Cliche as it may have been, the Negaverse Agent did prefer to work alone. However with her newly minted 'powers' it was safe to say that she would have to involve herself, and others, in the things she would prefer not to. Trust needed to be earned and as she had not yet achieved that in her newest line of work, she had been advised she would have company this evening. Not that she minded, her last encounter with one of her 'kind' had resulted in a rather fruitful evening that had ensured she made one of her better impressions.
Perhaps this evening would be similar, she didn't know who she was meant to work with in the field today, but there was every chance they might provide the same quality company she had received previously. She'd keep an open mind on this one and make her judgements at a later date when she had seen what her companion had to offer. Truth be told she suspected that the feeling may be mutual, but it was better to limit the presumptuous behaviour for now.
This in mind, the woman now rested with her back against the street light. Every now and then she flicked the coin up into the air and then caught it once more, the soft 'shing' ringing out into the otherwise quiet street as she waited for her companion to arrive. This evening she had no great plans, she aimed to be on the hunt once more as she continued with her aims to clean up a particular area of the city. All being well it should prove largely uneventful and they would be left to their own devices.
...Little did she know that she intended to head into a region that was being watched.

It had been a long time since Jadarite had been requested for a mission with someone who was not part of the Argent Industries team. Although, it had also been awhile since she'd been out with any of her teammates. They were much more focused on the office side of things these days. Perhaps this summons was a good sign, as the commanding officers had noticed that she was branching out in a way that her colleagues were not. Perhaps it was a bad sign. She hadn't submitted reports on just how poorly her last few outings had gone, but she was aware that eyes were everywhere. It was entirely possible that someone had decided she was not to be trusted alone. Any babysitting was unnecessary, of course. Jada had already analyzed her actions, considered her mistakes, and come to the conclusion that she was needed to be more careful about picking fights and enraging the enemy. She would do her tasks in the shadows for now and focus on her Infiltration work while she trained. However, she was also not about to complain to anyone about patrolling with this lieutenant. She kept a neutral, polite expression on her face as she arrived at their meeting point exactly when she was scheduled to. Another woman was already there. Good. At least she was working with someone prompt. "Good evening," she said, her heels clicking on the sidewalk as she approached. "I'm Lieutenant Jadarite." She extended a hand.

"Lt. Cristobalite," She straightened and took the woman's hand in a firm shake. There was no point with familiarity at this stage, especially if the first inclinations of this young woman were to start off as someone might do in a job interview. Criss couldn't criticise this particular stance either, it could be a mark of respect for some and she was entitled to provide it with similar.
"I'm going to assume you're my company for this evening to ensure that I don't do anything too questionable?" she continued. Truth be told she had confidence in the manner she conducted herself and she could clean up her own messes, but if rumours were to be believed then there were a few new 'souls' who were less than enthusiastic about what their job entailed. Even to her it made sense to send others out to inspect new blood every now and then, even if the woman seemed to be of a similar rank to her.
"I suppose before we head out I should ask if there's anything you can't do, prefer not to do, all those kind of things," she clucked her tongue and glanced down briefly at the boots in thought. "Just so that we're on the same page and don't catch each other out."

The handshake was firm, the professionalism appreciated. Jadarite gave a carefully calculated smile, one that was approving without being overly friendly. "I hope you weren't planning on doing anything questionable," she said without breaking eye contact. "We're partners for the night, yes, but I wasn't told that I would need to be your babysitter." Her tone was serious, but as she gave the other woman a closer look, she wasn't overly concerned. Cristobalite was collected, serious, and not a child, which was really all that Jadarite could ask for. There was a twinge of pride, though, at the thought that she might have been charged with looking after someone newer. At the very least, the higher-ups must not have thought she needed a babysitter, herself. She did quirk an eyebrow ever so slightly at the questioning of her abilities. "I've been trained in all basic Negaverse duties," she said, the polite smile fading as quickly as it had appeared. She summoned her tablet and squinted at the recent messages. "We're assigned to a basic round of draining and patrol tonight, which is well within my wheelhouse." She turned her attention back to the other agent. "And you? Any specialties?"

