It had taken time, and it had taken encouragement from friends, but at last, Pendour was back out, powered up and wandering the streets on her own. She was still shying away from any Chaos auras. Somewhere deep down, she knew she'd have to go investigate them eventually, that there might be a situation that she could help with and that it was important work, but for now it all seemed like too much. She was still jumping like a startled cat at even the smallest of noises.

For now, it was enough to just get used to the night-city again, to maybe find someone to talk to. She was as interested as always in how the rest of Order was doing, and she couldn't write letters to everyone.

She was in a more commercial area tonight. It had her missing the trees. She liked walking the parks the best, but they had a tendency to attract activity like something terrible. Instead, she walked past sleepy storefronts with most of the lights off.

There might have been an Order aura nearby, but she wasn't sure. She was busy peeking in through store windows. Specifically, she was looking through the window of this antique shop that she'd found herself in front of, and she was admiring the details of some tiny roses painted on a porcelain pitcher.

The man had seethed for a while, ruminating over the news that had reached his ears and the ramifications of it. In some circles what had occurred would have been considered unforgiveable, the consequences of careless actions could have caused untold damage and yet he had yet to come to terms with how he might choose to respond. With no immediate answers forthcoming the senshi had remained silent, and instead, channelled his irritation in to much more constructive endeavours.

This evening was to prove no different as he strode through the streets, pavement softly lit up against overhanging street lamps. With the majority of businesses closed for this evening it gave him the perfect opportunity to move into conduct his own business... What he hadn't anticipated was that he would have company on this particular night.

The faint signature caught his attention and he paused mid-stride, a cursory glance towards it and he moved in that direction. It wasn't too long before he was in the vicinity and Pendour came in to his line of vision. He wasn't quite sure of what she was up to, if she might have seen something within the building, but he afforded himself more time before disturbing her. Suffice to say that he didn't like when people got the jump on him and given she was thoroughly interested in something else, he was likely to cause a disturbance.

It was only when he was at the corner of the building and had paused to plant one of his Mauvian companion's little toys behind the sign that he finally spoke.

"Squinting in to darkened stores is generally considered suspicious," he pointed out and raised a brow. "It's a touch late to be window shopping," he added softly and lowered his arm, sliding both thumbs into his sash as he regarded the woman who stood before him.

A new face.

"But not the most unusual thing I've encountered in recent months," he conceded.

He remained where he was, a comfortable distance from the Page and seemed disinclined to change that for the time being. This was through no fault of her own of course, he just wasn't the sort to breach personal space, in his world it was a fairly important thing to respect.

Pendour had a tendency to lose track of time. She did feel the aura in the distance, and vaguely noted it, but then she spent a while looking at some gold leaf that had a little shimmer, even in the low light. Before she knew it, someone was calling out to her.

It was a senshi, maybe, by the way the aura felt almost sparkling. "Is it?" There was a long pause. Pendour blinked at her reflection in the store window. "Oh. Because I might steal something?" Her tone was gentle, even though she spoke loudly enough for her voice to carry over to him. She turned in the careful, practiced way, so that her scars didn't show so much. It was harder, now, with the gash across her back to worry about, but it was still possible if she maneuvered just right.

"I'm. I'm not going to steal anything. I would never do something like that," she said, giving him as much of a look as she could. He was all in white, with only a little red to break it up. Yes, he was a senshi, then, and not one she'd seen before. "I just like looking at things while I wait to see if anyone else is around. The detailing on some of this china is lovely as can be." If nobody every showed up, she just enjoyed the looking for longer. every once in awhile, she even found something she wanted to buy.

"But you're here now, aren't you?" She blinked again. That sounded a little off, as if she'd just lured him into some trap. She didn't want to be someone who trapped people any more than she wanted to be some night robber. "Or, um, hi. I'm Pendour."

She waved.

