                  Character Name: Magdalene, Bellamy
                  Nicknames: Baal, Baabaa
                  Gender: Male
                  Age: 29
                  Birthday: 01/01
                  Height: 5' 11" [demon: 6'11"]
                  Weight: "soft body" 150 lbs
                  Sexuality: Bisexual
                  Role: Sin of Sloth
                  Job: Secretary
Weapon: Ring of Solomon; a catalyst for spells, particularly of the summoning variety, rather than a weapon in the literal sense. Though a powerful artifact, Baal lacks the demonic energy to utilize it to its full potential. In fact, it is only because such a potent artifact is in his possession that his aura and influence are even able to hold their own against the guardians or his fellow sins. On Baal's hand, the ring can at best enhance the power of the body part it resides on and bind and restrain as it master wills, manifesting its power in a likeness that takes after its bearer, invisible to mortal eyes. For Baal, this is chains. Though, when he takes on his true form, the chains blossom into vines bearing red speckled flowers of white. Be it as it may, though he cannot make those bound by his magic submit as the ring's original bearer could, he can still manipulate the binds: tightening, loosening, and tossing the hapless victim about.

                  : Personality
Acedia: negligence, a lack of care; esp. spiritually; also translated as apathetic. Originally, the Sin of Sloth was translated as such, and Baal, chosen as the newest representative of such Sin, represents his sin well. It is, after all, the only apparent reason he was chosen as he certainly has no enthusiasm for doing the Devil's work.

With a soft and fluffy outer appearance and a lazy demeanor, Bellamy Magdalene looks and is 100% ready for a nap 100% of the time. If he could get away with it, he would spend the whole day napping. Sometimes creates more work for himself by trying to get less work done. Don't ask. He doesn't want to think about those times if he can help it. He has little care for himself, much less his surroundings, and though such apathy may appear harmless at first, it also means that he doesn't care what happens to anyone but himself. Luckily, he is a man with few goals. At worst, one should be wary of the times when he is fed up with boredom and on the lookout for an injection of excitement into his listless life.

However, that being said, more often than not, Baal just wants to sleep and forget. He will often try to bring others down with him into dreamland. A blessing and a bane. It could force some overworkers into getting some well needed rest, especially as he rarely attempts to force anyone into his ruses. Baal much rather prefers to make the other side think that it was all their idea. He does not like violence, nor does he directly wish harm unto others despite being a demon. He just simply... Whenever he may think it is not right to hurt others, he simply remembers that he is a demon so why does it matter.

Plants and animals are the exception to Baal's slothful rule as he is quite assiduous in taking care of his pets and house plants. They are the only connections he has not had shattered, and for that, he cherishes them all the more. Other than these small creature pleasures he has left, however, he's given up. There is nothing else for him in any of these three planes, which only makes the draw towards those that catch his attention and attraction all the stronger.

No matter how harmless Baal appears to be, do remember this. The opposite of good is not evil; it's apathy. The only thing worse than hate is indifference.

                  _BACKGROUND x x x

                  ▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂

If at first you don't succeed, try, try, try again.
and again and again and again and again and... but what if you never succeed? What if no matter how hard you try, what good you do, what lives you save, you are never allowed to succeed? No matter what you do, you are a devil, and the devil must not win.

Heaven before there was a Hell... before any angels rebelled and there was just peace under God's rule. Baal knew of such a heaven, in the long ago distant past, but he can hardly bring up even the shadow of that memory now. It is a past at once alien and impossible, forgotten all the more because they were memories so cherished when he first fell. His sin? By God's decree, apathy, indolence, and lack of faith. He hid from God's eyes his older twin brother out of fear for his kin's safety and hope that he could convince his kin to turn away from the darkness Lucifer so tempted with, bring him back to seeing the light underneath their beloved God. Everyday, struggling to do what was right, he protected his brother and tried to speak sense into him. As he dared to provide his twin with safe haven and a second chance, he cared not for for God. For not decrying and destroying the rebel in the name of God, he slacked off on his work and lazed around in gross waste of the gift of life granted by God. By caring for his kin, he must have turned his back on God and his scriptures. Such was his judgement, and the lightning by which Baal fell from grace to join his older brother on an earth barren, long before humans would even be created from the dirt by God's hands.

On that empty earth, Baal wandered dazed and uncertain with broken wings of feathers singed a mottled grey. His sins, devoted as he was still to God, he accepted wholeheartedly. Never would he have changed what he had done, but that he had committed cardinal crime against his Lord, Baal would accept judgement and price. Be it because he had faith in God's will or because he would rather fall than turn his back on his cherished brother, he would accept. The question, then, lay in what next? When all he could do with heaven was to turn his head up to the skies in distant longing, and when all he could stomach of hell was nothing at all, where was a misplaced devil like him to go? Among what should he walk?

The answer came with men, those beautiful beings created in God's image. Baal saw them first while he wandered through barren deserts and lifeless dunes, oases of compassion and ambition alike. Though the humans scattered were small and but puddles in this dangerous world, he was drawn instantly towards them, tending and caring for the small sprouts of civilization that God's gaze neglected. As one neglected by both heaven and hell, his powers were pitiful in the eyes of many a devil or angel. However, even the weakest powers were like a miracle to those he aided. Where they suffered and struggled, a weary wanderer would step into their midst, perform small miracles and leave until he was needed again. He asked for nothing, and yet, it came naturally to those he appeared for to worship such a benevolent "god" as they began to call him.

