It was the New Year and Danika was extremely busy with meetings and helping to bless new families. The mystic found herself scurrying about the island, her heart extremely full of love and hope for the new mothers on the island and yet something seemed to be missing for herself. It was hard to explain but there was just something nagging at the back of her mind that wouldn't leave no matter how busy she was during the past few days. During the celestial event many had gathered around the new tree with their hopes and dreams for the future but now that the New Year was actually upon them it seemed that even more Sisters were adamant about their desires as they burned incense and left trinkets near Azehra. Admittedly Danika had left a few offerings herself, some shells and other hand carved trinkets that she had crafted during her free time but it was more so to bless all of their Sisters and Cousins for the New Year. Many letters had poured in from Chibale and Danika was delighted to hear that the other island was also thriving while preparing for the upcoming year. In fact the only surprising thing was when she realized that while she was helping the Sisters with Azehra there were actually additional blooms by her roots.
"Who do you belong to, little ones?" Mused Danika as she walked slowly towards them. Crouching, the mystic reached out a hand to lightly touch the new buds, but surprise unbalanced her and she found herself sitting down with a soft gasp. Was....was this even possible?! "Truly, Azehra?" She asked in a quiet whisper as she clutched her shaking hands against her chest in pure bewilderment.

Vermina was walking with a full basket of knitting that she had finally completed. It was the time of year to appreciate what they had and give their blessings and wishes to the goddesses for what might come. Each little project in her basket was a prayer. May the younglings of Azehra grow healthy and strong. May the peace on Chuime continue to flourish and spread. May the daughters of all of Aisha's seeds find unity. May her own daughters calm down enough to become respectable Aishans! May she and Danika be blessed with more blooms...
She rifled through the basket as she walked, pulling out the two small knitted blossoms that she had made. Of all the new year wishes.. this was what held the most trepidation for her. Would they be deemed worthy of Azehra's daughters, or would they eventually have to leave in order to expand their family? Feeling bashful for such focus, she set the blossoms back down and turned her attention to all of the other wishes the basket held. There were so many possibilities for the new year.

Once she had gathered her thoughts Danika set off to find Vermina. The Alkidike mystic remembered that her lover also had gifts for Azehra and she was hopeful that meant Vermina would be nearby. Now that the initial shock had worn down a little bit there was a gleam of delight in her gaze, a slight spring to her step as she walked briskly around the tree and greeted other Sisters. She hadn't told anyone yet as she was saving the revelation for Vermina's ears first but it was so terribly hard to not spill the news. Thankfully Danika was well trained with keeping secrets and some form of poise so for the most part she managed to get her greetings and blessings in without stumbling over her words. Danika was placing a small gemstone received from a younger Sister when she finally spotted Vermina walking along the path.
"Vermina!" Danika called out her lover's name almost like a rushed whisper before glancing about to make certain the area was empty and then darting forward towards the other Alkidike. "You're here!" Perhaps her poise was a bit lost with the flush of excitement coloring her cheeks, the rushed movements fussing up her dreads and her own outfit ever so slightly skewed something which thankfully was limited considering that she was wearing leather leggings and only a tunic since the weather was warmer today than the previous weeks.

When Azehra's wide branches came into view, Vermina was walking quickly. She had bumped into a couple sisters on the path there, and was intrigued by their observations of Danika's mood. What was it that apparently had her mate so cheerful that the others felt it worth commenting on? She was definitely curious!
Then Danika came into view, and Vermina could practically see the energy radiating from the blessed mystic; and the visible energy only increased when she was spotted. How cute! Chuckling lightly, Vermina reached out to straighten a few of those long dreads that had gone askew. "I am. Are you alright? You seem quite excited about.. something." She held her basket up into view. "Might I deliver the gifts while you tell me?"

Danika was glowing with energy. "I am fairly happy indeed." She replied with a smile as she patiently allowed Vermina to fix her dreads. It was hard to stay still though considering the happy news that threatened to spill from her lips at any moment. She wondered if Vermina could hold onto the basket should she tell her the news at that very moment and so Danika decided to wait a moment more. "I suppose I could follow you first and then share the news if that's okay?" She asked with a slight tilt of her head as she contemplated the best way to share the news

Well, this was certainly curious. "If you wish. It should not take me long." Her free hand reached out to take Danika's and linked their fingers together to walk back to the tree's base. "I am relieved that I was able to get these done in time for the changing year. I hope Azehra does not feel too put upon with all of these wishes she is surely receiving." She knelt down at the tree's roots and pulled out each trinket. A cloth star, a knitted shirt, an embroidery covered with symbols of prosperity and peace, and more were set down with a little prayer.
Finally, she kept her face bashfully averted as she pulled out the two blossoms. She bit her lip and set them down tenderly. Maybe... She looked up at Danika with a smile, trying to pass off the final gifts as something not for herself. "Ready."

A sly smile crossed Danika's lips as she listened to Vermina's words. "I would believe that she is very happy to answer all of the wishes for this new year." She began as she followed along and watched Vermina pull out the offerings. So many had already accumulated at the base of the great tree, the colorful trinkets nestled together in baskets and all around her roots. Danika reached out to touch one of the glass bells that a Sister had left around the roots and smiled whenever the delicate chiming noise filled the air. The others would later put up the gifts and give them away to Sisters who were receiving new blooms as to help with their growing families. Other gifts, such as the bells, would be kept around Azehra to decorate the paths surrounding the great tree.
"Ready?" Danika repeated quietly as she squeezed Vermina's fingers. "You left your gifts but do you have any more wishes or goals for this new year? So many Sisters have already asked for much but it appears that Azehra is more than willing to do her best to bless them all." Danika already knew the one wish that was on Vermina's mind and she was preparing herself to lead her lover around the tree so that she could introduce her to their new blooms.

