It was that time of year again and Lynx was more than ready for it. He knew there was a festival that most people looked forward to and it was usually pretty fun to experience but that wasn’t what he waited for. Oh no. The young hybrid was more interested in the seasonal candies and baked goods that came along with it. Those extraordinary flavors that seemed to come out of nowhere when one least expected it. Well, not quite, Lynx expected them. But the time did creep up on one who wasn’t paying much attention, so there was that.
This time he’d saved up his coin from chores and various gifts so that he would have more than enough to spend on whatever it was that he wanted. Lynx had plans to get candies for him and his twin brother, as well as their new friend Variel. They had more or less adopted the poor girl as their honorary sister so it was only right that she got spoiled like a little sister should. Then there were the gifts that he wanted to buy for them. He wanted to get stuff for his mom and dad too. Most of it was going to be spent on himself and his sweet tooth but he figured he had more than enough to manage.
Wearing a large grin on his face Lynx quickly made his way through the crowd, bobbing and weaving past small groups and individuals, so that he could make a bee line for the hard candy stall. They had several fruity flavors that he wanted. Lynx stood in line for a few minutes and when it was his turn he felt giddy. Instantly he pointed to three flavors. “I’d like these in one bag.” That was for him. Then he pointed out another group. “Then these in another bag.” Those would be for Iexa. “And finally these in the last one.” That mix of flavors would be for Variel.
Candies and coin were passed to their new owners and off he went to the next stall. There was still so much he had to do. The satchel bag he’d brought with him was slung over his shoulder and he opened it to deposit the first of many goodies. With them securely placed inside he closed the flap then looked around. “Alright.. now where is.. Aha!” He pointed with both index fingers then moved along. His next visit was to a small jewelry stand. There he picked up two bracelets. One was more fancy than the other. His mother would enjoy the shiny one and his friend turned adopted sister would like the braided one.
Again, the gifts were put into the satchel before he moved on to the next stall. This one was a baked goods vendor who had all sorts of treats laid out on display. So much so that he had to take his time and read the labels before he decided on anything. The smells were amazing and had him practically drooling. Lynx picked out a few rolls that looked like they had been covered in sugar. Anything sweet was okay with him. Then he got what looked like a cheese covered loaf, almost as if the baker had sprinkled the cheese on top before baking it. He was sure his mother would enjoy that. She liked cheese enough to eat it without anything so why not? Then he set his eyes on a pie that was for sale. The crust was perfectly browned but the inside contents caught his attention.
The smell told him it was his and his brother’s favorite fruit. Before anyone else could scoop it up, since it was the last one apparently, he told the vendor that he wanted the whole thing. He waited patiently as it was wrapped for transport then handed over the coin for it. Since it was easily squished or could leak out if the pan was tilted he didn’t put it in the bag over his shoulder. Instead he carried this treat in his hands. “Alright.. I’ve got plenty of edible goods. I want to find a gift for dad and Iexa.”
With that in mind he turned to look down the street and see what stalls were left that he’d ignored in his haste to find the best treats so far. There were a few that he knew wouldn’t fit the bill. They were full of women’s accessories, like earrings and hair pins. His brother wore their mother’s hairstyle but he doubted that Iexa wanted a hair pin. So he wandered down the street in search of the best gift.
