There are many superstitions and beliefs in Tendaji, often originating from the culture and gods of each individual region. Wherever one goes, they might find a new routine or practice based on the region they are in. However, there seems to be one thing that all Tendaji residents believe in - the power and beauty of a meteor shower.
The rare celestial event is seen as a blessing, and this one just so happens to have appeared right when the New Year began. Oh what luck and what a great omen - this must be a sign of good fortune for the year to come.
[ How does your character react to the meteor shower that is lighting up the sky? How do they see this omen impacting their life and year to come? Explore the thoughts and experience either alone or with a friend. ]

He walked down the street with a lazy gait, one hand in his pocket while the other held a strip of dried meat up for him to chew and suck on. Ilkay was bored and on his way down to the meeting place that all brawlers knew about. Maybe he could watch a fight there or even get in on one of his own. Anything to alleviate the boredom.
As he continued on he caught sight of someone interesting. They sorta stuck out in this town. The purple hair wasn't native. Even if Ilkay and his brother had it. So with a smirk on his face he redirected his feet to head over to the guy. He took the time to look him up and down, taking in details and deciding he kinda liked what he saw. "Hey there sugar, you come here for business or pleasure?" Knowing if the guy was there on a business trip or sight seeing would help him out a little.

With lessons finished for the day Finn was free to meander about as he wished. Most evenings he went straight back to the apartment that he and his brother shared, but the young mage was restless. Adjusting to a 'normal' life was chafing at times. He lived by a routine now that, while good for his overall health, left much to be desired. There was little risk in his current situation and as much as Finn really shouldn't he found himself missing it.
Finn was used to stares; it was hard to ignore them given his appearance. His body was far smaller than any other his age due to a life of poor diet, scars littered his skin and being a yaeli in Oba tended to draw attention on it's own. So, when he found himself initially being looked over, Finn just kept walking...
Then he was stopped and Finn snarled. "I live here." Well, now that was new. The man was speckled like the matori that frequented this part of the city and yet...so much about him looked off.

He smirked at the snarl and took the strip of dried meat from his mouth. "Well that's even better Sugar." Ilkay looked around then back at the guy. "Means you can do a bit of both." Business for work to get money and pleasure to enjoy the day and fun activities. "You have a name Sugar? Mine's Ilkay. Mind going for a walk with me?" He was bored and there wasn't much else to do. "I'd like the company." Even if the guy was a bit snappy he still looked kinda cute. Ilkay had a soft spot for cuties.

"Why do you keep calling me sugar?" He tried to side step away from the stranger, but a passerby blocked him at the last second. While he wasn't exactly blocked he wasn't exactly given a straight path to freedom either.
When he stared asking about a walking partner it dawned on Finn and he clucked his tongue. "If you're trying to rob me you're out of luck. I'm broke." The clothes were tailored hand me downs from Tac and his staff...well, if he so much as touched it Finn would melt his hand into goo.
Why else would a stranger want to spend time with him? What other benefit was there?

He offered another smirk as the guy tried to step away but was blocked by someone else passing by. Ilkay chuckled a little. "Because you've not given me something else to call you, Sugar. I asked for your name." He said with an almost southern drawl. When he mentioned being broke it caused Ilkay to laugh again. "Sugar, I don't want to rob you. I think you're cute and would like to walk with you if its alright." He held his hand out slightly to motion to the street before them as if saying 'after you.'

"Finn," he groused. "My name's Finn." Maybe now he would stop calling him sugar. It was just weird. The only time Finn had ever been given a nickname was when he'd done something wrong or when someone was trying to get something out of him that he didn't want to give...The possibility of a positive connection with a pet name just wasn't there for him.
Now he was laughing and smirking and...the whole ordeal just made Finn's brow furrow. What was happening? "You think I'm cute? Why?" Was he blind? Sure, it was dark, but it wasn't that dark. Maybe he'd been dropped on the head and that's why he looked a little different from the other matorians.
Finn's looks were less hostile now and all the more confused. When the way was clear he started walking forward.

Well at least he had a name now. But he also learned that he didn't like being called Sugar. Being that Ilkay always used the pet name unless he disliked the person it would be odd to change the habit but he didn't want to make the guy uncomfortable. "Nice to meet you Finn." As Finn started to walk Ilkay fell into step next to him. "What do you mean why? Do you not own a mirror?" He could do with moving his bangs a little more out of his face but hey, Ilkay thought Finn looked good. Possibly better out of his clothes but he wasn't about to say that just yet. "So you have the good looks, mind if I discover how charming you are?"

