Quote: Return of the Merchant (10) : Investigation for the curious meteor impact may yield few results for the civilian scientists of Destiny City--but they don’t have the keen eye and aura sensing ability of their local powered warriors. Cloaked by a mysterious device that emits a unique energy signature, the impact site of the meteor is hidden inside a strange, watery bubble that spans easily a hundred feet in all directions around it. This strange shield seems to reflect light, making it appear as though there is nothing inside--but, if you look for long enough, you can make out shapes and movement. You cannot pass through the barrier, nor can sounds or light. If you attempt to walk through it, you simply pass through the other side, as if you’d walked in a straight line. That might be peculiar on its own--except, there’s a sign posted where the energy signature is strongest. Painted in fancy, iridescent ink, elegantly scrawled, the sign reads ‘Temporarily Closed for Business.’ Beneath that is a painting of a wispy, floating little orb. Text below the picture reads, ‘WANTED. Will reward handsomely.’ The shop may be closed for tonight, but tomorrow is a different story. It might be worth comping back if you can find one of those wisps. One week after his 21st birthday, Mourite found himself out in the world - not having to sneak out these days due to living on campus at DCU, thank Metallia for scholarships - at the start of the yearly meteor shower. He'd found one of his normal haunts to watch the sparks of stars shoot across the sky. He'd started wishing on the first night of shooting stars two years ago, and still... he felt that pull. He felt that calling.
No wonder he'd picked up an astrophysics degree with a minor in astronomy.
He hadn't expect the whole city to shake with the impact of one of those falling stars, though. The whole of his department was in an uproar yesterday about the whole thing, but no one could see anything wrong with the supposed impact crater. Not even a crater. So Mourite decided to go out in a more powered capacity. Besides, it was on his patrol route for energy gathering and general Negaverse work, so he might as well take a look.
He crossed his arms in front of the water dome bubble thing, confused. The hell was this? It wasn't really order, it wasn't really chaos it just.
Was. From space. That normal civilians couldn't see. Or touch. Or sense.

Dinara’s nose itched, and honestly she wasn’t supposed to be on a patrol today. She still hadn’t decided on if she was going to tell her siblings...or rather...when. Because she wanted them to know. She didn’t want to lose Leander, that was for sure. She had heard about the meteor and had thought it might be a neat idea to just go and check it out...it...was something to do at least.
As she moved towards the area, she felt the slight chill of a chaos signature and paused, gloved hand still rubbing her nose. Huh. Maybe it was someone she knew? Someone she could chat with at least...maybe they could find the meteor together. That might be fun.
As the page drew nearer, she saw two things that utterly confused her, and one of those things shook her to her very core...of course...it. It wasn’t the strange dome...though that was very out of place and...weird.
No. It was Kanan. Or...whatever his name really was.
Of all the people…
“...What are you doing here?”

He felt the order signature as a ripple down his back, followed by a lick of heat at her voice. Mourite turned, maroon eyes wide and mouth parted. Now... there was someone he'd never expected to see again. Stars how long had it been? At least two years or so? Maybe longer.
Two years had done wonders to the page. Perhaps not in rank or power, but just in... her beauty.
"Dinara..." he breathed, utterly struck by her in the moment. Did she look different? Not really, all things considered. But there was just something...
Maybe it was the fact that Mourite was a little taller now, or just had matured some. Maybe it was the embodiment of stars that was Dinara of Cosmos. Maybe it was just... the time apart.
Mourite turned, composing himself some and waved. "Come to see what rocked Destiny City?" he said, jesturing with a thin, long fingered hand towards the bubble. He himself wasn't so different. A few inches taller, and his hair had taken on a mind of its own. Two locks framed his face down to his collar bones now, the back short and spikey. The padawan braid was gone, and his face was sharper, less baby faced. So was the persona of Kanan, to be honest.
Not that she needed to know that, just yet.

She had grown, not just taller, but a little wiser, and a little more wary. Dinara’s eyes narrowed. “Ah. You still remember me then...that’s cool. You know...Kanan, or whatever your real name is since nobody in the Negaverse has ever heard of a Kanan...it’s kind of rude to take out a girl’s starseed and then run off without even a goodbye. That hurt, I hope you know.”
She crossed her arms over her chest, moving a few steps closer, her eyes slowly taking him in. ...He looked better than she remembered. His hair was lovely like that and he looked older.
But...obviously. They were both older. “Doesn’t something rock Destiny City like every other week? This...is a strange thing though, I’ll give it that. What...is it?”
Dinara hesitated and crossed a little closer. “And who are you, really? I think I have a right to know, lieutenant whatever your name is.”

