There were so many strange things about this city, and if he hadn’t wanted to attend the University, there was nothing that would have actually brought Lonnie here. The music program was worth it though, and he was able to get a complete free ride with scholarship, so...here he was.
He had been in the city for almost a year now, and honestly? He just wasn’t sure...why people lived here. Disappearances happened so often that the news just didn’t seem to care any longer...and the strange...vigilantes? Pretend super heroes? Whatever they were...kept running around causing havoc and destruction.
It honestly felt like this was some kind of comic book world made real, and comic books had never been something that Lonnie cared about.
Classes had just started up again, and Lonnie was just now able to go out and get something to eat, even though it was quite late by his own standards...but as he headed back to his dorm, a bag filled with a take out bowl of ramen in one hand, and another filled with several bottled and canned teas from the shop in the other, his eyes landed on one of the figures...seemingly just...standing there.
He didn’t seem to be busy, and the male thought for a moment, his expression rather bored, but a little curious, and finally he walked over, digging out a can of milk tea to be an ice breaker, and asked one of his many, worldly, point blank questions.
“Just what are you? This isn’t a movie set in the desert.”

There were many things Lopezite knew about Lonnie Zhang, and even with being certain he’d have been a good candidate for the Negaverse it had taken him a while to decide that he was going to approach him instead of just write a report and submit him for referral.
Lopezite had not ever brought someone into the Negaverse, but it really seemed like now was as good a time as ever, especially with things being as chaotic as they were. He needed people he could trust--respectful, mature, career oriented.
Lonnie fit the bill. He’d had Lopezite’s attention since he saw him at a concert; he’d been impressed with the whole performance but perhaps hadn’t realized how good Lonnie was until he’d heard no less than eight women--and a few men--complimenting his skill and appearance.
So, he’d investigated.
Lonnie hit every checkmark and he couldn’t find any red flags to keep him away from the man.
Lopezite decided to intervene before someone else could.
“No, not a movie. But the answer to that question is a bit loaded.” He was glad that Lonnie approached him. It was far more discreet over here than out in the open.
“I’ve found that most people aren’t prepared for the truth. It can be a bit overwhelming. And yet, I think you’d take it just fine. But I have to ask anyway. If you had the opportunity to change the world for the better, would you take it? If you had the power to make a difference, would you want to?”

Had the power to make a difference? What was this? It sure sounded like a movie. Some kind of an origin story from a bad novel, honestly. Lonnie watched the man, still holding out the milk tea, and huffed softly.
“Given the chance, would everyone not wish to change the world? Of course I would want to make a difference. Everything is falling to pieces. If you don’t wish to make a difference, you are a fool.”
His eyes flickered over the male’s outfit again, idly thinking that perhaps this man was a fool regardless of his choices to make a difference or not.
“I am prepared for the truth. Just tell me. This city is something else, and I want to know just what it is. Also, if you do not care for milk tea, tell me that as well. Or take what I am offering. And. Tell me what it is that you seem to be offering.”
It felt as though he had been baited, but. Sometimes you had to put yourself out there in order to solve a mystery. Even if it wasn’t one that was all that important.

Lopezite offered another smile and accepted the milk tea. “Thank you. I don’t mean to be rude, I didn’t want to accept it if you wanted nothing to do with me.”
He did not indulge, not immediately, if only because this conversation was far more important.
“I’m offering you power. I’m offering you the chance to tap into something greater than what you are. To help you achieve your full potential. I work with an organization that’s devoted to ensuring the protection of Earth. I think you could help with that. You seem like a practical fellow. I don’t expect you to look at me and take me seriously. If you think me a madman, I ask that you only give me the chance to prove that this isn’t a joke.”
He extended his free hand and summoned his sword to it, giving Lonnie enough time to see it before he dismissed it.
“It’s not a trick.”
He wasn’t trying to show off, he was trying to present an argument. He teleported a few feet behind where he was standing, and walked back to Lonnie. “It’s a skill. And I can teach you. And you can help us make a better world.”

Lonnie nodded slowly, somewhat pleased that his gift had been accepted, but more than a little perturbed when first this…person made a sword appear out of nothing...and then when he...moved. Like magic.
“How can these things make a better world? I understand power...but why would swords and…” He paused, then drew out a milk tea of his own, opening the can and taking two long pulls from it before finishing his thought.
“Violence is rarely the answer in solving issues. Even though most people seem to think so. What can I make better with such power? What is it that needs fixing so badly that violence is the preferred fix?”
He took another pull from the can, awaiting Lopezite’s answer.
His own hadn’t been a no.

“Because part of why our world is in such turmoil is because people are here who shouldn’t be, and it’s disrupting the natural balance. I don’t know if they know how to go back to their own worlds or if they’re just being stubborn, but the longer they’re here, the worse things get. I’m not saying violence is necessarily the answer, but it’s helpful to have the power to protect yourself when they resort to it.”
He finally opened the can and took a sip; it seemed like he was unfamiliar with the flavor but pleased by it all the same.
“I don’t like violence, myself. But sometimes it’s the only language people will listen to. There are things that are threatening this planet, and we’ve been able to protect it so far. But, I don’t know how much longer we’re going to be able to keep it--and everyone on it--safe. It seems like every time we move in the right direction, a new threat appears. We need all the help we can get, and I think you could be instrumental in helping us get the support we need. I’ve heard you play. Your music speaks to people. With the power we can give you, you might be able to use it to solve problems before anyone turns to violence.”

“And how will you give it? I want to protect the world. To change things. And if it can be done with minimal violence.” Lonnie shrugged, looking down at his can and then back up to Lopezite. “I can help stop threats. If you think that I can do that. I would love to try. And if my music and assist in the changing and protecting of the city…”
Lonnie had no way to even pretend that such a thing wouldn’t be wonderful.
“Grant me the power, if it pleases you. I want to do what I can to drive out those who are not meant to be here. You say you know of me, well, then you know I put two hundred percent effort into all of the things that I do, so I will do my best.”
If he didn’t like the responsibility well. He didn’t have to keep at it.

Lopezite thought this was a good answer; he nodded and downed the rest of the milk tea before he dismissed the can to subspace so he could focus completely on Lonnie.
“It would please me greatly to have you as an ally, Lonnie. And I apologize in advance because there is only one part of this which is unfortunate. The first step is the hardest, but power is not born from nothing. I know you will make good use of it,” he said, and slipped his hand into Lonnie’s chest.
He gripped his starseed, he pushed, and--
No.
Something was wrong. He kept the flow of Chaos for a few seconds, wondering if perhaps he was somehow at fault for this, but in his heart he knew.
Lonnie had not already been awakened to power; if he had been, certainly he would have declined the offer.
Which meant he was not awakened, and Lopezite was not powerful enough to do so.
But a General King would be.
He kept his hand in his chest for a few seconds longer and then finally, he nodded to himself.
“...But Destiny has greater plans for you, it seems. You are more special than I imagined already. I will take you to see a greater power than myself. And I will explain all of this, I promise.”
His hand was already on Lonnie; it wasn’t more effort to teleport the both of them.
An Agent, or a Senshi, Lonnie could still do great things for the Negaverse.
They just needed to get to someone who could see that future realized.
