Kiyelt 1
Kiyelt loved all of his children, but he felt like his daughters glommed onto him more than his son. Thallassa seemed to be the one to gravitate toward Nin. He knew he loved his Mother so he understood. He was particularly close to his girls. They were just so sweet and adorable and he would scare the living crap out of whichever boys came their way. He felt maybe like Thallassa was getting left out a bit. So today he decided to do something special.
"Suit up, son, lets go fishing." he grinned and poked at his boy with a foot to usher him up the stairs to get dressed.

"Fishing?!" Thal blasted up the stairs and tore into his room, quickly assembling, pants, a shirt, his tacklebag, his rod and a small pack of his favorite snacks. When he got downstairs he watched his Father take a much larger food parcel and place it into his favorite leather backpack of his. A boys day! He loved his sisters but he had secretly been wishing for this moment. He loved fishing and he loved his Dad and he was just so excited.

Kiyelt smiled and ushered Thal out the door. The ladies would have a good day, they would have a good day. It would be good all around. He double checked the state of his hooks and asked, "So fresh or salt water today?" He thought it would be cool for Thallassa to choose the biome. Maybe beginners luck would strike that way. The thought made him feel joyous.
He loved his son so much. To have a son, a continuation of his line, a small shadow. Oh he adored it.

"Hmmm," Now that was a serious question. The rainforest held sweet secluded quiet pools, good for talking and musing about things. The fish were small and beautiful. The ocean held great big silver wonders, there were many birds and sometimes you could watch the toothy ones glide about their business. He wondered...where would be the best? He checked the weather, bright, calm and sunny, slight breeze.
"Saltwater I think Father this is good weather for watching snaptrotters."

Kiyelt's heart all but glowed with pride, his little snapper following in his footsteps. He bit his lip and didn't let Thallassa see the tears that threatened to fall. He had waited so long for kids that every moment of everyday was bright and glowing and full of the chorus of small voices.
"Ocean it is." He summoned the long legged bird Rajiri and put Thallassa on her back so that they wouldn't loose any time on land. Rajiri liked feeding while they were fishing. She was well trained.

He loved riding, the bird felt like an extension of himself. And she was the fastest and he loved that about her. She liked him too, a mutual understanding they both shared being a bit different in some ways than the others of their pack. Thal was the only boy and Rajiri was the only bird.
"Dad, you said one day I could interact with your sailscales. Can today be that day?"

Well, he was old enough. "Okay just be pretty quiet and still, they are not particularly fond of children." Kids just tended to move a little too fast and be a bit too pokey.
Kiyelt whistled and the well trained sailscales flew from their roost to alight in trees nearby to sqauwk and wonder what they would be hunting today.
"Come down and say hello." Kiyelt signalled with his hand and the sailscales approached swooping around until they landed on Kiyelts shoulders. Anaiu purred while her more sullen mate in a distinctly rare show of affection chewed on his ear a bit. Ow.

He watched the beauties with fascination, he really wanted his own one day. Sailscales were so pretty and sleek and arguably the coolest creature ever along with his beloved snaptrotters.
He wanted one with all of his being but he had to prove that he could be around these two first before Dad would ever let him have his own. His Dad's creatures were like a personal menagerie. Surprisingly the janarim was good with kids.
He goggled at the terra cotta pink female. Iniu or Anaiu both meant graceful dewdrop.

Kiyelt grinned. He remembered being just as excited over the exact same sailscales. He had climbed those cliffs over and over and over. And was hazed, razed and bitten. Until the developement of a certain mud puddle, goodness this was a long time ago.
They arrived at the beach and he set up their fishing rods, letting Thallassa put on his own bait as that was a rule for fishermen, bait your own hook.
He settled down to sip at the juice he had packed and snack on some bread. He passed out his sons portions first and they sat and munched and fished, both of them tossing chunks of beast appropriate food to the sailscales and Rajiri.

It was a lot of fun and full and sated he sat on the root of a banyan tree leg dangling idly while he watched the waves and tried not to nap. The sun was lovely and everything was so chill and quiet and idyllic.
Then he got a tug on his line and all was squealing, giggling, shreiking chaos as his Dad fought a loosing battle with entropy.
Thallassa was going one way, the fish was going the other, at some point the rod might be lost in the balance. He was too busy having the best moment of his life to care.

Helping his son reel in a fish, was one of the hardest but most fun things he had ever done. It was pure chaos but once he got his son calmed down it was a little easier. He guided him reeling it in, making sure he kept the tension right and the rod high.
"Atta boy! Now, just guide him into shore, that's it!." He wasn't sure which one of them was more excited. Eventually he got the fish on shore, it was pretty big, he was surprised that Thallassa had been strong enough. Must have got it from his Mother, he giggled to himself. He wondered what Nin was doing right now. Probably not having as much fun as this.
"Well done, this will feed the family for sure."

"Come here," he told the fish and posed with it for his Dad. He was so puffed up with pride that he was gonna just pop.
He had done his father proud! Son of the year award right here please!
It was a cool looking fish too with little faint rainbow spots on its sides and black gums. "Its so cool, what is it?"
It had large round scales too, it was so pretty. The fins were pretty flexible and he imagined what they did in water to make the fish move through it.

"I believe this is called a Rainbow Back and they are one of the most delicious fish. You were very very smart to choose the ocean, you have a bit of that oneness with this place that your Mother has, this is a very beautiful thing. I believe this school came inland because the snaptrotters are out amidseas fishing. What an amazing catch."
He was just in awe with life. Everyone should have kids they were amazing. Speaking of kids maybe he should chat with Nin and see if she was amenable to more.

"Well Dad, I thought we would have a good chance of seeing snaptrotters today as they came in from fishing I didn't know it would drive the shoal in. Everything out here is connected isn't it?"
Life was complicated. Sisters were complicated, parents were complicated, and fishing was definitely complicated. But it was also infinitely interesting to him. He loved how varied and beautiful life was and how even solemn scenes may have a beauty that the discerning eye could ferret out.
Thallassa patted the fish.

Humility, a chip off the old block. If only his son knew how truly awesome Kiyelt thought he was. Best to keep some respect or his son would know he ruled his Dad too. It wasn't just the girls. He hoped that this fishing trip would reassure him. Thallassa had told his Mom and after promising not to tell him to her son, did anyway. So Kiyelt wanted to make sure that Thallassa felt included.
Kina clung to him and Honi was Honi, the sweetest being ever. Thallassa was the only boy, which must be hard sometimes.
"Yes it is all connected in a way, and also in ways we cannot see." He didn't expect such deep thoughts from someone so young.
