Another year has passed in Tendaji, meaning a new opportunity for the residents to accomplish their goals and dreams. Typically, this is a time for setting promises to oneself and others on what to do in the year ahead. There are many different superstitions on how to make a New Year's Wish: some toss their written wishes into the sea, others will burn them at a shrine, and even more will whisper them to representatives of the gods.

No matter how one goes about doing it, all will take the time to ensure that their wishes and promises have the best chance to come true in the New Year.

[ What is your character's promise for the New Year? Go about their practice of setting their goals and dreams in the way they feel is most important. Maybe they go to the shrines, or wish under a star, or honor the god(s) they follow. The goal of this World Event is to make a wish for the next year however your character chooses fit. ]

While waking up at the sanctuary was nothing new to the huntress, rolling over stark naked and seeing Zyphire certainly was. It was late enough into the morning that she could hear noises down below and from the look of things they were in some kind of hayloft. Sylvirah groggily sat up to try and get a better gist of her surroundings. She could see bits of clothing scattered all over the place, with a blanket tossed haphazardly over them and memories of yesterday came trickling back to her.

She looked an absolute mess. If the hay in her knotted, bedraggled hair wasn't enough of a sign then the marks surely would be. Turning away from the loft, Sylvirah looked back to Zyphire with a smile. The iceling slowly lowered herself back down, but instead of curling up next to him she leaned forward to bite at his ear.

Mmm. Zyphire was accustomed to waking up in various places whether alone or not but today he felt especially content even with hay all around them. He had been half awake but the sudden bite at his ear gained his attention and the Shifter's silver gaze snapped open. "Hey." He warned though his lips were curled upwards into a playful smile as he moved forward as if to pin her down. "Careful there unless you would like to lose track of the morning..." Zyphire didn't even hesitate or wonder if last night was a dream, not with the living proof right next to him. If anything he was delighted to wake up next to the gorgeous iceling who excited him.

"Hmm?" She questioned playfully and nestled down into the hay at his side. Sylvirah may not have relished the feeling of scratchy straw against her bare skin, but at least it was warm. "Sólin er þegar komin upp; the sun has already risen. The morning has already been lost soooo..." She reached out, completely prepared to spend her day in the loft, when she heard more noises from below.

Sylvirah paused and tried to remember what this loft was over exactly. Some sort of pen? Or was it a storage shed? In her hesitation Sylvirah was 'attacked' and pinned against the hay, pulling a surprised laugh out of her. She raised one hand to smack against his chest. "You tungl djöfull. If I didn't know better I would say you wanted us to stay here all day."

Zyphire wiggled his eyebrows. "Well I do know better and I would love for us to stay here all day." He replied as he hovered right above her, his gaze bold as he took the time to fully admire Sylvirah. "I'm afraid to ask what you just called me though but I'll take it." A chuckle escaped his lips as he teased her, his lips trailing along her cheek and down towards her neck before more noises below got his attention. Zyphire lingered a moment longer, his lips pressed lightly against the hollow of her throat, but within a few moments he let go so that he could back away and gather his clothing.

"I suppose another round will have to wait." The Shifter huffed as he blew a stray strand of hair from his face. The last thing he wanted was to explain the situation to any of the teens lingering around the sanctuary or worse his cousins. After pulling on his leathers, Zyphire paused and tilted his head to listen for any earthling based noises. "Seems like it's just some of the animals stirring around in their stalls." He blinked thoughtfully, a frown crossing his features before he opened his mouth in realization and glanced at Sylvirah. "Most of them may be getting ready for the festivities in town....it's the new years today, isn't it?"

The iceling raised her leg to bring it up around his hip, angling herself just that much closer to him. For a moment she was willing to ignore the sounds below and focus on this, but when Zyphire wavered she knew it was over.

Her honeyed gaze followed him as he meandered about, lingering in places she really shouldn't, before Sylvirah finally moved to rise herself. Someone needed to check on Ada, anyway; even though she was sure his cousin already had Sylvirah knew her chiavi wouldn't be calm until she came to visit. She found her leather britches and started the process of shimmying into the skin tight clothing. "I think so? Is that important?"

