Summer was drawing closer and closer and the different villages around Tendaji were beginning to plan their summer festivals. It was a tradition in Tendaji - to celebrate the Gods every year in the summer when spirits were high and food was at its most abundant.
All the races had their own gods to celebrate, whatever those might have been, and every person had their own feelings one way or the other.
[ What did they mean to you? With the summer fast approaching, it must be somewhere (no matter how small) on everyone’s thoughts. And what are your thoughts on the other culture’s gods? ]
------------------------------
Adenah very rarely missed a festival, much less when it was in service to the goddess Hatald. She was the patron deity for marriage and fertility, but also of women which meant that those of the feminine persuasion were always given special treatment during her festivals. The hybrid had already been given a wreath of thick, fat exotic flowers to wear on her head and any stall selling wares offered discounts to women as they passed.
Of course no discount beat the five fingered kind, but Adenah was behaving herself. So many of these vendors worked hard on their craft, and since involving herself with Dovian she'd tried to keep her hands to herself. Speaking of the other hybrid she'd sent a letter to him hoping he would meet her near the city square for a day out together, but whether or not he chose to come was up to him.

Dovian had gotten the letter after spending almost a full twenty-four hours working. Normally he'd have ignored such a request as he valued his sleep more than being social or going out with someone, but it had come from Adenah. So the blacksmith had cleaned up as best as he could before going out, with a yawn mind you, to meet the woman at the specified area. Or general area really.
For the day he'd pulled all of his dreads up into a high pony to keep them mostly off his neck. He'd forgone putting a shirt on since he was still a bit warm; lack of sleep may have also played a hand in that decision as well.
Sadly good luck was not on his side as he was spotted by someone else on his way to meet Adenah. One of his clients, Netali, noticed him and decided to join him in his walk. "Hello Dovian~" She all but chirped at him, making him cringe inwardly.
"Netali." He greeted back as politely as possible. "I'm on my way to meet someone so I won't be able to speak for long." He was hoping that would be enough of a deterrent. He also hoped a certain hybrid lady didn't notice the other woman so close to his side.
"Oh, is it business?" The woman asked as she slipped her arms around his so that she could cling. "Maybe after you would like to enjoy the festival with me?"
He gave her a deadpan look before shaking his head. "Not business actually."

At first Adenah's eye had been solely taken in by the stalls around her. She'd dressed in a plain, cotton sundress to play upon the 'purity' of the event and as such was coming across as kind hearted as possible. Not that she had to try, really; she was a naturally warm woman and many of the vendors she knew personally. Occasionally she would look up to try to spot Dovian, but when she still hadn't shown she pushed on. Best to have fun anyway, right? Just incase?
She'd just rounded a corner when she spotted him and her smile brightened...only to get a sharper little quirk. Seriously? At this rate she was going to have to put a large tattoo on his back that said-
No no, stop.
Retaining her smile, albeit in a predatory sense, Adenah walked closer to the pair. "Dovian! Sweetheart, I was afraid you wouldn't come; I know how hard you've been working." Stepping in closer, Adenah wasted no time in putting her hand on his arm and leaning up on her tip toes to place a kiss on his eye, all the while looking square at the other woman.
"Hello there, enjoying the festival?"

Netali didn't seem pleased to hear that Dovian was meeting someone and it wasn't for business. Not that the blacksmith seemed to care too much. He was in the process of bringing his other arm up to push her off him, gently of course, when he heard the familiar voice of a certain woman. He offered her a soft smile. "I will always make time for you." As she kissed him he closed his eyes and gave a hum of appreciation.
Netali, on the other hand, seemed to glare at Adenah. "Oh, you're still around I see." She didn't like the woman but she didn't know of a way to get her away from Dovian and keep her away without the blacksmith being upset. Which is why she'd tried to snag him when he was alone.
Dovi opened his eyes to give Netali a side glance. "Mhm, and she's welcome to stay for as long as she can put up with me." He pulled at the arm she was clung to, trying to lift it up and out of her grasp. "I very much enjoy her company." Among other things but he left that unsaid.

"Well, of course I am," Adenah chimed with a pleasant smile. "Unlike you I was never asked to leave." As much as she didn't enjoy seeing the other woman around, she knew she didn't have anything to worry about. If she'd learned one thing about Dovian it was that it took someone truly special to catch his eye and once they had it he wasn't likely to stray. So, if this little trollop hadn't managed to catch him yet she wasn't going to.
She just didn't seem to realize that.
"I heard something about fire dancers near the South side of the city. Do you want to go? We could pick up something to eat on the way."

Netali didn't seem to want to let go and it made Dovian feel his patience drain. He gave Adenah a tired look and a small frown. He was too tired to be the nice gentleman he usually was. So with his free hand he reached up to pinch the bridge of his nose lightly before pushing his fingers into his eyes. He rubbed at them gently then sighed. "Netali.." His rough voice had lost all politeness he might have had before. His hand lowered and he looked at the other woman. "Get your hands off me." He was a bit snippy as he said it. "I came out today to enjoy time with the only person I actually like that isn't family."
He stepped away from Netali and toward Adenah. "It's fair to say I am taken by her for as long as she wants me and if you continue to annoy her by clinging to me I won't stop her the next time she wants to hit you with something." With that dismissal done, as well as basically stating he was Adenah's, he turned his attention to the hybrid and offered her a slightly apologetic smile.
"I would love to go watch them with you and food sounds wonderful. I may have skipped a meal."

