He’d have to get his car later; it wasn’t far but, he was absolutely not down for getting it tonight, even with Cavansite beside him, well… out of uniform now but. He fumbled with his keys and almost dropped them; he was just exhausted. “I think… I think I have food in the crockpot. It’s not my garlic chicken, but…ah hell, that am gonna have to explain this to my boss ********.” He cast her a look and added. “The…other one.” Maybe… Sterling would be asleep, and he could let the worry wait till morning. Sure… That would totally help wash this over.

Karone gave a soft snort and smoothed back Yu’s hair again, taking the keys from his hand. “The boss who actually pays you, you mean to say.” She took a moment to get the door unlocked and then just sighed. “We’ll figure out our story, and I don’t need garlic chicken. Do you work tomorrow?” It would be terribly convenient if he were to have a day off or two but…well. There was no way of speeding up time but. “I can get your car for you too after I leave. Just leave your keys with me and I’ll bring it back. Is it in the lot that I met you in?”
If she could at least move his car for him…that would be something. It would make her feel a lot less useless.
“We’ll figure it out, Yu. You don’t have to worry about coming up with a story on your own, you forget that you have me here…and if I have to tell your boss you were nearly choked out by a robber, I have no qualms in doing so.”
She said the words as she opened the door, and froze when she heard a very confused, very worried Sterling.“…What?”
The male got to his feet and made his way to the door, his face going pale when he saw the state that Yu was in. “You got mugged this time?” There was horror in his voice. “Yu…maybe I need to get you the pepper spray…”
He didn't know who the stranger was that his boyfriend had come home with but...so long as she wasn't the one who put the bruises on him, he didn't much care. Not at this moment in time, at least.

“I work tomorrow because I need the -money“ He started to protest, which was, of course, when the door opened. The sheepish look that immediately went across his face, ducking his head, blushing. It was absolutely the boyfriend. “Yeah…I think that one might have eaten the pepper spray. “ He said with a grimace. He really hoped whatever the b*****d had blown in his face hadn't left his eyes red, but he wasn’t banking on it. “Uh… This is Karone… she kinda, scraped me off the sidewalk after I ticked off the… jerk, by existing apparently.” It was not a lie; it was just not all the details. “We met recently through a side job, and uh… well, that's how she knew it was safe to pick me off the sidewalk. I’m sorry, I didn’t get dinner on or, call or…” He waved the half-melted ice pack. “Yeah.” The worst of this was he’d been trying to teach poor Sterling to defend himself, and now he came home like this.

Karone looked Sterling up and down, giving a small, almost approving nod. He certainly looked as though he gave a damn that Yu was coming home looking like he got hit by a truck…and that was big points in her book. “I’ll buy a pizza for all of us if you want me too, I can do that much at least, Yu.” She watched the male for a moment and gently gave him a little push towards Sterling. “And, no. I don’t care if you need the money, you’re taking tomorrow off, if I have to spot you some money this month or something, I will but…like hell you’re going into a job tomorrow looking like you’re the throwaway character in an old comedy.”
She put her hands on her hips and glanced around the house, giving another approving nod. “Where’s the kitchen? Can I go and get you some more ice? That is starting to wiggle rather inappropriately.”
Grinning, Karone walked past the two, looking around as she did so. “…And where’s your cat? You told me there was a cat, Yu.”Sterling caught the male in his arms and moved at once to the couch, setting Yu down with furrowed brows. “…I’m glad that she found you…you look awful…does it hurt horribly?” How could someone have done this to Yu of all people. He was so strong, and so good with fighting…and brave.
Quietly, Sterling nodded, gesturing vaguely to where the kitchen was. “There should be ice…and pizza’s fine, thank you…ah, Karone, was it?” He didn’t bother looking up but softly reached to stroke his boyfriend’s cheek. “…Can I do anything to help? Do you need anything? Seriously, I can get you pepper spray…ah, bear spray for the both of us, hm?”
If it was someone powered…he would find them and kick their butt.
For a moment, his mind wondered to the lieutenant who had broken his glasses and anger simmered in him. He was wearing his old spare pair which was an old prescription, and things were more than a little blurry. “…Maybe we should stick to driving everywhere…”