"It is, yes," his tone was almost one that implied laughter at her question. She would certainly have attracted his attention if he'd been working, that was for sure. Then again, his own antics would have attracted the very same attention as well. In the grand scheme of things the two of them were acting suspiciously in an otherwise public area and they weren't the kind to look normal as it was.

"And yes," he added to the second part of her question, He paused briefly, if only to cast a quick glance into the shop. A glimpse at what she was referring to and he could at least appreciate what had caught her attention. Nevertheless, with the main streets quiet he did have to wonder why she had chosen here of all places to pick. Suffice to say that he sincerely doubted her motives were the same as his, this wasn't exactly one of his local haunts.

"It's not the most common thing to see an individual walking down a street that's otherwise closed for the evening," he pointed out and then released a sigh. "Unless it's a homeless individual who is seeking a warm doorway," he raised a brow and gave her a rather quick up and down, even if she hadn't had the powered aura he wouldn't have assumed she fell in to that category... to be crude, she had the good fortune of being too clean and well kept.

"I don't expect to see many people in these parts in general once its passed closing it's not the busiest of thoroughfares," he continued after a while. "Which I suppose means I'm somewhat curious as to who you expected to find here," he admitted after a moment.

"Unless I'm soon to be informed this is a much busier spot than I had once assumed?"

He did eventually remember his manners at least and gave a slight bow of his head.

"I'm Athalia, also not a burglar scoping out potential targets." He finished.

If Pendour could hear the hint of amusement in his voice, she didn’t show it. She kept looking at him, head bowed and almost apologetic, and she took a step away from the window.

At the mention of the homeless, she straightened, looking more thoughtful than worried. “Oh, I didn’t think of that,” she said. Her gaze flicked from doorway to doorway, and her shoulders relaxed a little when she found nobody with sad eyes huddled in any of them. There was little she could have done for them right now. “I should have. Maybe tomorrow I’ll bring out hot chocolate and blankets for anyone out here who needs it. It’s getting bitter cold in the evenings, now.”

Would it be dangerous to give out other people’s contact information when she was like this? Her community garden did some work with giving food to people who needed it, and they’d worked with housing organizations before.

Athalia’s question snapped her back to the present moment. Tonight was a little more about the magical side of things. “Oh, um,” he had asked directly, so there was no need to hide it. She turned so the gash was visible, a line that started just above her elbow and ran across her back until it vanished under her dress. It was healed over now, but still an angry shade of pink.

“I was injured a few weeks ago. There was a whole-” she trailed off, swallowed hard, twirled a curl of hair around her finger, and then tried again. “It was a bad situation. My nerves have been awful, since. The anxious part of me says that something else terrible would happen if I tried to power up again.” Her voice never cracked, but it did go quieter. She gestured at the empty street, “So I’m trying to prove that wrong by easing myself back into things a little.”

She looked at him straight on, then. “What about you? You think it’s so strange that I’m here, and yet,” she tilted her head towards him.

"Socks, Gloves, Underwear," he advised. Warm drinks weren't generally something he advised, but when it came to those types of items he would always encourage it. There were some that couldn't be persuaded to stay in a warm location and as a consequence it was better to see them equipped for the weather rather than to leave them completely on their own.

"The vast majority of them tend to know where the soup kitchens are," he added. It wasn't giving away who or what he was, but he did at least seem to be indicating that he had some exposure to those in that part of the community. "That being said I don't think any would say no to something a little extra, just be careful," he mused.

Had he known what he was referring to in regards to the accident that had befallen her, he didn't seem to give it away though. His expression remained neutral for the most part, lips pursing slightly as he regarded the injury. Understandably, anyone who had been subject to an onslaught would be largely hesitant to jump back in to the fray, especially if they still weren't ready to have a whirl at round two.

As for him though...

"Not a busy thoroughfare but still one that's used," he replied and pulled out a small, glittering bug from where he had clipped several to his sash. He held it out, revealing the twitching automaton to the Squire with a wry smile. "It never hurts to be aware of where chaos are congregating, or at least they're direction they're headed in," he explained and returned it to his sash.

