Ylva was busy plotting a way to duck out of lessons.

It wasn't that the young Vandrea did poorly in her lessons and training - indeed, she seemed to thrive in both. One of her mothers had told her that she seemed to have a natural ability to pick up concepts lessons. And the act of learning was terribly satisfying to her.

No, it was rather that she simply didn't like the principle of being stuck in a lesson when she didn't feel like it. What if it wasn't challenging enough? Then it would be downright boring, and Ylva was not in the business of being bored.

Today, she had decided, she didn't feel like practicing the same maneuvers she had done hundreds of times before. She didn't want to hold a spear and work on her form. So the prentice and woken up early and snuck outside, and was now lingering near the training grounds looking mightily shifty as she pondered ways to get out of her upcoming training.

[1/10]

On Isle Chiume, there weren't really... strangers. The settlement was young, its new generation even younger, and they'd all grown up relatively close together geography wise. Odds were if you didn't actually know somebody, then you at least knew OF them. Hesperia couldn't say she knew Ylva especially well, but she'd had enough lessons and training sessions with her to know that the girl was exceptionally sharp, spirited... and crafty. So when the dutiful student appeared for her lessons, her gaze was drawn to the rather unsubtle Vandrea, her eyes narrowing somewhat as she tried to deduce her intentions.

Ultimately, though, she opted to offer a helping hand - striding to the other girl with a purposeful step. "Ylva! Ahh- I'm excited to see someone else here so early! Are you excited for training today?"

Ylva whipped around with the wide eyes of someone who thought she might have been caught red-handed - except, she quickly realized, she hadn't actually done anything. Yet.

"O-ohhhh, Hesperia!" she said, pasting a smile on her face as her mind churned. She really had not counted on someone showing up... early. "Good morning! You know it - just couldn't wait to get up and get over here." Ylva tried her best, but it wasn't necessarily her most convincing.

She was a bit distracted though. Her original idea of just hiding all the training weapons would have to be scrapped. If Ylva knew anything at all about Hesperia, it was that her sister was terribly kind and terribly devoted to their ways - and that mean that she most likely was excited about training.

"Are you always this early?"

ahhh I'm sorry irl ate me up and spat me out again asdfasdf

Hmm... well. Nothing seemed to be amiss here, but Hesperia couldn't shake the feeling she'd stumbled on something. Yet, Ylva had a reputation as being incredibly clever and good at training so... after a pregnant pause, she dismissed her own feelings. Instead, she smiled at the other sister, propping her hands energetically against her hips. "Not always... but! Wangui whooped me with a spear last time we fought and I was hoping I could get some extra practice in."

Her actual sister was so much better with the spear than her... Hess was better, meanwhile, with archery, but their mother had pointed out that crosstraining was best. What if she was in a fight and her string snapped? A back up was always necessary!

Still... despite her play at being full of energy, Hesperia had to stifle a sudden and very fierce yawn that broke through her, making her eyes water with its strength. "...Still- wish it wasn't so early..."

"Ohhh," Ylva nodded understandingly. So, just bad luck then. She thought about abandoning her idea for another day, when there would be zero witnesses about, but then decided that she had woken up early specifically to do this anyway. There was nothing to lose by trying!

She scampered up to Hesperia as her sister tried to stifle a big yawn, and a knowing grin lit up her face as she took that show of tiredness and ran with it. "Yea, I know how you feel, it is just so early," she said, eyes wide and bright with eagerness. "Well, heeeeere's an idea. Bet you I know how we can both get out of this early morning training?"

Ylva beamed. Please agree. Please please pleeeeeease.

Hmm? Blinking tears from her eyes, Hesperia hummed and glanced at the younger Aishan, her eyebrows rising in surprise at the grin that had lit up her face with suspicious mischief. Her golden eyes slanted slightly at the suggestion, but... a tug of curiosity outweighed the instinct to just shrug the other girl off. "Ylva." She said, somewhat chastising, "We're here to train, aren't we?" She asked, her full lips twisting into a pout.

...But. "How would we?" It wasn't normally Hesperia's nature to shirk responsibilities, but her curiosity had always outweighed her caution in moments like this. The isle was boring at the best of times... what would the other girl get up to if NOT training? The only other options were crafting, sewing, or building things for the settlement... so what was she so eager to get up to, if not that?

"Welllllllllllll," Ylva said, opening her mouth wide to object, then snapping it shut again, thinning her lips into a line as she tried to stifle a smile. Rats. Hesperia was about to dash her hopes and dreams.

But then...

Ylva's golden-eyed gaze snapped eagerly to her sister's face, and she relaxed the lips she'd smushed together, allowing them to creep into a cautious smile. Was this...? Could it be...?

"Well!" she said again, this time with much brighter emotion. "If we just hide everything really well, so well that nobody can find all the sparring tools, then we can't possibly train!" And maybe they'd get a break.

Because in reality, it wasn't so much about what Ylva could be doing instead of training. The thought that burned the brightest in her head was simply how to get out of doing something. Anything. It almost didn't matter what.

Hesperia should be horrified, but the stunt was so ridiculous she could only feel amused. She laughed, propping a hand against her hip as she turned to look at all the weapons, painstakingly propped up and waiting for worthy Aishans to scoop them up and practice fighting.

"Or, when the sisters training us realized someone hid everything, they'll punish everyone by having us make new ones. Or... practice hand to hand combat." Hesperia advised with a raised eyebrow.

That should be that, really. But...

"If you wanted to get away with something, you'd have to make it look like an accident."

Hesperia laughed, which was far from the reaction Ylva had been expecting from her sister. She grinned, and then her face fell a bit as Hesperia pointed out the obvious flaw in the plan.

"Welll..." she said, long and drawn out as she played with some ideas in her head. Maybe they could destroy the entire training area... Or just put it out of commission somehow. Release some awful pest that would require it to be shut down while the elders dealt with it.

But admittedly, all of that was rather more destructive than Ylva had originally considered.

"An accident, you say?" she said, breaking out of her ideas to listen to Hesperia's. Her lips pursed in thought, and her eyes slid sidelong to study her sister with intrigue. This, she had never expected, but her excitement was real. "Have you got anything in mind?"

(5/10)

Did she? ... Not particularly, but... now she was bubbling with energy. Generally speaking, it wasn't like her to cause any sort of trouble; by all means she shouldn't be encouraging Ylva, but ... in the past the two girls hadn't had much to say to one another. And for whatever reason, Ylva had confided her schemes to Hesperia.

Chewing the edge of her lip, the girl put a hand to her chin and pondered for a moment. Even if they claimed that breaking the weapons was an accident, she rather detested the idea of causing actual harm, when weapons could be so expensive...

But...

"... Well. The benefit of playing by the rules most of the time is... when you really want to get out of something, people believe you." Hesperia pointed out with an amused grin. "Maybe... we could go together and avoid practice. Just this once - and when the teacher asks where we were, we could say we were sparring and lost track of the time?"
