He wasn't sure if he was just missing it all, but Bernard hadn't been taken into any weird magical battles lately and hadn't met any Senshi or Knights... it was starting to get boring. Even his human owners could see that the fat cat wasn't lazy just because of his lazy nature.

Because of that and the nicer weather, warm weather was always preferable to the cold, he had slowly been making his way around the city. It was night time and it was cool enough that he felt comfortable in all of his fur for all of the energy he was using just walking around.

It wasn't until he passed by a shop that managed to move his eyes away from the street and into the windows. The Bell Book and Candle. Interesting! Perhaps he could find something that he could read in there! Even if it wasn't the usual mysteries that he read in his spare time.

Moving around to the back, as the door appeared to be closed, he wanted to see if there was a way for him to get in. He didn't have his human form after all. He doubted they would let a kitty in just because he pawed at the door.

So he wanted to try to get in another way. He wouldn't steal anything, but if he could skim a few books, perhaps he could somehow have his humans buy them later? It was then that he spotted a cat door in the back. He studied it for a moment. It would be a tight fit... but he thought he could get through.

And so he slowly made his way inside, all sides of the door squeezing him, and it was only after a certain point that he popped out of the door and hit the floor because of the unexpected release from it. "Oh... That wasn't graceful at all." He murmured to himself as he made sure that he was all okay before he could venture deeper into the store.

Evening was always quiet at Bell Book and Candle; the occasional witchy types might come in, avoiding the lookie-loo's and dabblers during the day, but that would be it. The shop's owner would putter around straightening things before closing for the day, and that was what was going on as Pyewacket watched, one eye open lazily as he pretended to sleep. It was only after the bookshop was closed that the cat would begin his day, working in his lab in the garden or going to Mauvian HQ to see what was happening in the city on a broader scale.

The owner had barely left when he heard a thump at the shop's back door. Perking up, he jumped down from his usual perch in the cat bed installed in the shop's front bay window and went to see what had thumped. Sometimes it was raccoons or other pests slipping in through the cat flap; sometimes it was stray cats looking for a handout.

Sometimes it was something else entirely.

Peering around the corner, he saw a rather chubby black and white cat with a distinctive moustache marking on his muzzle and a star in his forehead. A visitor! Pye was delighted. He padded up to the other Mauvian, his plume of a tail held high. "Greetings, friend, and welcome to Bell Book and Candle! I am Pyewacket. How may I assist you this evening?"

When Bernard looked up after making sure that his fur was back in place, he could see another cat coming towards him. A mauvian at that! Excellent! His fur-stache curled as he smiled. "It is very nice to meet you Pyewacket! I am Bernard." He said with a small bow. "I'm sorry to intrude like this. Not too many ways a cat can get in. But if you'll indulge me, I'm looking for mystery books. More in the realms of solving mysteries than what mysteries are out there." There was a distinction and sometimes he had to be specific.

"Since these books are different from the usual ones I read, I was hoping that they would have some more unusual mysteries to be solved." He said with a nod. "It's good to see another cat such as yourself in a bookstore! Not too many seem interested!"

"It's a pleasure to meet you as well, Bernard," Pye responded. "I don't mind the intrusion at all! Much better a fellow Mauvian than a regular stray cat coming through the flap, as happens sometimes." He gave a small chuckle. "At least you can talk!"

Pye sat on his haunches and put a paw to his chin in thought. "Hmmm, mystery books, eh? I confess, a good portion of our book selection is comprised of what mysteries are out there, but I might be able to find something that would interest you.... Hmm." Tail swishing, he stood and strolled toward the small Fiction section of the bookstore.

"Oh, I love living in a book shop," he said to Bernard over his shoulder. "It's the perfect arrangement for a cat like me. Aside from the petting and treats I get, I have access to all these books, and all the gossip from the clientele. I even have my own workspace in the backyard, where I make herbal spell blends for sale here and conduct astrological studies. Ah, here we go."

The mysteries occupied a small section on a lower shelf, making it much easier for Pye to locate what he was looking for. "We have Dan Brown's book The DaVinci Code, which is a bestseller and quite fascinating in its own way, but I think we have better mysteries… Ah yes, Foucault's Pendulum by Umberto Eco. It's quite a good book, and quite the mystery! There's also another Eco mystery, The Name of the Rose, which has a medieval monk akin to Sherlock Holmes investigating murders at a monastery."

Pye pointed out the books, then sat again. "Might any of those tickle your fancy, Bernard?"

Bernard could understand wanting to live in a bookshop. It did sound quite interesting. However he was quite content with where he lived. Meals whenever he wanted them, his soap operas at all times of day, his very own mystery (and romance) library at his home and the ability to come and go whenever he pleased without having to deal with too many others.

Everyone had their idea of a perfect home.

His ears perked up at the description of the last book. "The Name of the Rose sounds like it would be right up my alley. Though I would like to try Foucault's Pendulum as well." He said, wandering over to the shelf where Pye had situated himself. "I really appreciate you indulging me in this. It's so nice to talk to another Mauvian and just have a conversation. I know we're out there, but I could swear I'm the only one around sometimes!" He said with a chuckle. "Now that I know you are here however, I will stop by much more often. We can even try some tea and snacks together."
