Freydis picked her way through Homewood, taking her time as she made her way to the armory that Ragnar had instructed her to visit. She couldn't remember the last time she'd come to Homewood. Her parents had never given her the luxury, and indeed, when she saw the way the forest bloomed and the way it inhabitants lived carefree and careless, Freydis understood why she had never been brought to visit as a child. Still, it was all fascinating, and she spent her time carefully inspected every den she could peer into and watching every minimally interesting Homewooder she could find. She had followed someone who appeared to be a scout of some sort, and then listened in on some idle gossip among a handful of evidently high-born noulicorns who had gathered in a clearing for a gab. At long last, she arrived at the Other-made shack that housed Dyna the armorer, and the doe waltzed right up to the entrance and poked her head in. "Helloooo," she sang out, gaze roving across the shopfront. It landed on a piece of metal that seemed decently reflective, and Freydis decided to invite herself closer so she could peer into it wide-eyed and see if it was one of those shiny things that could reflect images in them. Ragnar had told her to behave. What a thought! As if Freydis was capable of anything but! He hadn't said be nice, and he hadn't said don't be difficult. Perhaps it should have been included in the order to behave herself, but Freydis couldn't be sure. She'd have to figure that out for herself.

Dyna had already gotten started on Ragnar's armor as she had promised. Rough cut pieces of leather were laid on her workbench, not yet polished or cleanly sewn but vaguely resembling something that might come together into something like armor. She really needed to consider finding a faery to befriend and hire - sewing was always hardest as a noul. Instead of tackle that incredibly arduous task she had abandoned it for the metal plating. Though she was mildly disappointed she wasn't going to get to make the entire piece out of the strange metal she was still excited to work with it. She heated it up and stamped it out with protected hooves, carefully thinning it with the weight of her body and a keen eye. When it was more closely resembling its final shape she took it out to the pond next to her shop and dunked it into the water, rapid cooling it. It was then that she trotted back into her shop, dripping metal in mouth, and ran headlong into another does back. The metal piece went careening across the floor in a loud clatter and Dyna made a series of shocked noises. "Oh no! I'm sorry! I couldn't see around the metal I didn't know you were there! Are you okay?"

Freydis wasn't expecting a collision. She'd heard the armorer's hoofbeats approaching, but as Dyna ran into her, she whirled about with an urgency that hinted at the sort of instincts she had developed living and fighting out in the Barrens. And errant noulicorn may not mean her much harm, but a catbeast certainly would. It took a few moments for the steely look to fade from her eyes, but after a beat or two of pointed staring, Freydis moved her gaze over to the metal sheet lying a ways away from them. "Oh, I'm fine," she said with a well-placed flip of her forelock. The piece of hair that had been dangling in her eyes fell perfectly into place to frame her angular face. Freydis blinked wide, blue eyes at Dyna, lifting her head. She carried herself with equal parts swagger and grace - A lady in a warrior's guise, or perhaps a warrior in a lady's. The line was a blur with her, but whichever it was, it was meant to both impress and intimidate. "Your metal, though... I hope it's not damaged."

To be perfectly honest, Dyna was stunned by the doe momentarily. There weren't many does who held themselves with the same sort of air this one did. She was so pretty, but clearly incredibly capable. It was a little enchanting to take in, and also made Dyna feel a little inadequate. But after a moment of staring she blinked rapidly and gathered her wits. Her head spun to look at the metal. "Oh! No, don't worry about it. It was just rapid cooled so it should be pretty sturdy." She skittered over to it awkwardly and inspected it. When she was satisfied, she picked it up and turned it for the doe to see. "See? Nothing that won't get polished out anyways." She then laid it on the bench with the leather pieces. "I'm glad you're okay. My name is Dyna, was there something I could help you with?"