"It depends on your definition of questionable, I suppose," Criss replied as she slipped her hands into her pockets. A nod of her head indicated she was ready to set off, walking and talking her more preferred means of communication so that she could at least be efficient to a degree.
"I might be a new face to some, but there are several I have met who prefer a lighter touch and don't tend to appreciate a firmer hand," she added. She wouldn't go so far as to question their methods, or remark on her personal views regarding the choices they had made in pursuing this approach, but reading between the lines would probably have made it clear that she wasn't necessarily a fan of being the nice-cop.
...Parts of this job were not meant to be delicate and to her, pretending you could be the 'good' guy while causing that pain was naïve. They had to be cruel to be kind and they were the only ones equipped to do that job. The benefits would be seen when they were successful, being kind merely delayed that progress!
"So long as you aren't going to start lecturing me over my chosen methods I suspect we'll get along just fine," she smiled wryly. "And I'll afford you the same courtesy as is fitting," she finished.
As for her specialties...
"I suppose you could say that I am best suited to the jobs most individuals are unlikely to feel comfortable with," she murmured after a moment of consideration. "You would be best sending someone like me to conduct certain duties if you have concerns that another might hesitate, to put it simply," she concluded.
"Whether or not I'm destined for anything specific in regards to these natural talents though? We'll have to wait and see," she admitted.

Jadarite pursed her lips. "True. I suppose there are those who think that many of the Negaverse's methods are questionable. I am not one of them." She moved to walk next to Cristobalite, keeping an even pace. "However, it is my job to limit the amount of people who think to question the Negaverse in the first place." The last thing they needed was police constantly constantly getting called on them, or large news organizations finding out that there was something more to the unrest in Destiny City than an increase in gang activity. "That doesn't mean I'm squeamish about the realities of war. Our enemies deserve whatever happens to them," she said. The set of her jaw hardened. She did not buy into the legends about space and invasion that went around, but she knew what she had seen with her own eyes. A good portion of the team of the Witzend mission had been wiped out. Mercy was not an option. "I could care less what happens out of sight or behind closed doors. When I say questionable, I refer to the people who let the power get to their head and start causing scenes or leaving trails of corpses around." She gave the other woman a pointed look. From what she'd seen, she didn't think that was the kind of person she was dealing with right now, but she did not want her to get any ideas. "That's no good for public relations." Then she shifted back to the formal smile, her tone going more conversational. "Have you looked into SpecOps at all? They could use a few more agents."

"We're on the same page then," Criss replied. While she wasn't entirely convinced by the full PR spiel and may not necessarily have been interested in the intricacies of it, she was also aware that even in her normal line of work there were those who cleaned up 'disasters' for certain individuals who lacked tact. As careful as most people may be there was always those who regularly liked to spoil the fun.
"Rest assured I will do my best to keep things tidy," she added with a wry smile.
She began to walk towards her chosen hunting grounds, not that she imagined many would appreciate the term, but it was the reality of the situation. It wasn't far from where they were and given she did prefer to keep a lower profile in the sense that she wouldn't be jumping between rooftops like super heroes, her chosen spot was both functional and convenient.
"And I haven't heard of it," she finally admitted, glancing towards Jadarite with a raised brow. "If only because I haven't quite gotten through all of the relevant training at my disposal," she continued. "An abridged version would be appreciated if you would be willing and then I can investigate it in greater detail if it sounds like something that would be of interest?"
Nearby, a small mechanical bug twitched and silently sent a 'ping' to someone in the vicinity, though for now there appeared to be no signs of the Order in the area...

"I believe you," said Jadarite, still keeping a careful eye on the crisp way that the other agent so much as walked. This was the type of agent that the Negaverse should really try to find more of. At first glance, she was grounded, mature, and comfortable with the realities of war without edging into flippancy. She was almost perfect. Almost. Jadarite's lips twitched into a smug smile upon hearing that she did not know much about the branches. "SpecOps would be the firmer hand, as you put it," she said, keeping pace with Criss. The were quickly coming into a more populated area, and Jada was careful to check any alleys that they passed for any homeless types or gaggles of smoking teens. There was no luck so far. "We all have the responsibility of gathering resources, which comes with the risk of engaging the enemy," she said. Speaking of which, with two of them out, they had double the chance of attracting Order's attention, so Jada watched for auras, too, as they walked. "But SpecOps takes care of any," she paused, pursing her lips for a moment, "Particular issues." She glanced towards another alley, squinting at a figure that turned out to be a trash bag. "I know the leader is called General-Queen Hessonite. She could give you the full spiel."

