Quote:
The Wishing Tree (1): A Destiny City Star Festival Tradition to be held every year; In Town Square, there is a beautiful tree with spreading branches. It is tall, but the lowest branches are easily reached. The city has decorated the tree with small, starlike ornaments and glistening lights. Thick leaves and beautiful purple flowers dangle from the branches, along with a myriad of different colored papers with handwritten wishes. Next to the tree is a stack of blank paper with twine attached, and a handwritten sign that explains:

Write your wish on a sheet of paper and tie it to the tree. Take one wish off the tree and do your best to grant it. When you have granted the wish, bury the paper in the park.

The papers are biodegradable and filled with seeds. There are no rules for wishing, but you are encouraged to wish for something vague enough that it can be interpreted in many ways so that it can be granted; you do not write your name on it, but it is encouraged to write something that doesn’t wish for self gain, but rather something that can make the world a better place. Some wishes dangling from the tree already include things like “I wish there wasn’t so much litter in the park,” “I wish someone would clean the graffiti off the old historic buildings,” and “I wish there were more volunteers at the shelter.”

If you choose to use the Wishing Tree, what do you wish for? If your wish is private, you may write it on the paper and choose a spot in the park and bury it yourself instead of hanging it on the tree.

Sava hadn't made their two week rendezvous, and that fact upset her more than she could say...but...things had to be taken care of. She had to figure out this new life of hers...and she thought that she was doing pretty well at that. Or...at least she hoped that she was.

Somehow it had been months that had passed...but finally, the new Cosmos Knight felt settled enough to go to it and get back out into the world.

She had known that there would be losses, but the fact she no longer had any memory of her civilian life...it sucked a lot more than she had expected...but...in reality. She had all she really needed with her now. Her sister...her new family...she was happy.

If she could only find the people who made her powered life happier...that would...that would be wonderful. Ein, of course...and Painite. It would be so nice to find her old General and...see if she was still interested in purifying as well. It could be like old times.

Perhaps it was a pipe dream but…

Still.

As the knight neared the wishing tree, she picked up one of the papers and pursed her lips. What she wanted was selfish...so perhaps putting the wish on the tree wasn’t...the best idea. Even so...she could just dispose of it herself, couldn’t she?

Tongue between her teeth, Sava wrote on the wishing tag. I wish to find those that I miss most. I wish to be reunited with those I have lost.

She nabbed an Amethyst Star Charm from the jar that was set on the table and tied it to the ribbon that was on her staff. Now, that was something that felt very familiar indeed.

And the feeling of a page nearby, it made her smile. Perhaps...she could make a new friend tonight. And perhaps...they could aid her in finding those who she lost.

Holding on to the wishing tag, Sava moved towards the aura, a slight spring in her step.

It had been a busy week helping some of the shops set up their booths in time for the Star Festival. Time well spent since it seemed that many of the people who came to visit were enjoying their time, the liveliness of the community always made her smile just like opening day to a new production at the theater.

Perhaps it was the multi-colored lights or streets full of jubilation and sweet scents but Einhornhohle had felt the pull to visit her wonder continue to grow for the last several hours until finally the sunset and she had found a safe place to power up. She was just about to speak the oath that would whisk her away to her own private retreat when an almost startling strong aura stepped within her sensing range. Thankfully it was an order signature like her own which gave her reason to breath easily and wait to see if their curiosity brought them to her or if they were merely passing by while on patrol.

Finally, the page came into view and Sava paused, her face lighting up with utter joy when her mind registered just who it was. “Ein!” The name fell from her lips before she could hold it back and then the knight paused for a moment. Sure, she had missed the rendezvous but...Ein also hadn’t been in contact with Qingcheng…

Had she presumed so far as to think...it wouldn't have been a stretch to think that the page might have wanted to not see her again...and even now...she looked so drastically different.

Sava’s hurried steps faltered slightly and she gave a rather uneasy grin. “Hey. Long time no see...ah...You look as lovely as ever, I hope you know. It’s a great night, isn’t it?”

She kept the words she wanted to say locked tightly behind her lips. Stupid words like ‘I just made a wish on the wishing tree and then you showed up like magic. I really missed you. I’m glad you’re okay.’ Words that were obviously better left unsaid until she knew where she stood.

Einhornhohle looked visibly surprised when the approaching Knight called out to her by name. However, when the woman approached and continued the greeting with familiar compliments, the Page visibly relaxed.