He smirked at her, flashing white teeth. Well well, the little starlight had asked around about him? Curious. Mourite chuckled, raising his arms in an open gesture. "You caught me. My name is not, and has never been, Kanan," he said, taking slight bow. "Lieutenant Mourite, at your service." He couldn't rightly keep that from her now that he'd caught him in the lie.
He turned back to the bubble. "Some sort of hole in space? Civilians can't see it or interact with it, and it doesn't feel like... anything. Not Chaos, not Order. It's just... there. Being weird." Mourite crossed his arms, thinking.
He stepped closer to it, glancing back at her only briefly to make she she wasn't trying to stardust him to death, and inspected the bubble. There was definately something... moving inside it, but he couldn't determine what. He'd have to enter it to see better.
"So I can sort of see things moving inside, but can't get a really image. Wanna try entering into it and see what happens?" he said, flashing another cocky grin. He wondered if she was teaseable, or if her years in the war had wizened her up enough to be incredibly wary of him. If it had, he wouldn't blame her at all.

Honestly, Dinara had hoped fiercely that he would deny it. Hoped that he would at the very least...apologize for deceiving her. For lying to her...about…
What else did he lie about? God. That was a horrible thought indeed. The page scoffed and was about to say more on the subject. To scold him. To rant and hit him and…something.
But then the whole thing was glossed over so quickly it seemed like it didn’t matter at all. Like she didn’t matter. Like their whole history just didn’t matter.
Dinara stared at him for a moment and then fixed her face into what she hoped was a sneer, and was something that wasn’t...a look of utter devastation like she felt she was wearing. “Of course. I’ll wait here. Do you need a push in, Mourite? I’m more than happy to provide one. And at no charge. Because that’s the kind of a nice girl I am.”
She glared at him and gave a shove, pushing right at the small of his back, hoping that whatever the bubble was swallowed him. Or electrocuted him. Or just. Bounced him like a jello mountain.

The glare caught him off guard so much he didn't even expect the shove. He stumbled into the bubble. Except he didn't. Well he was certain he'd made contact with the bubble but. He was quite suddenly on the other side of it. With a sign.
The hell was that?! What did I do? How did I piss her off in 30 seconds of talking!? he wondered, staring back at the bubble. What the hell woman! You couldn't just change your tone that fast! It had been several years! Mourite huffed and strode back into the bubble.
"What the hell was that for!? I know it's been a few years, and yes I know I lied about my actual powered name, but you know now!" he ranted at her, hands moving in the air in his frustration. He buried his fingers in his hair and let out a breath. Calming breaths, Mourite, calming breaths. Remember what your therapist talks about.
"I should have told you my name instead of lying. It is... a survival mechanism of mine. I'm working on it. I'm sorry," he said, apologizing. He felt his cheeks flush and he glanced to the side in embarrassment. Not that it should even matter - she was Order, and just a long time target to bring into the fold - but it did, and seemed to matter a lot to her.
Maroon eyes flicked back to her after a moment. "By the way, I can't get in the bubble. I just appeared on the other side."

Honestly, Dinara wanted to just walk off, flounce off, if she could muster it. “Yeah it’s been a few years. Can’t you understand that? You literally.” She hesitated for a moment and marched through the bubble herself, huffing as she came out the other end. “You literally were all romantic, and then you just left. You don’t think that would make me mad? You don’t think I haven’t been just. Just Mooning over you since that happened? And then to be told you were lying to me the whole time about what and who you were. Don’t you think I have the right to be angry?”
Her voice rose in pitch and she huffed. “Yes. I can see that you came through the other side. Obviously I did too. Now what, oh great Jedi. This humble one just knows that you must have all the answers.”
Oh. Oh lord it felt so good to get all of this out. All of her anger and frustration. All of the confusion she had carried.
“By the way, smartass. I’m going to be joining your dumb Negaverse so I’m sure we’ll see a lot of each other. Only, if I have my way I’ll end up so much stronger than you.”

He leveled a gaze at her. "How is it my fault you didn't move on? How am I supposed to know you were still 'mooning' over me?! By Metallia, you're not actually the center of the universe, Dinara!" Mourite pinched the bridge of his nose. This chick was going to be the death of him. Probably.
Oh, so she was coming over to his side without any of his help. Great. Wonderful. Metallia would be pleased by this for someone other than him. That was fine. He didn't ******** care. He didn't. Don't look at him like that.
"If it's so dumb, why the ******** are you joining? Doesn't that make you like... even more dumb?" He groaned, passing about for a moment. "Hold a grudge much huh?"
He sort of wanted to punch her, but no, she was a girl and he couldn't just... punch girls. She was a knight though... No, no back to the topic at hand.
"Did you see the sign on the other side? With the weird a** wisp thing? Maybe we need to find those to get inside the bubble." It was worth a shot at least. If she'd stop yelling at him, maybe they could, oh I don't know, try and fix whatever he apparently broke.

Not the center of the universe. Well. That much was obvious.
All of the anger seemed to just leave her and she stood there, confused and just a little winded, her eyes filling with traitorous tears. Well. Fine. Fine she could.
Whatever.
“Yeah. I saw the sign.” Her voice was quiet and her heart felt as though it were utterly and completely breaking.
Why she didn’t just walk away was utterly beyond her. God. She was such an idiot.
