Pounamu was thoroughly lost. Without Naia to guide her around the little hybrid was constantly just wandering the shores around her homeland. Was she here or there? Pounamu crossed her arms and tilted her head as she stared at a series of rocks lining up along the cliffs. “Left or right?” She mused as she tried to figure out the mental map that she was envisioning based on her past trials and errors. What about up? Oh! That wasn’t too horrible an idea, was it? A dark hand reached for a rock as she began trying to climb the cliffs. Eventually she hit a snag when a piece of the cliff crumbled beneath her hands and she tumbled backwards with a scream.

Quiana had been bathing along the shore, her arms tucked neatly beneath her head as she soaked up the sun’s warmth, but a sudden scream made a sigh escape from her lips. Was someone actually in trouble all the way out here? She had made certain to go further away from the Elidae encampment as to avoid trouble but here it was. I suppose I should go investigate. She thought with a small frown before slowly shifting, her hands brushing away any sand that she had accumulated while lazing about the beach. Either it was someone’s very lucky or misfortune day depending on how quickly they needed a hero considering how relaxed the Aishan girl was in her movements as she finally ventured away from her nesting spot and towards the source of the screaming.

Oh ocean spirits! Was this going to be her ending?! Pounamu shivered as her fingers tightened around the vine that had offered her salvation in the face of death. Even if the vine was rough and thorny against her drying skin the girl was determined to keep holding on. If she let go now then surely she would die! Tears gathered in her eyes as Pounamu kept closing the different colored orbs tightly while praying for a miracle. She was so concentrated on her task, her feet dangling as she tried to find another perch along the cliffside in vain, that she didn’t even realize someone else had approached.

Oh my. Quiana tilted her head thoughtfully as she stared upwards at the fishling, as she called them, dangling from the cliffside. What was the fishling doing all the way out here? Truly it was obvious that she was better suited for the water considering how she shivered just by being on the surface! Still, Quiana couldn’t help the laugh that left her lips at the sight of the girl hanging on for dear life. Perhaps she would have been more concerned had the poor creature been more than just a few feet above a small pool of water. Now this is truly something else. She mused as she moved forward, her hips swaying as she slowly submerged herself in the pool of crystal clear water and stood in the center where it lapped against her waist.

Oh the spirits were even laughing at her now? Pounamu felt her chest tighten in absolute terror. If she could hear spirits then surely that meant the end was near! Oh I should have never ventured out like Naia. She’s far better suited for this than I ever was! In her hysteria the girl didn’t even realize that she was mumbling to herself while she clung to the vine with all of her strength, whatever was remaining at this point that was. She could feel her fingers slipping, each of the poor digits aching as thorns dug into her flesh. ”If you’re going to take me then just do it already!” She finally called out with a cry before her fingers slipped away from the vine.

”I guess.” Quiana replied as the fishling cried out and let go of the vine. The Aishan was thoroughly amused by the spectacle at this point and simply reached out so that she could catch the girl as she tumbled backwards and into her arms. The actual impact was more than Quiana had bargained for as the girl was slightly higher up and tumbled with enough velocity to push them both backwards into the water with a splash. “Oof.” Still at least she had caught the other girl. Quiana shook her now wet dreads with a sigh before thinking of her new and unexpected companion. “You okay?

Sp-spirit!” Pounamu gasped as she quickly back peddled away from the strange creature. Have mercy! Those green soulless eyes were ready to devour her! Was this what happened when one crossed from the living world into the next? Pounamu found herself reaching to pat her sides, the welcome relief of water slowly getting her back to her senses. Her behind hurt from the impact but it was truly the ache in her hands that made her ponder her actual existence. If she was dead then why would she still feel the biting thorns in her palms? The girl’s gaze widened in surprise as she studied her hands, the fresh cuts welling with blood. “Is death supposed to be like this?” She finally managed in the softest of whispers, disbelief written clearly on her face.

Spirit? Quiana blinked in surprise before letting out a laugh. She supposed that she did look strange to the fishling! “I’m sorry but you really aren’t dead.” She finally managed after the laughter calmed down and she managed to squeeze out actual words. Already she could feel the confusion rising in the other girl and so Quiana slowly reached a hand upwards so that she could point to the cliffs where the bloody vine lingered just a few feet above their heads. She would let the other girl ponder that one.

I’m not?” Pounamu followed the direction of the finger before falling back into the water once more with a splash. She had….caught a vine that close to the ground?! Amazement and embarrassment mixed together until her cheeks were dark with a flush, exhilaration and shame both boiling in her blood. “I was almost at the top when I fell.” She explained finally as she slowly turned her gaze away from the cliff and towards the strange creature that had caught her. “I didn’t realize where the vine was in my panic. I was just hanging on for dear life…” Her voice grew softer, shyness replacing the adrenaline as she slowly started to settle back down.

Hmm, I guess if you fell from that high up then I wouldn’t blame you for freaking out.” Replied Quiana with a slight nod, her expression almost impressed as she studied the vine for a moment longer before glancing back towards the stranger. Was it a hassle that she had to help? Most definitely. Still, at least no one had died nearby since that surely would give some sort of bad vibe to her day. “If you’re feeling better then I would suggest going back to the ocean. Isn’t it safer out there for you?

Pounamu blinked in confusion. “The ocean can be dangerous but I suppose it is my natural environment.” She glanced towards the fins that were along her body and she found herself nodding. At least back in the ocean she didn’t have to worry about tumbling to the ground. Maybe a current could take her away or something dangerous could try to devour her in one bite but there was less fear about gravity in the ocean. “But I can’t…” She began with a sorrowful expression crossing her features as she peeked back towards the landwalker.

Quiana raised a brow, “Why? Don’t tell me you’re some dangerous exile because I really won’t believe it.” She joked lightly as she glanced back towards the cliffs. Her grandmother’s stories about the Extremists had taught her that any exiles were typically made of darker and tougher stuff than the child before her. Well, not perhaps a child since they seemed about the same age if the underwater races aged like the Aishans based on appearances at least. Either way she was fairly finished with sitting in the water and so Quiana started to stand again, her clothing drenched in water and still dripping as she waded back towards the sands.

Well, not that.” Admitted Pounamu sheepishly as she sat in the water, the cool feeling restoring some of her vitality as the sun had truly dried her out. As the stranger started to walk away she found herself scooting forward a bit, her movements slowing as she watched the other girl settle down near the pool of water. “My friend is missing and I think she’s on the surface.

Shame.” Quiana settled on a rock and started to twist her colorful skirts to try and get rid of the excess water. Her expression shifted as she concentrated on trying to fix the beads that had tangled up along her belt when she had fallen into the pool. “I mean the ocean is so huge, right? Why would she be up here?” She almost felt exasperated like this other girl’s silly decision to look along the surface had caused her so much trouble on a day that she finally had a chance to just relax without worry of someone tracking her down.

She always talks about finding treasures out here.” Pounamu argued with a frown before swimming closer so that she could study the other girl. “I can help with that.” She finally offered after a thoughtful moment, her hand reaching out towards the belt. Fiddling with something like beads could help calm her nerves which had honestly been on edge ever since she emerged from the ocean this morning.