“You say that like it’s easy to just walk into a kitchen!” He grimaced. “I am not swapping to McDonald's. I’m -fine now I can, you know…breathe.” He quipped, or tried. It would probably have been more effective had he not followed the statement with a cough and another grimace. “And you’re not spotting anything! I already owe you for the help.” He was grateful enough, though all the same embarrassed to be in Sterling’s arms. “It’s not as bad as it probably looks, honestly.” He offered. “I’m still breathing, right?” He let himself rest for a moment head-on Sterling’s shoulder. That precious moment of trying not to let the reminders that he was garbage, awful… incapable of - He pushed the thoughts down as best he could. “You should see the other guy.” He offered, giving a quirk of a smile. “He was just closer to his getaway point. He paused, blinking. “… those aren’t your normal glasses, what happened?” He slid hands around Sterling’s waist; it was absolutely not for his own stability against weariness, at all…

Karone simply snorted at his words, rolling her eyes and making her way into the kitchen, ordering a pizza and getting out one of the ice packs from the freezer, wrapping it in a dish towel that she found in one of the drawers. It was a cute house, and it felt like a home which was something that a lot of places didn’t nowadays. Sterling sighed and held the male close. “If you weren’t still breathing, I don’t know what I’d do, honestly. It’s not something that I want to ever have to prepare for…ah…but the glasses.”
He gave a sigh, shaking his head. “Our sweet, innocent perfect kitty knocked them off the couch while I was trying to get rid of a headache that was threatening…and of course your blind boyfriend couldn’t see where they had fallen…and um. They got up close and personal with my foot. So now I’m wearing my old pair…I need to go to the eye doctor soon anyway but…I didn’t expect to get pushed into it like this.”
Sterling didn’t like lying, but he had been rehearsing it in his head since the glasses had first broken. And he was pleased that it was delivered with the right amount o f care and exasperation. “When’s the last time you went to the eye doctor? You should go, even if you see well…just for eye health, you know.”

“I half swear she lives at work.” He murmured distractedly for a moment before turning his attention back to Sterling. “Well… if I ever stop, they do have like, CPR.” He grinned. “You know, mouth to mouth?” He gave his most innocent look. “Might have to hold my breath for that; seriously though, it just, he got the drop on me. It won’t happen again. I’ll even take up the self-defense classes myself cause apparently I’m rusty, and we could all do better, eh?” He did glance down at Sterling’s foot like he suspected that there might be glass in his feet, but it wasn’t as though they enforced any kind of ‘no shoes’ rule, which in this case was good and bad for glasses most likely. “Oh..oh no-no-no… my eyes are -fine-.” He protested. “I am…fully functional, just bruised. I can read and everything.”

Sterling paused and looked Yu up and down, pursing his lips. “…What’s that? You’re not breathing? Oh, oh no.” He leaned forward and kissed Yu on the lips, tenderly, trying to blow a little air into him, but mostly trying to be silly. He ended up laughing softly and drew away. “…Yeah, I can’t even joke about it…but I did try, you can’t fault me for that.”
He paused and his smile grew just a little amused. “…When’s the last time you went to the eye doctor? It is important, like I said even if you can see fine…if there’s anything wrong…it’ll just be a check up. You should come with me! It could be fun. A date!”
The idea made him happy and he pressed another kiss against Yu, catching his temple this time. “It’ll be good for you.”

“Why would I go to the eye doctor if I’m -fine- though? That sounds like a waste of money, and you threw doctors in.” He made a face. “The only part about that sounds good is the date part, but … doctors.” He was absolutely not answering when he’d last been because he hadn’t. You didn’t go to people you didn’t need to; that was just… logic, right? “Besides, if I get cornered into a call out, I’ll have to pick up extra shifts. It was the lamest of excuses. “KA-“ He started to call out to where she was in the kitchen to ask her to defend him from any need to see any kind of doctor, but that was, in fact, a terrible idea. “Ow mother…fudge…” he cursed. “Well, now you know how worried I was after YOU got mugged, but I at least keep a knife in my boot.”

“But you don’t know that you’re fine…” Sterling murmured, kissing his temple. “...Fine then, we’ll just do a date and it will be wonderful.” He’d find a way to get Yu to go to the eye doctor, even if he didn’t know it. ANd he’d set up appointments with the dentist and to his own primary care physician...if he was going to date Sterling, Yu would have to get used to being healthy.
“...Why? Call out. I’ll waive your part of the rent if need be, I don’t mind, and I’d much rather you be feeling better and not look like a corpse than a little bit of money. I’ve got you. We’re a team. Partners.”
He winced when the male tried to shout and huffed, worry in his eyes. “...Why...What was that for? Now you’ve gone and hurt yourself…”Karone walked back into the room, her eyebrows raised. “What. I’m literally right here. I was ordering the pizza. Here.” She held out the ice pack and flopped on the couch beside the two. “...Why were you screeching for me? Is something wrong?”
...She wasn’t sure that she could handle it if something was wrong. “...Do you need something to drink? Do you think that would help at all?”

