Paracelsian didn't often suffer from nervous fidgets when he was alone, but given the circumstances, he felt justified in indulging himself in every jitter on the planet.

His suspicions were confirmed by a second surprise invitation from Axinite. If he was concerned that maybe he was being watched, he now knew he had every reason to be have that concern. Why else would he receive this summons? Why else was he sitting in this office, waiting for General-King Axinite to come through and have words with him?

He wondered which incident had made it to Axinite first. Was it the whole snafu with Cor Caroli? Had he let word of his plans for the Negaverse slip to the wrong person? The former was expected, the latter less so. He didn't think he'd even breathed a word of his dreams for a more reasonable Negaverse to anyone on his own side, only to Order members who declared that he should take that motivation and bail out with it.

All the same, he sat in the office, trying to get every hint of dread out of his body before his superior approached him.

The energy signature was hard to miss, so it was easy to tell when Axinite was coming even before he made his appearance. He had reached out to Paracelsian to request his presence, and while Axinite was scant on the details, he hadn’t given any indication that there was anything nefarious about this meeting.

He paused when he stepped into the room and saw the Captain. “Paracelsian,” he greeted. “You’re a bit early. I had hoped to have time to straighten up a bit. Please forgive the mess,” he said, as he walked to his desk.

There were a few stacks of paper, but nothing seemed particularly messy. Axinite set a tray of cookies on the edge of the desk, between the two of them. They smelled fresh, and were warm and moist still; he gestured to them. “Help yourself, if you’re so inclined. I’m sorry to keep you waiting. You look nervous, is everything alright?”

The energy signature walloped Paracelsian's senses. It was a testament to how absorbed he'd become that he didn't take in the full magnitude of a General-King's aura until just now. It wasn't like this was even the first time he'd felt it. Today it just felt like being sat on by a giant weighted blanket in nebulous creature form.

He watched Axinite set a tray of cookies down. They smelled heavenly, but he had his concerns. What if they had truth serum in them? What if they had those weird youma bug things they jammed into the ears of insubordinate agents?

...What the hell was he thinking? Why was he having rampant terror surrounding his own side? That was not good. Where did the trust go?

It was at that moment that he realized that Axinite had said something to him. "I'm early?" he asked. He didn't doubt it but it came as a surprise all the same. He cleared his throat, shook his head, and tried to compose himself. "My apologies. Everything is... well, if I may, may I ask why I've been called here? I am unaware of what I may have done to merit this summons." That was a lie, he was fully aware, but Axinite had a certain disarming demeanor that had him wondering if there was another purpose entirely to this meeting.

“Oh, no need for apologies. I just wanted to catch up,” Axinite explained patiently. He didn’t seem worked up in the slightest, but it was always best not to underestimate a General King. He walked around his desk and took a seat, smiling again.

“I don’t want this to be an uncomfortable conversation, so please, let’s get settled in. We can get started,” he seemed to want to give Paracelsian time to settle in, but equally didn’t want to waste time or give him the opportunity to worry himself.

“I was going over old files, that’s all. I was hoping we could go over some things, talk about your future in the Negaverse? Aspirations, and all. I just want to check in with you on things.”

"I see," Paracelsian murmured. His file was a bit old, yes. Maybe. "Ah, yes, aspirations... I suppose I should have some of those after being in the Negaverse for this long, right?" He paused, choosing his words carefully. "I suppose, even since my lieutenant days, I've wanted to... clean up the Negaverse, inside and out. Head off trouble at the pass, both from internal and external threats." That much was true, at least. Granted, the definition of "trouble" probably differed between him and other agents, but the point was the same: he was going to find people who would hurt the organization and remove their influence.

Axinite hummed curiously, nodding as he listened. “May I ask, how you would intend to ‘head off trouble at the pass’, as it were? I’ve noticed that you haven’t signed up for an operational branch--not uncommon, of course, but I can’t help but wonder if we might unlock your true potential and help you reach those aspirations. Sometimes the branches can offer specific support, or at least a community that can aid you in your goals.”

Axinite himself still seemed comfortable and relaxed, and the polite smile on his face seemed to imply that he really wasn’t here for any sort of reprimand--only genuine curiosity and a desire to touch base and check in with Paracelsian.

Ah, yes. "How" was the troublesome key word. Careful word choice was vital. "I want to keep closer tabs on our agents. Some of them have... rather worrying ways of thinking. Not so much in terms of senshi sympathy or the desire to defect, but more in terms of how they think the Negaverse should be run. Their methods are inefficient, to say the least." That seemed a neutral enough line to walk.

Paracelsian might have blinked at the notion that he hadn't signed up for an operational branch. He'd been so busy mucking around with the database and doing intelligence-type work that he'd forgotten to actually register for a branch. "Right... the branches. My apologies for neglecting that part. I have been doing some intelligence work with the database and related research, so I think that the intelligence branch would be a natural choice for me." Would he be marked down for that right away? Probably.

“A branch near and dear to my heart,” Axinite said, another smile in place. “No need for apologies. There are many officers who stay in General Operatives. I noticed your intelligence work and was actually going to see if you were interested in becoming more involved, but I won’t force you into anything. For a moment there, I thought you might be interested in Special Operations. Which, I also have some experience with.”

He left it at that, but it really wasn’t any secret that he’d previously been the General King of the branch while overseas.

“I hope you’ll submit a report with those officers who disagree with how we’re running things. There’s a possibility that there’s a good suggestion in there, but for the most part, it’s always good to ensure it’s good intentions and not insubordination. Though, speaking of information. I was wondering.” his eyes were on Paracelsian intently, with something more swimming beneath the surface of his pleasant little smile. “You captured a Senshi not so very long ago, didn’t you? I didn’t see anything of it in any of your reports.”
