With the possibility of her wife and her taking the girls on a trip to see their aunt she needed to know that the earthling population wouldn't try to kill them on sight. There was no way Akel was going to put her daughters in danger. So she needed to test the waters, so to speak. She wanted to see what the reception would be of someone like her. An elarian.

That meant that she would need to leave the forest and enter into one of the earthling settlements. Akeldama had thought that through and decided that since they would be going to the port to get on a ship then she might as well test there. More people and more things to see. It would let her know if they needed to find another way or not. And since she figured people from all over would be there it would give her a general idea of how the other tribes would handle her and hers.

So Akel had left her village and went to the port city. A bit of hesitation at the edge of the woods had her debating on whether or not this was such a good idea but then she took a deep breath and made herself step out. With her spear in hand she headed into the town and looked around at everything. Homes didn't seem too different from what her own people had. The only difference that she could see were the people in it and the large ships. They could make boats but no where near as large as those. While she felt uncomfortable being surrounded by earthlings she didn't seem to shy away from their stares. Akel was proud of her cleanliness and her looks. Let them stare. If that was all they did then this would be alright.

Maritza had never, at any point in her life, desired to see Yael. It wasn't that she was necessarily avoiding it, but rather her life was filled with quite enough travel as it was. When she wasn't flying from Tendaji to Belrea she was on the back of a beast driven cart going to Tale and it was all just so very tedious.

So, when her Captain had brought up the smaller island she'd initially refused. He wanted to seek out other lands and see what kind of resources he could bring back with him to Belrea. Maybe there was a type of ore on Yael that could lighten the load their airships carried everyday? The idea had merit alright, but that didn't mean Maritza had to go with him!

Somewhere along the line he'd dangled the promise of an extended shore leave in front of her, and the mechanic had reluctantly agreed. She hadn't been expecting much when she stepped off the ship, but seeing just how far Yael was from Belrea technologically made her groan. We'll never get anywhere here.

While Captain Marrow plotted their course into the rural outreaches of Yael Maritza busied herself around the port. Even local reception of outsiders was better now than it ever had been there must have been something about her that set them on edge. More than a few skirted away from her, which only served to deepen her scowl.

After a while Maritza started to notice it wasn't just her that was drawing attention. Gradually curious eyes started to turn away from her, and Maritza found herself looking over as well. An Alkidike? No, that wasn't right. She didn't look like Ujana's partner. An Elarian.

The farther in she walked the more she got stared at. As their eyes turned toward her she gripped her spear tighter. Where they going to get hostile? Would they run from her? Akeldama wasn't quite sure what it was they would do. The only earthling she'd met up to that point was a child. Children were innocent by default.

Her gaze darted from one face to the next, judging to see what the expression was. Most seemed surprised, a few showed fear, and others looked suspicious. Akel took a deep breath and turned so that she could look toward the ships themselves. When she did she noticed there was someone among the crowd who stood out like she did. They were not Elarian though. Her head gave a small tip to the left side as she looked the woman up and down. She didn't know what the woman was or where she came from. Information on the earthlings and their tribes was limited in her village as they tended to stay to themselves.

Is this what Pyrrha sees? Has she met people like this? She thought about the sister of her wife for a second. Peering back behind her, mostly to check and make sure there was no hidden weapon ready to strike her in the spine, she looked to see how far she'd come. As she looked forward again she seemed to focus on the bright colored woman more and more. She stood out in a crowd of darker colored people, especially the hair.

"Hard to look non-threatening if you're packing a spear." By that point Maritza was left with one of two options; either talk to the Elarian or ignore her completely. Under normal circumstances she would have chosen the later, but seeing as she had no desire to talk to the weak willed Yaeli Maritza fell into her own curiosity.

The Belrean had raised her voice just enough to make it easily heard no matter how far she was from her target, but the tone wasn't nearly as challenging as it used to be. Motherhood had 'tamed' her; just a bit. Maritza ignored the old man who reached for her arm as she passed, and rolled her eyes when he warned her about getting too close.

She wasn't a warrior by any means, but Maritza could handle herself. Besides, if this woman was stupid enough to attack on her own in the middle of an earthling port then she may as well try.

She heard the words and tilted her head the other way, going to the right this time. Her eyes moved toward her spear and she regarded it for a second then looked back at the earthling woman in time to see the old man reach out to try and stop her. It was interesting to see how the brighter woman rolled her eyes and didn't seem to have the same aversion to approaching her as the others did.

