Hesperia

about
Race: Yandrea
Gender: Female
Class: Blade
Future Class: ???
Significant Other: None yet
Children: N/A

personality

Nurturing, Traditional, Inflexible

Overall: As one of the first Yandrea to be born, Hesperia took to heart the teachings of her mothers and holds great pride in her birthright. While she of course had her more playful, mischievous moments as a smaller youngling, as she grew she became a responsible young bloom who sought to take those younger than her under her wing, teaching them to be proud of their heritage and take on the world they'd been born into.

While curious about non-Aishans, her curiosity came with a dose of healthy trepidation. She enjoys her life, and knowing her place in it, and while her mothers weren't exactly anti-Earthling in their upbringing, she definitely was raised with a healthy dose of Aishan pride.

As a prentice, her curiosity grew, and more and more she yearned to venture outside the isle to meet strangers and, perhaps, see other Aishans. She has little interest in meeting earthlings, but does wish to meet Alkidike in hopes of earning their approval.

description

Dark skinned with bright gold, pupil less eyes. Her hair is set in waved, smaller dreads that are swept up away from her face. Freckles spread over her round cheeks and shoulders, and pale markings cover her body in alternating sharp lines and graceful circles. She wears diamond-shaped wooden earrings, and pink and gray clothes.

History

Childhood

Hesperia was one of the first blooms born in Yandrea, along with her sister Wangui. They were both adopted by an Alkidike couple who did not pray for them, but who were lucky in being allowed to adopt some of the first new Aishans. For the longest time, Hesperia merely thought that baby Yandrea were green and dark, and would grow one day to be like their Alkidike mothers... but as she grew, she began to understand the truth of the matter.

It is difficult not to get a swollen ego, to be told that you are one of the first of your species... Hesperia took her mothers' prideful words to heart, and dedicated herself to being a shining figure among her peers. Helpful and nurturing to her fellow sisters, Hesperia is her mothers' little helper, and goes out of her way to wrangle the younger younglings into line, take care of them as necessary, and help them with their training and well being.

Her childhood was spent dutifully practicing learning warcraft and lessons from her elders. Her tendency to be a bit of a nag and matronly figure among her peers earned her few friends in her childhood, other than her sister Wangui with whom she allowed herself a bit of honesty in the form of conversations about their curiosity of the outside world.

Prentice

As a prentice, Hesperia continued her studies and lessons as a young Alkidike, doing her part in keeping the settlement running. Less a hunter, Hesperia helped keep down the fort - which was difficult, as her desires to leave the 'nest' only seemed to grow.

While she has no desire to leave for good (as she does dream of the day she finds a wife and prays to Aisha for her own blooms), she at least wants to visit Aisha and step foot off the Isle first.

Class Affinity: Blade | 300 words

Hesperia wasn’t a warrior. At least, not in the way her sister was. From her first memory she’d been obedient, attending her training dutifully and with a dedicated heart, but she simply wasn't… good at fighting. There was no natural gift burning in her blood, no primordial dance with the blades that some Aishans seemed born with, no particular thrill she gained from holding a spear in her hands. Over time, with many many years of practice, she became a decent enough shot with a bow, crafty with a knife, and handy in the humbler ways of those Aishans who stayed at home with the younglings and blooms - worldly, nurturing.

“You don’t have to be like everyone else.” She told herself, brushing aside frustrated tears as she peered over the training grounds at so many others - girls younger than her, who just seemed to glow with some innate blessing she’d just not GOTTEN.

But when it came down to it, when Hesperia considered her options, there really was no choice for her. Yes, she could reject her heritage and go off to live among the earthlings where she might never be expected to fight … but she’d never once considered …that, not once. She was an Aishan, a VANDREA, through and through, and while her heart might yearn for a bit of adventure and travel, she could never imagine leaving her home and never coming back.

So really, the choice was easy. If she had to protect her sister, her parents… and her HOME… then she would, gladly, even if she wasn’t the best at it.

The bow Hesperia picked was homely, made of supple dark wood, long enough that it made her muscles burn when she flexed the string, but when she used it she made every shot count.

Class Quest: Blade | 505 words

The platform of the airship gangway creaked ominously under Hesperia’s feet as she took tentative steps up it, clutching tightly at the support rails that lined it. For the past few months, she’d slowly eased herself into regular visits to the earthling settlement in Belrea, watching as the airships launched and came in on a regular, scheduled basis, so she knew that stepping foot on board wouldn’t immediately cause it to explode, but she still couldn’t erase the sense of guilt she felt, like she was committing some grave sin by doing so.

Around her, earthlings peered at her with interest, the sight of Vandrea not unheard of but certainly unusual, because really why would any of them LEAVE Azehra’s side to venture out into the world? It… it wasn’t as if Hesperia did this with no intention of returning. She’d been a blade for almost a year now, practicing her bow and continuing her work tending to younger Vandrea. Already, she saw those only a bit older than her settling down and praying for blossoms of their own to nurture and raise.

It was a future that Hesperia longed for, and that wasn’t something that would change any time soon. One day, she’d be happy to stay in Belrea, guarding Azehra and her homeland as she raised a daughter, teaching her the same way SHE had been taught. She would find love, she hoped, some day, and together they would be happy and flourish as their society grew and grew, and more Vandrea spilled into the world.

But… not quite yet. Not so SOON.

Exhaling shakily, Hesperia finally wobbled onto the deck and forced herself to lift her chin, giving off a proud, resolved air that she hoped the earthlings believed. She felt nervous, a coiling excitement in her belly that grew as she watched the workers scurry about, preparing for lift off. Soon, she’d be airborne and headed towards the continent, where she intended to travel to Yael, where she hoped to meet the Elaria there. Then, she would circle north through Oba to Jauhar to meet the Alkidike cousins there.

Then, heading back, she would hope to meet with any Elidae willing to meet with her, to gather as much knowledge of their cousins as she could. Then, she promised to herself, THEN she would be settled, having explored the world to her heart’s content. THEN she could settle down, start a proper family and …

There was a pregnant pause there, one that once again made her guiltily shake herself, moving to prop her arms, instead, on the railing of the ship, peering over the side at the people that gathered to watch. She prayed that the trip would be harrowing, full of hardship and fright. She would finish her travels having conquered a harsh world, she told herself, returning home to safety and comfort. But already, as the ship began to rumble and lifted to the skies… already, Hesperia had a horrible feeling that it would be quite the opposite.

[Hesperia makes the choice to leave Belrea to travel the world, but remains conflicted as to whether this is a permanent or temporary change.]