"Well you do know that I'm a man of many talents." Zyphire joked lightly as he pulled his tunic over his head and tugged it into place. "Sometimes I help with food for the occasion but I think most are going to the festival itself. What about you? Do you feel like celebrating the new years together at some festival or well..." His voice trailed off as he gestured between the two of them. Even though his feelings were honest the whole situation was still a bit more complicated than most. What did they do going forward? His silver gaze studied Sylvirah thoughtfully as he reflected upon their recent interactions. No, he definitely was not willing to give up all of that so easily.

"I suppose we should figure things out soon enough. Ada will be good to travel within a couple of weeks."

Somehow the image of Zyphire cooking was as amusing as it was heartwarming. It was a domestic side of him that she hadn't gotten to see yet and a talent that she didn't often associate with him since he didn't talk about it much. She'd only recently learned he could cook at all since coming to stay at the sanctuary.

"I've never been to a festival before." Sylvirah slipped her tunic over her head and reached back to pull her hair through the collar. "I think it would be fun and... we could go together." As if her intentions weren't made painfully obvious before the huntress wanted to lay it on a little thicker. Would he still want to spend time with her outside of their activities? She wouldn't stop him if he chose that path, but she also couldn't say it wouldn't hurt.

That's right...when Ada's better, I'll go back... That...was enough to sober her. She tugged her leather vest over the tunic and fiddled with the straps as she talked. "It's in your hands. You know how I feel, but it's not as easy as it would be if I were free."

"Wait...you haven't been to a festival before?" Zyphire gasped at the thought, his hand fluttering towards his chest in disbelief as he stared at Sylvirah. "We must remedy that together." Despite his playful antics the Shifter was serious with his intentions. Why would he hide something like this here? They would have no choice but to be more careful in the capitol but in his own home? Zyphire felt too comfortable to worry in such a familiar area that was far away from the main city.

His playful expression shifted though as she addressed his question and the swordsman nodded somberly. "Murder is out of the question, right? Of course it is." Zyphire replied before letting out an exasperated sigh. Out of all the situations to get caught up in this was one that he had never thought possible. A bit of flirting here and there with some taken beaus but never anything serious like this. "Damned if I do and damned if I don't..." He muttered as he glanced about the room before returning his gaze towards Sylvirah. "We both know how we feel so it would be a shame to just ignore it. Maybe once we return to the city things can be better sorted then? You have your village to worry about for now." He knew how important those earthlings were to Sylvirah and despite being a brat at times Zyphire knew better than to prioritize himself above so many others in need.

Sylvirah rolled her eyes at the dramatics. "When would I have had the chance?" She hadn't been in the south long enough to really experience their celebrations and whenever one had cropped up she wasn't exactly invited along.

As he mulled it over Sylvirah meandered about the loft, picking up bits of discarded clothing and either handing his over or pulling hers back on. By the end of it she was more or less put together. Her hair would need some work, as would his most likely, but with any luck there wouldn't be anyone around to question it. "Once things are settled with the Ild'vann we can straighten this out." And she planned on it. As honor bound as she was to Gunnar she was starting to wonder if there wasn't another way to do this without him. If she owed the man nothing then maybe he wouldn't be as upset when he found out the truth... "Until then that sounds like a good plan. I don't see any reason why things between us would have to change."

Her people came first, but once Sylvirah was sure of their safety then maybe she could work on her own happiness.

"Oh, wait-" Sylvirah raised her hands and pulled at her braids, separating the thick blue hair until she found one particular metallic bead. She gently worked it free and handed it over to Zyphire. "My grandfather gave this to my mother when she returned from her first hunt and when she died he gave it to me. There are runes carved into it that represent a fresh start; a new life. You don't have to wear it, but I want you to have it."

"That sounds good since it'll give you time to think on things once the supplies are delivered." Zyphire knew that he was bothered by the situation because of his interest in the iceling woman standing before him but he also knew that he would be against it even if he weren't involved. His own history made his stomach turn at the thought of someone having to make such a deal just to survive. It wasn't right and he was completely against it, especially if there could be another solution to all of this. At least we're in agreement on sticking through this together.

His fingers curled around the bead and Zyphire studied it thoughtfully. "It's lovely...I'll take good care of it." The Shifter smiled towards Sylvirah. "Though I guess I'll have to try and think of what I can give you to hold onto as well." He held the bead against his hair. "I could always go with a braid or two myself." Zyphire teased lightly though he was honestly touched by the gift. No one had ever given him something so important before. Even if he didn't want to openly admit it the Shifter was touched and would cherish the bead.

