Fears are meant to be overcome, but often are hard to do so. What are the fears that plague your character at night? How long have they dealt with these fears, and where did they originate from? How do they deal with their fears, and how does it impact their life and relationships? And will they ever work to overcome it?

[ Spend this World Event working through the fears of your character, either on their own or with some moral support of a friend ]

Tivrod was the closest settlement to Jauhar along the main road. If one wanted to gather enough supplies to brave the rest of the desert a stop was inevitable and so while Tivrod's main business came from it's lumber, trade in general had taken a boom over the years. It was a transient sort of settlement; the kind that didn't hold much in the way of excitement and seemed to thrive on stability. Those that stayed were a hearty breed and those that tended to the traveler's passing through cared little for flattery. In short, it was the sort of earthling settlement that Ai could tolerate.

They may have garnered their fair share of looks as the two wandered into town, but Ai was far from the first alkidike it's residents had seen. While some inevitably remembered the alkidike war many others had been exposed to far too many well meaning faces to think her a danger at first. At best they were tossed an aggravated glance, as if their very presence was distracting, but if anything the body at Ai's side kept any harsher attention off her back. She wasn't alone, she was with an earthling, and that made her 'safe'.

Still, she wouldn't be here at all if not for her swords. Or rather, the hand that held it. Since losing two of her fingers Ai had no end of difficulty when it came to training with her blades. Holding the left was no trouble at all, but the right...She couldn't get it right. So, when the topic of a leather worker who might be able to fashion some sort of hilt extension to help balance her grip was brought up Ai had reluctantly agreed to seek one out.

Except now that she was here, standing outside the shop, watching a rather pudgy Oban move about inside, she found herself reluctant to go in.

Somehow, despite the odds being very much against her, Lucijah was still alive. Days had passed since she made the decision to return Ai's swords, and yet the shifter continued to move along the mortal coil unhindered. Huh. Interesting.

The night before had been quite the occasion, because she had made the rather ill informed decision to tell Ai how close they were to Tivrod. Her work was, technically, done - Ai could continue on, mostly healed and still capable of swinging at least one of her swords. But either the alkidike was eager to keep her guide until her swords were fixed, or - Lucijah was very, very lucky.

Because she was still here, and Ai hadn't dismissed her yet, so Lucijah had continued on like ... it was a normal day, and they hadn't come to a point where, logically, they would split ways.

She'd told Ai they would, when they got to Oba. And here they were. From here, the trek on was relatively painless, wasn't it?

... You couldn't really blame Lucijah for jumping at the chance to extend their little venture just a bit by recommending someone who could adjust her sword... right? It was completely normal to want more time with a homicidal maniac of an Alkidike.

Hands on her hips, Lucijah squinted past the bright Oban sun, then peered sideways at her companion, smiling brightly. "... No? Need to think on it?"

Technically her stint with the shifter should have come to an end by now. All she'd been tasked with doing was to ensure that Ai made it to Oba, but the alkidike had just mentally accepted the fact that she would be accompanying her to wherever it was her sister resided. And that was if the woman was still in Oba at all. So, for all her bite and ferocity Ai had yet to dismiss her pet. Why, she couldn't say, she just...simply hadn't gotten around to it yet.

Still, when she turned to see Lucijah smiling her own features turned into a very much put out grimace. "And if I do? The last time an earthling took my swords I didn't see them for months." There was a very pointed barb to her tone, one that was accompanied with a squinted, darkened stare from her abyssal gaze. Still, it didn't last long and soon enough she was turning back to look at the building.

She needed help, that's all there was too it. To not only admit that fact, but to ask for it from a being she'd deemed lesser for so many years was....embarrassingly enough...terrifying.

"We're leaving."

Oh. Woops. Lucijah's expression was flat, not understanding for a long moment until - Click! - and she got it. Then, her face went sheepish and amused all at once, smiling and raising her eyebrows in a way she hoped was contrite. "You know - in his defense, you'll be paying him to fix them. Doesn't gain much by keeping them from you, does he?" She shrugged, and raised a hand to rub her neck.

Only to perk up when Ai spoke. Before she'd even thought about it, Lucijah was falling into step with the alkidike, smiling sideways at her - at least until a thought hit her.

Ai saying 'they' were going had made her stupidly happy.

... Oh hell no. Realizing this, Lucijah fell behind a few steps, her throat suddenly dry. Ai was marching on ahead, and Lucijah only spoke to direct her on where the best inn (that they could afford) was.

Ai looked over at her shoulder, keen on looking at the shop as they walked away but instead she caught the top of Lucijah's head. When her eyes traveled down, catching that almost happy smile she felt her gaze turn elsewhere. Somedays the shifter was as combative as a radaku when given the last bit of scraps and still, in that same vein of thought, she followed along like a pup.

"Are you sure of that? Do you know that man? He may be a shop keeper now, but you don't know what he was like in his youth." For all she knew he could have a deep rooted hatred for the alkidike, considering what her own people had done to this land so many years ago, and the opportunity to disarm her just to use her own blades against her might be too tempting.

