Ephrym had decided to grab a few drinks while he stayed the night alone on the Misty Maiden. The captain was sitting cross legged on top of one of the many packed crates with a tankard in hand whenever the first dazzling light streaked across the night sky. “Eh?” Ephrym blinked a few times, took another swig of the amber brew, and then blinked a few more times before registering that he had indeed spotted a falling star. “Would ya look at that?” He chuckled loudly as he gestured his mug towards the sky. It was almost as if the world was giving him some sort of blessing before they went sailing all the way to Kahikana! Ephrym grinned as he kept an eye on the sky to see if there would be anymore stars falling tonight. Should he make a wish? Was it wise to make one? Ephrym’s lips twitched upwards in amusement as he pointed a finger towards the moon. “Yer a bit too bright right now!” Sheesh how was he supposed to see the stars with that glowing over there too? At least the clouds weren’t in the way tonight. Ephrym tilted his head thoughtfully before jumping up. “Ah!” His eyepiece! Ephrym wobbled a few steps, took another drink with some foam spilling out his chin that he quickly wiped on his sleeve, but eventually he made it into his quarters. After filling his mug up some more and grabbing the wooden case, Ephrym managed to get back towards the front of the ship. Removing the brass pieces he quickly held up the eyeglass to an eye and got an even better view of the sky. There! A laugh left his lips as he watched another few stars streak through the sky. How beautiful! Ephrym was delighted as he settled at the front of the ship, his mug in hand as he dangled his legs over the side, his bare feet touching the top of the maiden’s head as he relaxed and enjoyed the show.
His family was surely watching, right? Ephrym could only imagine how his mother would just call the event somewhat pretty and shrug it off because it had nothing to do with agriculture while his father would be doing some sort of amazing display because of it. The two of them were complete opposites yet somehow they had managed to find a balance in their lives that had blossomed into love. Ephrym could only imagine how his actor of a father would be buttering up his wife tonight to try and take advantage of the fateful event. Usually he wouldn’t be home nad would be performing in one of the major cities but Ephrym had received word that his father had returned to the farm to spend some time with his newest granddaughters. There was also the wedding anniversary….right? Ephrym squinted thoughtfully before nodding as he placed the dates together. “Ya better be giving ma a nice dinner tonight with candles or somethin’, Pops.” Ephrym shook his head in amusement as he placed the eyeglass down next to him so that he could lay back and just view the skies for himself without the glass piece. Surely his father would find this to be a romantic moment and try to con his wife into admitting some wishes to the falling stars so that he could figure out the next gift for their upcoming anniversary. Then Ephrym’s sister and her new husband were probably enjoying the sight with their toddlers tonight as well, his more practical sister somewhat more of a romantic at heart than what she usually let on. Even if she didn’t believe that the stars could grant wishes there would still be some awe as she shared the moment with her young family. As for him? Well he was eager to consider this a shining moment to mark the beginning of many successful voyages across the deep ocean. They were sailing soon after all and it was perfect that he could witness such a celestial event before they departed from Belrea. This had to be a good sign, right? Perhaps more practical people like the women in his family….err life in general would believe but Ephrym liked to think that on occasion things could be a bit more magical. Not everything had to make sense in the workings of their world and so he would just keep believing that events like these could be read as good omens. Ephrym found himself yawning as he kept watching the sky for more stars so that he could truly start wishing for the best journey yet.