"Who said I was trying to be non-threatening?" Akel certainly had that in mind when she'd come. She only wanted to see what it would be like if she and her family traveled.

To help close the distance, and just to see the expression on the old man's face, she took a few more steps forward to meet Maritza half-way. "Am I scaring you?" She asked out of curiosity more than actually wanting to be frightening.

"My point." Maritza hooked her thumbs on her belt loops and came to an easy stop so the Elarian could close the distance. There was just enough space between them so she could look up without hurting her neck. "You're the size of a tree; the least you could do is cover that thing so the local's won't stroke out." She cocked her head to the side where the old man lingered, his hand settling 'calmly' on a dagger on his hip. A few other yaeli came over to talk to him, presumably to calm the man, but since it didn't look to be escalating Maritza paid it no more mind.

"Should I be?" The lightning woman quirked a challenging brow. From the perspective of someone who had survived an airship crash, a tumultuous pregnancy and a trans-continental move one lone Elarian was hardly anything to get fussy over.

The size of a..? Akeldama looked down at herself then around at the earthlings. Of course she knew she was taller than them but now that it was pointed out she couldn't help but smile. When she looked back at the bright colored earthling woman she laughed a little. "Alright, that's fair." She looked up at the head of her spear then down at her outfit. There was clearly no room for pockets so it wasn't like she had anything on her to cover the spear with. "Afraid I don't have anything."

When she looked back at Maritza she noticed the brow and the question went hand in hand and seemed a bit challenging. Akeldama debated on whether or not to respond in a similar fashion. Given the old man and his watchful eye, however, she opted for a more nice response. "No, I'm just here to see how safe it is to travel." That was enough detail for the time being. No one needed to know she planned to bring others.

"You aren't from this land." An obvious observation. "Did you come from the mainland?" That wasn't where she wanted to go but it would help if she could learn just a little bit about the land. Maybe if she could get some help in gaining a map.

Maritza couldn't help grinning a little now that the ice had been broken. She shook her head a little and looked around. "Give me a tic." She walked over towards a pile of barrels and picked up a length of rope laying atop the closest one. As she walked back Maritza pulled a green handkerchief out of her pocket and handed both to the other woman. "Here, try this. If you need to use it the cloth won't be enough to stop the blow, but at least it might calm them."

Travel? Now that was something she hadn't expected. While she could respect the desire to get out there Maritza had her own concerns about this. Strangely enough, it wasn't even about whether or not the Elaria should leave Yael. Instead it was about how they would fit in the small compartments of a ship, how much gear they would bring, etc.

"I did not; I'm from Belrea. My-" What should she called Uquin? She'd never really given him an official title yet and 'donor' seemed to impersonal. "-children's father is, though, if that helps."

She watched the woman walk over to the barrels and simply seemed to keep her attention on her. Out of the corner of her eyes, however, she watched those around her. They still seemed to be staring. The bright colored one and she made quite the interesting scene apparently. As Maritza came back over with the rope and then pulled out a green cloth she raised a brow. "Genius." She moved her spear so that it was leaned up against her shoulder while she reached out and took both objects from the woman.

As they continued to talk Akeldama moved her spear again, this time leaning it so that the head was pointed at Maritza but wasn't being held in a traditional battle ready way. it was tucked under her arm so that her hands were free to wrap it. As the cloth covered it she wrapped the rope around the bottom slowly. "Interesting. You travel a lot then." That was helpful. She couldn't have asked for a better person to run into. "Is it safe to take kids traveling?"

While the spear's movement didn't worry Maritza in the least, she barely even noticed it, it brought out a defensive murmur behind her. Evidently even those trying to keep the peace had held their breath for a moment and it was starting to get on Maritza's nerves. She looked over her shoulder and whistled, bringing their attention straight to her. When she had it she made a shooing motion with her hand, "I didn't realize Yael was so prosperous that you could afford to stand around gawking all day."

Decidedly annoyed by being on the main strip Maritza motion towards the Elarian. "Are you hungry? There's supposed to be a cafe around here that serves decent tea." Had she ever even been to a cafe? Does she know what the word means? Eh, it's not like it mattered; once she smelled the food she could piece it together.

