She didn’t need to fight this war, either. Destiny City and its many problems had little effect on her life before, and they didn’t trouble her much now. The world could burn for all she cared. It was beyond saving, and certainly not worth the effort required to do so.
Carnallite took her time cornering her victims simply because it entertained her. Every nervous glance over their shoulders, every widening of the eyes, every scurrying move down the street amused her. As a Lieutenant, she didn’t have the destructive weapons or the extensive power of the higher ranks. She had to make do with what was available to her, so she crept through the shadows just out of sight, occasionally letting her presence be known by the sound of her footsteps or a purposeful nudge of some loud piece of junk cluttering the streets and alleyways.
Her third victim of the night was a young woman whose only offense was being in the wrong place at the right time. The area of town they crept through was mostly deserted of people, though the occasional stray lurked about, rummaging through garbage.
Carnallite drew closer, watching the woman’s panicked search through the bag hanging from her shoulder, the tight grip she had on her phone.
There were probably easier ways to drain energy, methods she could employ to ensure she made her quota in a timely manner, but taking the easy way out wasn’t any fun at all.
