Jhin hated having to escort merchants all the way to Oba. It was a rare journey for the man who often opted for missions within and around the forest, closer to Sauti but there were times when he had no other choice in the matter. This journey had been one such situation where a fellow ranger had taken ill and Jhin was volunteered to take their place. The kind hearted man hadn’t the ability to say no and so here he was flying above a caravan on his kinfa, Aelle. It was easier to spot any potential dangers from above and he enjoyed the feeling of the wind against his face. Up here Jhin truly could enjoy freedom and he grinned happily with every twist and turn of his mount as they swerved through the air. It was not unusual for him to venture away while the caravan was taking a break and eventually Jhin found himself landing in a clearing with Aelle.

Verosh had been traveling towards Sauti from Jahaur. His father had requested that he bring some special herbs and spices home for his family and the hybrid had agreed. Ever since his father’s bad leg had gotten worse, limiting his travels, Verosh had made certain to take care of such things. It was not as if the world were in dire danger so he felt more at ease roaming away from Jahaur for small periods of time while his mother stayed by his father’s side in the jungle. Normally the trip was quiet as he kept to himself and ventured further away from the common roads taken by merchants and the like. Today, however, it seemed that fate was not going to be so kind as Verosh found an earthling landing down in the very clearing that he had been resting in.

“Oh?” Jhin blinked as he realized that he was not quite as alone as he had thought. “I’m sorry!” The wind earthling called out as he took a few more steps forward, concern written on his brow as he made certain Aelle hadn’t blown anything away with her descent. She was a rather large kinfa and it often seemed as if her wings were constantly knocking things aside. Had he nearly landed on the other man? The other much taller man that is. Jhin blinked as he continued approaching, the height difference between the two becoming more apparent as he got closer.

Aisha grant me patience. Verosh was not against earthlings but more so loath to just waste time with strangers and idle chatter. Still, he had nowhere else to run since this area had become his temporary camp for the evening and it would be a waste to try and relocate. “It’s no problem. If you’re looking to refresh then there’s a stream cutting through right ahead.” Verosh gestured towards where the water shimmered in the sunlight. He had already taken the time to refill his flask and now a small fire was cooking his recent hunt, plenty for dinner if not more than enough.

“Thank you.” Jhin gave a nod as he studied the other man. He was definitely a hybrid and by the markings a mix of someone from Sauti and an Alkidike. Definitely an intimidating combo. Jhin warily thought of his bow strapped against his back. Perhaps if he was still one Aelle he could try to get a few shots in against the man should he turn out to be trouble, but it seemed that things were fine. If anything Jhin felt somehow like he had intruded upon this man’s peaceful afternoon and a guilty shame decorated his cheeks. “I’ll just be taking a moment to rest up before moving on.” He managed as he walked past so that he could approach the stream of water.

“Fair enough.” Verosh nodded as the wind earthling moved past and resumed tending to his fire. The meat was cooking well and the spices he had added to his meal made it smell even more enticing, something he realized with almost a guilty conscience as he studied the earthling. So far the man hadn’t bothered him and even seemed intent upon leaving him be for the most part. If anything that actually impressed Verosh considering all of the others who would have bothered him for a meal. “Are you traveling alone?” He began suddenly before considering his words, “I mean I have enough for another if you need something to eat as well.”

Jhin blinked in surprise and froze by the stream, his flask hovering above the waters. “Excuse me?” He managed before filling up his flask and glancing back towards the hybrid. Had he just invited him to eat with him? Was he truly some sort of friendly stranger?

“Well it would be a waste to let the meat go. I can’t preserve it since I’m traveling.” Verosh gave a shrug of his shoulders because honestly if the earthling wanted to continue along then that would not bother him at all. If anything it was more surprising that he actually felt pressured to offer the other man some food because that would mean actually spending time together to eat and what not.

Was it a trap or was the stranger simply being nice? Jhin hesitated a moment before letting out a soft sigh. At this point in the game he was simply too tired to care. Traveling with the caravan had worn him down and since they were already camped for the night with other rangers guarding….well why not? “You have a point.” He finally replied with a nod before splashing cool water against his face and slowly walking over towards the other man.

“I would think so.” Quipped back Verosh as he gestured towards the meal. “It’s not as if I could decide to hunt something smaller for one out here.” The wilderness was not a shopping market and he had been fortunate enough to find one creature to track down in these savannahs. There were simply too many holes and too many scared creatures out here. They enjoyed hiding way too much!

An actual chuckle left Jhin’s lips. “Fair enough. Thank you for offering to share.” He gave a nod towards the stranger before settling down on the ground. After an awkward moment of silence, of just watching the crackling flames and the roasting meat, Jhin eventually opened his satchel and started digging through his own supplies. He truly had nothing? Well they were supposed to get to the city before tonight but bandits had delayed them already….the caravan had enough for their own but Jhin didn’t plan on dealing with the merchants more than necessary. He had just planned on foraging but this...this was better.

Verosh simply gave a nod as he watched the earthling warily. Why was he digging through his satchel? The disappointed look on the other man’s face gave him pause and he found himself shaking his head. “It’s fine. I am not looking for anything in return.” He simply just hated wasting anything in nature, including the gift of life from the animal he had slain. The extra could feed scavengers as was his original intention but why ignore another in need when they could share?

“Alright, if you say so.” Jhin left his bag to the side and looked around them. It was a fairly open savannah so at least he could call for Aelle if necessary. Had being a ranger made him so wary of others? Before he would have easily settled down next to the other man regardless of his hybrid traits. “I’m Jhin.” He finally stated with a small smile. Time to at least try, right?

“Achashverosh.” Verosh managed with a nod of his head, “If that’s too complex then Ash is fine.” He kept to his earthling name while leaving his Alkidike nickname alone since he reserved that for those close to him in Jahaur. If anything he wondered why his father had allowed his mother to pick such a name for them, a tribal warrior from some history long ago. Then again it was actually no surprise considering how much influence his mother held over them both. Regardless, he wore it with pride for the most part since it was a strong name with good intentions.

“Ash it is then.” Jhin admitted with a nod. “It’s nice to meet you. Do you usually live around the edges of Sauti or are you traveling as well?” He managed to ask as he pondered everything. That was not a typical name to hear in Sauti so the Alkidike parent surely had some strong influence at least over his naming. Wouldn’t they rather be in Jahaur? At least that was what he believed based on the stories he had heard about the Alkidike and from his own personal experience with a warrior long ago.
