several elders who had been known to care for foundlings. The interview process was….admittedly more in depth than Sol was prepared for. He’d been asked questions about his family that he himself had never even thought of. One woman in particular hadn’t looked on them kindly for being hybrids, much less so once she found out Sol was blind. He tried not to let it affect him, but the longer they went without contact just made him worry.

Walking up to the manor, Koril found his steps slowing nervously. He came to a full stop once he reached the door, his hand resting on the handle without moving. He had taken up a few more hours at the stable to help with funds for the growing family.. but was it actually going to grow here? It was completely new territory, and with the mixed reception they had gotten at the children's home... It had been a while since he had felt so legitimately nervous. It was a life-changing process, and he had zero control over it.
Taking a solidifying breath, he headed inside to find Sol. Once he did, he walked up and hugged himself to his husband's side. "Hear anything yet?" he asked, though it wasn't really necessary from what he could see of Sol's body language.

Sol had been doing his best to tidy up when his husband arrived. Sensing the other man’s aura without even having to do much as turn was now second nature to him but that also came with its own draw backs. Such as being able to feel his anxieties before hearing them aloud. Wrapping his arm around the other man, the healer pulled him close and pressed a kiss to the top of his head. “They said we would receive a letter by the end of the week and today’s the last day.” His tone was solemn and quiet, as if he already knew the answer. If they were really going to be chosen they would be waiting this long, would they?

The last day. There was such finality in those words. Koril let out a soft breath and tried to make himself smile. Sol wouldn't see it, but he knew the effort would be noticed. "There's still time," he murmured softly, trying to keep the dwindling hope alight for just a little longer. "I bet that snooty woman is just holding things up for the sake of being a-" he coughed to catch himself from saying a rather coarse word, "-a jerk."
He shook his head and turned to rest his chin on Sol's chest. "I do have good news though. I found the group that we left those kehtra babies with. I looks like they've been fully accepted by their new family." His eyes grew damp with tears; happy for the kehtra, but worried for his husband and himself. Why didn't they have a letter yet...?

“You might as well call her what she is.” Sol snorted, and with a breathless chuckle he rubbed his face into Koril’s hair before rising up. “Just because I’m blind doesn’t mean I can’t smell. It doesn’t matter how much flower oil she covers herself in it won’t replace a bath.” Hearing the news about the kehtra though…It was enough to bring a genuine smile to his face. A sad one but genuine. “See? It all worked out we just…had to give it a little time.”

Koril sighed and shook his head. Still... a low grumble that he wouldn't likely repeat in front of his parents slipped out. Of course, that was followed by a sharp laugh. "I was impressed that you could handle that nasty cloud surrounding her for as long as you did." He could remember that cloying scent all too clearly, and it made him glad that he wasn't one to wear perfumes or cologne. Animal scent acuity was too high for such luxuries.
He nodded and glanced back at the door. He hadn't seen anyone on his way home. There was still time... but the light was dwindling fast. Letting himself bask in Sol's smile a little, he reached up to brush his fingers along Sol's jaw. Give it time... "Did you eat with everyone else? I don't think I could eat much right now, but I know I need something."

Sol smirked. “You’d be surprised with what a little magic can do. A simple spell and all your senses are dulled.” It may have taken away his ability to task, but at the very least Sol hadn’t had to suffer through that any longer than he already had.
His antennae flickered with surprise, but quickly calmed under Koril’s touch. “Not yet, I was waiting for you to get back.” Besides, being around his in-law’s without any sort of news was as awkward as it was painful. He knew they meant well and they didn’t try to make things uncomfortable, but even well meaning inquiries could sting.
“I was thinking we could-”
At first Sol wasn’t sure what he heard until the knocking got louder. “Do you think…?”

Koril managed a playful gasp. "You cheated and didn't share?" he teased, smacking Sol's chest lightly. He would have paid at that point for relief. It was almost a good thing that he'd been nervous enough that the smell wasn't fully on his mind at the time. ..What if the woman had stunk on purpose?! Oh, that was a vicious circle to go down.
Ah, but he could turn the focus to food. It smelled good, and gave his mind and hands something to focus on other than his distress. Then the loud knock sounded. His head snapped around to look and his heart jumped into his throat. After a quick glance at Sol, he practically ran to the front door and swung it open. "Yes?"
Outside was a tired older man with a nearly empty satchel over his shoulder. "Message for-" he paused to cover a yawn, oblivious to the anticipation radiating from the hybrid before him, "-for a Sol or a Kor-" he held out a heavy envelope, jumping with a start when it was grabbed so sharply from his hand.
"THANK YOU," Koril yipped far too loudly while he ran back to Sol. There... he realized his hands were shaking and his heart was pounding in his throat. "You do it," he said without thinking, pushing the envelope against Sol's chest.