At first, Baal tried to stop the misconceptions, but that only seemed to be taken the wrong way. In his ignorance, deeming that certainly God would gently teach the people of their folly once his attention could be spared to their plight, Baal gave up and let the young race think as they wanted. He was not God. No matter what silly methods they devised to worship or questionable traditions, if he were to try and dictate as God were to, then that would truly be sacrilege for who would he, a fallen angel, be to think he could speak for the most holiest of this world? Dishonored as he was, with his wings of leather and twisted horns, he would respect his place and merely observe, offer assistance, and hope that those he watched would remain happy and kind.

So it was that the Israelites came upon the many kingdoms he'd cherished as the fruits of his labor. Like a scourge, they arrived with God's backing, and many a time, these kingdoms that worshipped their idols and statues, passed on from the years when Baal would appear in person, would welcome the Israelites with open arms. Baal would whisper from the shadows that these chosen peoples should be accepted. Some listened, others didn't. As it would happen, it didn't matter what choice they made for any kingdom that was not God's was summarily executed by His will. Those who harmed the chosen people were smote as enemies to God. Those who mingled and even allowed the foreigners to marry and join families without judgement were framed as whores and servants of the Devil then smote as enemies to God.

Baal could but watch in horror, and pick up what dwindling fragments he could of the people abandoned by God. Find the scattered pieces, assist them once more, and help them rebuild, only to watch it all torn asunder. By the time he realized God destroyed anything that wasn't His creation, it was stubbornness that drove Baal. Drove Baal until he grew numb in his tenacity. Numb, tired, and defeated. Compared to when he first spotted those glistening figures of the world's first men, looking upon them after having so many innocent lives lost because of his interference, they were dull, lackluster, and... And almost repugnant. In their image, he could still see the God that ruled with an iron fist and merciless rule.

Once more, Baal could only wander. To hell he went because there was no longer anywhere else he could go. Broken and lost, Baal wandered hell aimlessly and without purpose, tasting of each Sin with no care. The temptations were enjoyable, and as there was no point in resisting, why try? A millennia passed, of which there was hardly anything to note except for an entertaining episode with Solomon the wise. Falling only deeper into apathy the longer he spent in Hell, Baal joined Lucifer's army at some point during this seamless years, influenced by his one surviving kin. Just in time, too, for the birth of Christ and one of God'ds biggest moves to establish his influence over the Grey Zone.

Ask him anything about this war, and Baal would claim to forget, and truly, he had no reason to remember. He had stopped caring for most things by the time of this confrontation, and by the end of it, he had become an even greater void within. Tempt the diligent Mary Magdalene into indolence. Strip her from Christ's side and leave him with one less light with which to guide people. Needless to say, as any who's read the bible could answer, he failed. Even though Baal tarried by her side until her dying day, when Mary of Magdalene passed and ascended as a saint, Baal returned alone to hell.

He left soon thereafter to once more wander the Grey Zone aimlessly. However, be it wisdom or fear, he no longer bothered to care for another living being that would fall under God's interest. The beasts and flora were fine, but men were treated with cold disdain. At best, used to fulfill any fantasies he may have had the urge to indulge upon, then left without a second glance. He was little better with the denizens of hell, and in search of creature comforts, used men and demons alike to build small personal fortunes. He came quite adept at the art of making money with the blood, sweat, tears and others, in fact. Unfazed with loss, he had plenty of experience with rebuilding fortunes from scratch under ever shifting names.

Only after Lucifer assigned Baal to tempt France in the latter half of the first century CE did Baal settle upon a single Grey Zone name: Bellamy Magdalene. Those who knew him suspected. Those who didn't puzzled. Nonetheless, there was no answer found by any. Bellamy Magdalene, a man never found in the eye of the public, and yet mentioned throughout private ledgers of all sorts and kinds. Food manufacturing. Blood diamonds. Bonds and securities. Weapon deals. Investments in the latest technologies. Drug trade. Oil drilling. Movies and entertainment. Textbook production. And more. Not all at once, but his dabbling in businesses throughout nearly 500 years spanned a wide range, fingers dipping in and out with the rapidity of one easily bored.

So then... why is someone like Bellamy Magdalene working as a secretary at Sapphire Industries? Well, because Lucifer told him to.

                  : Notable Features
Beneath the plush clothes and upon the soft features of porcelain, Bellamy has a jarringly plentiful plethora of scars. As a demon, he could just whisk them all away, especially when he transforms into a human, but he doesn't. Why?... Eh, probably because he's too lazy. After all, he's just Sloth.
The Ring of Solomon is a gold signet ring on his right pinkie. «
                  : Anything else?
Because he's a demon who could care less and thus has double the reason to not resist, Bellamy is very susceptible to influence, even when it is not directed at him. Often times, Bell will reflect the sins and virtues in close proximity, particularly when feels like he's too "boring" and wants something exciting to happen. «
Powerful and coveted as Solomon's seal is, Baal received it not as a gift but for its safekeeping. Ancient as he is, he commands the status to bear the ring, yet unimpressive as he is, he will not be a threat with the ring, and finally with all he has experienced, he can be trusted to keep the ring out of heaven's grasp. «
Prior to becoming a secretary, Baal stabilized and grew his wealth of assets as something like a day trader. I.e. he slept most of the day and would occasionally shift his investments to something risky whenever he wanted to work a bit harder. Yeah... Even in hell, he's considered a bit of a lost cause when it comes to work, so he usually isn't assigned any jobs by Lucifer. «
Baal has a wealth of houseplants, Blue the Russian Blue, and Buddy the Golden Retriever to keep him company. «
As little faith he may have in Lucifer, he has even less in God. «
