When Cavansite received the message from Parisite, she was in the middle of reorganizing her desk, and the office was an absolute mess. She was looking through a stack of papers, throwing most of them into a trashbag when the alert went off on her tablet. Thankfully, she took a moment too look at the message instead of just letting it go until she was at a spot that she could take a look.

It was from Parisite and he was asking for help…but…going to find him would take far too much time…though…

He was powered, and he was asking for her aid, there wouldn’t be any problem summoning him to her to see just what he needed.

With a flicker of power, she drew the lieutenant into her office, busying herself at the couch, taking off some of the things so that Parisite would at least have a place to sit when he arrived.

“What’s up, kid? Did you miss me? Just needed to talk?”

Her back was to him, as she moved stacks of papers to the floor, but she felt the presence of him in the small office.

One moment he was on the ground in the park; the next moment, it was a whole other kind of chill.

At least he still had the ice pack, and in her office, there was no chance that top hat jerk would find him again. God… he smelled like, cinnamon. That b*****d was not going to ruin cinnamon for him.

He allowed himself a small groan from a very, very comfortable position on the floor that he was currently taking up.
“Well… got a few…questions.”

His voice still sounded like s**t; he was hoping the little wheeze when he breathed might go away, but it was irritatingly persistent.

“G’me a sec though.”

The ice pack crinkled as he shifted it on his neck. The cold hurt and felt good at the same time. Probably he should have put some cloth between it and him, but he didn’t super want to figure out how to undo the cloth belt on his uniform; it looked unnecessarily complicated last time he’d checked it out in a shop window.

Cavansite paused at the sound of his voice and turned around, her eyes growing wide with concern. “What hell, Parisite? What happened to you?”

Quickly, she moved over to him and after taking half a moment to dump the rest of whatever was on the couch unceremoniously to the floor, she scooped the lieutenant up, laying him down on the well-worn sofa. “Take all the seconds you need…” She smoothed back his hair and got up to get some water, coming back with a glass of it. “Who the hell did this? I’ll skewer them.”

Her eyes were blazing with a barely concealed rage and she went back to stroking his hair, worry obvious even through her anger.

Nobody had any right at all to do this to her lieutenant. He was hers to protect. And now she had failed him.

The way she lifted him, that was a shock, maybe less after what he’d just run into. Like there was so much more to this than strange costumes.
His head still pounded, but it was at least starting to taper off.

He grimaced and shifted the ice pack to his head, all the same, easing the cold on his neck and trying to reduce the headache.

He had to shake his head slightly because he didn’t know who it had been.

“Brown, top hat… no idea.” He said hoarsely and grimaced. “Came out of nowhere, blew something, n’ my face. Then he was just…”

He waved a hand, trying to encompass everything the man had spouted—an infection, incapable of love, no one to miss him. “Dude in teal saved my a**,” he admitted. “Don’t think he was supposed to.”

“I don’t know what to tell my boyfriend.”

Boyfriend?” Cavansite blinked and broke into a grin. “Is it your housemate? The one you were obviously half in love with the last time we talked? How could you keep something like that from me? You’re so mean!” She shoved some more of the things on the floor out of the way and knelt beside the couch, playing with Parisite’s hair and holding out the water and a small bottle of ibuprofen. “We can’t tell him the truth, obviously. We can say that you got mugged? In the middle of a gang of thugs trying to steal your garlic chicken recipe?”

Her eyes were appraising his condition and she gave a sigh of frustration. “If I find anyone with a brown top hat…Well. That’s neither here nor there.”

The idea of someone helping him though,

Perhaps one day she could thank whoever that was, no matter what side of things they were on.

“Can you breathe okay? Do you want me to get you sitting up a little? Take the medicine, Parisite.”

“Oh yeah… breathing fantastic.” He said with a small grimace; there was a little sarcasm.

“Feels like I swallowed glass and gravel but, I'm breathing. That’s a plus.”
He let out a small huff of breath and took medicine.

“Who the hell tries to strangle someone in a mugging?” He did laugh; he rather regretted at the idea of robbing him for the Garlic chicken recipe.
“Maybe I pissed them off being sassy. Or because I had no…man cash.”

Swallowing sucked, but it was better than nothing, right?
“He did it with one ****ing hand.” He said disbelievingly. “I thought the talking cat was probably the worst of them.

He tried to sit up more, feeling less like a dishrag now that he was breathing actual air and replenishing what he lost.
“I'm fine; I'm breathing… promise.” He sighed.
“b*****d knelt on me; I didn’t have a chance. I hate that, I'm not this bad at, I mean, I guess I am but…”

"He called us an infection, the ****er in the top hat."

Cavansite reached up to gently rub at his temples, frowning slightly. “I don’t know. I’ve never been mugged but…perhaps…I don’t know. The city is dangerous, it won’t take too much of a lie to make something up. Maybe someone just felt like trying to kill someone tonight.” She let out a soft sigh. “I’ve got you, Parisite. You’re safe with me.” There was nothing that he had to fear. Not when she was around.