"I do. I'm an airship mechanic and I stay gone for months at a time. I travel between Belrea to Tendaji regularly." Children, though? "Hrm. I'd say it depends on the age. If you're thinking of traveling with a little little one I wouldn't recommend it; not for that kind of trip."

The reaction that came from the others was exactly why she told her daughter that earthlings were jumpy and easily startled like rabbits. One small noise and they spooked. As the bright woman told the other onlookers to get lost, in a polite way, she finished up tieing the rope around her spear. Akeldama inspected it for a second then held her weapon like normal again

She wasn't sure what a cafe was but she knew what tea was. "Tea is good. I could use tea." Her shoulders lifted up some before she looked more sternly at Maritza. "I am very good with poisons, so do not try anything earthling." It was the whole reason the tips of her fingers were stained black. She was one of the villages best when it came to the poisonous plants in the wilderness of Yael. Even the venoms of the beasts she was knowledgeable with.

Travel plans were an easier topic. "Little little... You mean a baby? My daughters are past that but still under ten winters." Would that still make it difficult?

"I hope they brew it nice and strong here." The last thing Maritza wanted was tea as weak as a yaeli's spine. As someone who usually burned the midnight oil she was used to strong drinks that could generally walk on their own. She wasn't exactly impressed by what she'd found on Tendaji so maybe Yael would be different.

The comment about the poison had Maritza rolling her eyes. "If I was going to kill you it would be direct. I don't have time for poison." She wouldn't know what plants to go for or even a dosage, anyway. She'd picked up the bare minimum from Uquin over the years but mostly to heal, not to kill.

Maritza started to lead the way away from the port and into the city proper. Most stalls were still centered on the catch of the day which gave the air an all together pleasant smell. "If at all possible I would suggest waiting until they've hit their tenth year, and definitely not before their eighth. It wouldn't be impossible, but any trip away from here is going to be exhausting and older children will have an easier time adjusting." Curiosity pulled at her. "Where are you trying to go?"

"Do earthlings make tea strong? I assumed it was mostly water." Akel didn't think they did the same as the Elaria did. Their tea was strong. Rich with flavor and sometimes sweetened. As the bright woman said she wouldn't waste her time with poison she offered a smirk. "Nice." So this one wasn't easily spooked and seemed to have a warrior's mentality. Akeldama didn't use poisons to kill, she mostly used them when she was hunting large prey with a small party. She could make something to slow the beasts or even immobilize them. It had taken years of practice though.

She followed along, looking around and checking the layout of the place so that she wouldn't get lost if she needed to go somewhere. "We might not get the chance to wait." Akel wasn't sure if Pruu wanted to go right away or if she would be okay with waiting for a bit. Would Pyrrha tell them if she was in danger or anything? "I don't know the name off hand. It's an island. A group of Elaria moved there a while back. One of them was my partner's sister." If this earthling could help her obtain a map then it would be even better.

"Mostly water?" Maritza squawked. "I don't know how your people make it, but that sounds like a crime. Why not just throw some flower petals in a pot and drink that? I'm not sure how they make it here, but I can assure you that where I'm from it's a lot stronger than water." Still, that didn't give her much hope. What if she'd already tried some of their offerings and it tasted like mud water?

Maritza led the way past gaggles of chittering yaeli, some that paid them attention and others that didn't, towards a modest little cafe. It had a very homey feel that let Maritza know it had stood the test of time for several years. If her experience with the food industry had taught her anything it was that these types of places served the best of the best. "Ah, so it's to visit family. I guess she's equally worried about her sister and wants to show off her daughters, right?" Maritza had been lucky in that regard. While her children were now growing up away from her brother at least he'd gotten to see them and with her frequent trips to Belrea she could visit whenever the mood struck.

Akel listened to the squawking and chuckled. "No no, you misunderstood bright one. Earthling tea is mostly water. Elarian tea is nice and strong." Just like a warrior.

She eyed the place that they went to with a critical glance before she looked at Maritza again. The questions about the travel made her give a slow nod. "You could say that. Might be more accurate to say our daughters pressured her into taking them." Alizeh and Luleta had been excited to hear about their aunt and when they overheard the conversation about a visit one thing lead to another. Ali plead the case that all of her family deserved to have hugs. She'd even brought out the tears.

"So is this a good place for tea?" She motioned to the cafe with her spear.
