Quote: As if the eerie fog isn't enough to deal with, once the sun goes down you must take shelter quickly--or risk the beast of this land. While there is sometimes the sensation of being watched, it worsens when the sun goes down. A shadow can sometimes be seen outside, but if it catches you in the window it will attack. If it senses life in any building, it will batter against the door, scrape against the walls, and clatter at the windows. An overwhelming sensation of dread and fear seems to roll in with the creature. It cannot break into the buildings, but it can damage them--just never enough to get inside. Once a house is damaged, it is not safe to return to unless it is repaired before nightfall. The creature can splinter wood, claw at bricks, and crack or shatter glass. It can wail like a banshee and can linger for moments or hours throughout the night. It is always gone before sunrise. All right, so they'd established night was bad and that they were all effectively under a curfew. In any other given universe he'd probably have been happy about that, there existed something outside that kept them at bay during hours when most sane people would have been asleep anyway. Unfortunately for the senshi, the time when he could have made use of this curfew had long passed and with his sleep schedule thoroughly shot to pieces, it was safe to say that he was bored.
...How often could one stare at the ceiling before they started seeing things on it, and more importantly, had he covered some of those cracks enough so that the god forsaken mist didn't get in? Arguably this was the most important concern and while he had been reassured during the day that the walls looked fine, that didn't mean that their repairs didn't cast any suspicious shadows along crudely covered dents and hairline fractures.
He hadn't even begun to consider what time it might have been at this point and with only the company of the sound of sleeping animals (some of which enjoyed snoring), he was on his own for the most part. The mirror senshi had isolated herself for the evening, clearly preferring her privacy, and it seemed that Metis had done much the same. He couldn't judge either of them for that given that separate rooms and something of your own could be relatively important.
Didn't mean he enjoyed listening to a pair of wheezy, snoring felines though.
With the silence periodically broken but a quiet snore here and there he had resigned himself to a night of nothing, only for this to be disrupted by something akin to scratching outside. Though it hadn't necessarily reached their own household yet, the peculiar and almost guttural sound, broken periodically by the wail of something not from this world made him sit up and narrow his eyes.
Was company on the cards?
He was quietly rising to his feet to move towards the door, if only to catch a glimpse of a shadow outside the window... one that also seemed to spot him in the same instant.
Well, s**t.
What came next was a little more than just a distinct croon, it was a rather distinct crack of splintering wood.
It was safe to say that the man had already hurled himself at the door to at least try and kick the nearest, heaviest piece of furniture in front of it.

She was forming a hatred towards this place.
The eerie fog with its horrifying hallucinations. The freezing nights that made her want nothing less than a fire roaring next to her bed and electric blankets to cocoon herself in. The lack of proper bathing facilities. The lack of other outfits...
Never mind the Chaotic auras she had to keep dealing with. The Dark Mirror ones, she decided, weren't... so bad. It had made her skin crawl at first, constantly sensing them, but Shaowei and Elsa had already shown themselves to be kind, friendly sorts. Enough that she'd pushed herself to ignore how her brain wanted to have a knee-jerk reaction to their auras. Corrupt auras, though. Negaverse auras... those she wasn't okay with. At all.
But they were close. She could feel it.
Perhaps that had something to do with her light sleeping that night. Or maybe just the fact she was cold, even as she was snuggled up with Realta, her hands pressed against the warm, furry body. Or maybe, just maybe, it had something to do with the sinking feeling she had in the pit of her stomach, the thing that kept her tossing and turning under the thin blankets she'd found to use from some of the other houses.
Whatever it was, it kept her in just a light enough sleep to become aware of distant sounds. She stirred, frowning into the darkness as copper-silver and yellow energy waves outlined the room around her. Dark brows furrowed. Was... someone crying? No. An animal? No...
In the distance, she could hear something crying out. Wailing, crying. But it wasn't... it wasn't human. It almost reminded her of the cries of coyotes, or perhaps fisher cats--things that at times could almost be mistaken for a woman's hysterical, blood-curdling screams. But it was... off.
It wasn't an animal.
It got louder, closer to the house, and she slowly drew herself up onto her hands, lifting her upper body as she listened. Beside her on the makeshift bed, Realta slept soundly, and Metis hesitated slightly before she fully got up, slipping out of the room silently as bare feet would allow.