It was... difficult to focus on the conversation, after the realization she'd just been hit with. When Ai turned to face her, Lucijah felt herself blanch a bit, turning her face away to pretend to look back towards the shop, considering the alkidike's statement. "Well no... 'course not." She conceded with a huff, crossing her arms as they walked. "But you need your swords adjusted, and neither of us know how to do it... I'd say wait until you get home to find a blacksmith you trust, but I'm gonna guess you'll want your swords for that 'conversation' you'll have soon." The look she shot Ai was almost accusing, but she didn't speak any more on that topic.

See? Ai leveled the shifter with a derisive head tilt before turning back to the road before her. Walking past earthlings so casually was still something she was getting used to and more than once she curled her lip at anyone fool enough to get too close. The well meaning market goers reacted in one of two wells; by blanching, hurriedly scuttling away from her or immediately bristling.

"It's going to happen regardless of your personal reservations." The way Ai spoke about it was as casual as if they were talking about dinner that night or the weather. In truth she would have preferred to have at least a chibale alk look at her blades, but they'd already proven that she wasn't welcomed there. Zinris was too far away so if she really wanted to get this problem fixed....

Inn in sight, Ai came to a slow stop in the middle of the street and looked back once more, this time with a pensive sort of draw to her brow.

"What assurance do I have that he isn't going to attack?"

... Of course. Lucijah huffed but didn't comment. They'd had that same disagreement time and time again, and she knew that Ai wasn't going to change her mind now. Just like she wouldn't stop intimidating the earthlings around her merely for getting in her way.

It was funny, that she was wary of an earthling attacking her, yet had no trouble antagonizing the people around them.

Lucijah almost didn't notice Ai had stopped until she nearly bumped into her! As for the question - Lucijah flashed a grin and held her fist up, "Because if he does, I'm gonna help you make him regret it!"

Ai made all the same motions of an eye roll without the luxury of a pupil making the journey. Lucijah was going to help her? The thought may have been laughable if she hadn't already proven helpful in the past. Without her Ai would have died; a fact that humbled the alkidike more than she liked to let on.

And as much as she wanted to push the shifter's advice to the back of her mind she'd already come this far...So, with a low grumble and a murmured curse Ai turned on her heel back down the street. "One sword at a time; no more." Beyond the additions that would have to be made to one, both blades were in need of maintenance but she wasn't willing to completely give in just yet. "And the door stays open."

Hah. Amused by Ai's exaggerated body language, Lucijah stayed still, grinning brightly despite the conflict she felt from this entire conversation. She *did* want Ai to get her swords upgraded, after all. But...

That didn't explain the happy feeling she felt when Ai, put out though she was, turned to head back down the street. Was Lucijah just gratified that Ai seemed to listen to her, or - happy that it seemed she trusted her?

Either way, Lucijah bounded along after her, this time walking side by side, a silly grin lighting up her face. "That works for me. After all that traveling, it'll be nice to just sit and wait for a while, right?"

This time the same earthlings Ai had brushed past were in front of her, slowly making their casual way down the street. If they noticed the pair at first they didn't show it and she was forced to slow down considerably behind them. It wasn't as if she was even moving particularly fast; her longer legs just made it seem that way.

And maybe even, subconsciously of course, she'd slowed to accommodate ha Lucijah.

There was something about that silly grin that brought a slight quirk to Ai's own grouse. "Getting lazy on me? You're here to work; not for a vacation." Her words may have seemed biting, but there was something to that tone that suggested she might have been teasing. Might.

Lazy? Lucijah tilted her head, thinking, then nodded, not even taking offense. "If you work hard, you can afford to be lazy sometimes, right?" Ai didn't seem too impressed, so Lucijah elbowed her without thinking, huffing out a laugh, "Don't worry, I'll be keeping a close eye on him, since you asked so nicely."

One more from you and that's a wrap~

"...I guess...?" The alkidike grumbled. In all honesty she hadn't taken any sort of time off in a long time and it very likely showed. The last bit of 'fun' she'd had was before the Elaria were even buds and the alkidike couldn't even remember what she'd been doing.

And then, just like that, she was being elbowed. Without thinking Ai returned the act, only pausing after to think about what she'd done. Since when was she this comfortable around an earthling-?

"You'd better." I'm counting on it. "And if we somehow make it out of this without an incident we can take a while to rest."

Maybe, if she'd had a moment to think, Lucijah might have felt nervous about her overly familiar behavior with the alkidike. But... Ai elbowed her back, and, on top of that... again with the 'we'. Lucijah felt her face heat up, and again that wave of conflicted feelings shot through her. Was it okay to feel so happy to have Ai's confidences? Or should she remind herself that Ai was ... a maniac, and had no issues making that fact clear?

... But - it was a little late to worry about that, right? Right.

"Ressst. That sounds fantastic. Then lets go get these swords of yours taken care of!" Lucijah shot forward, shoving her way past the two earthlings ahead of them, walking so slowly, offering a carefree 'oops, my bad!' by way of apology.
