V'demhe heaved a sigh as she brought a hand through her dreads. It was a rare day that they weren't tied back in a braid but she'd not much felt like putting her hair up today. Her black eyes looked up at the bright sky and then out to the rolling waves of the ocean. It was nice out at least. There were dark clouds on the horizon but from the looks of it they were too far out to have any impact on the shore.
At her side sat Maha, her blue radaku. He had been with her for many, many years and was getting slow in his old age but he was still sharp enough to hear the sound of someone approaching. He turned to look in that direction, giving a small huff to alert his companion.

Lynx had decided to go down to the beach in search of turtles and crabs. He wanted to play with the small creatures or maybe even swim with them. As he got closer to the spot he usually went to he noticed there was someone already there. That wasn't so unusual as it was a nice enough spot, what really stood out was who the person was. Or rather what. It was an Alkidike.
Instantly his eyes were glued to the tall woman. It was only after he heard the huff from the beast that his eyes blinked and looked down at the radaku that was there. He'd never seen one of them before either so his eyes grew even wider as he stared.

Her hand moved to pat Maha's head when she heard the huff. It was an instant reaction to show the old boy some comfort. Of course she also turned her head to see what it was that had caught his attention. What she saw was a small child. Eathrling from the looks of it. Though the closer he got the more she realized he was of mixed descent.
His particular mix made her lift a single brow and tilt her head. Silver colored hair and eyes, dark skin, and pink crystals. From her travels she knew the skin was Oban. The hair and eyes were shifter. The crystals on the other hand could be leaf or wind. They both had pink. After realizing that she was staring she straightened and noticed that the boy had wide eyes. "Hello child." Dem figured she might as well greet them and see if they freaked out and ran.

He noticed that the woman had turned to look at him and he froze in place. Lynxdaroch could remember hearing some tales about the old Alks and the wars from some of the really old merchants. He'd always been fascinated. Plus, his dad was part alk. When the woman said hello his wide eyed look turned into a grin. Instantly he got closer and stared up at her while absently holding a hand out to the beast so he could take a sniff. "Hi! You're tall." His dad was tall too. Much taller than his mom. "I think my dad is as tall as you! Are you a pure alkidike!?" He couldn't control his mouth as he let his curiosity spill out.

She blinked a few times to catch up to the fast speech of the little boy as he spoke to her. Clearly he wasn't afraid of her and she learned why when he said that his dad might be as tall as her. Earthlings did not get as tall as her tribe did unless they had some alk in them. Or it was a fluke. Dem moved so that she could crouch in front of the boy and smiled. "I sure am. My name is V'demhe but you can call me Dem." Her hand left Maha's head to be held out for Lynx to take and give a shake.

The hand that was trying to let the beast have a sniff instantly moved to take hold of the woman's and give a shake. "That's really cool! My dad is part alk!" Both hands came up then and he made a motion to mimic the look of antennae. "He has the teedly-boops too!" Lynx wasn't sure what they were called so he used the term he and his twin had come up with.
"Can I sit on your shoulders? I wanna be tall!" Typical of a child he had no filter.

A smile graced her features as she heard the boy claim some alk heritage in his family. Though he had no markers to show for it. That of course made her wonder if her own daughter's children would lack the tribe characteristics. What the child called her antennae made her pause for a second before laughing.
Dem couldn't help that one. It was too funny. Her other hand moved to her stomach to hold her poor side until her laughing calmed down some. "I'll make you a deal, tell me your name and you can sit on my shoulders." Dem didn't mind humoring a child when they wanted something. Little ones were her soft spot anyways.

When Dem started to laugh Lynx blushed a little, not sure if he said something really funny or not. When she offered her deal he realized he hadn't told her his name after she'd given hers. "Oops. Sorry about that. My name is Lynxdaroch. You can call me Lynx! Don't confuse me with my twin brother Iexadaroch though." He nodded his head. He knew twin siblings were common but being identical was rare. So he and his brother were special.
With his name given and his side of the deal completed he lifted his hands up for the woman to take so that he could be lifted up.

"Lynx. Nice to meet you young man." She was mildly intrigued when she was told not to get him confused with his twin. The names didn't seem all that similar except for the ending so she wasn't sure why. Dem took hold of the boy's arms and stood as she lifted him, making it one fluid motion. One second he would be on the ground and the next he would be in the air sitting on her shoulders. "There we go."
Keeping one hand on him she tilted her head slightly so that she could attempt to look at him. "I'm not the tallest alk there is but I'm pretty tall."

As he was hauled up into the air he let out a squeal of giggles. Once he was placed and settled in he brightened up even more. From his perch he could see a lot more than what he could on the ground. Lynx put one hand on top of Dem's head while his other came up to shield his eyes from the sun so that he could look off into the distance. "Whoa! This is awesome!" His dad did the same thing but it was some how different with a pure alk.
"I bet your kids love doing this!" He said excitedly. "Can we play together sometime?" He leaned forward and looked down so that he could make eye contact with the woman. "I'd love to have alk friends too." Since they lived all the way in Matori it was hard to have friends from that tribe.

"Well they did." Dem nodded her head. Her daughters had certainly enjoyed it. The others she'd adopted when they were older so she didn't get to enjoy the younger years with them but that was alright. "My children are all grown up, little Lynx, but I'm sure if you ask Masika to play she would." Her daughter was a softie.
"So now what would you like to do that you're up high?" She had time to spare so it wasn't like she was in a hurry. And if the kid wasn't ready to get down she wasn't going to make him.

He frowned at Dem. "Well why are they all grown up? That's no fun!" He protested.
Still he was pleased to hear that at least one of his kids wouldn't mind playing with him even if they were grown up. Lynx smiled at that.
Pointing in a random direction he straightened. "Lets go that way Dem!"

She had to agree with him on that. It was no fun that her kids had gone and grown up. She much would have preferred to have more time with them when they were small but it didn't work that way.
When given a direction to go in she looked down at Maha and grinned. "You heard him boy.. up." She gave a whistle and a wave of her hand and instantly her radaku responded. He took off running in the direction Lynx wanted to go and V'demhe followed after him shortly.

He looked down at the beast when Dem started to talk to it. Just as his eyes landed on the radaku it took off running and he went wide eyed with a smile. It was amazing that the creature responded so well. "Wow! It listens to well!!" He was amazed by the control his new alk friend had over the animal even though she was so far away.
"How did you get him to do that!?"

As she walked along after Maha she kept a hand on Lynx to ensure he didn't fall off. When asked about her familiar's skills she grinned. "I trained him since he was a pup. He's been with me for a very long time." The two had a bond and while she had many beasts that traveled with her now Maha would always be her first fur baby.
"If you train with a beast and create a good friendship with them you can make them listen really well."
