"All aboard!"
The yell rolled across the small shipyard in Kahikina, still a fledgling even after all the years of travel between the continents. Daspien leaned against the railing of the ship, his amber eyes looking at the people on the pier as they rushed around or said their goodbyes. Occasionally, he'd catch sight of one of the Aishans who ventured into the area, but mostly it was Earthlings or Kahikinians.
He had yet to see any of the Elidae that were north of the sea. That was something he was always curious about, but heeded the warnings. No one traveled to the camp, at least not yet.
Turning away, he heard one of the crew call out. Rushing to help, they prepared the drop the sails and hit the sea. It was time to head back to Yael.

Nayyara rushed toward the boat where her mother was already waiting, having lingered behind to say farewell to some of her friends. Waving as she jumped on the plank, she smiled with exciting and anticipation. This was it, it was finally happening. She was about to embark on the grand adventure...the chance to see her family's history and see the world around her.
Grinning at the random sailors who gave her a startled side eye (the Elidae were still young and it was rare to see one wandering about), she giggled and stood on her toes to see if her mother was anywhere nearby.

Daspien finished up his work with a wipe to his brow, comfortable in the heat but still one prone to sweat with some good hard work. As he took a swig of water from the skin on his hip, his amber eyes caught sight of a surprising sight. How convenient, considering his curious thoughts just a few minutes earlier.
Glancing about to make sure he wasn't being watched too closely (and thus about to be scolded for wandering about when they needed to put some work in), Daspien meandered over to the tall and lanky teenager.
"Ahoy!" He grinned with some humor, making sure she'd hear his approach. He assumed she was the type who was friendly, considering her expression.

The hustle and bustle of the ship was fascinating to watch, and Nayyara set her pack down to just linger and watch it all happen. Earthlings were surprisingly strong and determined, obviously a few compensated for their weak statures with extra muscles, but overall they seemed much more capable than many of the Aishans gave them credit for.
Nayyara giggled a moment to herself before a voice startled her out of her thoughts, and she turned to see a boy her age heading over. Her emerald eyes examined his form, curious at his speckled skin and droopy ears, before she laughed a moment and replied with a casual, "Ahoy!" in return.

Phew, looked like she was on the friendly side, and a bit playful too. Her height was a bit intimidating, but he knew from some of the other patrons that most Aishans towered over the Earthlings, much like some of the Kahikinans they took over to Tendaji. Beside, as a younger member of the crew, he was used to bigger and taller mates rushing around.
"First time on a ship?" He asked casually, settling against the railing next to her and looking out to the hustle as they rocked with the waves.

Nayyara was a bit anxious to meet other Earthlings. She was raised in secrecy, and had never really seen one until she got closer to the docks. To be this close, speaking with one, was a bit exciting, and she was sure her mother would warn her to keep to herself and be cautious around strangers.
But when the Earthling settled next to her without missing a beat, Nayyara knew she had made the right judgement call, and was excited to make a new friend.
"Yep!" she said with a chirp, "Though I'm sure I'll get used to them soon enough...I'm traveling across Tendaji, you see..."

"Traveling across Tendaji?" He echoed, giving her a look. It was hard to imagine the elusive Elidae would want to go around the world. Maybe there was some sort of mission behind it.
"Hmm...that's quite the journey..." He said lamely after the long pause, stumbling a bit.

The tall teen chuckled a moment, flexing her fingers as she felt the sway pick up. She hoped she wouldn't get sick...her mother warned her that the rocking could mess up one's stomach. She focused instead on the conversation and keeping herself distracted.
"Oh yeah...I'm going to go see every great tree. That means one in Yael, Jauhar, and Belrea..."

Oh, well that made more sense. It reminded him of the pilgrimage his Yaeli family would make every year back to the great temples. It must be some sort of visit...or something special for her because he didn't hear it often from the other Aishan travelers.
"Well you're going to sail to Yael and need to make a trip across to the Elaria camp. Then come back and sail up to Matori...travel across the country to Jauhar...and then travel again across to either sail or take an airship to Belrea..."
Yeah, that was a long trip. Daspien felt the ghost of jealous trickle down to his stomach and attempted to squash it away.

The sunlight on the waves was beautiful if not blinding, so Nayyara turned to begin evaluating the other earthlings on the ship. Most were covered with speckles and brilliant shades of blue, but there were a few who were darker like her companion.
When Daspien finished his listing, Nayyara smiled as she turned to look at him, "Oh yeah, my mother says we're going to be traveling a lot...but it's worth it. I really want to meet the other Aishans and thank the other trees..."
Blushing a bit at that, she quickly pivoted, "So, you are a...sailor?"

Going to see each of the trees. It was such an interesting concept, mostly because Earthlings never would get a chance to see them unless they were a love of the Aishans. And even then, he only really heard about that from those who visited the Alkidike tree that towered in the west.
Before he could go too deep into those thoughts, she shifted the conversation to him, and he was happy to pivot.
"Pretty green, but yeah, I'm a sailor. Getting my skills wherever I can...can't help but want to live at the sea."

Living at the sea, Nayyara couldn't really imagine always being with the waves, but as she looked around at the family-like atmosphere, focused on working and making way across the shimmering waves, she started to see the charm.
"Guess you can go wherever you want...as long as it touches the sea..." she replied slowly.

"Well, that's not as free as you'd expect. We have to deal with storms, and pirates, and rocks and all sorts of things. And if you sail too far...you could get lost and never see another island again..."
Daspien paused a moment. He was echoing the lectures he often heard from his captain when he expressed desire to explore the world.

Well that sounded suddenly dark and dangerous. Sure, Aisha and her daughters couldn't reach out to the sea, but was it really that dangerous. Suddenly the girl felt her stomach drop a bit...she was on the sea. Would they see a storm or hit rocks?
Looking ahead, she took a deep breath, "But we're safe, right?"

Leaning back and looking up at the bright blue skies, he listened to the shrill call of the birds that would follow them out to sea. If he looked back toward land, he'd note they were making good distance thanks to the wind as the island would be shrinking. Instead, he just looked to his new friend.
"Of course! These trips are scheduled to avoid major dangers. We've done this hundreds of times and the worst that could happen is dealing with a headwind that slows us down."
