Quote: The Calling (7) : A beautiful melody drift on the air from somewhere far away. The vocals are in a language you don’t quite recognize, but feel somehow familiar to you. Something about the song calls to you, but no matter where you go, the song seems to sound the same distance away. The longer it goes on, the more emotional the song becomes--and the more emotional you become. Something about the song is possessive and consuming, like it’s all you can think of. Something resonates in you as the song crescendos, and the feeling is at its strongest--be they good, bad, anything, but suddenly the song fades, and there’s only an emptiness inside of you. The feeling of loss is strong, and can leave someone feeling emotionally numb. Someone out there was calling to you, and you couldn’t find them. The Star Festival had made him patrol more often than he usually would have around the area. He wasn't sure if the Negaverse would be attracted to such a thing, but for some reason festivals and holidays appeared to have strange things happen during the time that they were around. He didn't want to take any chances that the Negaverse was attempting to launch an attack with no warning like the Farnsworth building battle. He at least didn't want to be as late as he had been that time. As he was patrolling through the park, mostly in the dark areas between the trees as he knew his outfit looked a bit ridiculous to normal humans, he thought he heard some sort of beautiful melody. His ears had immediately drawn his attention to it and he tried to listen, seeing if he could understand the music... But on the edge he felt the aura of Chaos nearby. Not enough for a full fledged attack, but something definitely strange was going on. But the melody had him stopped in place and he tried to fight the urge to listen or going after the aura to see what was going on.

She didn't know what drew her to the noise. Nembus had been taking a quiet walk as a senshi, gathering a few items for herself in a form that was harder to trace. A few pieces of clothing here and there, a snack that had been left in a bag next to a dumpster that was perfectly good there, an ice cream cone from an ice cream chain, which she didn't feel too bad about because it was just a chain shop, when the sounds of the song began to distract her. It sounded distant and familiar, and Nembus wanted to find out more. She followed where she thought it was coming from, only to find herself having to continue to walk in that direction without end; there was no sign of where the music was coming from, but it sounded ever-present. She shivered. Was it a trick? In the distance, she spotted one of the knights -- a squire, she guessed, from his outfit -- and froze in place, perhaps hoping he wouldn't see her or perhaps would simply leave her alone.

It was the hair that stood out to Sumner first. While colored hair wasn't rare, her's was quite bright, and it wasn't until he took a moment that he realized that she was standing there, almost like she had been surprised to run into him. She didn't appear to be dangerous at the moment, but that could change. He needed to keep his guard up. The melody was making it hard to though, as though it was attempting to drown out all other noise. He shook his head, trying to get it out. Instead he decided to talk to the Senshi. He wouldn't bother asking her if she had been singing, he could tell from where she was now that her mouth wasn't moving, so unless her magic was this song that didn't need to be sung, then it wasn't her. He got closer to her. "I hope you aren't up to any shenanigans." He said with a small smile. Might as well check to see if she was doing anything. If she wasn't, then perhaps they could peacefully part ways tonight without having to throw fists at each other. Or at least he would throw them, he had no idea what her magic was like.

The song continued, and it started to pull at her heartstrings. She still didn't know where it was coming from, but she sniffled to hold back the urge to cry. She didn't need to do that, especially in front of some anonymous White Moon squire she had never seen in her life. She shivered. Why was he coming closer? Did he intend to attack her? She could never tell if those of the other side would have a peaceful approach or if they would immediately start swinging. She couldn't blame them for the second, but she oft just ran away when they did-- "Ah," no, he wasn't there to attack. At least for now. At least until he determined the persistent noise was somehow her fault. "No, the music isn't me. I'm just," she shifted, setting down the few items of clothing she was holding to further emphasize she was not a threat, "listening to the music, same as you. Do you know where this is coming from?" Maybe it made more sense to him. Why did it sound equidistant away at all times? Why was it so sad? She sniffled. "Is this some Order Lament?"

