Talrise was the souternmost city in Belrea and had over the years blossomed into a tourist trap. They were nestled next to a large inlet of water that was absolutely perfect for those looking to let loose and despite the practical need for such a spot due to their creation of water vessels most just saw it as a 'hit' in the summer.
Maritza had certainly never visited it before. The city itself was far too out of the way, filled to the brim with crowds and despite her curiosity for ship building she didn't dare get involved in all of that. She may not have ever gone had her Captain not given her tickets. He said it was a mostly private beach where only those who paid higher prices could go and thus the crowds would be minimal at best. He'd intended to go with his own family, but his children had come down with a sudden illness and - well- she'd been the only other one with family that he could think of.
And now, here they were.

Zadia couldn't stand water.
The moment her mother had mentioned Talrise she'd put her foot down. There was absolutely no way she was going to go, she would never be caught dead on a beach and -
-and now she was.
Zadia parked her blanket as far away from the water as possible and laid out several items atop it to keep it from moving in the wind. Her hair was pulled back into a neat little bun atop her head that was mostly hidden behind a rather large sun hat. "Do you need help with the umbrella?"

It hadn't been Ujana's intention to necessarily 'surprise' her family with her sudden appearance in Belrea but here she was. She'd been following a fighting ring through Tendaji and when they had expressed their intent to go across the sea she'd gone with them! It was good, steady money that she could send back and the opportunity to venture beyond what she'd already seen a dozen times was too good to pass up.
Of course when she'd seen the old man she'd excitedly ran up to him in the middle of the street and just hadn't seemed to move on yet.
"I've got it." Ujana buried the hilt of the umbrella into the sand and slowly pulled on the rope cord to extend it. Unlike her younger sister, or Maritza, Ujana was dressed much less modestly. And while the crowd may have been sparse on that little bit of beach there was still enough to draw their eyes over to the little group.

As his children grew, Uquin had finally been allowed more and more time with his lover in Belrea. It still wasn't his favorite place, but his children, for the most part, had their own interests and jobs. For the first time in years, he wasn't spending months at a time apart from Maritza - the fact that two of their children permanently resided with, or close to, her made that even easier.
Lioe still remained, as ever, in Tale, but he hadn't expressed any dismay over Uquin traveling, more and more, to see Maritza.
It was... nice. But that meant that the twelve years he'd spent in Tale, tantalizingly close to his grandchildren and oldest daughters, had morphed into that same longing and distance.
So imagine his delight when Ujana appeared. He'd embraced her heartily, and though their home was too full (what with the family staying with them) to offer her space, he insisted they spend time together.
With a wide-brim hat and conservative clothing, Uquin had started with no intention of getting into the ocean but - alas, it was so hot that it sounded appealing right about now.

Beaches should be fun, right? He should be here, happily ogling Belrean men and women, enjoying the rare excuse for immodesty. It was what any teenager should be delighted for. Yet, his mother had brought them to a largely private beach, meaning the only people here that weren't family were small blips in the distance. He scuffed his bare feet in the sand, grumbling unhappily. The only mostly undressed person here was his SISTER- and that was sickening, even if others on the beach were delighted by her attire.
Already, he was looking for the first opportunity to float away and, hopefully, find a pretty boy or girl he could flirt with out of earshot of his sister and mother.
"Mom, you think I can fish here? Or would I hook a youngling or something?"

Maritza pursed her lips. "You should be okay so long as you go off to the side a bit; stay away from those Geian kids, though." She nodded towards a trio of young boys, each pudgier than the last, whose simple minds only extended into putting sand down their shorts. Even if her son wasn't at risk of impaling one she still wouldn't want him around them for fear of catching their stupidity.
Turning to Zadia, seeing the way her daughter was already prepping her spot with a few books, made Maritza sigh. Normally she was very encouraging of their academic interests but... "Why don't you go with him?" If anything it might encourage Isaia to stay within eyesight.
And when she turned, keen on speaking with Uquin, Maritza came face to face with Ujana's bo- "Spirits, what are you doing?"