“You’re not bad at anything, and he had no right to say that about you. You said he had a top hat…was there anything else? Did he have wings on his hips…or perhaps a cape?”

Knowing just what hurt her lieutenant would close the gap a bit at least. Make it easier to figure out who she had to dismember.

“If you don’t remember, that’s all right. There’s no pressure.”

She reached into her subspace pocket and withdrew a bar of chocolate. “I’ve been saving this for you, if you’d like it. It’s the good stuff.” Cavansite held the bar out, smiling softly.

“I… there might have been; I don’t know. That feeling they give off was big somehow.” He yanked at part of his ‘bangs’ and spun it around his finger, gingerly clearing his throat.

“I didn’t … see a lot before he was just on top of me.” He admitted. “He stepped out of nowhere and blew s**t in my face, Smelled like, cinnamon.” He made a face, still determined not to let the encounter wreck that flavor.
“It might have been wings; my eyes were watering really bad.”

He gave a half-smile and took the chocolate.
“Forgive me if I wait on swallowing anything else for a little, but that is indeed the good stuff.”

“How much stronger are they when they feel bigger like that. That… You’re stronger too; I knew that, but I don’t think I understood that till…” He didn’t finish the thought; it made him feel very small, like a kid again, he hated it.

“I understand¬¬, I wouldn’t want to be swallowing anything either if I had been through what you went through.” Cavansite pursed her lips, refraining from making a terribly inappropriate joke, but gave a sigh in its place. “For us, for most, I think. There are three ranks. I know that the strongest rank of the senshi have wings on their asses. Right at their waist. The knights normally have capes, and so do we, I look the best, of course. But, you’re still a little sprout, though…”

The general gave a soft smile, looking at him with a fondness that made her look much kinder than she normally did. “You’re surprising me, and I’m honestly almost ready to submit your name for an upgrade. You’ll make a fine captain when the General Sovereigns decide to read my notes. Of course…that means you won’t need me as much but, I hope you will still come to me for advice.”

He would be able to teleport when he was a captain, but she could show him how. “…I’ll have to find another new lieutenant and put them under your care. Give you some responsibility.” She looked so happy. “…Grow our family, a little, hm?”

“Oh god… You should be sure before you have me teaching anyone.” He laughed gingerly.

“Believe me when I say I’ll be coming to you for advice, though.” He shook his head.
“You saved me from that ******** finding me again after all.” He shook his head, gingerly.

“Uh, I don’t have the best or… more plausible way home. I don’t suppose you’d like to trade dinner for an escort. We can say you scraped me off the pavement. It would almost not be a lie; I was just in the park when you did the uh… I dream of genie thing.”

“I’m quite sure. You’re doing very well, even with this. It’s rough, I will admit but it shows me that you’re being active. You’re actually going out and doing things. You’re not just sitting on your haunches and expecting me to forget you or…anything to that effect.” She watched him still, pleased that he seemed to be steadying just a little. “Do you think I’d just leave you to get home on your own? Absolutely not. I’ll be taking you home, and meeting this boyfriend of yours, because I haven’t forgotten just because you didn’t answer me. And I’m not going to forget, little brother.”

Cavansite grinned, reaching up to ruffle his hair.

“It’s my job as your General and your self appointed older sister to approve of this boy you’ve chosen. I need to know that he’s good enough for my little Parisite.”

Actually, she had no rights to anything, but that didn’t really matter. “I promised you I wouldn’t just…call you to me without warning, but since you asked for help, I figured it was a good time to use that skill.”

“It was a super good time to do that.” He shifted the ice pack again, wincing at the touch of it. “And you can…definitely meet the boyfriend, he uh…” He cleared his throat and winced.
“Got me with my own name. I’ll explain that later.” He offered a half-hearted grin.

“He’s going to lose his mind, he’s like, perfect and … I’m gonna show up looking like a fight club looser.”

Cavansite nodded and simply watched the male for a few moments. “Got you with your own name, hm? I’m glad it came back to bite you in the a**. I’m excited to meet him. But…I don’t see how you’re any different than normal, aren’t you always coming home looking like a fight club…something? Maybe not loser but…like you’ve always been in a fight?”

She was teasing and stood, stretching for a moment before picking the male up into her arms again. “Go back to your civilian form, I’ll get you home so Mr. Perfect can pamper you for the next few days or so. And I’ll stick around and do a little patrolling to see if I can’t find Sadistic Cinnamon.”

This was her family. This weight in her arms was someone who she truly cared about. If she could stop the ******** senshi who had done this…she would.

It had been a while since she wore a starseed on her uniform…perhaps it was time to go out and get one again. After all…it was pumpking spice season, wasn’t it? What was better than cinnamon.
