The stars were gorgeous spirits burning brightly against the darkness of the unknown. Lutana let out a wistful sigh as she perched along the cliffs overlooking the ocean, her wild curls whipping about in the ocean breeze. What secrets could the stars hold for her tonight? She could not help but to wonder as she stared across the horizon, her dark gaze brimming with a flurry of questions and ideas. She had listened to so many stories while she was growing up about how each constellation held some deep meaning or even how some people could use the stars to guide themselves both physically and spiritually throughout life. Others like the old wizened lady she had encountered a few days ago along the outskirts of a gypsy camp believed in other ways to tell fortunes that were not as sparkly or radiant. Lutana smirked at the thought, her hand reaching down to clutch at the small rattling necklace of hollowed animal bones that she kept tucked away in the sash hanging by her waist. She did have a fondness for collecting strange things that others may consider gruesome but Lutana was intrigued by those who thought that they could always be used to tell one’s luck or future. It was always curious to see how some of the gypsies they had encountered presented such ideas to villagers and other travelers. Even if it was just a way to get some coin and nothing of true value Lutana was still interested in how they presented their ‘mystical’ arts. Either way she was focused on the sky tonight because the stars were supposed to be especially important at this time or at least that’s what the gypsies had repeated earlier today. They seemed rather intent upon reading the stars that were going to fall from the sky tonight. “I hope they were telling the truth and not lying.” She whispered as she glanced upwards once more, her gaze scanning the shimmering stars for any signs of movement.

It was when she was about to give up it finally happened - the first star streaked across the sky and the sight brought a gasp from her lips. “Oh!” The stars truly could fall across the sky! How was that even possible? Lutana’s gaze widened as she quickly twisted her head back and forth to try and find more shooting stars. Did that mean there was one less star in a constellation? Did they replace themselves or did they come from super far away so that it didn’t even affect their own night sky? Maybe stars were like the spirits that the older lady whispered about? Lutana found herself chewing on her bottom lip thoughtfully. There were just too many options! “I suppose I’ll just settle for making wishes tonight like everyone else.” She was not a trained fortune teller nor an astrologian. The very thought made the girl pout but the disappointment was short whenever another star flashed across the sky. She could wish for good health for her family or for some sort of exciting thing to occur in their near future. Lutana tapped a finger against her lips thoughtfully. “I guess I’ll just hope for a good day tomorrow. Maybe we could find a new friend or something along the way.” They were traveling a lot lately after all. Lutana nodded at the thought, her lips curving up into a sly smile. Maybe they could encounter another group of travelers to play around with since her own coin purse was slowly deflating. Could the stars grant them money? Or what if she wandered the beaches later to look for some of the fallen stars? Could one harvest them and sell them as well? “If anything at least it’s a good start to the new year.” What else could one consider tonight but anything other than a blessing? Oh! Lutana let out a soft gasp as she thought about it. What if this meant bad luck was coming instead? Was the sky crying for someone’s loss perhaps? Could this mean danger for everyone in the area? Lutana shook her head against the thought. Only time would reveal what this event actually meant but for now at least she could enjoy it. Lutana settled back against a tree so that she could relax and watch the rest of the show for the night. If she wanted to make wishes then she would make some and if she wanted to perhaps consider curses then she would maybe do that as well. Who knew?