Vermina stood and brushed the dirt off from her knees, giving the score of gifts another look. So many wishes... She was looking forward to seeing what little families would be making use of them once Azehra had gotten time with each gift. Her bashful smile rose and she shook her head. "There are so many things that I could wish for, but I made sure that the ones closest to my heart have had gifts made for them." She looked back to Azehra's roots. "We have such a blessed life as it is.. I asked for the ability to improve my own skills. I.. wish to support you more, and do more with the community." She blushed and brushed a few dreads from her eyes. "Do you have any wishes that you wish to add?"

Danika could not help but to appreciate the beauty of Vermina's pure spirit. It was her kindness that had warmed Danika's heart towards her so much in the first place and even now her lover was always thinking of helping others. "I would believe that my wishes are similar. I want the best for everyone on Chiume and the other islands." She replied with a gentle smile. "I just want peace for everyone and to see our Sisters and Cousins grow in numbers and love." Her gaze went towards the little lotus blossoms that Vermina had crafted for Azehra and her smile grew. She truly just wanted the best for their world. How could she ask for anything more? Aisha had allowed her to travel further than she had ever imagined and her dreams of acting as guardians for this world and of coexisting with the earthlings was becoming reality. She had a beautiful family which made her heart swell with both love and pride despite the occasional tricks from their daughters.
"I believe I should show you the gifts that Azehra has given us for this new year..." She whispered finally as she squeezed Vermina's hands and tugged her along after her and around the roots of the great tree. There tucked away from the others were two delicate blooms, their petals tightly closed around the darling spirits that Danika and Vermina would call daughters.

How had she gotten so lucky to find such a kindred spirit to call her own? They had their differences, but the intentions were always the same in the end; they just wanted to help make the world a better place. It gave her so much hope that each new year to come would be better than the last! "If you had asked me years ago, I might have said peace would never happen; at least in our lifetime. Yet, here we are, dipping our toes into the shallows."
Her head cocked when she was guided to another area of Azehra's roots. "A gift?" A brief hope fluttered through her mind, but she was almost afraid to entertain those delicate wings. Then she was lead to two blossoms growing healthy and strong... Her stomach twisted into a joyous knot, breath catching in her throat as she turned to Danika with wide eyes. "Is it.. truly?" The fluttering hope suddenly grew wings sturdier than leather and carried her joy up into the clouds above. She leapt at Danika with a laugh, wrapping her arms over the other's shoulders. "Truly?!"

"Agreed." Danika found herself smiling as she remembered her own doubts about peace. Even now she was still a bit anxious whenever it came to trusting their estranged cousins but for the most part things did seem to have settled down. The treaty was there and they had pushed the Dretch back into hiding...it appeared that the world was at peace indeed. Of course nothing was perfect and conflicts still existed but at least there was no devastating war ravishing their homelands and Aishans weren't openly killing earthlings as groups. "I hope we can enjoy it for the next century or longer." She mused with a small smile before they reached the true destination where their gifts from Azehra awaited them.
Danika found herself laughing in turn as she wrapped her arms around Vermina and swung her around. "Truly, truly!" She repeated in delight as she squeezed her lover tightly before setting her back down near the blooms. "I was completely amazed this morning when I found them growing to the side like this. Truly I was not expecting such a blessing but I suppose the great trees are out to constantly surprise me." She admitted with a slight flush as she reached out and touched a finger lightly against the silken blooms of their daughters. Danika wanted Vermina to be happy and did not wish to deny her of that wish all those nights ago but she had been hesitant. But who was she to judge Aisha's will? Warmth spread in her chest as she studied the blooms. Truly she did not deserve so many blessings but she was forever grateful to both trees for their kindness. "Healthy daughters who will be blooming within a few weeks..." How long had they been hiding here on the side like this? It had been long enough to even escape Danika's notice for a few days!

She was fairly certain that anyone looking at them would see her standing a foot off of the ground. Even though she had been set back down and felt the firm earth under her feet, she was certain that she was floating. For a moment, even her breath was whisked from her lungs while she watched Danika touch the blossoms and confirm for her that they were actually there. She gasped in a breath and leaned in to gently stroke the blooms. "Thank you, Azehra. Thank you, Aisha."
It was absolutely incredible! In that moment, all doubts seemed to be washed away like leaves falling into a swift river. "I wished to become more involved with the community, and Azehra has more than provided. Perhaps it is time to pray that these two are a little more peaceful than their sisters." Hopefully, Briallen and Faenna would be excited to hear the news! "There have been so many signs. This year is sure to be something special, isn't it," she observed, beaming happily.

Danika nodded happily. "I believe that this year will be something special indeed." She mused quietly as she too thought about their other daughters. Hopefully Briallen and Faenna would be delighted to have sisters. She just hoped that they didn't teach them too many of their tricks! Vandrea and Alkidike siblings...what an interesting twist of fate indeed. "I suppose we shall see what happens once our blossoms bloom into daughters. I would love to raise them by Azehra and show them to Aisha one day in the future as well." For now she was just content to take it day by day as they entered the new year. Danika just prayed that Aisha would continue guiding her along this surprising yet wonderous path that she had laid out for her.

It was impossible to not be excited for the year to come. It was going to bring about new challenges and new joys and new excitement and so much growth in so many ways. She slipped her arm around Danika's waist and squeezed gently. Having such blessings to start the new year was a wonderful feeling. No matter how it progressed and changed their lives, at least she knew she would be able to face it all with Danika and the love of her family...