"Set them up in enough places and I have a solid view of certain areas of the city," he added. He didn't go in to too much detail, but he definitely wasn't out for commercial reasons!

"You will be pleased to know that this evening has been quiet so your first foray since your fateful experience is likely to stay that way for the remainder of the evening," he paused briefly, glancing towards the crockery that had gained her attention before he'd arrived. "Which is just as well really as it would be a shame to ruin the display," he finished.

Underwear? Pendour’s expression went almost blank at that, as if it were coming completely out of left field, but eventually she nodded. “Oh. You’re right,” she said. “That’s probably more practical.”

Maybe her own day job was showing. She was all about things that looked nice in advertisements. In charity cases, that meant things that tugged at heartstrings and made people want to give money. In some ways her perspective oversimplified things, and then she was left here, forgetting that people needed socks.

Still, with most shops closing for the night, those thoughts would have to wait until tomorrow.

His little bug caught her attention in the same way the china had. She found herself staring, squinting a little to make out the details. It was lovely craftsmanship. It looked as if it could start wiggling at any moment. Then it did twitch, and that sent Pendour blinking, too.

“What is that?” She stepped forwards, breaking the careful distance he’d set. Maybe she went too close. She didn’t always have the best sense of where people’s bubbles began and ended. She just wanted to see. “I haven’t heard of anything like that before. I mean, not really. Um.” she reached out, fingers drifting in front of her as if she might be able to feel any magic that was coming off of it in waves. “You said it can map out Chaos, but does that mean it’s-” she trailed off, her gaze drifting from the object to his brooch. That was a bug, too, and there was even something insectoid about the way the fabric of his outfit sat.

“Your magic?” If he’d been a knight, that would have maybe worked, but everything she knew about senshi had her shaking her head the moment the words left her mouth. “No? Is it an artifact from your world?” That would almost be more interesting, even if the implications were dark.

"If I had that much power then Chaos wouldn't be a problem to begin with," Athalia smiled wryly and held the tiny bug out for her to see more clearly, with his palm open she seemed welcome to take it and inspect it more closely. "But this isn't from my world, inspired by it, but certainly not from it," he added with a small shake of his head.

He'd been slowly learning about his world and how it had once functioned, what technology may have existed, and what society might have been like. It was enough for him to know that while his kind were certainly fond of their bugs, or rather they were them, that didn't necessarily mean that their technology was something to stand in awe at. In the grand scheme of things their magic may have been strong, but their technological pursuits were lacking.

"My Mauvian made them," he explained after a moment and clucked his tongue. "I needed better insight in to the city and where the trouble spots were and he knew how to provide that," he peered down at the gleaming bug and sighed. "His creations are normally much more extravagant and loud, this is one of the more restrained moments in his career," he conceded.

"Although give him a few more months and I'm sure he'll come up with something that makes me reconsider my opinion," he jested. A moment later he had reached round to his sash and pulled out another, larger bug. For want of a better explanation it looked more like a keyring than the large brooch that rested on his chest.

"I'm sure he would be delighted to share one with you as well," he continued and tapped the brooch's wings, the little device flipping open to project the small holographic map. A flicker, and after a moment the screen updated to reveal both of them on the screen, or rather dots that effectively represented them.

"You can see allies as well, you won't know how they are, but the insects can detect them too. It's just another way for people to call for help if they need it," he pursed his lips. "It's a lot easier to find someone on the run if you can see them running towards or away from you after all," he pinched the screen to zoom in to their building in particular, then spread his fingers back out again to zoom further out.

...Nothing else appeared to be on the map in their immediate vicinity for the time being.

"It was designed so that I could gate crash parties and prevent people from getting hurt," he mused and shook his head. "In the end it seemed like it would have wider uses."

"Which is rather like Orias, why have one feature when you can strap on several complimentary ones at the same time?" he hazarded. "Which, while frustrating, I concede was rather wise in hindsight... Not everyone wants to crash a party, they just want to avoid being ambushed and this might well help them with that."

