Hidden behind a large tea bush, the crop manager and heir to the Queen of the Underland herd, Devora, please call me Devi, dodged her 'bodyguards' for a bit of private time. She loved her brother and elder cousin, truly, but they took their jobs very seriously, and sometimes a girl needed some peace! With the coast clear, the mare wound her way out from behind the bush and began her trek through her fields. She adored the tea fields, enjoying the sense of calm they brought her. It also didn't hurt that she just loved the smell of tea and had more fun hybridizing new teas than just about any of the games they played in the herd!

And, therein lied her dilemma. While she enjoyed the act of hybridizing, it was...tedious. She also had to pollinate the other tea plants in addition to creating new breeds. As you can imagine, that was far too much work for one soul! She huffed, inspecting her newest creation with a sharp eye. Of course, nature helped her endeavor, but for whatever reason, bees were not visiting her fields as much as she needed. Her brother had mentioned a stallion somewhere nearby raising colonies of bees, and she wondered if that played a role. Spying a lone bee buzzing about the lavender and chamomile plants that lined the perimeter of her experimental field, the mare approached.

"Well, little friend, why are you so alone? Bring your friends! There's plenty to go around!" As the small insect flew on to other flowers, the princess dug her claws into the earth below her plants, testing the moisture. She decided more fertilizer was needed on this section with a sniff, and she made a mental note to return. Maybe her fields were too far away from a hive for bees to visit? She should talk to Blu; perhaps they could create a bee box near the fields to encourage a hive to move in?

"Oh, I bet with a hive we could produce our own honey too... I do like being industrious."

User Image The night-sky painted stallion known as Esadowa Vaiveatoish hesitated for the barest of moments at the edge of the field that was his destination, sweeping his golden eyes over the lower tiers of plant life. Toward the center of the various squares of flowers and herbs were fruit trees and some flowering hedges, which provided cover for their keeper and prevented him from viewing the whole of the garden at once. Since there was no other recourse he stepped forward, carefully winding his way through the artfully designed paths that snaked their way through the well-tended garden. Somewhere at the heart of the seemingly-unplanned maze, he knew the architect of the field was likely pacing, fluttering over every bloom and bud. Flowers were not Falmari's forte, Esa knew very well. But as his passion was the keeping of bees, an interest in flowers had become something of a side-hobby. His skill with flowers had certainly improved, in an effort to support his real interest. It was just good sense, Fal had argued, and in most cases, Falmari was a highly sensible sort. It was one of the reasons his friendship was so valuable.

Though he could claim a moderate skill with plant life in an effort to support his early efforts as a keeper of bee colonies, Falmari had long ago admitted that his fancy for bees had far surpassed those somewhat limited gardening abilities. It was to that end that he had consulted a few friends, particularly those he had met through the Lapsang Reenactment Group and Renaissance Faire. With the support of those few more experienced parties, Fal had been able to expand his garden and ensure that the new colonies that had come under his care were well kept.

He now managed several different colonies and hives, offering a few different flavor-focused honey varieties as well as beeswax, bee pollen, and raw comb on occasion. But while it was Falmari who enjoyed tending to his bees and harvesting what they produced, it had somehow fallen to Esa to find him new opportunities to sell and trade those wares in exchange for supplies he may not have access to. Partially because Esa could travel and trade regardless of the weather, partially because Fal didn't much care to interact with large groups if he could help it.

"Are you out here, Bee Keeper?" He called, fond and amused. "Falmari! I've got a lead on a herd that might want to trade for honey, or even play host to one of your colonies for a price break on your wares. There's also some question as to an exchange of goods, they have sufficient tea crops, it seems worth your while. I thought we might ask Amarie to fly over and arrange a meeting; if you don't want to visit in person. I understand that their Mistress of Tea is quite a capable lady, it might do you good to get out and make a new friend or business associate. What do you think?"

It is often said to know your strengths and Devi felt she knew hers. Plants, most defiantly. Tea making? Oh for sure. She remained the undisputed hide and seek champion. However, carpentry was not one of those skills. Squinting at the pile of wood she'd scrapped up, the crop manager huffed. Apparently, beekeeping was far harder work than she's anticipated. At least, the woodworking portion of this endeavor. Another one of the princess's strengths? Knowing when she was beat. Flicking her tail, the mare wandered along the multi-colored path plotting her next move. Well... if you couldn't do the job yourself the next best thing was hiring someone who could!

Someone in this minagere HAD to know how to keep bees right? Or knew of someone who could. Everyone has a cousin that knows people! It's not a rare skill, and while the creation of the bee box itself required spacial awareness the Devora did not possess, someone out there did! Also, she did have a lot on her plate, and she couldn't force Blu to be her bee slave. So, finding someone with not only the skill to build a hive and keep those bees alive seemed to be in her best interest at this point and time. It could be a mutually beneficial relationship, if curatred correctly. She really had no use for the beeswax created by the hive, and they could use the honey created in the teas, but she really needed those little bees to help expand the crop.

Maybe Zinger knew someone? He, and his mother, knew everyone. And if they didn't know them, they knew who to contact to get to them. Digging her claws into the dirt, Devora lifted her form up onto the rock formation next to her irrigation system. There would be time to ponder the workings of a bee treaty while watering the fields. Balanced on her back paws, she pushed aside the rocks sealing the system, allowing the water to flow freely from the waterfall into the trenches through her fields. As the system did its job, she watched, seated with her tail curled around her paws. Mother would be proud, what with this diplomacy and all...
