Fears are meant to be overcome, but often are hard to do so. What are the fears that plague your character at night? How long have they dealt with these fears, and where did they originate from? How do they deal with their fears, and how does it impact their life and relationships? And will they ever work to overcome it?
[ Spend this World Event working through the fears of your character, either on their own or with some moral support of a friend ]
The heavy hood shadowed her face as she watched from the alley, leaning casually against a stack of boxes. Her head was feeling anything but casual though. Bright eyes watched the mansion with trepidation and sadness. Beyond the fence, she could see a nanny watching over a young boy playing in the grass. The little boy was what held her attention, a soft sigh escaping her lips. If she could help it, that boy was the key to her finally having peace of mind in this lifetime. He could very well be the end of her instead, but that was an answer in a future she did not yet know.
Despite trying to remain optimistic, her hands clenched slightly with concern. There were so many 'what if' questions surrounding that child, and it wasn't fair...
It also wasn't safe to linger, either.
Aaricia shrugged her shoulders to slip deeper into her cloak and pushed herself up to move on. She had other things to do than stand there...
While most of Adenah's jobs were done in the dead of night there were special occasions where she was called out under the sun. As with the rest, she was dressed far more casually than normal with a tailored dark cloak around her shoulders. Emblazoned on the clasp was the symbol of the assassins' guild and covering her face was their signature wooden Janarim mask. It's dark, charcoal scales were trimmed in a vibrant gold that in the sunlight drew far more attention to her than she would have liked. It was with that in mind that she kept the hood drawn over her and stuck to the shadows.
What she didn't expect to find was someone else also using the shadows to slink around. Adenah quirked a brow, and looked at the figure making it's way closer to her. It was by sheer luck that she'd noticed the other soul first and for a moment she thought it was someone come to take her mark, but...there was nothing about this person that said 'killer' to her.
Adenah stepped closer and murmured, "Keep walking and don't look back."

The hushed warning made Aari tense up, but that wasn't the way someone coming to catch her would talk. She must have stumbled by something that she likely wanted no part in. Continuing on as though she had heard nothing would have been the safer move. However...
"If you wished for me to pay no mind to you, you should have remained silent," she crooned, peeking out from the depths of the hood. That mask.. Crap. Her hands slipped closer to her waist, making the point that she was someone willing and capable of defending herself if need be. "What need have you to warn me off?"

"You're right, I should have." Adenah gave a breathless laugh that sounded almost like a snort. Her eyes traveled down to the hand moving closer to what she could only assume was a weapon, and Adenah clucked her tongue. "Don't get excited unless you're ready to see which of us has the faster draw." Her voice was still low, barely above a murmur, but far sterner than it had been a moment ago. Normally Adenah was a playful sort, one ready to tease, but on the job she couldn't afford to be so lax.
"Maybe I'm warning you because I don't want anyone else to get brought into this. If you're here to take my mark you're better off dropping out, and if you aren't you're better off never coming back." Adenah's eyes ventured out to the yard where the little boy played and then traveled back to body at her side.

"I would prefer to leave the quick draws for another day," she admitted, though her hand remained close enough to the hilt of the blade to grab if the need came up. Besides, if she was really conversing with a hired killer... Surely the woman wasn't looking for her! Not in this area.
The other's eyes were veiled by the shadows, but Aari was sure she had seen them flick in the direction of the mansion she had just been watching. Honestly, that gaze could have been looking anywhere, but considering the location... "I have every intention of returning at some point. There is someone I am keeping an eye on near here, and I will continue to see to their safety." Her own eyes narrowed slightly. "I trust your mark is not in sight?"

"Then we're in agreement." Adenah commented smoothly. She had never been a fan of close combat, though they needn't know that. Speaking of which, she was deciding fairly quickly that the 'mystery person' under the hood was female, which only caused her to think of rivals that fell into that category. Still, something about the way she was acting made Adenah think they weren't actually rivals at all...
"They are." Adenah murmured. "But I suspect it isn't the same as the one you've been watching. I'm here for her-" She motioned with the barest nod of her head toward the nanny, "-not him. So long as you turn a blind eye this night he'll be safe."