"Something I've been wanting to do for a long time." Ujana's grin was absolutely devilish as she bent at the waist, wrapped her arms around Maritza's thin waist and hoisted the lightning woman over her shoulder. Despite the squalling and punches thrown at her back Ujana took off like a wild beast toward the water.
Despite Maritza's cursed protests Ujana kept going until the water's edge lapped at her ankles. "Come on, keep screaming; make it fun!" It was only then that she stopped, but just briefly. The leafling lifted the other woman just long enough to better position her before all out throwing her as far into the water as she possibly could.
When her orange hair had dipped below the waves, Ujana turned her impish grin towards her father and held out her hand. "Come on! The water feels great!"

Zadia wanted....absolutely no part in whatever that was. For a moment her family had been peaceably settling in and then her older sister unleashed hell. The teen had never seen her mother terrified in her life, but watching her face bob against Ujana's back as she ran just made Zadia all the more grateful it hadn't been her.
She didn't even known someone could be thrown that far.
Still...raising from her blanket, Zadia tied a sarong around her waist and came up by Isaia and Uquin. "...Are you sure she's just an earthling? And not some kind of monster?"

Oh. Well. He didn't disagree with Maritza's view on those Geian boys. He watched them a bit disgustedly, then turned his attention back to his family. "Ujana?! What in blazes are you--" Uquin could do little but watch with a sharp, disapproving look on his face as Ujana accosted his lover, physically lifting the smaller woman and TOSSING her into the sea.
He was already moving forward, intent on wading out into the water to Maritza's side, when Ujana turned, like a snake, to face him, pearly teeth bared in a threatening grin that made him prickle with discomfort.
He narrowed his eyes, pointing at her. "Don't you dare."

Isaia had turned, intent on fetching his fishing pole, when the chaos of his mother being kidnapped happened. He watched with wide-eyed delight as his mother was thrown, kicking and screaming, tossing his head back to let out a vicious laugh as she went, shrieking.
"I don't know, but I owe her so much."
He then watched, pleased, as Ujana rounded on his father, scooting away from the old man lest Ujana's attention move to harassing her little brother instead.

Ujana cracked her knuckles as a particularly ominous wave slammed into her thick calves. She took a few slow, menacing steps; each movement bringing her one inch closer to her father. At least half of her hair was soaked by that point, the heavy weight of it enough to slow any normal earthling down, but not her.
Never her.
"Get ready!" And just like that, Ujana was barreling up the sand toward him, arms out to the sides ready to scoop Uquin up as soon as she was close.

It didn't matter how much or how loudly Maritza protested, she'd been thrown into the sea never the less.
The initial toss had been terrifying. She'd never really been swimming much more than the occasional dip in a river, but even that was controlled. So, when she'd hit the water she wasn't exactly sure what to do at first other than to flail. Thankfully her survival instincts had kicked in enough to get her head above water with a fair amount of sputtering and a few cross glares.
And...it was all in time to see her children cackling and Uquin - bless his soul - trying his best to 'protect' them from the sea creature.
"You're doomed." She murmured. Even before Ujana crouched she knew he held no power over her. Love? Yes, but if she wanted to toss him off a cliff she would...
Swimming closer to shore, Maritza moved in just far enough so that her shoulders were at least out of the water and....she also moved a good few steps to the side, just to avoid the oncoming battle.

Her mother's reaction was enough to get a grin out of Zadia, but her brother's shriek pulled one out of her as well. Zadia was near cackling by the time Ujana's attention had turned onto their father and she clapped her hands with a chorus of 'sweep his legs! his legs' as she side stepped, not so eager to join in herself.
"It's like watching a wild boar." She commented with a broad grin. "Oh, oh, look! Mother's trying to hide in the waves! She knows we can see her, right?" True, Maritza was trying to blend in by crouching, but that hair...she couldn't have stuck out more if she'd tried.

!!! Uquin held his hands up, briefly considering summoning some desperate magic to fling at her, but - he knew even before he did it that he couldn't. He could only resign himself to his fate. Still, when she slammed into him and lifted him up, the old man gave an undignified yell, draped over her massive shoulder like a sack of vegetables.
The smacks he gave to her shoulderblades were half-hearted, already defeated. "So this is where we stand, daughter." He sighed, closing his eyes with the dramatics of a true, disapproving parent. "Very well. Give me your worst."

There was something so exhilarating about seeing his bossy parents man-handled this way. But - Isaia wasn't so foolish as to not suspect he would be next. "She's a force of nature, that's for sure - and Mom didn't stand a CHANCE."He leaned into his sister, slinging an arm around her shoulders, grinning. "I think, sweet sister of mine, that we should run."
