Quote: It was already late in the evening but the merchant seemed unfazed by the passing of time. He sat, poised and elegant, watching the world around him. He didn’t seem bored but he sat, fingers laced atop the table; below it, he kept his toe tapping to some silent tune in his head. He was tall, by human standards, though while sitting down he didn’t seem particularly threatening. If you didn’t look at his face.
He had graceful features--sharp and refined. His chin and nose tapered to a point, giving him an air of sophistication, but that, combined with his slitted eyes and pointed teeth, there was something undeniably predatory about him. He watched with a hungry gaze and a mischievous, nearly sinister smile. His ears were pointed and were prominent despite being tucked behind his vibrant, multi-colored hair. The most intrusive feature that indicated there was something not human about him were the curling horns protruding from his temples and the oil-slick black scales that brushed his cheeks and forehead. He was well dressed, in a fashion obviously otherworldly, and seemed to enjoy dressing himself up in glistening gemstones.
His tables were somehow both simple and overwhelming; each table was draped with a dark purple tablecloth, all with extravagant embroidery in different designs. Scattered neatly atop the tables were an array of items that seemed to carry some magical weight to them.
He did not seem intimidated in the slightest and, upon noticing that the barrier surrounding him rippled to allow his visitor to pass, he smiled.
He did not rise to meet them nor adjust his position in the slightest. He followed them with his fierce eyes and greeted, in a silky voice, “Welcome.” To say that Caer was excited to meet the person behind the bubble, and to deliver to him the wisp that she had found with Hyperborea, was to very much minimize the situation.
Caer was practically vibrating as they arrived, sliding off Cerynitis's back and all but bounding for where she had seen the sign a few nights previous. There had been no reason to hesitate, after all, upon finding the little lights, and as she walked into the barrier, she gasped to find it gave way, and there was, indeed, someone on the other side.
"Oh, hello," she said, blinking in surprise. Somehow, despite knowing in theory that someone would be there, since someone had to have posted it and set up the barrier, and knowing that they probably weren't human....it still startled her a bit how much the man in front fo her was clearly, markedly not of this world. Curling horns, scales, and those elfin ears--yes, this was definitely an alien.
How amazing.
When he greeted her, she held up the wisp in its mason jar home. "I assume you're the one who posted the sign? We--that is, Hyperborea and I--found a couple of them and thought we'd bring them by."
Obviously. He could see that.
"Anyway! The sign said you would trade for them, and we'd definitely like to make a trade!"

Hyperborea dispelled Cerynitis after giving her a pet and thanks for the lift. As she followed Caer Sidi through the bubble. The transcended knight of the Cosmos was more than a little surprised at who they found waiting on the other side of the barrier.
"Hang on I know you! I traded you for a golden deer statue last year." The young knight exclaimed as she saw the admittedly handsome alien merchant. She couldn't believe after all this the alien visitor had been the same strange trader from last year. She wondered what all the theatrical production this year had been about.
Hyperborea nodded along as Caer Sidi explained their propose there. When Caer Sidi got to the end and proposed a trade deal Hyperborea held up a hand to stop her before she just gave away the strange will-of-the-wisp like creatures. "Yes we'd like to make a trade however if you don't mind my asking. What are these things and why do you want them? What are you going to do with them." She found it strange that the same unexplained alien would visit Earth twice and that this time he would have a very specific price for his wares.

“Oh!” he greeted pleasantly. “New faces and old! How wonderful,” he smiled. He looked eager to have his exchange, but didn’t try to snatch the wisp from Caer. No, he could be patient. “They’re my treasures,” he explained to Hyperborea. They are not supposed to be separated. But,” he sighed dramatically, “The atmosphere was a bit volatile on my way in, so I didn’t have the safe landing I was looking forward to. I’m afraid, when I landed, I broke quite a few things. But those wisps are very important to me and I’d like to get them home and back in one piece as quickly as possible. Come, come.” He gestured to his table. “You’re more than welcome to look at anything you like. Although, I’ve gotten very good at giving suggestions. For example,” he leaned back thoughtfully and tapped his finger on his chin as he looked at the two Cosmos Knights. “Well. You look like you’ve crawled out of a fairy tale,” he mused when his eyes had settled on Caer. He moved a few things around and then pulled out a hand-sized stained glass image with a golden chain fastened to the top to hang it. When he held it up and the light caught it, the image seemed to move, as if it were some natural landscape. The image depicted a waterfall in the forest, and clouds slowly drifting in the sky. Two forest creatures could be seen crazing--and the lead and glass seemed to move with them as they moved. Sometimes, the glass would just change tint, and sometimes the image would actually change, and even the merchant seemed distracted looking at it for a second before he laid it out for her to inspect. “And you?” he prompted to Hyperborea. “Would you like another deer?” he asked, perhaps a bit playfully. “Come, bring me your wisps. You know I’m good for a trade. Let me get them safely where they belong while we negotiate.”

