Autumn came with a variety of edible specialties. Home made buns were a variety of spices, thick hearty soups that could put one into a food coma and best of all; seasonal ales. Ujana had meant to only stop in Tale long enough to visit with her family before going back to her girlfriend for the winter, but when she’d passed by a tavern sporting The World’s Greatest Pumpkin Brew she just had to stop.
It would have been absolutely criminal not to.
And when they offered a grand prize for whoever could drink the most - a whole whopping bag of gold! - Ujana knew she had to try her hand in it. She’d already signed up with the others and wasn’t surprised to see a pack of burly travelers. A few women dotted the contest, but most were locals with guts twice as big as any keg she’d seen. They were just waiting for the final call on participants, but it didn’t matter who signed up. She wasn’t planning on losing!

Needless to say when Zyphire was bored he tended to make poor decisions. The shifter had heard about the drinking challenge and had not hesitated to volunteer as a participant. While his lack of concern for how much drinking the challenge would entail was not surprising there was some actual surprise when he turned around and noticed a familiar face. "Seems like fate keeps pushing us together." Zyphire quipped playfully as he shifted around the crowd to get closer to the leaf woman he had met at the festival earlier this summer.

Ujana ll 2
She'd just been about to take a seat when Ujana spotted a familiar shifter. With a broad grin, she moved closer and brought out her hand to give him a hearty clap on the shoulder. "That's either a blessing on your part or a curse. I'm one or the other; never both." Laughing, she took a look around and then focused her attention back on him. "So, you here to watch or participate?" If he thought he could take her he'd have to really give it his all! Ujana did still technically own a tavern, after all! She knew her way around ale.

Zyphire laughed at her reaction. It was always nice to encounter another free spirit and the Shifter's grin only grew the more Ujana spoke. "I guess we'll have to keep meeting up to see exactly which it is then." He replied playfully with a wink before nodding at her question. "I figured why the hell not? If anything should lead to a fun night whether i win or lose. Who can resist the world's greatest pumpkin brew, right? You participating too?" He asked with interest. "If so we can both take care of the other when we're drunk on our asses later tonight." It would be nice to have a drinking buddy win or lose. And if she won? At least he'd have a beautiful partner to help keep him steady on his feet when he was plastered later.

Ujana ll 3
Hearing the way the crowd was starting to get louder and louder let Ujana know that the contest was about to start at any minute. Someone closer to the bar was saying something, but she really didn't catch on until contestants were being ushered to a set of tables closer to the center of the tavern. Nodding her head to Zyphire, she followed along.
"I've got your back if you've got mine." She grinned. "It's hard to pass up something seasonal, you know? Once a year; seems criminal to just walk away." It wasn't exactly the kind of thing she would write home about, but really, a little partying now and then wasn't SO bad. She needed to let off some steam after all the odd jobs, anyway.
A pretty little slip of a leafling stood atop the bar and waved a mop towel around as she whistled. When she'd gotten enough attention, whether by the loud, shrill noise or her general physique, she called out, "As soon as everyone's seated we'll be bringing around the first round. When you've finished, turn your glass upside down and put it on the table in front of you. When you do we'll give you the next one. Last person still awake wins!"
Ujana took her place and motioned for Zyphire to join her. "I wouldn't mind losing if she was the one to pick me back up," She murmured.

"Agreed." Zyphire joined Ujana at the table and couldn't help grinning at her statement. "Oh? I suppose you're not wrong about that." His silver gaze floated towards the leaf girl and he could only shake his head in defeat. "Maybe that's their plan. She's a distraction to make it easier competition. Though apparently it's a thing for you leaf women to be overly attractive. Seriously how do you manage that?" He couldn't resist adding as a pair of mugs slid across their table, the amber ale already spilling from the top as a frothy foam.
"Here's to drinking until we forget our own names!" Zyphire cheered playfully as he held up his mug towards Ujana. Soon enough the drinking would commence!