"You-" there was a pause, and not just because Pendour accepted the little device and examined it. She brought it up to her good eye and saw the way the metal glistened. She ran a finger over each spindle-thin leg in turn. Then she looked back up, her brows knitted just a little in a question. "You own a Mauvian?"

Was that how that worked? She knew Mauvians looked like cats, but she'd been around enough of them now to know that they didn't act like cats, really. "Do you mean your friend, or- Wait. Orias?" She blinked at the name, and then blinked again. That raised even more questions.

It was almost as hard to imagine Orias, with his attention constantly flipping between beer and odd experiments, and Athalia, barely more expressive than stone from what she'd seen, being friends as it was to imagine some kind of pet situation. The devices looked familiar, though, the more she looked at them. The map, especially, looked like what he'd pulled out at her wonder, even if it wasn't quite the same.

"So he did find a way to track, um, what did he call them? Chaos hotspots?" Her voice was gentle, and the short-lived look of surprise was replaced by a soft smile. "He was working on it when I talked to him before." She handed back the smaller but and focused in on the holographic map instead. "He must have been getting close even then. He mapped out my wonder with something like this."

As if she were suddenly remembering herself, she took half a step backwards. "What do you mean by parties, though? I don't think I've ever seen the Negaverse have any meetings out in the open." She didn't know if there would be, either. The tender scar on her back was a reminder that such things were terribly risky.

"I believe we are connected by more than friendship," Athalia replied with a slight shrug of his shoulders. He didn't quite understand it himself, but he had a connection with the loud-mouthed Mauvian and it was deeper than the one he seemed to have with Namielle. He couldn't describe it either, it was more of a feeling than anything. It might have been fate that brought them together but ultimately they were meant to be that way... Even if Athalia did have to question why it had to be that one on occasions.

...The damn cat was nuts.

"Hardly a pet though, I suspect he'd be offended if I called him anything of the sort," he admitted as he slipped the little device back into his sash and sighed. "And I'm sure there's a part of him that might well argue that I am his minion," he pointed out. Given that the Mauvian did seem inclined to believe he was the best of the best, it was perfectly logical for him to be of the view that Athalia was all brawn and no brain!

"But I can confirm these work," he continued with a wry smile. "Field tested before they went live on a more permanent basis."

She didn't need to know the ins and outs of that particular field test, how they had almost brought down a warehouse on top of them in pursuit of results. All she needed to know was that the devices were working as intended, What she would do with that information though was entirely up to her.

A momentary pause did follow and he did frown after a moment as some of her words sank in. If he'd heard her correctly then it meant that she'd met Orias before and if he knew Orias then the bloody cat had no filter - hell she'd also taken him to her Wonder and he could only imagine what he'd gotten up to there. Minor dread flickered across his features, brief but visible, before he finally settled it back into something more calm.

"You have my sincerest apologies," he said finally and cleared his throat. He didn't know if the Mauvian had actually done anything crude, but it was better to be safe than sorry.

"As for parties," he returned to the topic at hand. "A figure of speech but Chaos does congregate on occasions and while some are capable of handling it, others aren't. This just happens to show where they are so that you can make that choice before it's removed from you," he pointed out. He'd seen them in groups before, not armies, but he'd encountered more than one at once and things hadn't gone as well as he would have liked... Next time, he'd prefer to be ready for it.

Next time, he might well win.

Pendour nodded. “So is it magic that’s connecting you? I feel like that with other Neptune knights, a little.” Magic did a lot of things that she didn’t understand, and Mauvians in particular were still a little bit of a mystery to her. There was the other possibility that they were dating, since that was apparently what people meant sometimes when they said something was deeper than friendship, but that was just too much to think about, even for her, and so she didn’t ask.