Caer paused when Hype put her hand up, and forced herself not to pout or frown. It was undignified, and her eagerness was already unbefitting. This was, in essence, a negotiation, and even though she was excited for the magical aspects of it, that didn't mean that she had to act like a complete fool.
Still, her excitement was more than present. She wasn't exactly subtle, and so while she took a breath and waited for the merchant's answer to Hyperborea's question, it was with a certain eager edge.
An eager edge that bubbled over when he held yup the beautiful stained glass piece, lovely enough to make her gasp with wanting. Caer loved beautiful things, that was certain, and a magical piece of stained glass...she glanced down at her little suncatcher, wrapped around her wrist. Yes, this was exactly the sort of thing she longed for.
"You're right," she agreed, "you are good at suggestions." She flashed Hyperobrea a slightly guilty smile for her eagerness, but stepped forward, unscrewing the top of the mason jar--though leaving the lid in place--and offering the wisp to the merchant. "Here, put it wherever it goes. I'll gladly trade you this for that beautiful stained glass piece. I don't think I'd ever find its like, anywhere else."
Practically stating the obvious, but Caer was sure the man well and knew exactly what sort of things he had.

Hyperborea listen to the mans explanation nodding along. It was vague but it was mostly satisfactory. Still there was one thing that bothered her. "Are they dangerous?" The transcended knight of the cosmos thought back to all the will-of-the-wisps they had left behind suddenly regretting not being more thorough.
However she figured that if those wisps came from the strange alien merchant then it would be best to return them to him, plus he did have some amazing wares. In fact his wares were almost too good she wondered how exactly he got these fine goods. They almost seemed like they came from wonders and planets of senshi and knights, but how was that possible. Could he be a grave digger picking through the bones of fallen wonders and planets before their guardians reawakened. But even then she was fairly certain at least wonders and probably planets were guarded against unwelcome intruders like that. Could he have traded for the items before the fall of the Silver Millennium, if so just how old was this merchant.
Hyperborea looked over the stained glass piece. "That is gorgeous, it suits you." Hyperborea said to the younger knight. She was glad the merchant had something Caer really liked. She laughed at the merchant's tease. "You have more deer?" She asked feigning incredulity. "Very well show me what you got." She said setting her own jar down.

The merchant was eager to exchange the wisp, and when Caer offered hers, he quickly scooped it out of the jar and into the chalice. “Dangerous? In a sense, yes. They’re not meant to be on their own. The unnatural state of them being broken up like this can make them a bit, ah, problematic. The faster they’re back together, the safer everything will be.” He flashed Caer a grateful smile. “I’m glad you like it. I’m sure it’ll be in better hands with you than me. Honestly, I’m surprised I haven’t broken it already. But,” he drew the word out and leaned back in his chair, seeming thoughtful. He tapped his finger on his chin as he looked at Hyperborea, contemplating what he wanted to find for her. “Oh! I’ve got it. It’s a bit different from the last one, if I recall. Just a moment.” He reached under the table, digging around for a moment. He withdrew a few general things--blankets, a few boxes, and then, finally, a pearly white, iridescent deer. It was kneeling, but its head was held up proud, and it had great antlers stretched over it. He gave it a quick inspection, making sure it was still undamaged, and set it down on the table in presentation. “Cute, yes?” he suggested, and seemed more delighted with it when he ran his finger down the back of it as if flipping an invisible switch. “Good for chasing away the dark,” he added--and little white flowers, star-like in shape, began to blossom and glow on the deer’s antlers. It wasn’t enough to light a room, but it was a gentle, soft light. It was calming--peaceful. “Easy to turn on and off, and you don’t have to worry about it catching fire. I accidentally left it on for a few years, once.”

Caer cradled the beautiful piece in her hands, watching the scene move and shift before her eyes; she would have to find somewhere special to put it, away from prying eyes. Perhaps on her Wonder? Her dorm on the DCU campus certainly wouldn't do, too many people were constantly coming in and out.
Ah well. A question for another time, since for now, she just had to wait and see what the merchant had for Hyperborea.
"Thank you," she said. "I'll treasure it." It was true and honest; she absolutely would.
When she saw the piece he produced for Hyperborea, though, she was at first intrigued--and then she gasped.
"Oh," her voice was soft, and then she covered her mouth--this wasn't for her; it was Hype's choice to accept the gift or not. So she waited, on tenterhooks, to see if the older woman would accept.

Hypeborea frown, so they were dangerous after all. Well that will teach her to judge books by there covers. She would have to go back at some point and make sure the wisps weren't hurting anybody.
Hyperborea stared at the pearly white deer statue. It was a cute little thing but when the merchant switched it on Hyperborea let out a delighted gasp. the blooming star flowers were beautiful and calming. She loved it.
"That is wonderful! I'll take it." She said handing over her own wisp and collecting her deer. "Thank you Merchant, as always your products are incredible." She said as she turned to leave with Caer. This had been a good night, she had gotten alot of answers to her questions and she and Caer had received quiet nice prizes for their efforts.
