John sighed as he passed through the doors into the "cleanest" bar that was near the Museum. He didn't mind going to bars and drinking, but some of them just mopped more, you know? Tonight though he was just feeling a bit extra tired and with the day off tomorrow it would be okay for him to drink a bit more tonight than he usually did. He had heard about the Farnsworth building incident. He wasn't exactly sure what had happened, but an acquaintance of his who worked in the building had said that people in weird outfits were there. Whether that was Agents draining them or Order trying to save them John didn't know, but it had peaked his interest. Still, he hadn't been there so he couldn't give an opinion on it, but if he found someone who had, he wanted to know all about what had gone down. He walked up to the bar and asked the bartender for his usual and when he finally settled in he could see a man with blonde dreadlocks who appeared to be at least one or two drinks in already. John smiled. This might be an entertaining night then. "Hey there, don't think we've met before, I'm John." He said to the fellow, trying to be as friendly as he could.

This wasn't Rob's usual bar, The c**k and Bull; this was just the first one he'd come across that didn't smell. It was near the Museum, so it drew an entirely different crowd than his "local" in the Arts District did: museum workers and visitors, tourists, clean-cut office folks. Rob knew he stood out with his dreadlocks and leather jacket, but he didn't care. He needed a drink. He was on his fifth whiskey when a fellow who looked like one of the employees at the Museum sat near him at the bar. Rob barely paid attention otherwise; he wasn't sure if the guy would ignore him or what. In a way, either would be good: on the one hand, he wanted to be left alone, but on the other, he wanted to talk about the incident at the Farnsworth Building. He still had a lot of processing to do, and sometimes talking about s**t made processing easier. So when the guy spoke to him and introduced himself in a friendly manner, Rob knew which it wsa going to be. "P- Rob," he responded to John with a small but friendly smile of his own. He'd very nearly slipped and given his powered-up name! Sitting up straighter, he held out his hand. "Nice to meet you, John. You work around here?" he asked.

Perhaps the first name was a name that Rob didn't like to be called but recalled it while drunk. Whatever the case was, John would go with "Rob". He shook the held hand. "Nice to meet you too. And yes, I work at the museum as an archivist. It's interesting since I get to choose which pieces of art make it in there." He said with a chuckle. "What do you do Rob? Doesn't look like you would usually hang out around here but that isn't a bad thing. You may stand out a bit more but that just makes you more interesting." He said with a smile. It was true. John would go to just about any bar, but this one had a more relaxed atmosphere. So to see someone like Rob who didn't quite fit in, it intrigued him and made John want to learn more about this different character.

"An archivist? That sounds very cool," Rob nodded. Finishing the glass of whiskey he'd been nursing, he signalled the bartender for another. It was pretty evident that he was already feeling the booze. "Me, I'm a musician. I play guitar and sing in a punk band, Torgo. Which is right now mostly just me, so we don't play out much. I also play bass and drums and pennywhistle and a lot of things that ain't punk at all." He snorted a soft laugh. He got his drink and a look from the bartender. "Don't worry, mate, I don't drive," he advised them, then settled in to nurse his fresh glass. "And I'm not going to do anything vulgar on yer floor -- I'm better than that." Laughing, he looked at John. "Some days if you don't laugh you'll cry, yeah? Like today. This is one of those some days."

John chuckled again. He couldn't help but like this guy quite a bit already. "Torgo? Even if you're the only one I'd like to listen to a song sometime." He was always willing to listen to different types of music. If one looked at his music playlists they were all over the place in terms of genres. "Better than me. I can't play any instrument, but I can tell you how old one is after examining it for a bit." He took a sip of his own drink and smiled at the bartender. "I'll vouch for him." He said with a wink, and as the bartender sighed John was sure he heard him muttering something about him "always saying that...". John was a bit concerned by his last sentence though. "Oh really? Why's that? Something bad happen?" He didn't mind listening to someone vent, it was a good way to learn about the city, and he needed it now especially since he had become a part of all the mysterious shenanigans that he was sure was from the war in the city.

"As it happens," Rob grinned and reached into his backpack, "I have a few CDs on me." He pulled one out and handed it to John. "Here you go, I hope you like it. I wrote all the songs, except the English tradie ones, and played all the instruments. It's punk, but with folk and Celtic roots -- I call it Pict-punk." He listened as John described his job in a nutshell, nodding with interest. "That's pretty cool that you can do that. I'll have to bring some of my antique stuff round for you to assess. I have some hand-me-down woodwinds from my mum's dad, and a vintage John Lennon acoustic guitar that I don't know how old it is." Hearing John vouch for him, Rob smiled beatifically at the bartender and finished his drink. "Another, please," he requested as sweetly as he could. When John asked what was wrong, though, Rob's smile went wry. "You heard about what happened at the Farnsworth Building today? Well, I was there…" He picked up his fresh drink and sipped deeply. He didn't want to say in what capacity he was there, but he had to talk about it, get some of it out of his system before heading home.