Athalia didn’t look happy when talking about Orias at her wonder. The map went forgotten as her own brows knitted in turn. “Apologies for what?” she asked, her voice mild. It was a sincere and honest question. “He and Irving had a little, um, spat? But I’m not angry about that. Irving is-” she trailed off, and swallowed, “Well, he’s cruel, and he was probably the one saying the more offensive things.” She tried to think back to the exact words, but it was all coming up like fuzz.

She could remember going on about sparkles and gardens, though. “And I think Orias thought I was strange. Not all there,” she said, and shrugged. “But that’s nothing new. I’m missing an eye and I talk to plants and I even come across as a thief, maybe.” She smiled at that, just a little, just enough to show that she didn’t mind if he thought she was strange, too. “He never tried to hurt me or anything, which is more than I can say about some other Mauvians.”

She glanced down to the web of her thumb, where the faint curve of claw marks were still barely visible.

Her voice had never gone accusatory. It was earnest and curious and that was all. He had been a little intense, but it had never gotten to the point where it was a problem, and of course she wasn’t going to say that to the face of his-

His minion?

No, that didn’t sound right, even in her head.

“Um, can I ask why?” she said. “I mean, did he tell you some version of this story?” Had the fight with Irving been a little more intense than she remembered, maybe? Her eyes narrowed in concentration. “I don’t think he said anything about you.”

"Your level of tolerance and patience must be impressive," Athalia shook his head as she seemed to apologise for whatever encounter had occurred on her Wonder. He'd never been to one personally but he knew of them. What he had been most concerned about were the antics of his companion, one who was deeply flawed in regards to manners and tact, one that was likely to cause offence, touch things he shouldn't, or worse still...pilfer things that weren't his so that he could use them for some sort of invention.

"Orias isn't known for his tact and he's rather inclined to make remarks that would be considered otherwise offensive," he pointed out gently. He shook his head at the thought of anyone apologising to him for what have happened on their wonder. "Nor is he particularly good at recognising that people are not there to serve him as he pursues fame and glory," he added with a wry smile.

"If they had any form of spat I imagine a part of it was instigated by my companion," he admitted. "That is where my apology comes in, alongside any other woeful commentary he may have made when he shouldn't have," he added.

Sure, she may have spoken to plants, but what harm did that do to people?

Odd, but none of his business either.

"If it helps I have no idea what happened, I can only apologise because I am aware of how he is and how he is perceived on occasions," he added. If their journey and adventure was meant to be private ad personal, then it would remain that way and the Senshi didn't seem inclined to push that either.

"As to how we're connected..." he shrugged. "Magic seems to be about as much detail as I can give you, he possesses the ability to reach me when no other can and it would seem it has always been that way," he chuckled. "For better or for worse," he murmured.

"So long as he didn't cause any harm I'll be relieved, at least I won't have to try and work out how to repair something in a magical world far beyond my own," he finished. "I think that might be a little outside my capabilities."

Pendour blinked. "Maybe?" She knew it took more to get her all ruffled up than it did for most people, but she didn't think it had required patience to keep up with a Mauvian who moved at a million miles an hour.

"Well, I accept your apology on his behalf if you really think it's needed," she said, although her brows were still slightly knit in mild confusion about where this all was coming from. "You could apologize to Irving if you wanted. He'd maybe appreciate it?" Pendour still had a hard time knowing what her ancestor was thinking, but he'd never snapped about someone apologizing too much or having too good of manners.

He was always telling her that she needed more practical friends. Maybe he'd actually like this one.

"Nothing's broken, though," she added. "Or, um, nothing's more broken. It started out all ancient and crumbly. I think Orias would have needed more than beer in his space pocket if he really wanted to do damage, though. Bombs, maybe?" She giggled softly at the thought, although she stopped as she realized that it was a very possible thing and spent a moment in silence instead.

"Although you might end up trying to fix things in space anyway," she said eventually, her eyes refocusing. "Have you been to your world?" She leaned forwards, and for the first time, she looked at him with the same curiosity that she'd looked at the plates with earlier. "They're all so lovely in their own way, but they're all in awful shape."