“Tell him I don’t need to go see doctors!” He said, gingerly rubbing his throat. “I'm fine! I don’t need my eyes checked either that’s not a date!” He sighed and leaned his head against Sterling. “I’m fine, I promise; it’s just bruised, so it’s like a shitty sore throat. I’ll make a smoothie. It’s cool.” He was not blushing; he was absolutely not blushing. He leaned and took the ice pack and sighed, pressing it to his neck. “See? ice for swelling, good night sleep, it’s fine, just like my eyes. If I call out, they might put me back on dishes instead of the line!” They probably wouldn’t, but he couldn’t shake the idea that they would.

Karone shared a glance with Sterling and shrugged. “Yeah, sure whatever. Don’t go to the doctors then.” She couldn’t force him...even though she if she could...she would. But that glance shared with the boyfriend...yeah. They could do that. Do something. Obviously he wasn’t an idiot. Not if he made Yu so happy. “Do you want me to head out, Yu? I can go and grab your car and bring it back if you want. If you trust me with the keys.”
She grinned and held her hand out expectantly. “I promise that I’ll try very hard not to get a speeding ticket. Scouts honor.” Not that she had ever gotten a ticket in her life but...he didn’t need to know that.Sterling sighed and kissed his temple again. “Ice pack for swelling, and when your friend leaves, we’ll get you in bed so that you can get the good night's sleep. They won’t put you back on dishes, they’d lose a lot of money from the people that your cooking has brought in if they do something as dumb as that, you know.”
He hesitated and drew the male closer, kissing his ear. “...I just worry about you, moonbeam…” The words were murmured, and he felt...silly with the name...perhaps it wasn’t...no, maybe it was as stupid as it sounds. “...Or whatever. Moon moon might be more appropriate…” His face was pink and he wished he had waited to try and be romantic until after Karone was gone...

He gave a suspicious glance between them, clearly distrusting the arrangement. “Mmm… Should… do you think…” He flustered. “You okay if she stays for dinner?” He asked cautiously. “I… Moon…” He blinked and ducked his head.
Fine… We can do the… fine.” He flustered. He couldn’t say -why- that nickname gave him such a warm feeling, but it was all warm and cozy “You don’t have to worry though, I’m fine, you’ll see.” He flustered and folded his arms. He wasn’t sure which was worse, that he’d folded like a piece of paper under a cute nickname and a kiss on his ear, or that he’d done it in front of Karone.

Karone hadn’t been expecting an invitation to dinner, well. Of course she had ordered dinner for the two of them, but hearing Yu say that he wanted her there made her feel rather warm inside. She gave a small, amused smirk as she watched the two blushing and being all stupid and cute. So gross.
It made her feel very wistful and caused an ache inside of her, missing Gently. But. That ship had sailed. And sank.
Karone stood and laughed softly. “If you want me to stay for dinner, I can, but let me go get your car while we’re waiting for the pizza at least, yeah? That way it’s one less thing to worry about.” And it would give these two dumb lovebirds some much needed privacy.Sterling nodded. “Of course she can stay for dinner. She rescued you. She’s welcome here any time in my book, honestly.” He looked pleased with himself that Yu seemed to have liked the nickname. It was always nice to know that he wasn’t the only one who went weak over being called something cute and endearing.
“I can’t help but worry about you. And if this is how you felt when I got hurt...I’m sorry that I kept downplaying it...I...never want to see you hurt, and I don’t ever want you to have to feel like this either...it sucks.” Sterling let his fingers lightly card through Yu’s hair and gave a soft, pleased sigh. “...I’m glad that you’re okay though. Even though you look terrible...I trust you when you say that you’ll be all right...now, give your friend the keys to the car and let her go get it so that we don’t need to have that worry...and she can come for pizza and we can watch movies until I force you to go to bed.”
It was a good, solid plan, at least he thought so.

“Alright, alright.” He agreed and fumbled for his Keys. He gave them a small toss for Karone to catch and leaned into Sterling again with a soft sigh. “Embarrassing.” He murmured- but there was a tone in his voice that said he was also not truly displeased to be so fussed over. The blush creeping over his cheeks spoke volumes to it as well. “I’ll get cleaned up while you get the car, so I don’t smell like work?” He offered. It was strange just how good all of this felt. Maybe it was how awful the rest of the day had been but this... was like stepping in from the cold and finding a warm soft and heavy blanket set over your shoulders