"Intriguing," She sounded genuine as she stepped into another alley, striding with considerable purpose towards her destination. If it wasn't clear that she knew her way around before then it would have been as she nudged open the door to one particularly bleak building and leaned through it briefly. With no signs of life in the corridor one could only assume that the boys and girls had moved themselves out of sight to avoid any immediate intervention that would come from typical patrols in this area (and she wasn't referring to the chaotic kind).
"I will have to request an audience at the very least, it sounds like something that might well be up my street," she admitted. Keeping certain elements in line and addressing those that didn't was certainly something she was inclined towards. Then again any position of power normally gained at least some of her interest, having the opportunity to call the shots would interest most people.
"Voice down for a few minutes if you don't mind, we aren't necessarily expected but if they hear us they may scatter," she warned as she held the door open and made a small 'after you' motion with her hand. She didn't expected Jadarite to take up the front by any means, but she did have every intention of closing the door quietly once she was inside.
"If you are sensitive to smell I would suggest stuffing something up your nose if you have it." She finished.

Jadarite went silent as they approached the abandoned building. She watched the calm but purposeful way that Cris walked, the way that she opened the door so that it didn't creak and looked around as if she was expecting to see something. It became clear in that moment that the other agent knew the territory. Jada took half a step back, letting Cristobalite take the lead. She was curious what the other woman had found, and about what she was going to do. Although, as she carefully shouldered through the door and took a look around the building that they had found themselves in, she had some educated guesses. She did raise an eyebrow at the smell comment, but she didn't make a move to protect her nose in any way. It was true that she was already catching a hint of foul odor, but even if she was squeamish, nobody else needed to know about it. "Upstairs?" she guessed, eyes flicking around the empty room.

She nodded. While the first floor was suspiciously empty this was normal and expected for this type of place. Being in plain sight was a foolish choice and if any law-abiding individual wander passed then their sanctuary might be exposed. Unfortunately, their existence had been common knowledge within her circles for a while and even if there were more innocent, naive and idealistic men and women who sought to help them... Cris merely saw them for what they were.
She had a job to do and her specifications were very precise, the General she had been assigned to had been clear on this. With quotas to meet and pesky requirements that meant she should not draw attention to herself or others in the organisation, it seemed rather convenient to have insight into where significant hotspots existed. To her these men and women were prey, and while they sought to hide from the prying eyes of law enforcement that also made them vulnerable to her.
Where better to get your energy from than the dregs of society? If one, or several, went missing or simply turned up dead then it was decidedly easy to put it down to their more debased tendencies. For now it was arguably one of the easiest routes she could pick and with a companion in tow it would mean the haul would be much better tonight.
...At least that was the plan.
She came to an abrupt halt as she swept up the stairs, her foot pausing above the last step as that 'ping' she had been warned of caught her attention. She did finally rest her foot down on the last step but had the common sense to cast her gaze in the rough direction she had sensed it. She was new to this and it wasn't an exact science, but she was almost certain that felt like it was in the building.
"We have a guest," she murmured. At least she thought they did, but she wasn't about to admit she wasn't entirely sure she had the hang of that sense yet. If it was a false positive it was still a good idea to be safe, right?

While Jada had her suspicions, she wasn't sure where these people might be in the house, exactly, which meant that she fell into step behind Cris as the other officer made her way up the stairs. Jadarite was less surprised by the aura. She'd felt it, off in the distance, about when they'd first entered the house, but she'd hoped that maybe it was one of the senshi that did not want to cause any trouble, and they'd be on their way. There was no luck on that front. The aura was coming towards them, quickly and directly, and by the time Cristobalite had pointed it out, Jada was fairly certain that they had already reached the house. It wasn't the ideal situation. She still wasn't confident in her fighting, but if it was about to come to that, she was glad to have an ally at her side. She took a look at their surroundings. The stairs that they were standing on, while not in terrible shape considering the state of the house as a whole, were not steady enough that she wanted to fight on them. They were also the only way she saw to get to the second floor. Jadarite nodded towards the landing above. "We can set up an ambush here. Take the high ground." She took a step forwards, right on the other agent's heels. "Just, quickly."