John's eyes brightened at the CD that was handed to him. "Excellent. I'll listen to this when I get back home then." He had tomorrow off after all, he could stay up and listen. "I'll make sure to remember what you call it, Pict-punk." He took another drink. "I would love to assess them for you. It's different than doing it at some thrift or antique store. I have specific tools for some of this stuff. Can even do some carbon dating if you would be okay with that." He said with a laugh. "They sound interesting to assess though. It would be a good idea to get them double checked so you have two opinions, but I like to trust my own at least." He said giving the other a large grin. His face turned to one of concern though when he heard that the other had been at the Farnsworth building today. No wonder he was drinking like that. "I have. One of my friends works there and told me about it. He said it appeared to be a routine fire, but he said that there were some weirdly dressed people there and some frightful creatures." John leaned on the bar, facing Rob. "But he thinks that might be due to smoke inhalation. I don't know though, you stay in this city long enough and you start seeing some weird things." He said with a wave of his hand, almost as if he was dismissing the idea entirely, but he couldn't say he was trying to be tricky to the other. He wanted to see if he could assess whether this man was also a part of this whole magic stuff and even if he was on the same side. If he was then John could hint at what he was, but for now, all he could say was that weird things happened.

Rob took another deep drink of his whiskey and paused before replying. "Yeah, there's some really weird s**t in this city, and I think all of it was at the Farnsworth. Monsters of all types, people in weird uniforms doing things to regular folks -- sometimes killing them -- and other people in funny outfits fighting the uniform people…" He trailed off, figuring that was vague enough without giving away that he was one of the people in funny outfits and he knew far too much of what had gone on. "It's a right disaster area. Not only was the Farnsworth damaged, but the plaza, the buildings around it are damaged, traffic is still a nightmare… I can't imagine what this is going to cost to put right." That was one thing he rarely thought about, collateral damage. Not that he ever got in fights or battles that majestic to cause property damage, but there was always the possibility of the other guy doing that. Taking another drink, he changed the subject. "Anyway, I hope you like my music. I have a lot of fun making it," he smiled wanly at John. "I'm sure some songs are gonna come out of this whole mess today."

John was a bit disappointed, but wasn't surprised. He imagined that those fighting in all of this would want to keep their identities a secret, no matter where their loyalties lied. But Rob did confirm that he believed in the Youma at least, so that was a start! John couldn't help but laugh at the mention of the silly outfits. He remembered what his looked like and he had to admit that he would probably look more at home on a historical set or in a museum rather than as a Knight for the now no-longer-a-apart-of-planet of the solar system. He took a moment to calm down and think about what Rob said. "It's unfortunate. You try to do your best and not run into trouble in the city, even trying to educate and expand the knowledge of citizens and try to help them elevate themselves and then the city has to get destroyed or people are killed for meaningless reasons." He was sure that the Negaverse did it. He wasn't sure why they killed them, except for vaguely being told something about starseeds. It was truly sad and John wanted to fight to protect people. John nodded. "I hope so too. I like listening to different types, so this should be right up my alley." His smile flattened a bit when Rob talked about more songs. "It's a good way to express whatever you're feeling. If singing and playing helps you to deal with your feelings, I'm sure listening to your music does as well."

"Thanks, John, I appreciate that," Rob nodded, finishing up his drink. He ordered one more and slumped against the top of the bar. He was clearly becoming quite intoxicated. "Right, y'know, we try to do our best to protect people from getting drained of their life force, right, or losing their lives to these arseholes, an' they don't bleve you." He was rambling now, not caring whether or not John understood what he was talking about. "An' we- they tried their best, like, an' still people died. It's a bloody shame." He sat up as the bartender brought him his drink and shook his head at the drunken dreadlocked Englishman. "Look, I'm good for it, don't get your knickers in a twist, mate," he snarled at the bartender. "Givin' me a look like I'm some kind of lowlife or sommat…. Where was I? Oh yeah. I better shut my cakehole," his voice lowered to a near-whisper, "or I'm liable to say s**t…"

That was it. It appeared that Rob's brain was now thoroughly immersed in alcohol, to the point where he was rambling. It did tell John one thing though, that Rob was either a Knight or a Senshi. John couldn't ask for anything more than that, but it was enough for now. Luckily the bartender appeared to be preoccupied arguing with someone who thought they should get a discount due to not getting a lemon in their drink that they just asked to have with no lemons. The nerve of some people. "You can't save everyone, and if there was a way to predict what happened then we might stand more of a chance, but we can only do what we can at the time. I haven't run into it myself, but I'm sure I will someday and I'll have that feeling of guilt too." It was something that he had to "look forward to" as a Knight. Even if he wasn't the conventional European Knight, he knew what that word meant, and it was fighting. He would have to. And he was glad he had more strength as a Page, but until he had that magic unlocked, he wondered if he could do very much. He smiled at Rob. "Don't worry, I get it. And if you ever need someone to vent to, you can call me." He said, taking a business card of his out and writing down his Page name on the back. He knew he was taking a chance, but he hoped that Rob had decent pockets so that he wouldn't drop it somewhere on the way to get rid of his hangover before he could tell what it said on the card.

Rob looked at John with bleary eyes, deeply inebriated but reassessing his new acquaintance. "Yer right, you know. I gotta stop beating myself up for s**t I had no control over. Can't save them all," and he gave John a very intense look, "but I can try. And so can you." He accepted the business card, only briefly looking at it before stuffing it in the inner pocket of his leather jacket. "Thanks, John. I think you've helped more than you know." Fishing his wallet out of his back pocket, he pulled out a random amount of bills and tossed them on the bar. "There, that should appease Mr Stick Up His Arse Bartender," he said, breaking into a snickering, giggling cackle that only really drunk people can make. "I gotta go," he cackled, patting John on the shoulder as he dismounted the barstool, steadying himself like someone who had done this a lot. "Thanks for listenin' to me go on, John. I hope to meet you on the field of battle someday." Tossing the man a salute, he walked out of the bar more steadily than anyone who was as drunk as he was had any right to, still cackling. SSBrosB that's an exit from me! Thanks for the rp!
