As Yui would respond after his story that she understood, and would go on to explain the lessons she took from it, he would nod and smile slightly to her. 'I am glad I was able to convey that much to her.' He thought to himself; a little ashamed of his own actions when young, but having long come to terms with it and comfortable around Dove in speaking of it. Even if it was only half the story of how it helped make him who he was. But this half, at least, did the best in conveying how everyone suffered loss and that it was what they did after that mattered. Though she would say how her own loss was a bit of a mix; how at times it helped her burn bright or have her fire snuffed out. It was not an easy balance to do...Garret's anger for the Grimm was the one thing he could rely on in using it to push himself. He hated the feeling of being helpless and weak; of being powerless like he once was. Both in childhood and in adolescence. "It is not an easy thing to balance. Anger is a good way to do so but...it can also blind you. You will need to find your own way to use the sacrifice. As long as you try, you will one day succeed." He would simply say, though curious on her own story of loss now that he shared part of his. But it would be something to ask after her other story. He was glad though, despite the sadness of his own story, he could still light her fire in an instant. His throwing in the towel comment was met by one of him throwing his spear as she flew ahead; an amusing thought and comeback, one he had not been expecting. 'I'm glad to see your wits have not dulled in the slightest.' He thought to himself silently. He particularly enjoyed how he got her desire to know more, but could deny it for now as their trade of stories went on. As she told him to fasten his spears, he would roll his eyes slightly but watch/ listen intently as she would begin her story.

He found it interesting how, after the near death experiences, Dove had pep in her step and seemed very energized in getting everyone back to the camp. Her tone shift from optimistic was curious though as she would go on to speak of how they returned, reported, and wanted to go in to help the other squad but was denied. Explaining cave instability and and saboteurs at large as why she was denied but...Garret also found it strange of why she could not be re-deployed if she was able and willing. Not knowing enough of the details for it to really place judgement on if it were wise or not; hearing her disappointment though was a clear sign of what she seemed to think of it, and he was inclined to side with Dove as he trusted her. He thought it good she could not take inaction; and upon hearing Aurtrox encouraging her, Garret had a thoughtful look for a moment. 'I wonder what he knew and suspected; but it is good he recognizes her ability.' Garret thought silently. Aurtrox seemed to have a hand in many a things. But Garret knew the man to mostly be a force for good and against the Grimm; as adamantly as Garret was in the latter regard. She would then begin to tell of a horde of beowolves; which was surprising to think so many would be underground there. Making Garret wonder if there were other such caverns that may be a spawning grounds for those creatures. A thought that did not sit well with him, though he would focus more on her story. How she would even be ignored by them as they sought something further in there; her intuition being that it may be the other students. As she further described how they climbed the cliffs, it almost sounded like the end times. If that many were to leave the cavern, they may even be able to breach the walls of Vale itself. And having an Alpha unlike she had ever seen; something Garret was curious for details on would wait on till she finished her story. She would focus on her attempt to reach alpha; how the Grimm threw themselves to their deaths in an attempt to reach her now. And how they eventually succeeded; latching on and pulling her down with them it seemed. Making Garret wondered how she could've escaped before she would continue. She would explain how she was caught and how it felt, her burning desire to do something and not be stopped. Of a particular sensation she felt in her hands and how she would go into an inferno to incinerate everything in her way. She could apparently...impale herself with dust, and power up her fire that way. 'A rare occurrence...I wonder what she may be able to do in future.' He pondered silently. Giving her a nod at seeing her pride in it; his own slight encouragement for her to explore her abilities. She would mention how she combined explosive dust, and got rid of the entire of the entire cliffside along with alpha. That was...a lot of power for her to get rid of a horde of Grimm. Though...the alpha seemed to have survived, and even seemed to embody her flames as it came for them. Thankfully, the cliff seemed to give way but a student was lost; not to the fall or Grimm, but an unknown assailant. 'Who would have done such a thing...' He wondered silently, especially given all that had been occurring that time. The mission had seemed like a set up from what he heard.