"I'm open to ideas," Criss replied as she began to climb the stairs again. She wasn't convinced that their guest was on the roof, but with her being so green she would have to rely on Jada for a little more clarity on where they might be. At least that was what the woman assumed was possible, after all, with Jada being more seasoned than she then she'd have had a little more practice right?
Criss was capable of going toe to toe with someone in general, but she did need to know where they were coming from. If Jada could point that out then that would be perfect. That being said her companion did have a point and in order to stand any chance they needed to get out of the stairwell and into a more favourable location. She knew that a chunk of them could use magic and if that was the case then she'd be a little too easy to hit in a corridor than she cared to admit.
"So whoever it is, they're below us?" she confirmed as she climbed the stairs. She didn't need to be told twice to move when time was of the essence, but she could still walk and talk.
Fortunately for them both, Athalia was indeed at the bottom of the building, evidently he hasn't chosen to spring across the top of each roof.

Jadarite’s eyes fluttered shut as they reached the top step. Although she had several years of experience on the other lieutenant, she had spent most of that time doing things that did not involve tracking senshi while in cramped houses. For an awkward moment, Jada realized that she did not know if the source of the energy was below or above. Then she heard a footstep, and turned to the other woman with a crisp nod. “Yes. Below,” she said. She stepped forward to the top of the stairs and then to the side, pressing her back to the wall so that she could see her surroundings while being out of the immediate range of any projectiles that happened to be thrown in their direction. “Unfortunately the auras don’t tell us anything about what type of magic the enemy has,” she said, moving her gaze to lock onto the stairs. There was no reason that they couldn’t pay attention while they got their last bits of strategy in. “It seems this one is stronger than us, though. Careful.” Her voice had lowered to a whisper, and with that, she went silent.

It was in her best interest not to get too confident but she had yet to encounter anyone who could take on her new found strength. Even those who were in a drug induced fury found themselves at her mercy, so finding a measure of concern for the possibility that someone might genuinely be more powerful than both of them at once was something that she found difficult. Nevertheless she refrained from being rude, Jada had been at this for longer than her after all and when she took up her position, Criss followed suit.
Meanwhile, that entity that had been below them had already begun to make their way upwards. However on this occasion said entity, soon to be revealed as Athalia, had refrained from entering the building from the bottom and instead, he had made good use of the fact that he transformed into the equivalent of a roided out kangaroo when he called upon his planet. Thus, he had taken to spring upward the wall until he had managed to reach the roof, the occasional 'pat' of his feet easily heard as he traversed his favoured 'terrain'.
He could sense them just as much as they could sense him and just as Jada had known he had the advantage in terms of strength, he was all too aware that on this occasion he might very well be outnumbered. Not that this had ever stopped him before, but he did at least afford himself a brief moment to fish out the small armoured plate for his hand that a certain Mauvian had made for him. After all, if there was one thing he was all too aware of, it was that certain individuals had the capacity to do significant damage to him when he didn't have his magic available and to be very blunt, it had taken far too much time for that wound to heal in his opinion.
Suffice to say if Orias hadn't given him the Mauvian equivalent of a chainmail glove then at this point in his career, Athalia would have bought one himself. Quite frankly he would have been perfectly happy with a protective glove (he could use it in his own kitchen), but Orias had been rather clear about how ugly and generic it looked.
...So here he was, with something a bit more sleek and just as functional.
A small flex of his fingers to make sure that he still had reasonable movement and he finally opened the door from the roof that would otherwise lead down into the stairwell below. Not quite the high ground that Jada might have wanted, but given he couldn't see them and he didn't have sonar, they were still in a comfortable position to get the jump on him.
Mindful of the company he would likely keep, he then began to make his way down the steps towards them.
