Summer Festivals

Solo or RP Format
Counts as 5 RP growth Points
Solo word minimum is 750, RP post minimum is 7

Summer was drawing closer and closer and the different villages around Tendaji were beginning to plan their summer festivals. It was a tradition in Tendaji - to celebrate the Gods every year in the summer when spirits were high and food was at its most abundant.

All the races had their own gods to celebrate, whatever those might have been, and every person had their own feelings one way or the other.

[ What did they mean to you? With the summer fast approaching, it must be somewhere (no matter how small) on everyone’s thoughts. And what are your thoughts on the other culture’s gods? ]

Daspien was back in Matori taking a break just in time for the festivals. Many travelers had already completed their trips, which meant he was on a break until everyone would return home. It was nice that this year he got a chance to go to Matori, where there was a circus in town celebrating the summer. He had never gotten a chance to go, so he made sure to head over early and get as best of a seat as possible.

As he passed his ticket to the vendor, he walked through the gates and looked around in awe.

Nedelle clapped her hands together, a grin already across her face. The crowd was shaping up nicely and she understood why. The summer festival was just picking up and everyone wanted to enjoy their day and see the spectacle that was the circus. It was a great time for them to be performing.

She was already dressed in her performing ensemble, her bare feet digging into sand as she walked and the sun on her shoulders. Her hair was even more decorated than usual to give it a special flair for the festival.

She saw what looked to be a hybrid not unlike herself and with a decorative somersault she sprang forward and into his path. "Why hey there! Here to see the show? You have good taste and you're in for a real treat if I do say so myself." she put her hand against her chest as she spoke, ending her sentence with a wink.

Daspien was enthralled by the sparkling and glimmering of the space, so much so that he didn't realize until Nadelle was right in front of him, startled enough to take a step back as a laugh escaped his lips. As she gave her little pitch, he grinned back and shook his head a moment.

"What can I say, it's hard to resist checking out the hottest thing this side of Tendaji..." He replied back with good nature, "Not only a festival, but a circus?" He let the sentence linger a moment, as it really spoke for itself. Who would want to miss the celebration?

Nedelle beamed wider and grabbed the earthling’s hand in both of hers. ”Oh yes! Not just a circus though, the best circus in Tendaji. We’ve built up quite a reputation for ourselves.”

She let go of his hands long enough to put her own under her chin. ”Tell me now, what are you most excited to see? The main show, the animals, the fortune tellers, the aerialists?” she dragged out the last word. That would be her of course. She was the aerialist in the circus. She had been training since she was old enough to walk and her mama had brought out the training fabrics. She had been awful at first, but she loved it so much she practiced until her whole body would be sore.

As he examined the girl in front of him, he realized a moment too late that she was quite similar to himself. Maybe the opposite but with the same background. She definitely looked like a water/yaeli with those eyes, skin and hair. Maybe she had something else, he wasn't as familiar with the hybrids of the world, but he suspected she was basically one in the same.

His grin widened as she gave her pitch, before his eyes narrowed at how she said aerialists. Was she one?

"Probably the Aerialists...well anyone who does something unique and different from the day-to-day."

Nedelle felt her chest swell with pride when he finally answered her question with obviously the right answer. ”You have good taste, I can tell.” She grinned to the hybrid boy and offered her hand for a proper shake. ”I’m Nedelle, I’m the aerialist!”

"Almost as if we have a connection." He said with humor, before taking her hand and shaking it back "Daspien. Great to meet a fellow hybrid split by the sea."

Dropping her hand, he laughed as he realized what she had done, "No wonder you sold it so strongly. Well, I don't mind seeing something new...maybe I'll learn a new tricks...I work on the ships, and sometimes the fools like to swing from the masts."

Oh, so he was a sailor. She shook his hand with enthusiasm and grinned to him. ”Speaking of different from the day-to-day, I would think being on a ship all the time would count, don’t you?” It was one thing to be a fisherman and dock every day, but the way Daspien worded it made it seem like he was out to sea all the time. ”I take it you do a lot of traveling then?”

She lit up at the thought of another hybrid being worldly. ”You have to tell me all about it! I’ll bet you have a ton of stories you could share. Maybe we can make it an even trade. I’ll show you some moves in return.” She was nearly beaming at the idea. Who would have thought that Nedelle would have met someone who had the potential to be so interesting with just a little marketing?

He smiled, but it was slightly bitter. Daspien was feeling a bit bored with his current job. Back and forth and back again, he really wanted to explore the seas with a free company compared to the job he currently had. But he didn't want to dump those thoughts on his new friend.

"Oh yeah, mostly between the main ports...Matori and Yael, occasionally Kahikina if things work out..."

Shrugging it off, he allowed himself to be swept up in her energy and laughed a bit, "Most of my stories are of the travelers I see...recently I saw one of the Elidae...those new bug-people who live in Kahikina. She had bright teal hair!"

Nodding again, "Oh yes, I'd love to see. I'm sure it's not easy to do."

Nedelle hung on Daspien’s every word, it was so exciting! Kahikina! Nedelle hadn’t even thought about that. It was still such a new place she hadn’t heard much except for the occasion chatter from other patrons of the circus.

”Oh wow! That must be so different from the alkidike!” She knew of the alkidike and of the elaria, though she had only seen alkidike around. The elaria were still so bitter as far as she knew, they didn’t make an appearance in the general crowd, though she had heard that that might be changing soon, too. But an entirely new race in Kahikina, that was something else. ”I bet they’re a sight to see. Was she traveling too, then?”

"Yeah, she was pretty cool, her mother too. She was more interested in traveling than trying to rip me apart, so I didn't mind..." He replied casually, a joking tone and a wink.

"She's trying to go to every tree, so across the area. She had the same wiggly bits like the Elaria, but was super pale with yellow markings. Hopefully more of them come out who are peaceful, because it was interesting to hear about her experiences."

Looking around, he saw the crowds were starting to pick up, "Oh, is the show starting soon?" He was excited to see what it was all about.

Nedelle was so caught up in the conversation she was having she had lost track of the time. The crowd was getting larger and she raised her eyebrows in surprise. "Oh yes! It would be getting close to that time now, wouldn't it? Wow, you should stick around after the show and you can tell me more stories!" She offered. Of course, her side of the deal still stood as well, she would show him some of her tricks and give him a little private lesson.

"What a time to think that the aishans could be peaceful, right?" She commented as she scanned the growing crowd starting to find their seats. "I hate to be rude, but I guess I'm going to have to leave you soon." She frowned and heaved a sigh. They were just getting to the good parts of his story.

"Of course, I've got nothing else to do now...and if you want, we could also talk over some food. I hear the festival stalls are pretty nice."

He too looked across the crowd, humming in agreement and looking back with a sheepish smile, "I probably need to find some seats if I want a good view. Good luck, can't wait to see the show. Let's meet maybe..."

He looked around, before catching sight of one of the carts decorated with a bunch of animals from the north, "Over by that cart when things are over?" Pointing, he hoped that would be pretty quiet so he could find her. He was excited to keep talking and continue the friendship, as well as hear about her travels in return.

Happy, he was grateful he made another friend, and hoped he would be able to maintain this friendship with both of them traveling in the future. Guess only time would tell.

Nedelle nodded fervently in agreement. "Yes! Right over there!" She gave another quick sweep of the crowd with her head and gave Daspien an apologetic look. "Ok, I have to go now, but I'll see you! Enjoy the show!" She called out, already turning on her heels and running toward backstage.

It was a serendipitous meeting in the best of ways.