There was a moment of silence. Ah. Freydis understood what was happening. She kept her expression neutral as Dyna ogled, although the doe would certainly be lying if she said she didn't thoroughly enjoy the attention. She decided then that perhaps she liked this Dyna after all and settled on a soft smile. Be nice it was, then. "Wonderful," she said, sounding pleased. Now that Freydis had decided she was on Dyna's side, she would have hated to see her hard work damaged in any way. "That's a relief." She peered curiously at the metal and leather. It was still in pieces, which made it hard for Freydis to wrap her mind how it would all come together. The handiwork, though, already looked quite impressive. It was all seeming better and better - not that she had ever doubted Ragnar's judgment. "My name is Freydis, Ragnar sent me and said you'd be expecting me," she said, lifting her head from examining the pieces. "I must say, these are exquisite. I'm no expert, of course, but these are quite lovely."

The recognition was immediate. "Oh! You're his lady!" She beamed excitedly. "He said you might want a face plate, those are my favorite to do." She'd started on face plates when she was young, and so naturally had the easiest time designing and making them. "I'm so glad you like what you see. Ragnar seemed a little hesitant about the metal, but I think it's going to give you guys longer lasting protection, here look -" She moved the metal slightly and pulled the pieces of the leather together into the positions they would be sewn in. "This will be his chest piece, the leather will add good protection in the non-vital areas, but this-" she she gestured at the metal piece, "will cover the core. It'd take something a lot stronger than a rat to get through it, I think." Did she breathe at all through her explanation? No, probably not, but she didn't look winded at all. "We just need to take your measurements and decide what you'd like done different from his. Armor for does is always more elegant, you guys wear it better."

"His lady, mm!" she said, clearly enjoying the sound of that. If anyone deserved to be a lady, it was certainly Freydis. She shimmied her shoulders a little with contentment at the comment which, although merely relayed by Dyna, had earned the armorer a couple more points in Freydis' book. "Ooh, well I want it to look good," she said, getting a little more animated than before. Excitement didn't always work well on poise, but in this case, she'd make a little exception. "A faceplate, most definitely. I like the handiwork you've put into yours." She leaned in closer to Dyna to give her beetle armor a thorough once-over. "And I was thinking a neck guard that connects to the chest plate. All of it matching, of course." She stretched out her neck, as if to model for Dyna what it might look like to put armor on her graceful form. "What do you think? We does certainly are the more elegant breed. Bucks are just..." Freydis rolled her eyes, but her little smile hinted that she loved those bucks more than her words would suggest. "Ugh, blocky. There's no sophistication to their shape."

Dyna made a little surprised but excited face. "I've never done a neck guard before, but it would look great on you. I'd be so happy to give a shot." Neck guards started to get into those larger, full-body pieces of armor that had always intimidated Dyna. But for this party? For a doe like this? It was the perfect opportunity to stretch her capabilities and see what she could do. "I'd love to be able to add some sort of matching insignia for you too, to tie all three of the armor sets together." She nodded along very agreeably about the shape of bucks. "They're good for heavy pieces but when you want nuance? Does just have better body lines. I'd also love to add some detailing to yours to make it fit... well, you. You're very pretty, your armor should match." She had visions of delicate swirls on shining metal and it gave her a fuzzy feeling. She'd discovered that his metal was fairly easy to work with, which meant she could do a lot more with it.

Freydis seemed more and more engaged as they spoke, nodding her head happily at all of Dyna's suggestions. "Why, thank you," she said warmly, obviously in full agreement that she was very pretty and that her armor should match. She wouldn't be caught dead wearing unflattering armor into a fight. Most certainly not. "I love all of your ideas. Detailing would make it so lovely. And the insignia!" Her eyes were bright, and she had clearly spent a good deal of time thinking about exactly this. A warband needed an insignia, there was no way to argue otherwise. "We don't have an exact insignia, but I know Ragnar has thought a bit about it," she said, leaning in almost secretively as she said it. "At my suggestion, of course. Otherwise, I think he would never have considered it on his own! I couldn't believe it." And then she fell silent with a small hum, her eyes narrowing just a touch as she considered something. "Well, I can have Torsten bring a preliminary idea when he comes, how does that sound?" she said finally, brightening up again. "I assume you're more artistic than the lot of us, so I imagine you'd have a better go at actually making it. You can make it official for us." Freydis beamed.

