It seemed that no matter how many times she visited Belrea, Faenna was able to find something new to discover. Now that she was older and able to explore on her own, without getting into trouble for it anyway, it was easier to see what the strange world of the earthlings had to offer. Today, she had made herself comfortable and was staring at some sort of tower currently being built. The building was impressively tall for an earthling creation, and had four large wings of cloth. A handful of Geians were standing together around a table of papers and measuring sticks, too caught up in their work to notice the Aishan loitering nearby. With such a prime position, she eventually found out that the building was called a grain mill. Something that big for crushing grains?!

It wasn't often that Aurick was able to really get out on his own. Most days he was busy at the bakery or doing something for his younger siblings. Being the eldest meant that his time was monopolized from the moment he woke up and more often than not he didn't mind it. Except...lately he'd taken to snagging little snippets of time to himself here and there. It wasn't as if he loved his family any less, but Aurick did need a break.
So, with his younger siblings being tended to by extended family Aurick slipped away. He wasn't sure where to go, exactly, since it had been some years since he'd gone this far out to visit but -
"Wow, I didn't think anyone could be taller than me." Aurick's smile barely covered his awe. It was hard to miss the alkidike standing outside the mill, especially since it was his first time seeing one in person.

A few men had clumped up into the building, and pushed at the gears to get the wings high above to spin a little. The awe in her mind was echoed in her ears, though the words didn't match at all. Blinking slightly from the hypnotic sight, Faenna looked down at the surprised earthling. She found herself not craning her neck as much as usual, which brought out her own surprised coo. "Ooh, you're a big one!" She grinned brightly and turned to face him. "I actually could grow a couple more inches yet~" she stated proudly. "Do you have more growing to do, too?"

Her own surprise was echoed by Aurick whose eyes widened at her cooing a fraction of a section before he laughed. "Just a couple? I'm sure you've got more than that in you!" If she had more growing to do then that meant she was a lot younger than he'd originally thought! Day by day Aurick was being exposed to more Aishan's but it was still a sharp enough of an adjustment that it took him a bit to mentally catch up.
Slapping his stomach, the earthling simply grinned. "The only growing I've got left is around here. You'll just have to tell me what it's like when you're able to touch the top of that mill."

Faenna's grin only grew. "Well, maaaaybe a little more than a couple. Not too much though. I'm old enough to take care of myself, you know." She stood up straighter, as though that motion alone would confirm her age... Still, she liked the idea that she might sprout up a few more inches yet. Wouldn't it be fun to be taller than mama?
"You're silly. No one's that tall." She laughed lightly and turned her attention to the wings of the mill. "That thing's easy enough to climb. I bet I could touch the top of it right now if I wanted to."

"Is that so?" Yeah, so the act itself was plenty proof of her age. She may have been old enough to go out on her own, but Aurick was sure that she was the same age as his younger brothers. Somewhere out there was a parent or guardian wondering what sort of mischief their daughter was into.
"I have no doubt that you could, but how about you don't? You might catch your fingers." With his eyes casually drifting toward the mill, Aurick rolled one of his shoulders and settled into a more comfortable stance. "So, what's all the interest in the mill? Thinking of taking on an apprenticeship?"

The grin turned into a playful smirk. "I've done riskier things. That's what makes it all so fun." Faenna was definitely a girl with a heart for excitement, and climbing to see the view from the top of the mill might be a good way to wrap up her trip for the day...
An apprenticeship? "I believe Aisha's call will take me elsewhere," she mused lightly. To think, her getting an average earthling job! "No, I've.. just never seen one of these before. It seems like an awful lot for grinding up little grains. Do you earthlings eat that much?"

"I wouldn't advise it." Aurick stated pointedly. His smile may have still been there, but so was the big brother tone. "See those men way up there, near the top? I bet a few of them have blunderbuss' and it doesn't much matter what you look like; get too close and they'll pop you."
Did earthlings...? Snorting, Aurick let out another laugh. "Have you seen us? We're everywhere! Of course we do. Still, I bet it would take at least two of us to eat as much as one of your kind so it evens out."

Brow rising, her eyes rose to peer at the men working high above. If nothing else, she did know what a blunderbuss was and had no interest in being on the receiving end of the strange weapon. "Fiiine," she groused. "You must have younglings or something. You have a tone like my mothers use when they're being strict." She smirked playfully through her pout. It wasn't the same tone, but it sure was close!
Faenna's expression quickly lightened with the earthling's laugh. "There are a lot of you, yeah. I guess.. it seems like a lot of equipment for what someone could do with a mortar and pestle."

Aurick's smile just blossomed. "Nah, none of my own, just younger siblings. Was it that obvious?" He had been known to chase one or two of them out the back door when they were getting too rowdy in his kitchen. The neighbors had seen him shaking a rolling pin in his apron more times than he cared to admit.
"You're not wrong, but that's small scale. If you just needed to feed a few mouths then that wouldn't be so bad, but this mill can send their goods out all across Belrea."

Faenna laughed lightly and nodded. "Yeah, kinda obvious." She had two little sisters herself.. did she ever sound like that? Now that was something to think about. She was more likely to encourage mischief than anything else, but she did try to watch out for those two when she was around..
"Across Belrea," she murmured softly, looking back at the mill. "I guess it's easy to forget how big the world really is.." she said mostly to herself. She might have been opened up to the world now, but she had grown up on two isolated and very independent islands for most of her life.
Brow rising, she looked over to the earthling again. He seemed pretty knowledgeable. "Do you work at a mill?"

He supposed it must really be a shift, considering where she likely grew up. Aurick didn’t claim to know a lot about Aishan culture but he did know that things like mills and steam engines weren’t high on their priority list.
“Me? No way, I’m a baker.” Though, he supposed he could see why she would think that. He was certainly as burly as any of the workers passing through.
“I’m just out this way visiting family. Most of my time is spent baking break and little berry tarts.”

Faenna's eyes widened with surprise. "A baker?" She leaned in to poke a finger against one of the earthling's muscular biceps. "I know baking takes strength, but I didn't realize it could do this much. Is it because you serve the whole island like the mill does? Do your siblings bake, too?" She gasped with hope. "Do you have your own mill?"

He swatted her finger away only to flex a moment later. “Baking takes a lot more out of you than what most folks think but not this much. Exercise is just a hobby of mine; it helps with stress.” And boy did he have a lot of it these days. Still her gasp made his eyes widen and Aurick snorted. “I wish; then grain wouldn’t be so expensive. My family does own a bakery though and a farm. “

Giggling at the swat, Faenna dropped her hands back to her sides. "Just a hobby? Exercise and being strong is a fundamental part of life! Our very existence depends on it." That was something that every Aishan learned growing up. Strength was a key part of survival. She flexed her own muscles to make her point; and while not as impressive as Aurick's, she was proud of them. "You should use those muscles and build one. It better be at least as big as this one here!"
