They had been on the fishing vessel called "The Voodoo Secret" for a day or two before they were set to work on the same chore.Umen thanked the gods and set about trying to make the best impression possible. He worked hard and stayed kinda quiet as they pulled in a heavy net together. He admired her wirey strength. She put her whole heart into pulling. This net was particularly full and a bit of handful for just two, but he didn't want anyone else to come over to help so he let his arms burn with effort.

Soon he hoped he would get a chance to talk to her and introduce himself properly.

Well had she ever picked the right ship to work on. Even the captain was handsome. She couldn't wait to tell her sister all about it. it truly had been a while since they had sat down together over tea. She made a mental note to visit when she could. She was surprised she could think straight after all of this hard work. She tried to remind herself about how much stronger she should get after doing this and what that would mean for her sword game.

Okay even she was quiet today. He had seen her with her sisiter and had been amazed at how much young females could talk in shear volume and speed. He would have to say something to break the ice or this opportunity would be for naught. Everything he thought of sounded wrong somehow.

He settled for, "You are a very hard worker, how did you build so much stamina?" He peeked out of the corner of his eye, hoping that he had not accidentally found one of those feminine anger triggers. Sweet one moment and like a scalded viper the next.

Rista was just a tad preoccupied for a moment, as she was trying to hold a rather large fish around the middle and was quickly losing control of the ungainly creature.

"Oh?" she giggled, "Well I don't quite feel like the proud warrior that I'm supposed to be." The fish escaped and she scrabbled to grasp it again on the deck, unwilling to let it escape for long. It was terribly embarrassing but she couldn't deny that she was also having a lot of fun. The sooner she caught it, the sooner she could return to decorum and dignity. She hissed quietly in annoyance as the fish flopped just out of reach.

He did his best not to chuckle at her predicument. The fish happened to flop up next to his boot and he pinned it so she could catch up.

"I don't know I think you are handling this quite well."

He picked the fish up by the gill flap so it couldn't wiggle away. He handed the salmon back with a small flourish and a shy smile. "My lady, your fish."

He prayed that he was funny. He wasn't used to too much talking.

Graciously she accepted the fish using the method he was demonstrating, it pt proved most effective. "Thank you." She said sincerely. "This is much better, I should have asked in the first place." She had been so focused on working hard that she didn't think to ask about the method. Moving on! she went back to extracting the rest of the fish from the net. She started to sing on e of her fathers favorite sea shanties.

She started to sing quietly, it was a tune he recognized, and he couldnt help but join her, with his own surprisingly deep voice. It had been forever since he had sang. He had forgotten how good it felt. His voice continued to rise in volume until the sound of their singing wreathed around the ship. When the long song ended, the net was almost finished and on its way back out again.

“Where dod you learn that song?”

“Its one my father picked up from the locals, he used to use it as a lullaby for us.” Her Dad had been so good at being a single Father. She looked up embarrassed she had revealed so much to a complete stranger. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to babble on about ancient history.” She felt like it was because she was on the ocean. It soothed her for some reason in a way that the land could not. She suspected it was because of the vast amount of magic the ocean held. She took a moment to to check the horizon. No animals, how boring.

“Your Father was from Zena I take it?” It made sense since she was an iceling.
“Don’t worry about it, I don’t mind.”
He noticed her stare out to sea and took a long look himself.
“What do you think is out there?” Maybe a bit of a philosophical question depending on how she chose to answer it.

There could be wildlife, dieties, mysteries, novelties, anything really, even old merchant or pirate ships. Though the most useful would probably be eroded in short order by the sea.

“Yes and no. Actually my adopted father is a shifter from Jauhar. My blood father and mother passed away when I was a young woman. I was adopted from an orphanage in Zena. “Do not worry, it was a long time ago and you had no way of knowing.” She had gone on to have a good childhood, Isolder had been wonderful and had always treated them like they're his very own children.
“Next net will be coming in soon. How about a hot tea before it reaches us.” She was a bit chilled so she folded her arms over herself. It was a misty morning and cooler than she anticipated. She looked out to sea. “I'm not sure, but I want to find out.”

He tilted his head in recognition. She had a certain fire in her that he admired very much, she would make an excellent best friend, he had always wanted one.

He had once shared a moment with an icling male deep in winter, but somehow he hadn't bumped into the fellow again. He wondered where he had went after the great meteor shower.

"I'm game to go."

An adventure was always welcome.

She grabbed his arm gently and tugged him over to the kitchen. Seating him, she bustled about making him a tea. She handed him a steaming cup and sat down to drink her own. It was very fine tea, rich and sweet. "Cream or sugar?" she inquired sweetly.

She had always loved the tea parties with her sister and her father when they were not busy.

"Cream please."
She was very gracious, well trained in hostess art yet casual and not uptight at all. What do you like in your tea. He hadn't seen her put anything in hers. He wouldn't think she would be a sugar girl.

He took a sip, after the cream was added and couldn't hold back his smile. This was a great idea.

"Thank you."

"I don't take anything in my tea, and you are quite welcome."
She relaxed, fishing was hard work and her muscles gave off a pleasant tired hum.

"So what exactly brought you here?"

She had come for the experience and the small but reasonable sum, they would make on the venture.

"Well, I don't have any experience with any other kind of work, so I figured I'd better learn something, or starve."

He looked away, the memories were still so fresh, the loss of his parents. It had been like any other day, except that they had never come home from work. They had recently moved and Umen had not known anyone in the town, so he went back to the place he had called home.
