He was not expecting Sterling to have fallen asleep part way through the movie. He was expecting even less to have Sterling leaning against his shoulder when he did so. If he’d just fallen asleep on the couch, he might have tried to carry him to bed, or at least give him the couch and a blanket because Sterling was still, taller than him which would make it awkward. Realizing he was asleep though, It was a bit like having your foot caught in a trap, but somehow, you also didn’t -want- to escape, so he just… stayed there, It didn’t seem like Sterling was in a bad position, and if he could get sleep with sore ribs then this was fine… He made himself as comfortable as he reasonably could without moving his housemate, leaned his head back and shut his eyes. Maybe he could make cinnamon rolls tomorrow, the dough was prepped and waiting in the fridge because he’d planned to make them over the weekend, but tomorrow worked just as well, and the icing wasn’t too hard to make. He remembered after a moment to find the remote, turning off the television and DVD player with a soft sigh. who would have ever thought there would be a day he was used as a pillow? he laughed softly before letting himself drift towards sleep.

When Sterling woke, he was more than a little confused as to where he was. The only thing that really mattered was the fact that he was comfortable…and very warm.
He frowned slightly and looked around, rubbing at his eyes. His glasses were missing…or…no, there they were. Folded neatly on the table beside the couch…and he had…ended up sleeping cuddled up with Yu all night long. Perhaps that was why he had slept so well. And dreamed…something. Something safe.
Giving a soft sigh, Sterling leaned over and hesitated a moment before pressing a soft kiss to Yu’s temple, before beginning to play with his hair again, resting his head in the crook of his neck and breathing out another soft sigh. His chest still hurt, but it felt a bit better today…still. He wouldn’t say no to some pain killers.

He woke because Sterling stirred, freezing like he was caught in the headlights of an oncoming car as he felt Sterling shift, something soft brushing his temple before fingers traced through his hair again. Breathing into the curve of his neck. Ohhh yeah, this was going to be awkward in a moment, or less. “…. morning.” He said in a tentative whisper. “h-how are you feeling? Um...I can bring you Asprin. And uh...that, cinnamon roll dough we made is still in the fridge. It shouldn't be a disaster because you helped make it.” If he kept talking maybe he wouldn't think about the warm breath against his neck.

Sterling felt his mood sink just a little. Yu was awake…they…oh well. It had been nice. Nice to be warm for a little while.
He gently drew away and yawned, rubbing his eyes once again. “Good morning, Yu…Sorry for falling asleep on you…you didn’t have to stay, you should have woken me…” But already he was asking if Sterling needed pain killers…talking about making breakfast.
…It was…so very nice to be taken care of.
“Yes…if you wouldn’t mind too much. Asprin sounds quite good right about now, and…if you want to make the cinnamon rolls, I can come sit out in the kitchen and walk you through anything you don’t understand…or I can just…get everything prepared if you want me to?”
He let his fingers slide gently through the male’s hair once more and drew his hand away. “And, stop that…nothing you’ve cooked has ever been a disaster.”

“I didn’t…say you had to move either.” He said glancing away as best as he could without…moving. “I mean if you’re comfortable….” He half whispered. “I’ll make the rolls, don’t worry, I can… I can call questions, and, you, well you haven’t seen me try and bake on my own. I don’t know WHAT Elder god you sacrificed what bag of sugar to, but , things that are supposed to be dry are sticky, things that are supposed to be sticky are dry… it’s, not good. But if it’s just frosting I think I can do this.” He exhales softly. “Are you, are you okay to sit up?” He asked gently. “You don’t have to, I… I can stay here a while.” He sank his sharp tooth into his lower lip.

He hesitated and gently moved to rest his head against Yu’s shoulder once again. “…I’m okay to sit up. But…If you wouldn’t be unhappy to stay here a while…it doesn’t hurt so much when I’m laying like this…” Nothing could hurt when he was laying like this, Sterling thought, closing his eyes once again.
“I can help you bake, if you want. It’s…not that hard. You just have to have patience. And you have to really measure. With cooking you can change things up on a whim but…”
He took a moment to breathe in the scent of his housemate and felt strangely comforted by it.
“…Baking you have to be good. You have to have structure. Discipline.” Sterling began to smile and his voice grew slightly teasing. “…Sometimes I wonder if you have any of that, Yu.” Not that he thought that it was a bad thing. In fact, quite the opposite was true.

