I have a simple question for experienced FFVII players. I know what I'm doing(I've played through a lot of the FF games, nearly all of them), but I'm late into FFVII and I can't find a decent spot to train. I don't want to enter the crater yet(I want to level my materia and characters, as well as get some more limits), but I can't find a spot with high enough monsters to even pose HALF a threat to me. It's rather ridiculous really stare

Anyways, any good spots to train?

PS - I don't have a Gold Chocobo yet but I'm readying my River and Mountain Chocobo's to mate a black one, so yeah. Can't go to the Northern Island w/ the Knights yet. I'll get them later - just training right now.

The best place to train is in the crater, you can train against Ultima if you want, he should be near Junon the first time you fight him.

Other than the crater, the forrest near Mideel (the place that got swallowed by the life stream in case I forgot the name) would be the best place to train, the second best place would be either the Glacier or in the underwater reactor.

Well, you -can- actually go into the crater without getting stuck there until you're preeeetty far in, and it's really the best place to level. (I'm in the same situation--level 78 Cloud, so it's hard to train most places.)

I typically go three or four screens down into the crater. I've just recently been exploring to see how far you can go without getting stuck, and I've found that you can get at least to where you pick up the Mega All materia. (You may be able to go farther, but I haven't checked yet.)
Keep in mind, the deeper you go, the better the enemies. Master Tonberries are by far the best things to fight, but be warned, they -are- Tonberries! King Behemoths are decent, but they don't give much GP.

I know you said you didn't want to enter the crater yet--I just thought if you were afraid of getting stuck, I could reassure you.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

Go in the crater, stay near the top for a while and fight king tonberries, but be cautious if a king behemoth pops up because when they die they cast comet which CAN kill you. Now you will want to do mass amounts of damage, and i suggest that you kill King Ton.'s and Black Dragons while avoiding the gargoyles. Gargoyles can kill any character with a level divisible by two.
If your to weak to train in the crater, then the Mideel Forrest is your second best bet. You will get bored as hell here, i promise you that. But nonetheless be careful because you CAN die if your not paying attention.

The place I trained all the way up to level 99 and mastered materia was in the crater. Go down the first three screens. When it gets to the point where the party splits have you and your other party members go left. Also place the save crystal here. When you take the left path again have your party members go left. In this new odd area you will find magic pots. Give them one ELIXER each and then you can defeat them. Don't attack them until they have recieved the elixer. They give out massive expirience and AP and pay out a Turbo Ether for your Elixer. You will also find egg monsters that are weak as anything but give out 800 AP for each one. They are hard to find. All the other monsters here are weak except for the master tonberrys.

If it's too hard to get to that point you could always take the sub underwater and find the sunked gelnika plane. There you will find some tough enemies, the final boss battle with Reno and Rude. Cids Highwind limit, and Hades and Double Cut materia.

Return of Say hit both of my levelbuilding areas. The one in the crater is my favorite for Materia building--it's a marsh-lake and the AP is phenomenal.

As for King Tonberries/Master Tonberries: Casting the enemy skill Death Guard will prevent the knife attack from working, leaving only Everyone's Grudge as a painful turn-based counter attack (as in, when it reaches the Tonberry's turn, it will attack whoever attacked it last).

yeah amyrthian is right that marsh like cave is the best for leviling up (to make it easyer plant the save crystal here) also added efect + destruct on your armor will stop the tonberrys knife attack as well. magic pots are amazing for exp/ap but cost one elixor each to fight but its worth it. (w-item is a god send)

Well, from my experience..

(Which I might add was about 10 hours of non-stop circle running v.v wink

Make sure you use weaponry and armor that has double or triple growth, if possible, then have a slash-all equipped to Cloud.

Then just run in circles by Mideel and use one quick SlashAll or a Flash and it should kill all the monsters in one swing. o-o; sweatdrop

I edited this after reading the post about this. Mideel is the best place is the game too level your materia. I recommend using as many multi abilitys on your equipment as you have. The best multis you can get are on cids weopons but you can also get several triple armors so you can level your materias ALOT faster. In terms of best places it goes near Mideel, in that broken down sub(best place for stealing items in game) and the crator(moderate experience gain but not as good ap gain as near Mideel)

Early into the crater or the sunken plane are the hardest fights I can find at the end of the game.

The absolute best place to train experience and AP wise in the game is down inside the Northern Crater. When you get to the split, where your party splits up to get down to the bottom, the left path is the best place to level up. The exact place is a yellowish looking kind of swamp area. The enemies youll run into there are the Master Tonberry, Allemange, Christopher, Gighee, Magic Pot, and the bouncy ball dudes whose name I cant remember.... but they all give out the best experience and AP for regular monsters in the game.

I stayed in the Crashed Gelnika. You can get a lot of money there.

Im using the Northern Crater to master my Enemy skill materias. After that im going to finish breeding to get KOTR. THEN go back to the Crater to master materia. Though im gonna go to the Gelnika, because all of the enemies there can be morphed into sources. Yuffie + Conformer + Morph = 9999 biggrin