It wasn't necessary for her to light a candle or anything. But she could see energy waves from downstairs slowly drifting up the staircase as she began to descend. Mauvian, and senshi. Easy to guess who was down there, though she sighed slightly. Was he at least sleeping..?
A crack of splintering wood made ice race down her spine, and Metis lurched down the rest of the stairs to the ground floor. Immediately, her attention was snagged by the copper-silver figure before the doorway, broad form all but filling it. Something outside the door wailed and snarled, and she blanched. "What the hell was that?"
Dread began to pump into her system, her hands trembling as she went to help push the massive table they'd eaten at earlier in front of the door. "What the <********> is that?"
It didn't really occur to her that two things were likely highly amiss at the moment with her:
The first being how she rarely actually swore in front of others.
The second being her state of dress.
Given she couldn't power down into Lilith, Metis had taken to simply removing various pieces of her uniform to enable herself to be more comfortable. Especially for sleep.
Gone was the corset, the white and black gloves, the black and teal skirts, the black stockings, the white boots, the black collar, the stupid buttwings... even the various accessories she wore were gone--earrings, tiara, choker, ribbons and gold chains. She was left in merely a white high-low dress with puffy sleeves, the long teal ribbon that had wound around her bust used to tie off her long braid she'd done her hair up in after undoing the little braids and curled bun. Metis didn't even have her blindfold on. What was the point?
In that moment, for someone who knew her, she likely just looked like Lilith in a somewhat short front dress with a... well. Probably more than generously low square neckline.
"A-are we under attack?" Her hands shook, nails faintly blue at the cuticles from a mixture of chill and fright. She flinched as she heard something large slam against the door, the wood banging against the doorframe and against the table shoved against it.

At any other given moment the young woman may have been greeted by a flustered or embarrassed man. He was mature enough to have seen unclothed women in his time but that didn't necessarily mean he was ready to see the form of one that he was somewhat close to and happened to have considerable respect for. On those occasions he normally would have turned round, cleared his throat and advised she take whatever measures she needed to make herself less intriguing but at this precise moment in time his thoughts were elsewhere.
Another smack against the door, a shudder of the kitchen table and he was thrown forward slightly with enough strength to stumble momentarily before he could catch his stride properly. It was safe to assume that the beast now knew they were inside, if catching sight of him hadn't been enough of an indication then Metis's rather vocal query would have reinforced their existence.
"A friend," he growled in a somewhat disgruntled fashion, tone steeped in sarcasm as he strode away from the door and simply grabbed her by the waist. Personal space, any form of 'respect', you name it... it all went out the door in those moments as he hauled her away from the door and deposited her soundly on the stairs.
Out of sight.
A finger firmly pressed to her lips and he swept away again, disturbing both felines with an abrupt point that sent them groggily up the stairs and then, well... He made a bit of a gamble.
With two ways in to this premises and the beast firmly fixed on the other it stood to reason that some form of distraction may work. He had no inclination towards running out into the mist but he could spare a hit from the mist for a very brief instant, right? He'd have preferred not to but when it came to these types of situations it was sometimes easier to make the wrong choice as opposed to the right one.
Be Brave.
It was one of Shaowei's scavenged pots that he had chosen as a sacrifice and as he swung the door open he took a deep breath of 'fresh' air and hurled the pot outside. Conveniently sending it barrelling into something unseen with an almighty crash. He'd either found some rogue pans, some rubble, or something else, but the noise rippled across the otherwise quiet expanse and he in turn closed the door very carefully as well.
Silence followed, almost as if something may be considering it's options, and then in an instant the heavy beat of clawed feet could be heard moving towards the sound and their other door.
A door that happened to have several tiny windows to see through.
Suffice to say that the man quickly 'noped' out of the vicinity and made for the stairs, picking up Metis again in her second manhandling of the evening. He'd have to apologise for this later but given he much preferred that they weren't seen again this was his safest option.
"If it can't see us it might go away," he murmured quietly into her ear as he set her down again.
This wasn't his usual haunt, he tended to leave the upstairs to the rest of them, but at the moment he did have to appreciate it was moderately warmer up here (not by much, but better than it had been).
"But my apologies for waking you all up, I don't think it would have been quite so intrigued if it hadn't spotted me in the first place," He grumbled.