Aari couldn't help how her body physically reacted to the relief. The pulse that had threatened to race now fell back into its more steady rhythm of calm, and her posture clearly relaxed. To think that she could be on the brink of getting so worked up after all this time... When was she ever going to be able to release the fear in her gut?
Well, that alert guardedness had kept her alive thus far. She still needed it. At least until the bounty on her head was fully lifted. This woman seemed to have no idea who she was... and Aari knew it was best to keep it that way.
Sighing softly, she took a step back and nodded. While she would prefer that no one died that night... she had no loyalties to the nanny, and she had lingered too long already.
Yet.. "Will you wait?" she found herself asking. "Please.. wait until the boy sleeps. So many younglings see death so early in their lives. I would prefer for him to be spared from such a fright, and allowed to be a child for a little longer."

So we're not after the same target. The other's relief was painfully obvious. If it had been something tangible then Adenah would have been able to see it float out of their little alcove into the sky above.
"I'm not heartless." Her voice was a low murmur, just barely loud enough to be heard. "I'm here to watch right now; not to kill. It's going to be hard enough for him to grasp that she's gone without having to see it first." Despite her profession Adenah had no great attachment to the act of murder. She didn't relish it like so many others did. When the time came it would be in the middle of the night, with no one else around and it would be quick.
"If you're not here for the woman...why are you here?"

Aari paused a moment, peering at the masked face with cautious understanding. "It's a fine line you walk to have a heart while still taking money in exchange for lives... I pray that line remains secure for your sake." While she herself was in the market for messing with the securities of others, she had never killed anyone before and she intended to keep it that way. She could not imagine it being 'just a job' as she had heard others call it.
Why? Though still wary, she let her posture relax further and turned toward the boy playing. The child wore a big smile while he showed the disgruntled nanny his stained pants. "The boy has the potential to be so much greater than his father, but that also holds the same for becoming so much worse. I hope to see to it that he is guided in the proper direction, though I can not personally attend to his lessons." She glanced back to the stranger. "Wouldn't you like some hope for the future?"

Adenah smirked a little underneath her mask. "You and me both." With every life she took that line became blurrier and blurrier. One day she feared it might disappear all together, but until then she would try her hardest.
"Wouldn't it be better if you could personally influence him, then? Be a positive spark in his life?" Catching herself, Adenah leaned back against the building with a huff. "I know life can be complicated, but holding yourself back won't do any good. If you want to see him be a better man than his father then you should take more care with the people who guide him." Raising a finger, she vaguely motioned to the nanny. "Like that woman. I don't take the lives of innocents so do with that as you will."

Lips pressing, Aari sighed and shook her head. "I wish I could. I truly do." She looked back to the boy and frowned. The nanny had picked him up and they looked to be getting ready to head inside for the night. "I am in no position to do so though. ..If I were able to be more direct, I assure you I would be at his side rather than remaining hidden out here." Lurking like some shadowed demon.. or assassin, as the case seemed to be with her companion. "His father and I obviously do not see eye to eye, and his mother is more concerned about status than morals. Short of kidnapping, he must remain there."

Even though she was keenly aware of the stranger at her side, Adenah's eyes never left the nanny. Her target didn't seem to be aware that she was being watched or she was just good at hiding it from the boy. With any luck tonight would go smoothly...
"Then use some of that hope for your own future." Adenah mused, her attention slowly slipping back to the stranger. "Do what you can, but never remain entirely anonymous. So long as he knows someone is there he will always question and that will hopefully make him a smarter man for it." She gave a little breathless laugh. "Though I would understand if you chose to ignore my words."

Her lips pressed with discomfort, though a smile was hinting through as well. Could she dare expose her identity to the child and risk her father finding out she was lingering around? Would that make things better or worse? "When we are unable to know the future, the next best thing is to hope for it." She gave a small nod. "I appreciate your suggestion, and I will certainly think on it further." Hope had to conquer fear...
Aari turned to head away, but paused once more with a little smirk before continuing on her way. "No offense, but I hope I never see you again~"

7/7 - FIN
"None taken." Adenah raised two fingers to her temple and flicked them in mock salute. She watched the stranger disappear into the oncoming darkness with a renewed sense of purpose. Hope for the future, huh? It was a little childish, but Adenah couldn't say it wasn't a comforting thought.
Hoping for a future where she didn't fear to show her face after dark. Maybe hope for a sense of peace around her soul or a world where people like her didn't exist. It was a fruitless endeavor, but one day...Maybe just one day it could become a reality.
