Sariza wasn’t used to calmer patrols. If anything she preferred them to the more action based ones. Days like today really let her comb over the city and inspect every little aspect, sometimes finding hiding spaces for criminals that she normally wouldn’t. As she passed through several vendors who had set up for the day a particularly nervous yaeli caught her eye. “Can I help you with something?” The Oban guard took a few steps closer, her light gaze looking over the woman’s wares.

“A-ah, sorry, no, I’m fine. Just passing through.” The moment Xenia’s eyes saw the passing guard she started to hurriedly pack up. She wasn’t stupid enough to think that staying in the area was a smart idea, especially with the amount of stolen artifacts she had. The ooing locals wouldn’t think twice about some of the stamps or emblems, but a trained eye….that would prove problematic! The little yaeli scooped up everything she had sprawled out on her table into a large, leather sack and started to move away.

Yeah, that wasn’t suspicious at all. “....Right. So I’ll need to see the proper documentation for you to sell those...spices and...is that Belrean bronze?” Sariza crossed her arms under her breasts, raising one eyebrow towards the yaeli. The woman didn’t look to be any older than herself, but there was a nervous energy about her that just screamed illegal transactions. She didn’t look like a thief, so some sort of smuggler or at the very least a vendor who knew smugglers.

Xenia smiled nervously and the satchel. “I’ve got it around here somewhere; I’m sure I do. Just give me a moment to-” In an instant she was taking off. It was almost comical, really. The bag was nearly as heavy as she was, definitely a lot wider, but she acted as if it didn’t weigh anything! Her curls bounced as she ran, bumping into passersby as she went and damn near hyperventilating. If she was caught it wouldn’t take long for them to figure out everything else she’d done and that would keep her behind bars for life!

“Hey! Stop!” Sariza wasn’t nearly fast enough to stop her from running, but she was fast enough to catch up to her in the street. It wasn’t as if it was particularly hard, though. One tiny yaeli with a large bag in a busy area meant she wasn’t moving horribly fast. A time or two Sariza would reach out to put her hand atop the other woman’s shoulder only to be shrugged off at the next move.

“No! I’m sorry, but no!” If she didn’t lighten her load the guard would take her down for sure! So, in a desperate attempt to put some distance between herself and the Oban, Xenia started throwing out pieces of bronze into the street. It was enough to confuse the guard, who seemed to slow if only to avoid being hit. Either way Xenia didn’t care; she just kept running and dodging. “Can’t do it!” There was an alley up ahead. Should she go in? With only seconds to decide she decided that yes, yes that was a good idea. After all she knew it would open up by the docks and she needed that boost.

“You’re only making this worse on yourself!” Sariza caught one of the falling bits of bronze and used it like a weapon. She angled it just right before tossing it at the fleeing yaeli, catching the woman on the back of her shin. It was enough to make her stumble, losing several other pieces in the process, but it did little to stop her. If anything it just made her go faster. What was with her?! All the other yaeli she’d ever dealt with up till this point had been passive at best!

Just up ahead. All she had to do was make it to those barrels...“Then stop chasing me!” Bursting out of the alley way, Xenia stumbled onto the open street and looked out at the ships docked in front of her. What few sailors were mingling about the docks turned to look their way before smartly looking the other way. Whatever business a foreigner had with the law was beyond their level of care.

“Stop running!” Somewhere along her training she’d been told it was critical to give them a chance, if for no other reason than covering their own butt, but Sariza really didn’t like taking criminals in. She’d seen far too many good men and women turn to it when they had no other option and something about this woman gave her that sort of vibe. Still...something had to be done. So, as soon as they were out of the alley she reached forward to grab her wrist. “...Can’t escape me now so you might as well just turn yourself over.”

“Don’t count me out just yet.” In one fell swoop Xenia wrenched her thin wrist out of Sariza’s hold and ducked towards the barrels. Her hands grasped the hilts of hidden swords and when she came back up the yaeli was fully armed. The weight of the blades was still something she was becoming used to, but in all honesty Xenia had more confidence in herself now that she ever did. If this really DID come down to a fight she might not win, but she’d give it her all!

To say Sariza was surprised was an understatement. A dagger she may have imagined, but this? “Raising a sword against an Oban official? You’re either incredibly brave or beyond stupid.” Raising gauntleted fists, Sariza charged. She swung her right leg out for a solid kick to the yaeli’s sternum; one that was ceremoniously blocked by the side of the sword. It was obvious that the other woman had SOME training, but not enough to make the guard worry.

This is bad. “Honestly, I can’t decide which is which these days.” Xenia grunted. Every attack that came from the Oban was measured and so much more precise than anything she was giving out. She moved like a trained weapon, even though she was unarmed, and it was all Xenia could do not to be knocked over. Step by step she was being backed away from the docks toward the city proper and a flutter of panic was starting to overtake her.

“Did you SERIOUSLY think you could outlast me?” At this point Sariza wasn’t even interested in dishing out damage. All she had to do was wear down the smaller female. “I almost feel bad for you-” Still, there was a point of pride to it, and Sariza had enough. She knocked Xenia’s sword away before wrenching it out of her hand completely and flinging it to the ground. “-almost.”

“I might not be able to outlast you, but all I needed was to buy time.” And just like that they were surrounded. A hoard of matorians crowded in around the pair and the surprise of it all caused the guard to step back until her spine touched a man’s dagger.

A particularly scarred woman came up behind Xenia and wrapped her arm around the yaeli’s waist. “Lookouts said you took off this way; sorry it took so long.”

Xenia couldn't surprise the shiver that ran down her spine as her 'girlfriend's' hand splayed out across her skin.

Crap. Now it was Sariza’s turn to panic. Everytime she turned her gaze more matorians seemed to appear and each one looked as bloodthirsty as the last. She’d really done it this time...“Just like a smuggler to run in a pack.” Sariza snarled. Her hand moved to her side where she had a hidden blade of her own, but the one pressing into her back gained some leverage. It was clear that if she so much as sneezed a war would break out.
