Celestial Omens

Solo or RP Format
Counts as 5 RP growth Points
Solo word minimum is 750, RP post minimum is 7

There are many superstitions and beliefs in Tendaji, often originating from the culture and gods of each individual region. Wherever one goes, they might find a new routine or practice based on the region they are in. However, there seems to be one thing that all Tendaji residents believe in - the power and beauty of a meteor shower.

The rare celestial event is seen as a blessing, and this one just so happens to have appeared right when the New Year began. Oh what luck and what a great omen - this must be a sign of good fortune for the year to come.

[ How does your character react to the meteor shower that is lighting up the sky? How do they see this omen impacting their life and year to come? Explore the thoughts and experience either alone or with a friend. ]

Hyten had been nearly bouncing in his skin all day. There was talk of a special something happening tonight in the sky and he had to see it. He was nearly pulling Faylen out of their house in Tale as soon as the sun had fallen below the skyline. "I swear it's gonna happen soon!" He yelled out. He had no idea what time it was for, but it was dark, so it had to be soon enough right?

Their parents had told them that there was supposed to be stars falling from the sky tonight and that it was very special because it only happened once in a while, and on top of that it was happening on the new year. It was something he just had to see. "Can you see anything yet?" He was absentmindedly tugging on Faylen's arm as he spoke, pointing up at the sky for his younger sister.

"I'm coming, I'm coming!" She said at his tugging, trying to keep up with him. She had at least grabbed a blanket for them to snuggle in while they watched this event that she didn't quite grasp how rare it was. Her hair was half coming out of it's ties by now, after playing all day.

Mainly Faylen was excited because of everyone else's excitement. Once outside, though, she glanced up with her eyes wide and 'peeled' as she'd say before shaking her head. "I don't see anything yet! What if it doesn't start for a long, long time?!" Would she fall asleep and miss the magical moment? She really hoped not. Or if she did that Hyten woke her up.

Hyten’s smaller sister came out with a blanket and her eyes wide, looking to where Hyten pointed. It was good of her to grab something for them to sit on.

”Here! Let me do it.” Hyten offered, pulling the blanket out of her arms and laying it on the ground for them. ”It’s not gonna take a long long time, I just know it.” He answered her. It had to be soon, it was gonna start any minute.

Hyten patted the blanket next to him and plopped himself down, staring at the night sky and willing for the meteor show to happen. And the fates had aligned themselves for the pair because only a few minutes later specks of light started to streak across the sky, only a couple at first, and then there were more and more and they were brighter and larger streaks, and some of them with color, and it was probably the most amazing thing Hyten had ever seen. All he could come up with was a whispered ”Whooaaaa...” while he watched, his own eyes as big as saucers.

When Hyten took the lead, she pouted a little. She'd wanted to set the blanket! With a huff, she moved to help at least straighten up the edges so she could feel helpful. With that done, Faylen grinned at her job well done and then plopped herself down next to her brother.

Her pale eyes went wide at the first streaks in the sky and she couldn't help the squeal of pure joy.

"So cool...." She wasn't as quiet as Hyten in his enjoyment.

"How come this doesn't happen all the time?" Faylen would love to see falling stars every night. It was pure magic how it happened. The stars were so bright, and to think they could do this?

"Where do they go anyway? Are they coming to play with someone, do you think?"

Hyten grinned to his sister as she also stared at the stars overhead. ”I dunno. Maybe we can ask mom and dad why. Maybe they’re already playing.” Hyten offered. ”There’s so many of them maybe they’re playing tag.” He laughed at the idea of all these stars chasing each other.

”It’s just the biggest game of tag ever.” He threw himself back to lay on the blanket with an ‘oomph’ and looked up at all the streaks of light in the sky and the motionless stars around them. ”Do you think you have to be invited to be a shooting star?” Hyten asked his younger sister out loud.

Faylen loved playing tag. Her eyes lit up and went wider before she nodded like a bobble head.

"They're probably the best runners! Look how fast they move! You have to be invited, yes." That was really fun to imagine. How fast they had to move to leave a magical trail like that... She wanted to be like that, fast, beautiful, magical.

Slowly she lowered herself to the blanket to just watch, the smile on her face never fading.

"I'll be invited one day."

Hyten gently pushed his sister playfully. ”I meant do you think the stars have to be invited to be shooting stars. How would you even keep up with them?” He teased. There was no way people were allowed to be shooting stars. How would they even get up there?

After another few minutes the shooting stars began to be less and less until it was just the normal night sky again. It looked like the meteor shower was over. Hyten sunk his shoulders and sighed. ”It looks like it’s done.” He pouted.

Faylen giggled when she was pushed and just stuck her tongue out at her brother. Finally she settled back to look up at the stars and sighed happily. It was honestly such a pretty sight. The prettiest sight she'd seen in her entire life! Maybe not as pretty as her mom when she smiled, but close.

But then the stars started not showing up and her brother said it was over. A frown came to her lips before she sighed and continued to lay in her spot.

"It's.... not just taking a break?"

It was honestly, probably completely over, but she didn't want it to be. Even if her eyelids were getting heavy, she wanted to stay up and see if there were more.

Hyten shook his head, his wavy hair bouncing around him. "No... it's over." He sighed so very disappointed and then rolled over onto his stomach on the blanket, closing his eyes.

"I wonder if we can ask really hard for the sky to do it again next year." He thought mostly just out loud to no one in particular. They said it was really rare, but maybe if they thought about it enough the sky would notice and do it again.

Faylen mimicked her older brother, rolling onto her own stomach, pillowing her head on her arms.

She didn't think it was a silly thought. "Well, I think if we ask enough it's gotta give in, right?" Their parents certainly did. Not all the time, mind you. Still, her feet went up in the air and she kicked them gently back and forth. ".....Think we can sleep out here?"

Hyten knew for sure that his parents wouldn’t like that. ”I don’t think so. They told us to come back after it was done.” His parents were kind of pushovers but staying out in the woods for the whole night seemed like a stretch.

”Maybe we can just stay here for a few more minutes and then go home.” He suggested. His parents probably wouldn’t know the difference, right? It only took them a few minutes’ walk to get home anyways and all they brought was a blanket. It shouldn’t be too hard to get home before they noticed that it was taking longer than it should for them to go home and go to bed. After watching the stars he was barely tired at all now.

A few more minutes then. She sighed and stayed where she was, staring up at the sky that seemed so motionless now. No less big, but not quite as exciting.

"Even if we couldn't play with the stars," Faylen said, almost a whisper, "doesn't mean I can't try to be as fast as them. They were so fast." And the trail of light behind them? It reminded her of her mother's hair, honestly, especially on windy days. It made her smile wide.

Maybe she could wear something like a cloak that would give her something similar.

"I think stars are my favorite thing now!"

Hyten shrugged from his seat on the blanket. "Stars are pretty cool." Especially when they looked like they had in the sky.

Hyten puffed out a deep breath and stood up on the blanket. "We should get going before mom and dad start to worry." Hyten brushed dirt off of his rear and offered his sister a hand. "That was so cool though, maybe next year there will be another one." He commented, half hoping it would be true.

She still didn't want to go, but she knew he was right. So with the heaviest sigh her little body could muster, she grabbed his hand and got up with his help.

"Yeah, I guess so. Maybe there'll be more cool things soon." Faylen just really liked being more active than not. "I hope we don't have to wait a whole year!" She pushed blond hair off her shoulder and then followed her brother. She would watch the sky until she absolutely couldn't anymore.
