Introduction
- Greetings and salutations; this page is to introduce you to aura and define what we allow in the roleplay. While the show has various things listed, we felt it would be better if we made it clear what works in our version of RWBY and what doesn't. This is also to let members know all that we allow in relation to aura; be it stuff that can be used as talent/ skills, basic abilities anyone has, and so on. Aura has a surprising number of uses and applications; what is listed here now may be updating to include more as time goes on but this is just what has already been approved of in guild in general.
First off, for some general knowledge, all living things have aura. Grimm are considered non-living as they do not have aura. However, while all things have aura, it is generally considered that animals and plants have much weaker aura's than that of people normally. Secondly, aura's main function is to provide you protection. It can act as a shielding around you, protect you from the elements, and just generally improve your survivability. Further, aura does have an appearance. Being tied to a persons soul, as aura is unique, it manifests as a colored barrier around the person at times or around anything they may be attacking with. However, it does not always need to remain visible; it can be visible or invisible depending on the person's desire. Finally, aura is utilized for offense as much as it is defensively. It helps power and fuel a person's semblance and allows for special attacks at the cost of ones aura. However, it is not a limitless resource; it shall run out at some point, in which case it would take time to passively recharge.
Basic Vs Advanced (and requirements)
- (1.) ▬ Basic: These are the type of abilities anyone can do (assuming they know how to). It is the basics that help to survive an encounter with the creatures of Grimm. This requires no talent/ skill investment.
(2.) ▬ Advanced: These are the type of abilities that not everyone can do. They require dedication, training, natural aptitude, or a conduit of some kind to actually pull off. To simplify it, these type of aura-related abilities can require talent/skill/semblance/special weapons to actually do. While most of the defensive and survival based aura abilities fall in the basic categories, the advanced category extends more for offensive or utility purposes. Some of these will vary in strengths depending on how they are acquired.

Defensive
- (1.) ▬ Defensive Shielding (Basic): This is one of the most useful tools for anyone in the world of Remnant. Acting a bit like a personal forcefield, your defensive aura can help protect you from bodily harm and what would normally be fatal wounds. This does vary between people but there are two main ways it is used that we allow; some people have defensive aura that completely blocks most damage while it is up, while others defensive aura cannot and only reduces incoming damage. However it is used it does have a limit and can only absorb so much damage before breaking. Using offensive aura or your semblance will reduce the amount of damage it can absorb before breaking.
Defensive aura is not just limited to the person. It extends to the things they carry, such as their weapons, and even a bit more if they focus, like a motorcycle. Extending your aura to encompass anything more than just yourself/ what you carry will weaken it overall; the most it could ever reach the size of is a small car or very small airplane. Though at that stage it would be much easier to break.
You can also concentrate your defensive aura into certain parts of your body in anticipation of oncoming hits, to try and better defend that particular area. It does draw from your defense around your body, but it can be a useful technique to use.
(2.) ▬ Aura healing, minor (Basic): This is the secondary defense most people have. While it won't heal major wounds most of the time (you would need to expend a lot of aura, maybe even needing someone else's in order to heal a life-threatening one/ stabilize it), it can help keep you going by healing small to minor wounds you sustain in a fight. This, however, is not as efficient as aura defense; it drains much more to heal than it does to protect. It is also good to keep in mind that people in this world heal faster than those in the real world; a broken leg can be healed in a few weeks instead of 6 months as an example.
(3.) ▬ Premonition (Advanced): This is a kind of danger sense, or feeling of ill-ease, one may get when being watched or stalked. While not fool proof, there are those who know how to shroud themselves against this, this does generally help the user be more aware of potential dangers or threats that may be around them; mainly that of Grimm or sentient creatures.
(4.) ▬ Weather protection (Basic): You are able to protect yourself from the elements and bad weather to a degree; protecting from cold, heat, etc. However doing so does actively drain it and it is not indefinite protection; your aura will eventually run dry if used like this for too long.
(5.) ▬ Aura shield (Advanced): You are able to focus your aura to manifest a literal aura shield from your hands that looks like a flat disc. It can help better shield you from harm when you use it to block oncoming attacks, being able to take more than your regular body shield just because you are concentrating your aura to defend there. This will generally have X uses and a cooldown attached to it, and requires using your hands to do so.
Utility
- (1.) ▬ Unlock Aura (Basic): This is a not often utilized, but important nonetheless, use of aura. Often times there are those who do not know how to activate their aura (defensive or otherwise) on their own and need a boost. While not complex to do it is very taxing; unlocking someone's aura will take away most of your for a period of time.
(2.) ▬ Transfer Aura (Basic): This allows for people to try to give their aura to someone else; be it to heal them, help their defense, or for other reasons. This is a very draining act though, as the process of giving aura is very inefficient.
(2.) ▬ Sensing Aura (Advanced): This is type of aura use can take many forms; be it vision, a feeling, or another of the main senses a person has. One shape or the other, you are able to use your aura to detect the presence of other aura's around you. With every living thing having aura, it makes it hard to distinguish what is what or who is who; even if people generally have more. It does also, inadvertently, help to find Grimm as they lack any aura.
(3.) ▬ Identifying Aura (Advanced sensing aura): This is a more honed type of sensing aura; a type where you can better pick out individual auras and identify/ differentiate them from others. With everyone's semblance/ aura being a bit unique to them, this kind of sight can be even more distinguishing than a fingerprint.
(4.) ▬ Aura Masking (Advanced): This use of aura is meant to help mask your presence better from those who may be seeking you. It allows you to help suppress your own aura signature from those who may be using it to try and seek you out.
Offensive
(1.) ▬ Shockwave (Advanced): An offensive technique utilizing aura to cause a shockwave of it to knock things away from the user. This will generally be short range and have a cooldown attached to it.
(2.) ▬ Power Strike (Advanced): An aura enhanced strike; the user condenses aura to what they are attacking with to unleash a much stronger blow. This will generally have a cooldown attached to it, and limit to how much stronger this attack is than the usual.
(3.) ▬ Aura slice (Advanced): Channeling aura into their weapon, the user is able to send out a wave of aura from their weapon strike to try sand hit a distant foe. This will generally have a limit to its range, and a cooldown attached to its use.