"He has those," Athalia warned. Granted he was fairly confident most were in bits and the damn cat had to reconstruct them from the materials he pulled out of there, but he'd seen the Mauvian tape a fair few explosives together to form odd little grenades and was suddenly very grateful that he hadn't decided to pull them out in the middle of Pendour's Wonder.

"I can, however, extend an apology to Irving if you would prefer," he raised a brow. "Although I'm not entirely certain I know who Irving is, you have life on your Wonder?" he asked curiously. He remained in the dark regarding some of the aspects of Knighthood and the concept of a 'living' Ancestor (in some capacity) would have been a baffling one indeed. Truthfully he might even have been a touch jealous, imagine what he could have learned from his former self if he had access to him.

Nevertheless with apologies out of the way the Squire had found an interest in him and he paused momentarily as she leaned forward.

"I have been more than a few times," he confirmed with a small nod. "I wouldn't say it's in awful shape, it's just..." he pursed his lips. How would he describe his world? It didn't appear to be in ruins, but it had certainly 'died' for want of a better word. Endless silence had greeted him and not even the scarcest whisper of wind had touched upon his ears in the beginning and then...

Well.

After a while it had reached out to him.

"Desolate and lonely. The civilization that it once harboured is long gone and as of yet I haven't discovered what happened to them," he admitted after a few moments. "If you are looking for colour though, you would find yourself disappointed," he offered a wry smile. "It's very beige," he pointed out.

"If anything it's like walking through a frozen forest, everything is petrified," he shrugged loosely. "But perhaps in time it will tell me the rest of its story, whatever or whomever exists within its core has never seen fit to rush itself, that's for sure," he pointed out.

Truthfully he didn't know whether or not the planets were alive, he didn't know if a spirit or entity existed within them, but the power they were imbued with certainly did something and whether that was intentional sentience or simply the equivalent of animalistic instinct was something that was likely to remain far beyond the realms of his understanding.

"Nothing alive or capable of speech though," he smiled. "At least nothing I've needed to apologise to yet," he finished.

...Though in a way, he genuinely believed that having something like Irving within his midst would have been a wonderful thing indeed.

Pendour slowly shook her head. "Not life life," she said. "Um, death? Undeath? Lingering spirits? Irving is a ghost."

She was silent for a moment as she fidgeted with her signet ring and tried to figure out the best way to explain it all. "He was the previous knight of Pendour, and he's my ancestor. I don't think senshi ever have ancestors waiting for them on their world. Your magic is more-" she paused again, fingers fluttering in front of her before she rested her hand on her chest, over her starseed. "Spiritual? You get your memories directly from your world, from what I've heard. Knighthood is more about, um, training or something? We've got ancestors to guide us, sometimes."

Her soft smile faltered, and she went back to spinning her ring around her finger, faster and faster now. "Which I'm sure is lovely when it goes smoothly, but Irving can be, um. Controlling, and manipulative, and volatile."

Her voice stayed steady. She wasn't upset right now, just stating facts. Eventually, she met Athalia's gaze again. "You can meet him if you want to, though. He might even approve of you."

Irving thought that most of her friends were either reckless troublemakers, or too soft, like she was. Athalia seemed confident and steady, though. She had yet to see anything that she thought would set Irving off.

"Your world sounds lovely," she added, her smile returning, even bigger than before. "Even if it's dead as dead, or as beige as an old cafeteria. I've never heard of something like a petrified forest." Of course it was going to be a little bit broken. Something terrible had happened to these places, and they'd been sitting in ruins for a thousand years or more. It didn't mean they weren't beautiful in their own melancholy way. They were certainty endlessly fascinating, partially because Pendour didn't know what secrets they held.

"You can always bring up some paint, if it bothers you," she said. "Or maybe even some seeds." She tilted her head. "I've worked on a few space gardens, now."