Adenah may have intervened if she actually liked Netali. She could have spared the woman Dovian's snippy words, but honestly, she had it coming. So, Adenah simply looked like the perzi who'd gotten the cream while he snapped.
"People like that make me actually want to murder people." Adenah murmured and gave him a sympathetic pat on his arm. The poor man was undeniably exhausted. As much as she wanted to celebrate this festival with him she also hadn't wanted to cause him anymore stress than he already had to deal with.
Still, when he mentioned skipping a meal, her pat turned into a hard pinch. "Dovian! We talked about this!" Giving him a not-so-subtle tug, Adenah started pulling him toward some of the food stalls. "If you don't eat you can't work and if you can't work whose going to make me all those pretty daggers I like so much?"
Still, something about the way he said that too..."If you keep talking like that people are going to think we're a real couple."

The pinch made him wince. Not from pain but because he knew she was going to.. yell. There it was. Dovian gave her a tired look then shrugged. "I was busy.. I forgot." As he was tugged he followed and was more than grateful that he could leave a dumbfounded Netali behind. "I can still make you pretty daggers even if I'm tired." He attempted to soothe Ade.
Of course he chuckled a little but said nothing else on the matter. Instead he looked at the food stalls as they got closer. "Think they have a decent shredded Xaraan? Its been a while since I've had some." It wasn't a common dish so he had to wonder if it would be served at a festival.

"You need to remember tomorrow, okay?" Honestly, she couldn't keep stopping by the forge just to make sure that a grown man ate. She would if she had to, of course, but it wasn't as if Adenah wanted to. If she had it her way he would put himself a little higher on the priority list so she wouldn't have to worry so much.
"Maybe? We can always take a look and see." Honestly, she hadn't seen it in a while and the last time she had was long before the first ships from Belrea arrived. As she walked, her eyes scanning over the stalls, Adenah cleared her throat, "So, I should let you know that I'm going to Jauhar for a while. I keep putting my mother off and if I don't go now she's going to come here."

Dovian grinned at her. "I'll remember as long as I don't get busy again." His head nodded slightly. "And I have no plans to pull an all nighter anytime soon so you don't have to worry." The blacksmith reached for her hand with one of his so that he could bring it to his lips for a kiss. He didn't mind showing affection in public.
At the mention of her travels he had to lift a brow. Mostly because she was telling him where she was going. That was unusual. Being told she would be gone for a few days was normal because of her work. A location was different. The reason even more so. Of course he chuckled at her. "You act like having your mother down would be a bad thing."

"Why don't I believe you?" Adenah let out a little huff, but smiled for him all the same. It was hard to stay cross when he was being this sweet. "I can't even ask Thea to check in on you now because she's busy with the kids. Speaking of, maybe we should pick her up something while we're here?" After all, it was a festival for women and fertility; both of which his sister had proven to be.
"I'm only telling you so you can come rescue me if I don't show up for a while." Adenah groused. "Having her here will mean she's-" Adenah lifted her free hand and held it just a smidge infront of his face, "-here the whole time or worse. Using her contacts to do it for her." Dris'rynne may have been exiled from the Irregulars but that didn't mean she didn't have her methods. "She's not a busy body, but she's just...overbearing?" Pausing for a moment, the hybrid perked up, "Is that xaraan meat over there? At the stall with the yellow canopy?"

He went semi-cross eyed when she put her hand so close but he still couldn't help the chuckle he gave. "It wouldn't be that bad, but alright." He nodded his head and continued to walk with her. "How long is too long then?" He might as well know what timeline Ade had in mind for a potential rescue.
At the mention of Xaraan meat his attention switched and he was effectively distracted. Dovi looked to where she pointed and tilted his head a bit. "Hm, could be. Wanna go check it out?"

7/7- One more to finish it~
"Between the time it takes to get there and catching up...two months. I'm only planning on being gone for one, but anything more than two means trouble." Dris'rynne wasn't the type to lock her daughter away, but she would put her to work and that might be just as bad.
Seeing the way his attention shifted, however, brought out a laugh. "Are you sure just skipped one meal and not two? Come on, even if it isn't we'll grab something small.." Worse case scenario she could always grab her food from here, let him pick off of it, and keep looking.

Given a time frame to keep in mind he nodded his head. Not that he was really worried about her not coming back in a timely manner. Adenah had always come back when she said she was going to.
At the mention of skipping more than one meal his stomach chose then to speak up for him. With a low grumble his stomach added to the conversation and Dovian couldn't help but color a little in the face. "Okay, so maybe it was closer to two or three meals I missed.." And with that he ducked away from her, out of arms reach so he could see what the food stalls had before she took the opportunity to pinch him again. Or worse.