"Don't worry over it; I'm not the kind of girl who needs gifts." How many had she seen flitting around Zidel, prattling on and on about meaningless trinkets their spouses had been coerced into buying them? The fact that he wanted to spend so much time with her was gift enough. Her gift to him was...a sort of promise to herself, that despite her ties to Gunnar that Zyphire was where she wanted to keep her interest. That one day she would set this right.

It was a physical, visual representation of her desire for a new year and a fresh start.

"A few braids, some thicker fur, maybe a beard, and you would blend right in." She grinned and reached up to run her fingers along his jawline as she passed. There was no way he would stand out among so many thick, burly icelings...not a chance. Sylvirah walked over to a ladder propped up to descend onto the main floor. "Fyrsta skipti sem afi minn sér fölan rassinn þinn yfirgefa tjaldið mitt dautt." Looking back to him the iceling couldn't help laughing at her own works before grabbing the ladder and starting her way down.

"What do I need to bring to the festival? You mentioned cooking before; should I prepare a dish?"

Zyphire raised a brow before nodding his head. "Fair enough. I suppose I can make it up to you in other ways." He teased lightly before pursing his lips at her own teasing. "I don't think I'm too fond of the beards but I can always do the braids and furs." He shifted his shoulders as if posing like some finer gentleman in the city, the lot of them covered in expensive furs and golden jewelry. Zyphire was too fond of his face to cover it up with anything after all.

"Hey! I know some Zenan!" Quipped Zyphire from behind as he started down the ladder after her. I can always spew some of my homeland towards her. He thought with a grin before her question got his attention. "We could bring something but that's optional. We could always buy things from merchants instead so that we can enjoy the views." He mused thoughtfully though it was tempting to show off in the kitchen with the woman he liked. Either way Zyphire was determined to enjoy the festival together and even hang one of those damned charms so that he could write down his own wishes for their hopeful, new year.

"Either way I owe you a meal in the future and we'll have to hang some charms tonight to keep up with local traditions."

Last for me~

"It's not common Zenan," Sylvirah teased. She slid down the ladder and landed on the firm landing with a resounding 'thud'. When she was stable she stepped back so that he could come down as well. "I'll have to teach it to you. With as much as you talk your tongue might enjoy something new to say."

The thought of Zyphire traipsing about with the elite of Zidel was as comical as seeing him fighting alongside her burly grandfather. There was a part of him that could pull it off, surely, but neither ideal really fit him. He was his own type of man and maybe that was what attracted her most.

"They wouldn't like what I have to make so maybe it's best to give them our gold? Southerners don't have the stomach for my food." After all, to the Ild'vann absolutely no part of a hunt was wasted, no matter how putrid it might smell. She'd grown use to making delicious meals out of horrific things, but she was also sure Zyphire's idea of a 'delicacy' was vastly different.

"What sort of charms do they hang up?"

"Well you're not a common Zenan." Quipped back Zyphire before pausing. Wait a second... He blinked before shaking his head. Obviously Sylvirah wasn't your common Zenan. "Either way I'm always game to learn new things especially like that." And that way he would know whenever she was teasing him! Whether he showed it or not Zyphire did enjoy languages and was fairly decent at picking them up.

Zyphire chuckled. "I'm fine with using gold this time around." He recalled how she had made certain to carve everything from the mamu last time and Zyphire could only imagine what delicacies Sylvirah would have served to the village. He did pause at her question concerning the charms before giving a small, thoughtful nod. "Usually wooden ones or some with bells. Mostly to paint your wishes for the new year so that the spirits can help guide you or more so for those less superstitious to remind your of your motivation throughout the harsher months." The Shifter grinned towards his companion. "Perhaps I'll have to hang one myself with some well wishes now that I feel like I'm invested in something that I'd like to pursue throughout this new year."

Either way they could discuss that later once they actually arrived at the festivities. Zyphire glanced down at his tunic and made certain to arrange everything properly, his hair twisting over one shoulder in perfect waves, and then he gestured towards the doorway. "And away we go~" Off into a new year with a new relationship full of complicated twists and turns for them to figure out together.