It seemed the immediate danger had passed, though knowing Dove it must've been a hard loss to have come so far but not be able to save one. Her arm had been a mess from that, but she was alright otherwise and managed to reconvene with the surviving students. One of which, someone named Nox, had managed to even draw the dust from her veins. 'Someone to look into in the future.' He noted to himself. Though it was added how the crystal changed, and as she took it out, Garret would expect it. Seeing it almost like blue flames within the crystal itself; matching no known crystal which was the most curious. Perhaps it was the fusion of her aura, blood, and crystal. But Garret was no expert on such things so he could not say. Though he remained silent; not having much to say but nodding to her once done inspecting it. She would then say how they managed to escape after, with her detainment for disobeying orders, and regretfully unsure of what became of Reikka. The apparent missing student here. "If Aurtrox knows of it, he would be doing what he can. He is not one to give up easily; and I am sure he would alert you to any developments." Garret would say; a small assurance to her, but all he could truly offer for that. He knew Aurtrox would not give up a future fighter of Grimm easily. And he was the best person to find someone gone missing. But it was good she was more focused on herself, or so he assumed, as she did save the others and still had much to do within her own life. As she recapped though, Garret could not help but smile and let out a chuckle. "I am unsure. It could have used a few more one on one fights against impossible odds, but it shall do." He would say as a light jest to her, finding her story to be nothing short of incredible for all that was accomplished. Especially with the context of what happened prior. As she would change it back to him, inquiring more on how he became the man he was today. He smiled, glad to have caught her attention with it. Oddly...willing to share his past with her, and open about it. "Very well, I shall continue. I am sure I can come up with something to ask afterwards." He would say with a smile before getting a distant look to his eyes as he pondered. Guard a bit down for the time being as they travelled.

"For many a year after his homes fall, the young warrior would train. Honing his hatred for the creatures that took his family...hatred for his own weakness. Where once he disdained fighting and preferred knowledge, he now shunned such things and his responsibility as heir. All he desired was revenge; to take as many of them down as he was able before his own death. But the knight who saved him did not give him a choice; teaching the young Reveley both history, values, and the art of fighting with both his spears. Where once he struggled with just one, his motivation had led him to being a natural with two as he quickly learned how to fight with both. And while he understood his family and their history...he still wanted nothing to do with it. His one desire was to fight Grimm." Garret would start, tone neutral as he referred to himself distantly still. As if it were an entirely different person; which it may have been from what he had said thus far. As far as any knew, he was not someone driven by revenge. After a few moments he would continue. "Together they travelled on a long land journey from Vacuo to Vale. His mentor doing jobs and fighting while forcing him to stay out of it; saying he was not ready. Though this did nothing to deter the hot-headed and brash youth as he felt he was being underestimated. They travelled for many years, picking up another for a time...until one fateful day. They were escorting a caravan that came under Grimm attack. As usual, the Reveley teen was told to stay out of it but...shortly after his mentor left a Grimm came by unaware of him. Seeing it as his shining moment...he grabbed his spears and attacked." Garret would pause now...sorrow entering his voice as he continued. "While having honed his skills for many years, it was an entirely different experience to be fighting a man versus a Grimm. He managed to get blows in but the Grimm remained standing. It would fight back in a deadly game with the boy; who did his best to dodge and strike when he could. But it could not last; the Grimm overpowering him and knocking away his spears. The boy closing his eyes as his last thoughts were bitter on not being able to take a single Grimm despite all his training." Garret would say with another pause as a...tear crossed his face. "But the final blow never came. Instead, as he opened his eyes, he saw a familiar form in front of him. His mentor who had taken the blow to protect him; and who was subsequently discarded by the Grimm. Enraged, the young Reveley would activate his semblance for the first time; in a whirlwind of blows he would drive his spears deep into the beast until it was no more. Victorious over his first Grimm...though a hollow victory as he went by his fallen mentor. Being with him for his final words as he was tasked with the goal of surviving...to restore his home, and eradicate the Grimm. A bond made in blood for a dying mans wish. From that day forth, Garret swore to never let anyone rely on him. To be alone so no one would ever die for him again. And...he swore to be a Reveley not just in name, not just in combat, but in life." Garret would finish, his voice trailing off towards the end as he stared down to the ground. Fists clenched at the memory. He would pause, before looking up to Dove again. Expression still sad and a single tear streak still on his face as he tried to smile and continued. "Though I suppose I may be breaking this vow now as...I've learned my task is impossible without allies or aid. And that it....is hard to keep people at bay." He would finish softly, a smile playing his lips as he wiped away the tear streak now. "I have...learned much since then, since being at Beacon. Now that I have shared that...may I know more about your own loss?" He would ask in a rather...kind voice, even if his own request was far more direct.
