Melek's journal is a bullet journal. Many small lists and doodles can be found throughout, including things she has seen that day, ideas, thoughts, plans, and other things. It's all included in a college-ruled notebook with cord binding and a paperboard cover. It is written primarily in black ink, with color-fast markers for color.

Background: Melek lived in what was called an asylum for as long as she can remember. She had no mental illnesses or deviances to speak of, but she simply never knew that she did not qualify for admittance to one. Nor did she know that physically speaking she was fine, and if she had not been stunted artificially she would have been even healthier. As it is, she looks like a little boy more than a pubescent female. Only time will tell if her body is able to catch up with everyone her age.
For as long as she remembers, she was experimented upon. She was never told what they were for or what the results were. Questioning was rewarded with penalty after penalty. Eventually she realized that she would never get answers and settled with complaisance. Life was more bearable if she did not resist in any way.

Scientists gave random test subjects random items to study how a Given Item and a meta would interact. Various aspects were carefully studied: physical change, mental changes, abilities gained (physical, psychic, elemental, magic, etc.). Melek's porcelain mask was chosen by the child and was systematically assigned to the scientist the item came from. Indeed, it was like a lottery, and Melek's random examiner was notoriously rigorous.
The journal is something Melek picked up after escaping from the lab. She decided to use it like the examiners back "home" to jot down thoughts and lists. Because the examiners were so methodical and scientific in their thinking, it rubbed off on her, to some degree, and she writes entries multiple times per day.

Melek's room barely has enough furnishings to accommodate a person. A bed and a desk with chair and lamp. There are no decorations of any kind on bedspread, desk or floor. It is very plain and colorless. Melek brings back books and papers to study over, sitting either at the desk or on the floor. As a visual person, she has many diagrams and collage-like projects strewn about or tacked to the walls. She does not always make it back to the bed for sleep falling forward to drool on whatever is under her mouth.