"Wow, I'd be honored to." Dyna was amazed at the kind of freedoms and trust they were giving her. Not for the first time since meeting Ragnar, Dyna found herself thanking that mystery noul who had talked her up. She still wasn't sure how she could be deserving of all this, but it was like a dream come true to have a real band of adventurers and warriors putting so much faith and appreciation into her. "Okay!" She started suddenly, throat a little thick with happiness and pride. "With all those decisions out of the way, it's time for the real important part. I gotta take measurements." She turned around and fussed with her materials for a moment before returning with a flat of bark very similar to the one she'd used for Ragnar, but unused. She held it up to Freydis's chest first, making the same marks she had with her horn. "Chest first, we'll need to do some awkward in depth ones for the neck guard, then head." Unlike Ragnar's measurements, which had been pretty straightforward, Dyna had to guide Freydis through how to hold her head and neck for certain parts of the measurements. A neck guard would need to articulate, which meant a little more consideration. "This is fun," Dyna breathed almost unconsciously halfway through. "I don't usually do something so complicated." The arches of the doe's neck were like pieces of a puzzle, and she was excited to see how delicate she could make the result.

Freydis was terribly pleased that Dyna seemed to up to the task. She beamed and stood quite still as the armorer made her measurements, happily letting Dyna maneuver her into position as she began her measurements for the neck guard. "Oh, this is so clever," she said, watching out of the corner of her eye as Dyna marked pieces of bark with her horn, noting the angles at which she had to position herself to allow the right measurements. "I'd never thought that this could all be so in-depth. Truth be told, I thought armor was just about... putting on chunky pieces of wood. I was never about that, as you can imagine." She laughed, letting Dyna continue with her work, exhibiting a mostly uncharacteristic patience for standing still. Freydis liked to move about, perhaps the byproduct of a lifetime of living in areas where predators lurked everywhere. Still, she understood that this was important. "Ragnar will be terribly pleased. I'd imagine he'll send Torsten over in a day or two. He doesn't like to wait, you see," Freydis said lightly. "I mean, none of do, to be honest. We're quite the impatient bunch, I guess."

Dyna scoffed. "Chunks of wood? What's that going to stop?" Still, there was humor to her voice. "Good armor is about accentuating strengths and really fortifying you. It's meant to last and be cared for. And by the Tree it's supposed to be attractive." Maybe that was Dyna's own personal preference, but she'd stand by it. Whether delicate and pretty or blocky and strong, an armor set shouldn't ever be ugly. "You gotta be proud to wear it." She finished up the last of her marks and set the flat of bark down. It would be difficult to make it happen but the challenge gave her a buzz. "I don't think I've ever been described as patient, either, honestly. Weird, for sure. And reckless. But never patient." She gave a little smile, though it was slightly subdued. Some jokes were a little too rooted in truth. It was actually really nice to have talked to TWO people who appreciated her lately. She'd spent most of her early life fending off those who thought she was too weird and off-beat or didn't appreciate her hobby. It seemed now she was finally tipping the scales and attracting the kind of people who liked her instead. "I'm so glad you came in, and I can't wait to meet Torsten. Tell Ragnar thank you, again. I'm really grateful to you all for trusting me with something so important."MoonRazorx i think one more post from you and we're done?

"Weird, hm?" Freydis said as Dyna finished up the last of her measurements. "Weirdness to some is passion to others, I think. Luckily for us." The doe smiled and nodded as she began to make her way out of the shop. "I'll let him know. And expect Torsten in the next day or two. Big ugly purple-looking thing. You can't miss him." And with that, she slipped out of the shop and set off, most likely to spy on some Homewooders again before she made her way back to camp.
