Quote:
Summer Storms (5) : There have been plenty of thunderstorms this summer, and everyone is blaming the weather for the strangeness of their electronics--or, bored kids out of school. It’s not uncommon to get phone calls from impossible numbers--strings of letters and numbers, and a blank caller ID. It’s hard to make out any sounds; it sounds like static, and a broken up voice in a language you can’t make out. There is no way to call the number back; it says the line is disconnected. Sometimes, text messages come through, in foreign symbols. The messages always disappear within a few seconds, and there’s no way to reply. People have even had video chats, but the image is always staticky and it’s impossible to make out any details except for a silhouette, and the same strange, foreign language. The city is hoping to have this issue fixed soon, but in the meantime they are asking for patience.

Paracelsian had briefly powered down to try and be a bit stealthier while doing his nefarious deed, but his cell phone went off. That was bad enough for his stealth mission, but when he checked his phone on impulse, what he saw flipped his reality over. The caller ID was a range of symbols, letters, and numbers; corrupted data, probably. When he checked the message that was left, his jaw nearly hit the floor. The message was like someone speaking gibberish over a fax machine.

To say the least, he wasn't in a great mental state right now, and this bizarre message only spiked his paranoia. He powered back up, straining his senses to see if there was anyone else in the area he could share this happening with. There was a fellow Chaos agent, fortunately, and he made a beeline for that aura to compare notes.

To say that Geo had been neglecting his duties was an understatement. He had been trying to hide more from the General that he had been put under and he would have to answer to them soon. Too soon unfortunately. He would probably have to meet with them once more before he was finally able to purify.

So while he was hanging about, trying to see if there would be any Order auras out and about and while he was doing so he was browsing on his phone. Unfortunately he kept getting hit with random texts messages full of gibberish and the one voice message he had gotten was practically impossible to make out.

Whatever was causing them was starting to annoy him and he had thought about leaving for the night, even if that meant missing someone that he could talk to.

Just when he decided to however, he had the unfortunate luck of feeling a fellow Captain's aura heading straight toward him and he sighed. He really did not want to talk to another Agent right now, but he couldn't leave, it would be too suspicious and he would be followed. So he waited for the other to come to see what was going on.

Any other time, Paracelsian would have done a perfectly mundane status check up on this other Captain. He would have asked what he'd been up to, if he'd gathered any energy, dealt with any Lieutenants. However, this was not any other time. He was pressed hard in panic, intensely paranoid that his every move was being watched, and unsure of where he was going to be at the end of the hour, let alone the night.

"Excuse me," he called out to his fellow Captain (and, unknowingly, his fellow Captain in a bind). "Can you listen to this? I'm getting strange calls on my civilian phone, and I don't know why. I suspect that I'm being... monitored, for whatever reason." Maybe that was too much to give away, but it delivered the purpose of the hailing clearly. He already had his phone out and was calling up the messages.

Geo raised an eyebrow. It appeared that this... doctor-looking Agent appeared to have the same phone problem that he was. Interesting. "If you're talking about the weird messages, I'm getting them too." He said, and when the other was close enough, he held out his phone to show the other Captain what was going on.

It hadn't occurred to him that he was being monitored. Magical shenanigans appeared to be stronger during certain festivals and holidays. And whatever this was could be purely human. He wouldn't be surprised if there was a way to attack phones. "I can't say if we are being monitored, I would go to being hacked first." He said with a grimace to the other. It wasn't a good option. Possibly even worse than being monitored.

"Why do you believe you would be monitored? Is it because we're in the Negaverse?" This is why he kept his Negaverse life and the phone separate. He did not want them getting into his personal life.

The fact that he wasn't the only one receiving the glitchy messages was a small relief for Paracelsian. He exhaled heavily, though the tension didn't quite leave his body. "Hacking, right... I guess a civilian hacker would get up to mischief at this time..." Some people just wanted to make trouble and creep people out. Perhaps this was one of those people in action.

The inquiry about being monitored made his nerves go up a few notches yet again. "Ah, no, I suppose that alone wouldn't be a reason for being monitored. I suppose my reasons are more... specific. It's not like I expected the Negaverse to crack into my personal life, but as things are... well, I know there are eyes in places you wouldn't suspect." He was very nearly one of those eyes himself.

Geo nodded. And with the other's panic dying down, it meant that this encounter wouldn't last much longer. As much as Geo would have liked to try and make connections to see who he could help over to the other side, he had to "put on his own oxygen mask first" as they say. "Yeah, that makes sense. You never know what the Negaverse is up to. I wouldn't be surprised if they had eyes everywhere or something." Though he was doubtful of it. If they did they would know a lot more of the Order faction than they did.

And perhaps their personal files wouldn't be so secret.

However, he didn't know this Agent's name. "I'm Geocronite. I don't believe we've ever met." He said looking at the other Captain.

"I suppose you're right. I do access the database for research, but I feel like there's certain aspects that simply... aren't there." Not that he would ever snoop around in a General-Sovereign's profile, but some questions floated around here and there that he wished he could ask without getting his head taken off.

"Paracelsian. Pleased to meet you," he responded to the greeting. "And..." 'Goodbye' lingered on the tip of his tongue, but he couldn't just leave it like that. "Well, where were you planning on going next? I have something I must attend to, but if there's anywhere specific you were headed, I wouldn't mind meeting up again later."

Paracelsian. He would have to remember that. At least in case he purified and retained his powered memories. It would be of no use if he remembered only his civilian ones.

He put away his phone. There was no use hanging around here anymore. The Captain was going to keep an eye on him now. "Well, I had been trying to find some civilians to drain energy from, but they don't appear to be that popular tonight. So I think I'm going to head back to my home." He did not say cabin, it would be too much of a clue. "Good to meet you Paracelsian. I'll make sure to remember your name. We can meet up sometime later if you want though and see if anything else happened with the messages."

"Ah, lucky. As I said, I still have things to do or I'd go right home too." Paracelsian paused, reflexively watching Geocronite's every move. "With any luck, hopefully we can meet up later. I like to compare notes where I can, but I suppose it's a relief to know that it's not likely I'm being tracked... through this method, anyway." Maybe that was giving away too much. It was a delicate dance.

"It's probably best if we both get moving. I'll keep an ear out for you from hereon out." With a nod-bow, Paracelsian waved goodbye and made his way to his next frantic stop.