Ujana ll 4
Ujana couldn't help snorting. "If that's the case I'll be the first one distracted." It was a pity the only thing she could do was to watch, but boundaries were there for a reason. Still, it didn't mean she couldn't appreciate the view and his comments just made her elbow him in the rib. "You never quit, do you?" Still, she grinned and leaned in to lower her voice when several other patrons gave her a glowering look. "It's all in the eyes. Greens the color of temptation and bad decisions. I should know; mine's the brightest." And leaning back she looked almost proud of it.
"Everyone, lift your glasses!" When she'd gotten what she needed the judge waved her towel. "Let the competition begin!"
"I'll drink to that!" Ujana laughed and clanked her mug against his before taking a deep, hearty drink. It didn't take her long to make it through the first mug, and soon enough she was working her way through the second.

"Me quit? Never." Zyphire smirked towards Ujana. Even if she was taken and maybe even into women more so than men it wouldn't stop him from flirting with an attractive woman with a fun personality. "Ah. Is that so?" He replied with a laugh. "Damm. You must be right now that I think about it." Too bad he didn't have green eyes to reflect his own similar personality though if it was an option he was certain the gods would have tossed it at him.
Zyphire started drinking as soon as their mugs clanked. Not caring that some of the brew sloushed a bit onto the table, he continued on until he was already through the second and third mugs. "Definitely a seasonal favorite! Though wish that they would swap in some of that hard cider for a few mugs." Zyphire commented lightly as he waited for the newest mug. He knew he was in for the long haul. Something told him that Ujana was not a lightweight and he personally had grown accustomed to ale during his travels and other shenanigans.

Ujana ll 5
The sticky froth that clung to her cheeks didn't bother Ujana in the least. When she lowered her mug to catch her breath she simply licked the back of her hand, wiped off her face and guzzled another mouthful. Contests like these should be taken slowly, but it was hard not to get overly excited for the first couple of pints. After this one she would take care...maybe.
"Ooo, yeah, for variety. The spice gets old after a while." She was already halfway through the third, just tailing behind him, but Ujana barely felt the buzz. At best she just felt the thrill of competition and a good drink on her tongue. "Maybe throw in a pint of something harder to throw everyone off."
Seeing something interesting at the next table, Ujana finished off her pint and hurriedly turned it upside down. "Look! Look, he's already out. He's going to fall - " And just as she was about to point it out one of the lightweights rocked back in his chair and hit the ground, which earned a hearty guffaw from the leafling woman.

"Agreed." Zyphire reached for the newest mug and gave a hopeful glance towards the server. "It doesn't all have to be the house special, does it?" He teased playfully while the girl just rolled her eyes before turning away with a smile. The shifters attention was dragged from the server's backside when Ujana gestured towards one of the patrons and Zyphire didn't even bother to suppress his own laughter. "Welp! So much for that one." He managed before slapping his own mug face down on the table.
"Maybe since I asked nicely they'll surprise us with something new?" Zyphire asked with a grin as another body slumped and went face first into their drink behind him. "If we even need to make it that far at this rate." What a bunch of lightweights! Zyphire's tongue felt perhaps a bit looser with the alcohol but then again he never seemed to know when to be quiet in the first place!

Ujana ll 6
It was worth asking, even if she did look more aggravated than anything else. "Maybe it doesn't sell as well as they thought and they're just trying to get rid of it before the season's over." Ujana brought her mug up to tap against her temple before taking a drink. "It's what I used to do." She'd have these big blow out events and try to sell through as much of the seasonal stuff as she could before it was no longer popular. Not only did it bring it business but she was also able to drink as much as she damn well pleased.
Ujana just snorted. "She's gonna spit in your drink. I'll bet two bits on it." Maybe she was starting to feel it more than she let it on. Pint after pint Ujana laughed a little more and maybe she was getting a little louder, but other than that she didn't feel a thing. Certainly not in comparison to some of these louts! When the man closest to her tapped out she reached over to pat his stomach sympathetically. "Aww, what's'a matter? My stomach wasn't even half that big before I had my son and I can still outdrink you." When he slapped her hand around with some kind of grumbling comment she just laughed.
"See that? You'd think I insulted him or somethin. Folks can't take jokes anymore."