"No? Should I?" Of course Finn heard of mirrors; his tutor had one in his home, but Finn never saw the point. What did it matter if he knew what he looked like? He had a brother; that was close enough. The magus specifically kept his hair long so he wouldn't have to worry with styling it and so long as he was clean generally people didn't say anything about his appearance these days.
Good looks? "...Sure, knock yourself out." As great as the temptation was to cut contact completely Finn was invested. Curiosity pulled him in. What exactly was this man seeing that made him think that Finn was a worthy chase?

"Well Sug-- I mean Finn.. A mirror will show you how cute you are." Ilkay nodded his head. It was hard to call someone by their name when he wasn't mad at them. Maybe after some time he could get back to using the petname with this guy but for now he would have to adjust. As they walked and Finn told him to knock himself out he smirked. "Short and to the point I see." Not a bad thing if one didn't want to waste time. Ilkay saw nothing wrong with that. "Got any hobbies? A familiar? Like to drink? Are you single?" A few questions to start with that would tell him a little bit about the guy, if he answered in more than one word at least. As they walked he kept pace with Finn and stayed right by his side, occasionally looking at him then forward. During one of the times he decided to sneak a peak at Finn he noticed the guy's face was lit up, literally, by a light above them. He looked up at the sky to see what it was then simply grinned and looked back down. "Huh, fancy that. A sign from the gods right as I meet you. You must be a real gift." He couldn't help the charming smile he gave.

"No, no, no, and yes." Even Finn could have guessed that the guy was looking for information, but in all honesty, he didn't have it to give. "Animals are a waste of food unless they're cooked, alcohol is expensive and makes you thirsty, and partners are draining." Maybe that would be a more helpful answer? The few times in his life that Finn had ever drank he'd been very wasted very quickly and his already dehydrated body had reacted poorly to the pig swill he'd guzzled. And to consider him in a relationship was laughable at best.
In one of the rare moments where he looked at the man beside him Finn noticed he was, blessedly, staring at something else. What he hadn't expected was to see his gaze directed upward and Finn found himself looking up too, just in time to accidentally be caught looking at him instead.
Finn wasn't sure if the stupidity of the statement was what robbed him of the ability to talk or the shooting stars above.
"You've been cursed, clearly; you just don't realize it."

The single word answers made him raise a brow. Now that was just unfair. Though he didn't complain. It still gave him a little bit to go off. However, Ilkay grinned when Finn provided more to it. Animals were a waste unless being eaten, noted. The alcohol bit was also interesting. As he looked at Finn in the light of the shooting stars he noticed that the scars on his face were lit up in a charming way. Another smirk was given as Finn claimed that Ilkay had been cursed he just didn't know it yet. "Ah, you are my curse then?" He took a step closer and leaned in so that he could look Finn up and down. Once he brought his eyes back up to meet his, Ilkay gave him a wink. "I may enjoy being cursed then. You are good looking and are kinda charming, in a to the point kind of way." He took the time to look at the details of Finn again as another shooting star passed over. "Would you like to go on a date?" Might as well put the celestial omen to use, right?

Instead of feeling his heart flutter, as most would in such an intimate setting, Finn instantly felt his spine stiffen. He was so conditioned to instantly fighting as soon as someone got that close that he immediately felt a prickle of magic licking at the tips of his hair. For a moment his eyes flashed as brilliantly as the stars above him, until the man winked at him and once again Finn was disarmed.
Just...what the hell was happening?
Was it the stars making him act so stupid? "I don't know what that is." He answered point blank. There was no point in lying, especially if it was going to get him involved in something unpleasant. The way he was bringing it up though made Finn wonder if it wasn't something that was supposed to be good. Maybe he should ask his brother about it later.

He hadn't failed to notice the tension that Finn showed when he'd gotten closer. Ilkay said nothing since he had no reason to. No one had gotten hurt. Of course he couldn't help the chuckle he gave when the guy said he didn't know what a date was. "Oh Sugar- Finn. It means I would like to spend some time with you romantically." It was amusing that the guy didn't know what he was talking about. "Its a good thing." Ilkay had to pause and consider just how much he wanted to explain to Finn. "Usually people hold hands, hug, and/or kiss on dates. Its a way to get to know them more personally." There he snuck in another wink. It was habit.

Romantically? He couldn't help looking above him as the stars seemed to slow, taking their impressive light display with them. Maybe it was their influence as to why he was acting so weird, and giving this man a chance instead of bailing out completely. Or maybe it was because he'd started to remember seeing a few couples out together in town and they usually always stopped for food.
Finn could put up with an idiot for free food.
"Fine. Then we'll go on a date. Tomorrow meet me here after they light the street torches. I have work until then." He may have wanted something earlier, but Finn didn't have that kind of time to spare. It was either this or nothing at all. "No touching. If you so much as think about holding my hand I'll melt it off."
With one last quizzical look and a speculative sneer the at the wink Finn slipped away into the night.