"Cavan?" She asked cautiously.

It seemed that the General had succeeded in purifying however, she wasn't certain which memories she had retained since she knew her powered name both as an agent and civilian. For one reason or another she had assumed that by purifying, Cavan would have started out like her; a Page, rather than a full fledged knight that actually looked like a cosmos knight with the soft pastel rainbow dress where as Einhornhohle's dress made her look like she got lost on her way to a bridal party.

Sava smiled brightly when she heard the recognition in Ein’s voice and she nodded. “Sava. Sava of Cosmos now. Of all the things, can you even imagine that I became a cosmos knight? Goodness of all of the crazy karma in the universe...you know?” She chuckled and hesitated, moving and embracing the page before she could stop herself, squeezing her lightly. “You’re as beautiful as ever, Einhornhohle. It’s nice to feel you and not have the desire to dampen your light…”

Her words were soft and pressed into the other woman’s hair, with the knight giving a sigh.

“I missed you. I’m sorry I missed our two week thing...It was busy and I was trying to get used to everything again...but. I…”

Swallowing, Sava detached herself from Ein and sighed. “...I’m here now. ANd was just making a wish that I’d get to see you so...the wishing tree strikes again…”

"Talk about lucky," then again, perhaps luck had nothing to do with that; how many times have they randomly ran into each other without consciously looking or actively setting up a time to meet? Hell the one time they did set a planned date, both of them had missed it.

Coincidence, maybe. But Ein was fairly convinced there were higher powers in play be it Fate or Destiny.

The Page took a step back and looked the Knight over appraisingly "You look more like a Cosmos Knight than I do," she admitted. "Did they let you pick what Knight you wanted to be or was it chosen for you?" Ein asked, no doubt curious how the purification actually went.

Sava gave a little smile. “No, you look like her, in a way. She was the one who did it...Cosmos, I mean...I...no, I didn’t get to pick...which...both amuses me and is a little exasperating. I had been...so set against Cosmos Knights in all my time with the Negaverse and...maybe a part of me always...knew. Doubtful, but it sounds quite poetic when I say it like that. I tell you, Cavansite would never have picked to be a Cosmos Knight but…”

She shrugged and gave a small, sad smile as she looked down at her hands. “It feels right. Like something has slid into place...a dislocated bone or...or like a lung was finally able to take a full breath. I feel free...and I guess that’s understandable. I am free of Chaos now…”

Sava drew in a long breath and let it out slowly. “You’ll get stronger, Ein. I can help you now. We can be real friends. It seems like we’re destined to be anyway.”

"You definitely seem happier," Ein offered a genuine smile.

The last time the two of them spoke Cavansite seemed a mix of anxious and worried. Looking over her shoulder as if a ghost was following her perhaps expecting a fellow agent to try reporting her as a traitor again. But now she was free and with both a new name and new appearance, it was unlikely they would find her.

"I'm not really sure that getting stronger will help." She powered down now that there was no reason to hide. In place of a long purple dress was a pair of simple jeans, black tank top and light grey cardigan. "Like I had mentioned before, I'm not really interested in this war. I'm not going to fight something I don't understand."

For a moment, Sava felt stunned that Ein had decided she trusted her enough to power down...and she swallowed hared, not quite knowing how she felt about that trust.

It made her feel warm inside and just reinforced the idea that she had done the right thing. “Oh! Wow um! “ She glanced around quickly and powered down as well, smiling warmly. “I’ll do what I can to help you understand...there’s a lot of bad in this city...and you can help protect it. You’ve been given power for a reason, and I hope...now that you have someone who’s more than willing to patrol with you...that maybe we can find that reason.”

She held out her hand. “Melody Zanjin at your service. I’ll give you my number too. Me and someone I had brought into the Negaverse both got ourselves out...and we decided to.” She shrugged. “Become siblings so we both took the same name. He didn’t have any family before this, ah. Obviously I lost my civilian memories, which…” Melody shrugged again and sighed. “It’s not that big of a loss, I don’t think. I spent the last several years powered all the time so...that was my life.”

"My name is Melody as well, Melody Webber."

The two shook hands, "I'm glad you had someone with you so you weren't alone." Unlike when she first awakened as a knight. She had a roommate for a short while but then he moved out and she had been alone since. Going home to an empty house left her married to her work since there were no animals for her to take care of.