"Pffft. That's genius!" Replied Zyphire perhaps a bit too loudly. "Shame though if that's the case. It's not that horrible and by now I've already forgotten most of the taste!" What was he like eight mugs in and feeling a bit of that buzz? Not like that was a big deal of course! Him and Ujana were fighters and they weren't going down lightly! He couldn't help but grin mischievously at Ujana's warning about his drink. "I mean if she wanted to swap some spit there's much better ways that I'd be willing that do with her. " Alcohol definitely did not make him much of a suave personality at all.
"Right?" Zyphire chuckled as he reached for the new mug. The glass was moving like a devil though and it took a few tries before his fingers successfully curled around the handle. Eventually he managed to raise the glass to his lips to take a big swig. "To be fair looks like you can out drink most of the room at this rate." There were perhaps a few beefier patrons still going but Zyphire was already noticing a pile of dropouts around the bar.

Ujana ll 7
Nine drinks in and Ujana wasn't the least bit concerned about how many others were left. She'd been actively watching them for a while, almost in a gloating sort of fashion, as they dropped like roati flies around them. It was getting harder to get her mug to stand up straight when she tipped it over and there had been a time or two when she'd almost tipped it before even finishing her drink!
"Go on and ask her. Worst she can say is no." She'd be tempted to ask her for him if she kept drinking.
"I mean if she wanted to swap some spit there's much better ways that I'd be willing that do with her. " Alcohol definitely did not make him much of a suave personality at all.
She was definitely leaning more on the back of her chair than she had been in the beginning. Ujana had already half turned in it, one leg curling under her as she all but leaned on the back of the chair. The room was a lot fuzzier around the edges then she remembered. "Lots of practice. I've been working in bars since I was thirteen but don't tell anyone. They're not supposed to know." She grinned on another swig.
"So, does having so many crystals on your forehead make it hard to wear hats?"

"Fair enough." Zyphire set his mug down with a flourish, the edges of it sliding dangerously close to the edge of the table before stopping. The Shifter stood up as if to cross the room towards the server before finding himself plopping right back down into his seat with a thud. "Maybe...maybe once the floor stops being so damn slippery." He muttered before reaching up to pinch the bridge of his nose. Surely nine or ten mugs shouldn't have affected him already! Zyphire's lips pursed into a pout before he chuckled at Ujana's words. "Ahah. I knew there had to be somethin'." He murmured with a shake of his head. "Look at this bar workin' and drinkin' expert right 'ere."
He didn't know when the server had the chance to swap the mugs but once again there was a full glass sitting before him. Zyphire frowned at it and reached a tentative hand out before raising it to his lips and taking another long drink. "Does it? Nah! What type of hat do you wear that goes to your forehead?" He mused back at her with a shake. "Shouldn't your ears make it harder to wear things like hoods and such?" He motioned with his hands to indicate the pointy tips, the ale splashing a bit with the movement before he took another swig of his drink.

Ujana ll 8
For a hot second Ujana was ready to see some real action, but then he sat down just as fast as he stood up. She reached over to clap him on the back, but missed entirely and ended up grabbing the back of his chair instead, her forehead hitting his shoulder. Instead of getting ruffled by it she just laughed and sloppily pushed herself back up. "One of'uva kind." Her words slurred, but she still had that proudness about her, which was impressive considering how she couldn't even sit up without swaying.
Were they even now? Was he winning? Was she? Ujana looked at his glass with as much confusion as she could before turning to her own full pint. It called to her, sweetly tempting her into drinking more and who was she to say no? "Those fuz'i ones up north." She waved her hand blindly around her head. "They'd rub, would'n'they?"
Thinking about it, or at least, pretending to, Ujana raised a pointed finger his way. "You'd think so annnnndd you'd be right. Iz why I don't wear'em." She said pointedly before taking another drink.