Sol couldn’t help the proud little smirk that crossed his face. “Seems like a you problem.” Honestly if he could have done it without being totally obvious he would have but he would have had to keep constant contact. So when the time came it was either save himself or Koril so… For a moment all he did was listen. He very likely could have caught up to him but Sol was too scared to try. What if…? No, no worries; what would be would be. Taking a deep, steadying breath he waited for the other man to come back and did his best not to wring his hands.
He couldn’t help feeling a little jump when he heard Koril’s voice raise. When he returned Sol, without thinking, eagerly took the envelope…only to pause. “Koril…I can’t read this.”

Koril's already flushed cheeks darkened further. "Oh.. right." After a calming breath, he bashfully took the letter back and opened it up. He reached out to hold Sol's arm while his other hand flicked the letter open, the paper rattling with his trembling hands. This was it...
"Sol," he squeaked out, gasping in a sharp breath. His voice was soft though, almost with disbelief. "We did it. They're accepting our application." His legs could barely hold himself up, his arms thrown around Sol for support. The wave of relief had him laughing with joy. "We're gonna be dads! Sol, I'm gonna burst I'm so happy!" It was only the first step, but the road was being cleared.(edited)

“What?” His impatience came out as an all too eager, all too worried squeak. “What does it say?” Was the gasp a good sign? Koril’s tone was so low and try as he might Sol just couldn’t get a good read on him.
“They’re….” He barely even had time to process it before his husband’s arms were around him. For a moment Sol just rocked, too shell shocked by the news to react properly. “You’re serious? You’re not just saying that because it’s what we want to hear?”
Still, cautious as he was, excitement was quickly building inside of him.

His cheeks were already feeling sore from how big his smile was, unable to restrain it in any way. "I wouldn't lie about this! We're. Going. To. Be. PARENTS!" he exclaimed, wiping his eyes on Sol's shirt. There was only one other way to prove it, and he needed to be able to see for that! His voice trembled just like his hand as he read the words off of the paper. Saying it all out loud... There were a few signatures on the bottom, and he couldn't help a laugh. "Even the smelly wench signed it. It's really true."

“Okay!” He laughed, finally feeling all the tension he’d been holding starting to slip away. “Okay, I believe you! I mean, I don’t, but I do. It’s just so much to believe.” How Koril’s family wasn’t hearing all of this Sol would never know but he didn’t care. This moment was theirs!
“Okay, now I KNOW you’re lying and if she really did sign it the world must be ending.” His heart felt like a little birds whose wings couldn’t stop fluttering. He wrapped his arms around Koril and peppered his husbands head with kisses. “Does it say anything else?”

Truthfully, Koril was looking at the paper over and over again to keep it real in his own mind. Somewhere out there, a little baby was just waiting to come home to them... "It's only ending for her," he said with a snort. "It's just beginning for us." He tore his gaze from the paper to watch Sol's face. After the growing strain of no news from the officials, it was good to see that handsome face filled with happiness once again.
Flipping to the second page, his eyes skimmed over the words intently. "It says... Oh! There's a date on here for next week to meet with them again. They.. they might have someone ready for us." He looked up at Sol with surprise. He wasn't sure what he'd been expecting, but that sure seemed quick! "Sol... Do you think there's really...?"

Admittedly it was a little embarrassing to feel his eyes misting up even though he was in a private space with his own husband. There was just something about being so emotionally vulnerable that made Sol feel self-conscious, but this GOOD. There were so many what if’s that had plagued him for WEEKS that now…now the hope of an actual family of their own was here.
“Next week?” His brow pinched at the thought of having to wait longer, but…” There’s a little one waiting for us, Koril….For US.” It was just so hard to believe, but there was so much they had to do! And in a weeks’ time, no less! “It might just be a meeting, but on the off chance that we can actually take them home we really need to be prepared. DO you think they would let us bring them home, that soon?”