It went without saying that it was very lonely at the start of it. Nobody to confide in about what had happened or to give her advice. Sure she could have tried reaching out to other knights; powering up and searching for other auras like her own. But that just inevitably led to more problems and trouble than it was worth. If it wasn't a random invasion, or being whisked to some interdimensional pocket of space, or a youma biting at her heels, then it was agents must stronger and more experienced than she was looking to rip out her Starseed or cut off her head.

"In some way it is a blessing you retained your powered memories. It makes you better equipped than most when dealing with someone of the opposite faction. You have insight into the rules they play by or tactics they might use. However, I do worry about what would happen if you end up running into someone you used to be friends with or used to respect." Would they understand her decision to leave or would they declare her a traitor and force her to go back to the Negaverse? Could Sava hide the knowledge that she knew them or would she try to reconnect with them on some level?

Shuddering slightly, Melody shrugged. “Well...hopefully they won’t recognize me, and I know I won’t actively tell them who I was...I look and feel different enough...and there should be some magic that protects me but…” She shrugged. “We’ll just cross that bridge when we get to it, yeah?”

She hoped that they didn’t get to it...and really, really hoped it was never Axinite on the bridge...he would kill her for sure. No questions asked.

The fact that they had the same name...it was cute. Like some more fate was tied into their being friends. “Do you want to go get ice cream with me or something? And we should exchange numbers...you won’t have to be alone either! We’ll be friends. We should hang out often, if that’s not asking too much.” She felt so utterly excited about it. A friend that she made on her own...someone that she had met on her own. A relationship that she had nurtured.

"Ice cream sounds like a good idea, we can swap numbers once we find a place where we can sit down." Her purse was a mess of small sewing kits, spare threads, tide pens for fabric stains, and other things she kept on hand while at work. Assuming she put her phone in the right pocket then it would be easy enough to fish out but she didn't want to look like a disorganized mess when, in her own words, it was organized chaos.

"My co-workers have commented several times that I need to get out more." Granted their idea meant going to bars and getting black out drunk, unless they were the performers; they... well, to be honest, she wasn't entirely sure what they did for fun but it was obviously more than she did if they were offering her advice.

"Do you have a favorite place you'd like to go to?"

She winced a little and shrugged. “You pick? I don’t...I mean I didn’t get ice cream much while running around as a General...and I trust you and your decisions! If your co-workers say you need to get out, then they’ll be happy to hear that you are! And you have a fantastic new friend to boot.”

Melody grinned and hesitated. “There was a shop I passed on the way to the wishing tree though, and it looked like it was open, if you want to try there?”

Maybe ice cream could be their thing. Ice cream and visits to one another’s wonders. That would be...it would be fun. “I haven’t been up to my Wonder yet but, I promise I'll take you up sometime, if you’d like to visit. I mean, I’ve been to your place often enough, it’s time for you to see some more of the Universe, don’t you think?” Her eyes began to sparkle, and she suddenly wanted to see what her wonder would be like…

She hoped it was as beautiful as Ein’s was.

“We can try that place if you’d like. I can’t remember the name of it worth the life of me, but if it’s the one I’m thinking of, there are two parlors owned and operated by the same couple. The one near us is their original location, a second one opened up about four years ago, I think.” She had been meaning to visit the ice cream parlor but either it wasn’t the right season, she got off work too late and the shop was cold, or she had just been spending the day in the back of the theater with the AC cranked up too high.

She liked ice cream as much as the next person, but when you have a high mortgage, no roommates, and living on a budget; Haagen Dazs or Bryers tends to be a girl's best friend.

As they started walking, Melody worried her lower lip. “You know, I’ve never been invited to anyone else's wonder or homeworld. It would be interesting to see how similar ours are.”

“Well, you’re invited to mine, no questions asked. And I’m sure my roommates wouldn’t mind taking you to theirs either. Uhhh Two Cosmos and a Saturn, if you’re curious. They’re all together. It’s us and the cat...and I live in the basement and it’s rather glorious...or it’s getting there. Slowly. Better than it was to start out!”

Falling quiet again, Melody simply smiled. It would be fun to explore. Fun to see how everything differed...but.

But she was definitely bringing sand toys up to Einhornhohle the next time she went. That wasn’t even slightly negotiable.

“There it is! This is my treat!” Grabbing the other woman’s wrist, Melody drew her into the ice cream shop, positively giddy.
