Is it Still Today or is it Tomorrow?

It wasn't the annoying sound of a beeping alarm clock or music from the radio alarm that woke her, nor was it the smell of food being prepared down stairs that pulled Hannah from her dreamless slumber. Rather is was the numb yet achy sensation in her arm from where she had blood drawn earlier? Or was it yesterday? To be honest she wasn't entirely sure when it happened or how long she had been asleep. Quite frankly, she didn't even remember leaving the hospital.

Opening her eyes, her blurred vision finally focused on the white textured wall roughly a foot away from where she was laying. For a brief moment she thought she was still in the hospital laying on one of the exam tables. Had she fainted? No... at least she didn't remember fainting. The last thing she remembered was leaving the hospital with her mom and going out to the car to wait for her dad. Honestly, she couldn't recall anything past getting into the car and laying her head on her mothers lap in the back seat.

Hannah brought her arm up and out from under the down feather comforter to rub the sleep from her eyes. The room was still bright meaning it was still daytime outside which left the question "Wonder what time it is?" Unable to help herself, still not fully awake, she brought her hand down as a point of habit, despite nobody else being in her room, to cover a yawn.

Looking around she took in the unfortunate site of her room. One of the pains of moving was that everything was still a mess, including the bed. The only thing that had been organized so far was her desk, then again there wasn't much to put on it any way. Boxes lay scattered around the floor some opened others still taped shut. Glancing at her night stand she realized that her blue and silver alarm clock had yet to be unpacked and her cell phone was nowhere in sight.

Knowing it would be futile to try to go back to sleep, Hannah pushed the blankets off herself, almost instantly regretting the decision to get up, Oh man.. it's freezing. A rather aggressive shiver ran up her spine followed almost immediately by a stampede of goose bumps traveling up her arms causing her teeth to chatter just a bit. In all honesty the house really wasn't that cold it was maybe 68 degrees inside, but having just pushed a mountain blankets, which included a very warm very fluffy comforter, off herself the house felt pretty darn cold.

Grabbing hold one of the thinner blankets that rested at the bottom of her bed. Hannah unfolded the fuzzy synthetic blue fibered blanket before taking a hold of two adjacent corners and draping it around her shoulders hugging it to her upper body before crawling out of bed. "Ah ha, there you are!" It took a few minutes of rummaging around the already opened boxes labeled 'clothes', but she was finally successful in locating a pair of fuzzy slippers so her feet didn't get cold as she walked around the house. Wood flooring and porcelain tiles were no friends of bare feet in the colder months.

Once she had each slipper on, Hannah hugged the blanket tightly around herself and headed downstairs. "Mom?" she called when she reached the first landing about ten steps down the stair case.
"I'm in the living room" came her mothers echoed reply from downstairs.

With the blue blanket dragging behind her, Hannah descended down the rest of the stairs. The blue blanket fibers no doubt sweeping up dust that lay atop the wood flooring, but she didn't care. "Hi mom," she smiled at her mother who was sorting through some boxes on the carpet in the middle of the living room.

"Hey sweetie," Mrs. Carrington set down another plate atop of the stack of dishes and stood up. Wiping her hands on her pant legs she walked over to her daughter to give her a hug. "How are you doing?"

Letting go of the blanket with one hand, Hannah wrapped one arm around her mother, returning the comforting embrace. With a nod of her head she replied "I'm okay, how long was I asleep."

Mrs. Carrington pulled up her sleeve to look at her watch. Counting the hours in her head she let out a small laugh. "About four hours, it's only four-thirty. If you're still feeling up to it I can take you to the White's house and you can still surprise Delilah."

"Once I wake up a bit that would be great. Her mom knows we're back yeah?"

Placing a light kiss on her daughters forehead Mrs. Carrington gave Hannah a tight hug before releasing her and taking a seat on the couch to relax. "Nope, I'm being good. Just as I promised, I'm keeping it a secret." She nudged her daughters arm jokingly. "I figured I would take you over there when you got up from your nap."

"Does Delilah know I'm back?" It was a silly thing to ask but she just woke up so who could blame her.

"Not unless you told her" Her mother looked at her with a raised eyebrow and a slight smile, a look that asked 'did you?'

Hannah raised her hands in a teasingly defensive manner, pretending to be offended by the unsaid question, she replied "I didn't say anything". Eliciting a laugh from her mother which made her laugh as well.

"Just let me know when you're ready and I'll take you over there, I'm going to keep unpacking for now, there's some lunch in the fridge if you're hungry."

"Thank you mom"

Things were going to be ok, at least she hoped so. The last thing the previous doctor had said was to try to live life as normally as possible. But a part of her had to wonder, was that even possible? Maybe, at the very least she would try. If not for herself then for them.