The song was really starting to effect him and he had no idea why. He was starting to feel tears at in his eyes and made sure to wipe them away before they fell, but the melody continued. He shook his head at her question. "No... not that I know of at least. I think Senshi magic only has a limited time, so for it to go on for so long..." Why wouldn't it stop? It was starting to annoy him. Still, he didn't believe the Senshi was a threat anymore. "Ugh, this is making me have sad feelings." He said, giving her a sad-looking smile. "Seems we're in the same boat then and have no idea what could be causing this." Which was worse in his opinion. Now they had nothing to blame this on and nothing that they could confront to make it stop.

"Unfortunately," she murmured, crossing her arms as a way of giving herself comfort. If it was a senshi-source, perhaps she could get them to knock it off. Why was it so sad?It seemed to be impacting him just as badly as it was impacting her. She bounced in place in an attempt to fight off the amplification of the feelings she felt almost every day of her life. Sadness. Emptiness. Mourning a life she didn't know and a life she would never have. Perhaps the song resonated with her. She could imagine being in the sound; she could imagine being in it herself with the familiarity it held. "Maybe someone left their radio on," but it was hopeless. She sniffled again. If they left their radio on, they had also left their speakers in every tree.

Sumner couldn't help but let out a laugh at her suggestion. Not because it was funny, but just the entire situation was so... weird. "I... I don't think it's a radio." He said through tears that were now freely falling down his face. He wasn't afraid to show emotion, but the fact that this song impacted him so much was scary to say the least. And he didn't have any reason that he could think of to be sad about. Annoyed, sure. But sad? It was just weird and a bit concerning. But just as it seemed to at it's peak, it appeared to be fading away, and Sumner felt as though he could finally hear something else besides the song. He let out a sigh and couldn't help but take a seat on the ground. For some reason it felt as though all of his energy had been drained right out of him. Whether it was the Senshi's doing or not, he was suddenly tired. "That... that took a lot out of me." He looked at her. "You don't seem to be causing any trouble, so we don't have any reason to fight."

When the song reached its peak, it felt like the sadness was going to tear her in two. She found herself on her knees, burying her face in her hands before he even sat down nearby. For him, it felt like the energy had been sucked out of him. For Nembus, nothing could have rung more true than the deep loneliness and emptiness she suddenly felt inside. She had nothing. She had no one. It had all been taken from her, and someone might have been calling out to her, but she would never hear them. She hadn't a chance to recognize them. Were her parents looking for her, or was she just assumed to be yet another missing person in this city? Were her old friends looking for her? Did she have any friends? Were her siblings looking for her? Did she have any siblings, or was she the only one like that one dream had told her? Who was calling for her? Was it Sedna? Was it someone she had lost somewhere between now and then that she would never have a chance to reach out to? She was sobbing, and the only response she managed was a quiet murmur of, "Won't fight you, squire."

Sumner was surprised to see the Senshi crying so hard. He wondered if she was still hearing the song. He wasn't, but he couldn't be sure that it wouldn't affect others different. He stood up and for a moment he reached out his hand, wondering if he should try to comfort her. But he held back and moved his hand back to where it was supposed to be at his side. She was a stranger to him, and this could still all be an act. It was better to be safe than to be sorry, as much as he felt for her. He thought for a moment what to say. He didn't need to stay hanging around here with her. At least not this time. "I got it. I'll leave you alone. But if you're uh, still feeling the same next time. I can try and stay longer and listen to you, all right?" He said, before taking a step, then two back, and then finally turning and walking away, feeling bad about doing so, but he couldn't let feelings get in the way when it came to this magical war. 'Seiana_ZI" Fin from me, thank you for the rp!

The squire excused himself, and Nembus wasn't expecting any different. Why should she? She didn't know him. He had no reason to trust her. She had no reason to trust him. Why would either of them trust each other? Why was she letting herself cry in front of him? Why had that sound torn her so deeply? She stayed there and cried, not even managing much of a, "Bye," as she let herself feel the emotions and tried her best to get over them. She'd leave. Eventually.