Yu sat and thought about it for a moment, like he was putting effort into showing thinking about it and then said, with great aplomb. “….NOPE, not a lick.” He nodded. “… maybe part.” He added softly. “I was just never a fan.” He huffed a small laugh. “And I’m not, I’m not gonna be offended. I said you could if you were comfortable.” He huffed a small sigh and thought for a moment. “Yeah… Cooking, you adjust to the temper of the ingredients, it’s….smell and taste and you need that flex, especially since ripeness and stuff can change how…uh yeah you know.” He huffed.

Sterling tried to keep a straight face, but he began to laugh, as he always seemed to when Yu was around, only…laughter really hurt right now and he winced, stiffening and moving away. “Ah…ow. Bad idea. Very…very bad idea.”
Tears had come into his eyes and he struggled up off of the couch, hissing softly in pain. “…I’m going…to get some aspirin, and some more chocolate milk if we have it…and I can meet you in the kitchen? If you make the eggs and sausage, I can get the cinnamon rolls ready for the oven and all you have to do is put them in and take them out?”
He forced a smile and wiped quickly at his still streaming eyes.
“It’s a fair trade…and we can have a good breakfast together!” It wasn’t fair. He had been so comfortable sitting on the couch with Yu…it had almost felt like…
…like something…out of a romance novel. And honestly, Sterling was living for it…

A flash of worry in his eyes at the sounds of pain, but he gripped the couch to try and make sure he didn't just...grab and try and pry details out of the attack out again. He should have more sympathy with street kids, but... they attacked STERLING, and that was just... That just wouldn't do. “All the rolls need is sliced up and put in a tray.” he promised. I’ll get some ice packs on the table for you too.” He added anxiously. “I don’t… think we have any chocolate milk left but, I could make hot chocolate?” He offered tentatively. He took a breath and then nodded. “What kind of eggs?” He asked “…Omelet? scrambled? Fried? Over easy? Peached?” He very carefully moved an arm which was starting to come back to life and sensation, tweek at the braid still in Sterling’s hair. “…I can even show you a move for self defense after the aspirin kicks in?” He offered.

“Oh, wow I did plan ahead didn’t I?” He gave a little laugh and nodded. “Hot chocolate sounds wonderful too, Yu. Thank you for being so good to me. I really do appreciate it…and…ah. Scrambled maybe? I love how you cook your scrambled eggs. You don’t leave them too soft and runny, and I appreciate that. I always think I’m going to get salmonella.”
Sterling swallowed his next fit of laughter, silently chiding himself about saying things that were funny…even if they were only funny to him.
“I can’t promise that I’ll be able to replicate any fancy self-defense moves, but I’d be more than happy to watch you!” His eyes lit up a little. “It’ll be like watching an action movie, only it’s my housemate.” Which made it even better. He wasn’t really a fan of the action movies that Yu liked anyway.

“It’s really simple, promise.” He offered. “It’s something you could show your doctor friend too.” He added. “I can show you how to do the fluffy eggs too.” He added and then thought carefully. “…do you want a bit of cheese mixed in? Like… a scrambled omelet? He …wasn’t sure what still had the giggles being stifled but it was, it was kinda stupidly adorable. How was anyone so perfect, it almost hurt.

“Oh, yes. That sounds absolutely wonderful. Cheese makes anything taste good.” Sterling nodded eagerly and forced his laughter into a gentle smile. “I’ll meet you in the kitchen then? I’m going to freshen up and get the medicine…and then we can get ready and start the day right.”
…Not that it hadn’t already started right. Started perfectly. Waking up, resting against Yu…
There was no better way to start a day. And if he could wake up like this every morning…he would do so. Happily.
“Hey, Yu? Thanks for letting me use you as a pillow last night…and thanks for not waking me up…it was…the best night’s sleep I’ve had in a really long while. Seriously.” He was looking away from the other male and gave a wry grin, heading for his bedroom before he could hear whatever Yu had to say.
For honestly, he wasn’t sure that he could handle anything bad right now, and he had absolutely no idea what he would do if it was anything good that he had to say.

“A….Ah…” He sat for a moment slack jawed and a red creeping into his face. “A-Anytime.” He said ducking his head slightly which he immediately regretted because his neck was -really- stiff from the edge of the couch, but Sterling was already upstairs and maybe that was good. He folded over with a soft groan into his knees and tried to not read too much into what Sterling said. “Ok… ok…” He whispered into his knees. “… Eggs… making sausage and eggs. We’re…making patties if we have any. I can not be held responsible for watching him eat sausage links right now.” He stood up, slowly, but grateful that it was a nice house, it absolutely helped when he still did have spots that got stiffer than he thought they had any right to at his age. “Right…” He rubbed at his neck and back. “… right, breakfast… just…breakfast.” He sighed, and made his way to the kitchen to start setting up.
